City of Orario; Monday, 9:00~ AM.

A clear and mostly cloudless day, with bright sunshine and a gentle breeze. This is how the morning for the people of Orario was beginning at this still early hour, But despite this, the streets were already filling with people, merchants going to set up their stalls or open their shops, artisans heading for their workshops, day-laborers making their way to their current employment project and, of course, adventurers heading both to and from the centerpiece of the city - Babel, and the dungeon beneath that towering spire. The variety of people out was, as always, wide and numerous - as was typically the case when a city as large as this was home to all the world's various races.

But today seemed especially busy, particularly near the gates and along the four, cardinal main roads. A lot of travellers had seemingly arrived very recently and were now either making their way into the massive metropolis, or standing around and gawking at it in disbelief, utterly shocked at the difference in size compared to whatever backwaer hamlet they had crawled out of originally. The cacaphony of many voices talking at once, the sound of many feet on bricklaid road, the occassional shout about a good deal on a certain item, this was the melody being played throughout the city of adventurers today.

However, over by a certain large villa, located on a side-road to the north of the western main street, things were still rather quiet. It was a rather unremarkable building aside from its size, located in an area with many similar, upper middle-class homes. A waist-high wooden fence surrounded the structure, and the building itself was a matted, natural wooden-brown color. It had three floors and what looked to be a rather flat, balcony-like roof. The door was a thick and sturdy thing, with a brass handle as well as a heavy, iron ring latched on for the purpose of being used to knock with.

There were plenty of windows, but they all seemed to sport the same, identical, patternless, maroon-colored curtains, though some were pulled aside and open, while others were draped to cover the window and prevent anyone from looking inside... Not that you could well see into a room on the second floor when you were on the street...

However, what made this unremarkable, larger-than-average house stand out when compared to its neighbours was a single fact. The banner hanging along the eastern wall's exterior - the banner of the Athena Familia. A round shield with a diagonal spear behind it, pointing upwards with its tip. This was the Home of the Goddess Athena and her Familia, the house known as Warrior's Rest.

Of course, given how quiet and utterly devoid of any activity outside, one would be forgiven for simply passing by without ever even noticing this place. Indeed, compared to the large, more well-known and well-established Familia, who lived in their fancy, crazy-big mansions, this was hardly worth paying much heed to. And, indeed, very few did.

Over by the market, more and more howls from various peddlers could be heard, wagons and carts loading and unloading goods while housewives and the elderly milled about, gossiping and making small-talk as per usual. It was a just another, unremarkable day for the Labyrinth City ... Or was it?

Over along the east main street, two groups of young adventurers had just gotten into a verbal disagreement, likely over something trite and petty. While this was not uncommon, the problem was that the youths were standing in the dead middle of the street, making traffic slow down and generally being loud and in the way for everyone else. Some people had stopped to watch the spectacle, making things even more bogged down and choked. The argument was heting up and insults were now being flung back and forth - it was likely only a matter of time before the powder keg blew up and fisticuffs started sailing through the air... Through the air, to connect with faces.

Along the northern main street, there was a differnt story. A pair of children, a girl and a boy, were running back and forth, tugging at passer-by's clothes and asking if they had seen their mother. But all they got in response was either a shake of the head, a polite 'no' or a brusque brushing off. Then again, both of the small ones were rather dirty and wore ragged, cheap-looking clothing - so one could obviously make the mistake that they were stret urchins or orphans in denial about their state of parental abandoment. But the two didn't seem to want to quit any time soon, and continued their back-and-forth of pestering anyone they could catch up with or who had stopped for whatever reason.

Elsewhere, along the southern main street, a group of suspscious people were hanging about. They were offering people to play some sort of simple game, where one had to find a marble placed under one of three cups, after the cups had been suffled around. The man doing the shuffling looked like a sleazy, middle-aged good-for-nothing, while his two assistants - two buxom and sultry ladies in scandalous clotes - beckoned and urged any nearby traveller to try their hand at the game. And if a smile and skimpy outfits didn't work, cozying up to, grabbing an arm and pressing their chest against said arm, seemed to do the trick. Amusingly, the dealer seemed to lose very seldom, and when he did, it was always when the adversary had made a very modest bet... Strange how that was...

There were however many other things going on, all throughout the city, all at the same time. But to observe and mention every last one, that would be an insane undertaking that nobody in their right mind wold have time for.

So, in the end, was it a normal day then? For Orario, it certainkly was. But for any new arrivals, that may not be the case.

In other places she had traveled, her demeanor and appearance would have counted as unusual. The young woman was tall and fit, with long legs and clad in a colorful, immodest skirt and crop top that left much of her dark, mocha skin and well toned musculature on display. She wore golden accessories around her neck, wrists and ankles, and on her ears. She stood tall, walked with confidence and purpose, carrying little more than a spear in one hand.

Here, even just setting foot through the gates of Orario, she could spy other Amazoness in the crowds. Some new arrivals like her, others likely having lived here for some time. They weren't the majority by any means, but it was much more numerous than anywhere she had been since leaving her home village. As she walked along the streets, nearly overwhelmed by the size and noise and crowd, it started to sink in that everything she had ever heard about Orario was true and then some. It was amazing, far more people than she could ever imagine all being in one place.

It was a realization that put a pep in her step, a broad smile on her face, and an eagerness to begin the first steps towards her goals!

Yet, even though she was only one of many Amazoness that came to the city, she did still stand out thanks to one particular feature of hers. Most who noticed were discrete in their glances as she passed, while others gawked openly, and at times fingers were pointed and whispers exchanged. As enamored as she was with how huge and crowded and noisy the city was, the Amazoness hardly noticed any of it - not even when the locals she tapped on the shoulder to ask for directions barely looked her in the eye. She simply thanked them for their assistance and was eagerly on her way once again.

As focused as she was on finding and introducing herself to a Familia that would accept her, she was not so focused as to be immune to distraction. While traveling along South street, she noticed other women dressed not entirely unlike herself pulling people from the bustling street aside to play some manner of game. Curiosity piqued, the Amazoness watched from the sidelines as a young man tried and failed to track a small ball hidden under a quickly shuffled set of cups.

So did the next customer, and the one after that. Rather than suspicion, the Amazoness felt her competitive spirit flare up - this must be a contest of skill, and the man running it must be rather quick and dexterous to be able to defeat others so consistently! Not once had she seen him lose in her short time watching, and so she found herself eagerly approaching with a bounce in her step and the butt of her spear clacking against the ground beneath her feet.

Tucking the spear against her side for a moment, she retrieved the coin purse she kept her modest funds in and lightly tossed it up and down in one hand. As she did, she addressed the game runner in an enthusiastic tone. "You challenge others to match their eyes against your hands, correct?"

Orario, South Main Street.

The scuffy-looking man running the cup-game looked up as he suddenly heard a voice call out nearby.

"You challenge others to match their eyes against your hands, correct?" The voice of a young woman called out.

He lifted his head from looking at the small crate with the cups infront of him, and instead focused on the source of this query. It was a young woman, no, a girl, and a pretty one at that. The man smiled a not-so-good smile, what with uneven teeth and all, and raised both arms in a welcoming gesture. His two associates, the ladies in slightly less clothing than this challenger, stepped away from trying to woo new customers and instead focused on flanking this new arrival instead, smiles and all.

"Heh, you're right on the money there, little missy! You got a sharp eye, care to test just how sharp?" He answered, in a playful yet confident way. The two ladies giggled in a practiced manner, like a pair of smitten girls from next door.

"Watch out, cutie!" Said one, gently grabbing the Amazoness' free arm.
"That's right!" The other chimed in. "Merek's hands are the fastest in all of Orario, I can guarantee it~!" See added with a wink.

Of course, for the charletan and his two hired escorts, this was nothing short of what was known as a free meal. A young, naive and overconfident bumpkin shows up, is convinced they're the best of whatever rat's nest they crawled out of, and ends up coming to boast and show off their skills. This girl was a new face, and she didn't have an emblem of any Familia, meaning she was likely an out-of-towner... Making her a perfect sucker to fleece.

"Whaddya say, missy? You daring to bet that little allowance of yours for a chance at raking in the big score? Or maybe you're too intimidated for that? How about a handful of Valis, maybe that's more your speed?" He said, and grinned, poking and tugging at this newcomer's bravado.

The Amazoness' expression faltered at the sight of such an... unfortunate smile, and she averted her eyes away from it and to the purse in her hand instead. Giving it a jingling toss as the two girls and the man himself egged her on, the broad grin on her face returned in full force as she plopped the entire purse down on the table and gave a laugh. "Allowance? Don't tell me the 'fastest hands in Orario' think a small purse like this is more than pocket change?"

Of course, she was just returning banter with banter in her eyes. It really was all the money she had on her, but she was still confident that once she was done here - even should she somehow lose - she could simply join a Familia and easily replace her funds with ten times as much. She was always hearing stories about how adventurers in Orario made a lot of money from their explorations and battles with the monsters in the Dungeon, so she really wasn't concerned at all. Then, if she did lose, she would challenge the 'fastest hands in Orario' again once she had improved her skills and abilities, until she did win!

A perhaps foolish attitude to take, but that really depended on the events about to unfold.

"Oh my~!"
"What a bold one~!"

The two ladies chirped, feigning being impressed and astonished. The man let out a raspy chuckle, waving his hands in the air as if to to say who knows? He took the little bag that had just landed on his crate-table, opened it and gave a quick glance inside, before putting it back down near the Amazoness edge of the table. He then reached down next to where he was sitting himself, and retrieve a pouch that was roughly five times as big, and laid it down near his own end of the table with a heavy, clinking thud.

"Oh yeah, you're right, missy. That ain't no pocket change. And here's what you'll be earning if you can beat me." The man gently rustled the new, bigger sack of money next to him. "Rules simple, I put this under one cup, Then I shuffle the entire set, you just need to find where it ends up. One try, winner takes all." He explained, haphazardly, while holding a small, black marble inbetween his fingers.

Leela's eyes lit up at the potential prize, only to narrow in focused determination as the man started to explain. If he was offering so much, he must indeed be confident in his skills. Glancing between the cups and then to the marble, she gave a nod to show she understood while keeping her attention locked on the round black sphere between his fingers. "Agreed!"

Normally, she might have engaged in further banter. She needed to focus now, however, and she was determined to win or at least come as close to winning as she could. It wouldn't do if she simply let herself get caught off guard by a sudden start and lost right away.

"Excellent." The man smirked.

With a gentle motion,h e laid the marble down, square in the center of the table. He then took the three, non-descript clay cups he had been using and placed them down, one after the other. The center cup was the one one under which the marble was to begin with. And then, the rapid shuffling began.

Far left to far right, right to middle, middle to left, far right to far left, middle to left, middle to right, right to left, middle to right. His movements were swift and harsh, the clay scraping agains the wood undereath as they trailed across the boards. He finished and smirked, raising a mocking eyebrow.

"Well, missy? Could you keep up?"

All the while, the two cohorts in their skimpy clothes were cheering the Amazoness on with practiced words of encouragement and praise.

The Amazoness' light brown eyes flicked from middle to right, then back to middle, and then back to right once more. He was quick, to be sure, and the other movements of the cups were distracting. Her thin eyebrows furrowed underneath the bangs of her auburn hair as the shuffling came to a stop, but not because she had lost track. Rather, she was confused that after all that boasting he had gone with a simple seeming pattern.

With the encouragement of the girls beside her, though, it was difficult to really dwell on it much. Giving a confident nod, Leela thrust one of her fingers towards the cup on the right and declared: "That one, to the right!" Then, she crossed her arms under her chest with a self confident and just slightly smug smile on her face. If she could keep up with the 'fastest hands in Orario' already then she must be further along in her training than she had thought!

"Ooooooh~!!" The two girls next to the Amazoness plaed their hands infront of their mouths in mock anticipation as the choice was made.

"Well now..." The man said, his shoulders slightly slumping. He reached over, gently put his fingers around the cup, and lifted it a few inches up...

... Only to reveal nothing. There was no marble.

"Looks like you lose, missy." The man's expression exploded into that of what you would find on a naughty child who ad just pulled a prank. His toothy grin and gleeful eyes were nothing short of the very definition of smarmy smugness. With a practiced, effortless reach, he nabbed the pouch on his victim's end of the table and plopped it down on top of his own, much larger bag.

The two women let out disappointed aawww-sounds amd looked at the Amazoness as if they were puppies that had just been struck with a stick and made very, very sad.

"Too bad, sweeite." One said, teary eyed.
"Better luck next time, okay?" The other tried, gently holding the loser's hand with both of her own.

The Amazoness just stood there, surprised, for a few long moments after the reveal that... Somehow, she had lost track of the marble after all? She would have sworn up and down about the the pattern he had used - Was he actually much faster than she had given him credit for, and managed to slip in an extra move that she overlooked entirely? At what point had it happened?

Leela let her eyes drift to the other cups. Maybe it was in an entirely different cup than she had thought? Her expression dumbfounded, she half-murmured her confusion out loud. Shrugging her hand free of the girl holding it, too focused on having been beaten and the uncomfortable feeling of losing nagging at her, she paid little mind to the condolences she was being offered. She didn't need sympathy, she needed to figure out where her mistake was!

Especially with that look on the man's face! He had beat her fair and square, but something about that expression irked her. Gesturing with a wave of one hand at the remaining cups on the board, she asked in a serious, almost studious tone. "Where was it? Which move did I miss?"

"Uhm, sweetie, that's not-" One of the two ladies started, taking a step forward, but Merek raised a hand that signalled for her to stop, and so she did.

It wasn't uncommon for sore losers to get like this. They were always so confident that they had picked the right cup, and in most cases, they had! But, Merek was prepared for such demands, after all, he would be a pretty lousy conman if he didn't expect something like this every now and then.

With a less smug, but still really irritating smirk, the middle-aged, bushy eyebrowed, scruffy-looking man moved his hand to the middle-most cup. With two firm, almost overly dramatic, taps on the top of it, he said.

"Right back where it all started, missy."

Lifting the cup with a yanky flick of his wrist, sure as the sun shines, there it lay. The black marble. Staring the Amazoness back in the eye with its smooth, uncaring surface gleaming in the morning light.

Leela stared at the marble for a few, long moments. That was the proof, then, that he really had slipped a move past her and been much faster than she thought after all. Which... Didn't feel any better, and actually felt worse than if she had simply not felt like she could keep up at all, but it was there staring her in the face. With one, loud sigh, she reached up to scratch at the side of her head and untucked the spear from her side.

Then, suddenly the clack of the butt of her spear being banged against the ground sounded as the Amazoness took a deep breath. Back straight, stance wide and chest puffed out, she declared in a tone that held a sense of determined finality to it. "I admit to having underestimated you today, 'fastest hands in Orario', but I will be back!"

With that said, she turned away to head back onto the streets once more. After a few steps, however, she paused before quickly turning around and gesturing with her spear towards the man and spoke again in the same tone at first before quickly shifting to a lighter, casual one. "But before I go! How do I find the familia of the gods from here?"

As the woman declared her defeat, loud and clear for anyone nearby to hear, Merek's face lit up with even more glee. This woman was fantastic! Not only had she fallen for the sham and been fleeced of her money, but now she admitted that she had lost fairly, meaning any musings or murmurs about him potentially cheating had been cleared away like a gust of fresh air throgh a stuffy room. What's more, the bimbo had declared that she would return to try again - a notion that made the man almost crack up with laughter, but he managed to contain it to a broad, tense smile instead... A smile that twitched at the edges.

As the Amazoness left, the two girls waved her off and half-yeleld soft invitations to come and play again. When she stopped and pointed her spear back at the con-artist though, he momentarily felt a bead of sweat form on his brow... Only to be at once dispelled by her question.

Right. This girl was a moron.

The trio burst into laughter, though the two women did what they could to hide it behind hands that covered their motuh. Merek, on the other hand, had his hands on his hips and roared in amusement.

"You daft girl? Look around! They're practically everywhere! Just look for those overly big manors with the flags and banners and such. You'll find one wherever you go in this city" He yelled back, in an actual act of sincerity... If only to further earn the patronage of his potential golden goose.

"If you're unsure where to go, you could always visit the Guild over in the north-west part of town." One of the women called out in addition, smiling happily - from amusement, at the expense of this silly girl.

Routine, routine, routine: that's what Dahlia had been doing. Like most days, she had leapt out of her bed minutes before 6 AM. After spending those minutes cleaning herself up and putting on her work clothes, she went to work on the morning preparations for the library. Her morning duties primarily included moving carts for the other, more withered scholars and doing a cursory inspection on the state in which the library was is. After all, for the more educated city folk, the knowledge that was being held within the library's walls was a necessity. The knowledge of the world that had been collected over generations was housed primarily in this place. Most could only read common books of no historical importance. The more... rare books had a tendency to fall apart if one so much as glanced at a page incorrectly. Such was the life of a book. Paper had a tendency of lasting no more than a few dozen years, especially if the keeper of the book kept it as a coaster.

At exactly 8 AM, Dahlia got out of her clean, sanitary work clothes and put on her thick outside garments. Kept far away from any book rarer than 'Basic Arithmatic for Children', the garments contained the dust and undesirable particulates that the outside world so often contained. Even though she did her best to clean and detox her outside clothes, they could never fully get clean, so it would seem. Well, that didn't quite matter. They were just going to get dirty once again. Leaving towards a cafe that would open its doors at 8 (considering how the proprietor also lived there), she went to grab her breakfast.

Of course, she would eat the same thing that she ate for breakfast every day: a cup of tea, a cup of milk, a handful of roasted berries, and a considerably sized piece of bread. As she chomped down on her meal, something caught her eye. On the ground, somebody else's berry had fallen and made a new home. A greedy fly slowly buzzed down, circled it, and landed. Brief curiosity enthralled Dahlia as she looked at the fly. Well, as good as an opportunity as any. Slowly reaching for a book kept on her hip, she would begin to mark down the interactions of the fly. Suddenly, a second fly began to buzz for the same meal. What was going to happen? Were the flies friends and going to share, or were they enemies and they were willing to fight tooth and nail, er, proboscis and tarsus for the last piece of discarded roastberry? The second fly made his move! It quickly buzzed down onto the back of the first fly and—

Oh. Oh my.

With her breakfast out the way, it was time for Dahlia to figure out what she was going to do for the day. After all, it was finally the day in which she would start her sabbatical. Though, the details of which were a bit fuzzy. The plan was that she, the strongest of the scholars (which wasn't saying much), was to become an adventurer to verify and record all of the information pertaining to the labyrinth. Of course, the idea for it was her own. Even though she wanted to stick to her simple routine of waking, working, sleeping, she felt a dreamlike compulsion to create her future magnum opus: an encyclopedia.

Well, she needed to break the ice with a familia first. Every journey began with a single step. It was more like a couple thousand for Dahlia, though. Unable to gain the resolve, she had spent a few hours pacing outside of a large fenced house that bore the banner of Athena. She'd gain the courage later. After all, her sabbatical was rather long. She could spend some time getting the courage. She could afford that.

Torran calmly wandered through the streets of Orario, having fled his parent's home only a few hours prior. He had finally started his long journey down the path of an Adventurer, and he was beaming with excitement at the prospect of finally doing something as interesting as going in the dungeon! The sun beamed down with a soft intensity, and while it might have been a bit hot otherwise, a gentle breeze made it the perfect setting for going down into the dungeon - at least, to Torran it did. He maneuvered through the streets with some difficulty due to the crowd, but he knew his way around the city thanks to outings with his father to the Tower. It was always really exciting going there, but rather than talk to one of the many adventurers that shopped and made a living there, Torran was going to become one of them and explore the depths of the dungeon.

Well, he was, but it was about halfway to the Tower when he finally remembered something that the Adventurer who came to his home said. If he wanted to actually do well in the dungeon, he was going to have to find a Familia... Joining one of the familias in the Tower was a definite possibility, but that would lead to quite a few awkward conversations with his father whenever the man came to sell his wares...

This conundrum quickly gave Torran pause, and he physically had to stop and sit down on a nearby bench in order to think of a solution to his predicament. Where could he possibly find a Familia? He could visit the Tower and ask around there, but they might just tell him to join the familias that worked on the upper floors, which he couldn't do. Maybe search around and look for one of the homes that familias operate out of? But the manors that proudly displayed this status were so big and intimidating - if Torran embarrassed himself in one of them, he'd probably just end up going back home with his tail between his legs.

The issue was incredibly difficult to figure out for someone of Torran's intellect, so when a distraction presented itself, he leaped at the chance to push this problem aside. A pair of children were wandering around the street he was on, nervously asking anyone they saw where their mother was. The average person would almost certainly assume based on their dreary wardrobe that they were orphans or urchins, and looking for a parent would be a fruitless endeavor - unfortunately, Torran lacked the mental prowess that the normal person possessed. He quickly rose from his seat and made his way towards the pair with a purposeful stride, which only made the massive man look more intimidating.

"What's wrong? Do you two need any help?"

The girl seemed somewhat intimidated by Torran's approach, but the boy was eager to accept any help that he could get.

"We're trying to find our mother - have you seen her, Mister?"

Torran thought hard for several seconds before giving up - he had to admit that he had never met their mother in his life. This was expected of course - he didn't even ask them what their mother's name was.

"I don't think so... Oh, I know! Let's ask some people nearby!"

The girl's face dropped at this slightly - her brother and her had been doing just that for what felt like hours so far, and while he seemed eager to continue, she was starting to get sore from all the running around. Her brother responded to Torran's statement in her stead.

"We've been doing that already, and it's not working very well..."

Torran paused at this and thought carefully. After another few seconds of introspection, he had an ingenious idea! The Boaz gently picked up both children (who immediately began freaking out in response) and placed them on his shoulders. His shoulders were wide enough to give both children amble sitting room, although the girl was even more apprehensive and intimidated now. Torran spoke to them as he began walking, and several other people on the street gawked at his display.

"If you're up this high, it'll be much easier to see your mother! We can look for her while I try to find a familia!"

Torran was quite pleased with his ingenuity here - two birds with one stone, right? He was oblivious to the reactions of the people around him as well as the children he placed on his shoulders, instead continuing on his search for where he might find a familia to join.

Outside of Warrior's Rest, Athena Familia's home.

"What're ya doing?" A sudden voice piped up from behind the girl in thick clothes who was pacing back and forth outside the villa.

It belonged to a very short, very inquisitive looking young girl... No, a pallum, who was busy holding two large bags, one in each hand. They were somewhat scraping against the road though, on account of her short statue and them being rather large. They seemed to be filled with a variety of thing, from vegetables and fruits to what looked like glass jars of who-knows-what and even some glass-wares. Still, the chestnut-haired pallum had seemingly forgotten all about her luggage and was busy focusing all her attention on the human lady infront her.

"Ya lost? Main street's over that-a way, ya know." The shorty said, pointing a luggae-hauling arm over back over in the dirction of another street a ways away. Lowering her arm, she smiled happily. "Don't go getting lost, yeah? Might run into ne'er-do-wells who'll gobble a pretty face like yours right up." She laughed, at this prospect which was not in the least bit funny.

She then hoisted the bags back an inch or so above ground and began to move again - towards the villa with the banner of Athena on it. It was only once the pallum had passed by the human however, that it became obvious. She had an Athena emblem too! Attached to her cloak... Which was an odd choice, since most people carried them somewhere on the front of their bodies, for ease of noticing...

Northern Orario.

"Uhm, wait, what? What's this about a Familia?" The boy tried to make sense of what the gargantuan man-beast had just said, but it was hard to focus when you were basically being kidnapped and headed for gods-know-where without any way to resist. His sister, far more frightened, could only clutch onto the giant's shoulder - and hair - in an attempt to keep herself from losing her balance.

"L-listen, Mister! Our mom took us here to meet someone, but we got seperated. She doesn't belong to a Familia!" The lad protested, trying his best to explain what had happened, and why the sudden decision to go look for one of the many Familia in Orario would not yield mother-related results.

A bunch of passerby's were now whispering, some pointing, and casting worried glances at the giant man with two, nearly crying, children on his shoulders... Children who looked nothing like him at all...

Normally, people who walked away from a bet with not a single Vallis left to their name would do so with a downcast, or perhaps even furious, demeanor. The Amazoness, however, walked away in much the same mood as she had arrived with. She still walked with a confident pep in her step, marveling at the sheer size of the labyrinthine city and the sheer number of people within it. Since she was broke, though, she did think it important to focus on joining a familia sooner than later in the day - it would be annoying to have to venture out of the city to go hunting and camping again simply because she didn't have money on hand.

So, she followed the advice she was given and kept an eye out for manor like buildings with banners and other such signs. The first one she tried, as it turned out, did not explore the dungeon at all and were not warriors - an honest mistake that was brushed off with some mutual laughs and well wishing as she went on her way to the next one. Paradoxically in her eyes, said next one didn't accept applicants that approached their doors and instead only scouted out people they were interested in themselves. Foolish, since by the time she was a famous adventurer they might approach she would already have joined a wiser familia than theirs, but she simply shrugged and continued on.

Unfortunately, the attempts after that were even worse:
"You're not an adventurer yet? Come back when you've actually been in the Dungeon, assuming you don't die first!"
"You'll have to pay a five thousand vallis membership fee if you want to join!"
"You're not even leveled yet? We don't accept new members under level three!"
"Your kind isn't welcome here, Amazoness!"
"You're broke? So, what, you just want to mooch off us? Come back when you have a job and can actually contribute!"

Among others were similar reasons - some only accepted locals from Orario itself, or from other regions. One was dwarf-only, and so on and so forth. Being turned away time after time was getting tiresome, but there were so many future options she simply dismissed it as bad luck at first. Surely she would start coming across familia who didn't care about such things. And she did, but... In some ways, their complaints were even worse.

Some rejected her over being skimpily dressed, to put it in far more polite terms than they themselves had. Others threw her out the moment they saw that the... Blessings, so to speak, of their Captain or Goddess were paltry compared to her own! What was wrong with her manner of dress? Some Amazoness dressed in an even more revealing way than she did! Although under the initial irritation, she did find it oddly flattering to be a target of such blatant envy and jealousy from familia Captains and Goddesses - a single silver lining in her disheartening experiences so far.

None of those, however, were as bad as the single worst and most insulting reception she had received:
"Did you find that spear somewhere and decide to try adventuring on a whim? You've got way too much meat on your bones to be fit for it!"

It took every last ounce of self control she had to simply storm out instead of actually losing her temper. Stomping through the city streets, the Amazoness was in as foul a mood as she had ever been in. The crowd around her gave a wide berth - they didn't want to accidentally bump into or otherwise set off someone so clearly irate. Clutching her spear so tightly in one hand her fingers hurt, jaw clenched just as tight, she could only fume over the sheer gall of calling her weak, dismissing her training, and insulting her figure all in one breath.

Not helping matters was that she had been at her search for quite awhile now, stopping at each and every familia along the way until she had gone from the south side of the city all the way to the north. She was getting tired, and hungry, and all together just feeling disappointed and frustrated - she wasn't as skilled as she had thought, the familia had far more arbitrary conditions than she expected, and she had never been more brazenly insulted in her life! Perhaps she should simply venture into the Dungeon on her own for the time being, to renew her income and prove those that had scorned her wrong?

She had half a mind to try that course of action... But no, that seemed foolish at this point. There were still more familia to try! Where was it one of the girls with 'Fastest Hands in Orario' had suggested she try? The north-west? Perhaps they had known full well how the familia between here and there were, and she should have simply gone straight to the one they recommended and saved herself some time and grief?

With a long, deep breath, the Amazoness did her best to perk herself up as she headed to the north-west part of Orario in search of the suggested familia. Hopefully this one would be different.

"Eh?" A confused Dahlia sputtered as she leapt from being startled. She'd been ganked from behind by a mid- pallum. One that looked incredibly busy, judging by the large bag she carried on each hip. She had given directions to main street, but main street wasn't exactly where Dahlia wanted to be. It was much too dirty, what with all of the foot traffic there. Punctuating her directions with calling Dahlia pretty and implying something bad might happen to her here was lost on Dahlia's mind. Really, it just went straight over her head. Instead, Dahlia began to sputter in her own confusion as the pallum walked away.

No, she couldn't let it end here. She needed to bite her tongue until it bled! Wait, that was an allegory for something else. She had to join a familia, so she would start here! She bore the crest of the familia outside. Perhaps this was meant to be her entry in!

"Wa-wait!" She called out to the pallum. "I'd like to, er, apply to your familia." She paused for a brief moment, staring down the pallum as she realized that she missed out on a crucial step. As though a literal candle had been lit over her head, she pulled out her book before turning to the very first page. Inside, a single loose piece of paper that had been filled with writing.

"Here's my application," she said, "may I ask that you bring it to your god?"

Torran paused his march down the street as the boy began yelling for his attention. The small children were still distressed, despite his best attempts to placate them. He immediately removed them from his shoulders, seeing as the girl was on the verge of tears - she obviously was afraid of heights, and the sudden rise clearly frightened her. Torran was absolutely appalled at his lack of grace regarding the situation, not thinking of such an obvious fear for a child to have. In fact, Torran was also afraid of heights - he's just used to being tall, unlike the little girl! Torran was completely oblivious to the whispers that started going through the nearby crowd, and the fact that both children were merely frightened by the fact that a complete stranger was trying to take them somewhere by force.

But this presented a big dilemma to Torran. He had to find a Familia, and while his previous idea of looking for their mother and a Familia at the same time was absolutely genius, it now had a big hole in the fact that these children were scared of being as tall as Torran was. But then how in the world could Torran manage to find a Familia? It was honestly baffling. But then, a stroke of incredible intellect struck the lumbering man, and he immediately questioned the children.

"Do you know who the person your mother wanted to meet is? If we can find them then we will be able to find your mother!"

Perfectly deduced - as soon as Torran found this mystery person, he could hand the children off to them, and proceed on his quest to find a Familia that will accept him. Not as elegant as his previous plan, but Torran couldn't immediately think how fear in heights would cause the plan to fail.

Orario did not disappoint as far as liveliness went. Even at such an early hour, the city was brimming with life - far more so than any place Ayame had ever seen. People of all shapes and sizes filled the streets, flowing through the city like a colorful stream. They left a melody in their wake, one comprised of chatter, clatter and the pitter-patter of people going about their day.

To many, Orario was no doubt an oasis of diversity and vigor. It certainly had been to Ayame, when she'd first arrived to the city. She'd slipped out of her carriage bright-eyed and hopeful, ready to embrace the inevitable fortune that would fall onto her lap once she set foot into the bustling city proper.

But that was half an hour ago.

"Can you not watch where you're going? The gods gifted you with eyes for a reason! ... Ack! You-- must you sell fish out in the open? It reeks! Wait, it's-- gods, it's not the fish that reeks, it's you! Have you not heard of a bath!? This is foul."

Ever so slowly, it had become clear to Ayame that Orario was no oasis. Nothing was ever still. It was never quiet. And no matter which way Ayame tried to turn, she never quite managed to avoid bumping into someone the second she dared let her gaze wander. Worst of all, though she'd been wandering the streets for quite a while now, no one had yet to approach her with a promise of riches. What gave? She was supposed to be able to earn a fortune in this city, yet she couldn't recall the last time she'd felt quite this unfortunate.

Did--- did someone touch her tail again?!

That was it.

Ayame yanked her precious appendage and pressed it against her chest, stomping her way forth as quick as her clearly-not-made-to-stomp-on-cobblestone shoes would allow. She wasn't going to take this anymore. She may not have been the richest person alive any longer, but her performances and adoring fans had provided her with enough money to keep her appearance prim and proper enough to befit a lady. She deserved better than to wander some stuffy streets in search for--- for something she couldn't even place a name on.

"Think," she mumbled to herself as she went. Think. How exactly would one earn a fortune here? She'd heard of adventurers and a labyrinth, but--- but surely she wasn't expected to actually partake in hard labor to earn her keep? That was--

Oh, what was this now?!

A small crowd had gathered square in the middle of the street. Even when on her tiptoes, Ayame could only barely see why; from the looks of it, there was some sort of an argument going on. Over what, Ayame could not tell - nor give a care about. What she was concerned with was that these people were in her way, and she was tired of having to be the one to constantly try and not bump into people. This time, she would absolutely, positively, not budge.

She shoved her way closer to the epicenter of the problem, then directed her words at the loudest members of both factions.

"Excuse me!" she shouted sharply, all her frustration over the day's events poured into her tone. She stood with one hand on her hip, the other still clutching to her tail. Its tip was twitching. "It would appear the lot of you are lost. If I'm not mistaken, the the livestock merchant is back that way," she pointed further along the road. "Perhaps you wild boars should go make his acquaintance. You look as though you need some domestication. This street is for people to walk on, and you're making that quite difficult. Please do take your bickering elsewhere."

At Warrior's Rest, West-north-western Orario

"Here's my application," she said, "may I ask that you bring it to your god?"

The pallum with the bags stopped, turned around and looked at the human. Confused. her expression was that of being both puzzled and amused at the same time. Without a word she trotted back to the black haired human girl, set down one of her bags and then plucked the scrap of paper. She didn't so much as glance at, or take a peek, at what was actually written - but rather just put the little paper-piece down into one bag, before picking up the one she'd set down.

"Alrighty, if that's what ya want." She said, smiling gingerly, then turned on her heel and went on to proceed inside the building.

For what felt like a long time, but was actually at most a couple of minutes, nothing happened. Then there was some sort of noise or commotion from within the building in question - though exactly what was causing it or why was unclear. Regardless, it simmered down ventually, and soon the front door swung open again. However, this time it was not the pallum girl, but rather two other figures who emerged out of the doorway. One was a rather large, old-looking man dressed in dark clothes, with an eyepatch over one eye and a grim expression on his face. The other was a young looking woman in a stylish and elegant ensemble, with long blonde hair and a serene expression on her face.

The two walked out of the building and approached the girl in the many-layered clothes. The bigger man trailing slightly behind the woman. As they got closer, it was apparent that the woman was holding the girl's scrap of paper in one of her hands, the paper slightly creased and wrinkled though - likely from the pallum's careless handling of it. Once within an agreeable distance from the applicant, the pair stopped and gave her a once-over, eyes taking in and judging, measuring and analyzing this newcomer.

"So, you want to join our Familia?" The elderly genetleman said, voice low and deep, but still clear and audible. "Why'd you choose this one?" He added, almost as an after-thought.

The blonde woman said nothing however, merely standing next to her much taller cohort and listening, waiting.

"Here's my application," she said, "may I ask that you bring it to your god?"

The blonde woman said nothing however, merely standing next to her much taller cohort and listening, waiting.

Meanwhile, the pair before the human girl had stood in complete silence and listened to what she had to say. Once she finished her blather and myriad reasons, desires, wishes and subpar praise, the two looked at each other. The blonde woman raised a single eyebrow at the large, elderly chienthrope, who's face was the same as when they had first spoken. He nodded slightly and looked at the girl with black hair once more, narrowing his eyes and speaking more sternly this time.

"You could write a book in any Familia, the blessings of the Gods are all equal in the end." He folded his arms. "What you offer are duties and talents that Lady Athena already has and performs personally." The large, muscular senior citizen seemed to loom over the poor girl, like a towering goliath looking down upon something small and insignificant.

however, before the behemoth completely squashed the poor woman with his immense pressure, the blonde woman raised a hand and looked at him with a... Neutral, expression on her face.

"Come now, Grent. She wishes to do something that benefits everyone who delves into the dungeon. And an extra pair of hands never hurts to have." She spoke calmly, but not necessarily kindly. "Dear girl, if you want to become one of my Children, I won't turn you away. Your goal is a most curious, but welcome, one indeed." She smiled slightly. "However, I must know what you are capable of, not in words or writing, but by your actions and efforts." The Goddess moved closer to the young woman before her, looking her square in the eyes. "I will offer you my blessing, and you'll in turn spend 7 days proving to me and my other children what you're capable of. Prove to them, and to me, that you're someone we'd be proud to call a member of, and someone who'd be useful to our little Familia."

The old man either growled or grumbled something under his breath. Athena's eyes subtly slid to give him a glance, before returning to the girl before her once more.

"But it'll be up to you to figure out how to prove this to us on your own. That will be your trial and initiation. So what do you say, girl?" The Goddess' smile was only ever so slight, but she spoke with sincerity and offered the black-haired mess infront of her an extended hand.

Despite the large man's pressure, Dahlia was... unfazed, to say the least. His threat level had gone completely over her head. Really, if he outright stated that she was ineffectual, weird, or any other pejorative, then Dahlia would be shrunken into herself. His stern voice was, to the book-dwelling woman, just his ordinary speaking tone. If only he were a touch more direct, then Dahlia would respond with more than a confused shrug.

"Oh, uh..." Dahlia sputtered. Really, it was that easy? Had she known, she wouldn't have studied so much on the various gods. Oh well. "I will say yes."

The offer was indeed a fair one. A week to prove herself was more than enough. Really, it was more in order to not absolutely moff everything up and show that you weren't about to be a level-0-for-lifer. Dahlia had the confidence. Even if she had very little practical experience, her theoretical experience contained lifetimes of knowledge. Blessed be the books that she read in preparation for her labyrinth runs.

Still, it was time to seal their deal. With her gloved hand, she went and extended her hand out to the woman, er, goddess. Though, it wasn't exactly a handshake. Rather than that, Dahlia had responded with the opposite hand. Usually, for a hand shake or anything of that sort, the two parties would both use their left or right hand. Dahlia didn't and, as a result, sort of had her hand placed upon the goddess' like a wet noodle. It was a gold star for effort as she fumbled around on top of her hand a bit trying to figure out how a handshake worked.

"So, uh, what now?"

The Goddess laughed lightly, covering her mouth with her free hand in an effort to not offend. The fumbling handshake and the young girl's rather socially awkward behavior was apparently somewhat charming or endearing to Athena.

"Now we head inside, so I can bestow the Blessing of the Gods upon you. After that-" She paused and turned on he heel, gesturing towards the house - which the large chienthrope was already walking back towards. "-you're fre to choose whatever you want to do in order to prove yourself over the next few days."

With that, the Goddess too began walking back towards the large house, at a slow and unhurried pace.

Meanwhile, on the east main street of Orario:

There was an awkward silence all of a sudden. Many heads were turned and looking at the source of the stream of insults that had just left the lips of a young Renard, standing alone and pointing in the direction of the two arguing groups.

Slowly, but steadily, any nearby pedestrian began to shuffle and slink away from the young fox-girl's immediate vicinity, discreetly for sure, but doing it nontheless. The reason? Well, both groups of angered and upset hot-heads were now focusing their fiery, dagger-peering eyes at the young woman with the big mouth.

For what seemed like a miniature eternity, nothing happaened. Nothing at all.

But then it did happen. Something.

"The heck you say?" One of the larger more hulking brutes exclaimed with a voice that sounded like his vocal cords had been brushed with a cheesegrater.
"Who the hell are you, bitch!?" One of the other group's members cried out, a butch-looking woman with a nose-piercing.
"WHo cares!? This brat needs some attitude-adjustment!" Another called out.

And then, as if some divine power had interfered and unified their hearts and souls into a single, glorious and hive-minded higher entity, the two previously bickering sides had joined together in perfect harmony... Only to let out a sudden, combined, unanimous roar:

"GET HER!"

At this point, any on-lookers were clinging to the walls of nearby houses with their backs, staring on in a mix of amusement, horror or disbelief as six armed, dangerous-looking individuals now raced towards a single, seemingly unarmed young girl who had said far too much It would only take a few seconds, unless the girl turned and started running herself, before the pack of enraged boars would be upon her and deliver swift, merciless Orario justice to the outsider...

"Do you know who the person your mother wanted to meet is? If we can find them then we will be able to find your mother!"

This was asked after the gargantuan colossus had put the two squirmings, uncomfortable and frightened children back down onto the street. Having been released from the clutches of the giant, the little girl now half-hid behind her brother, holding onto his arm for dear life. She didn't look like she was going to cry anymore, and the sudden release of the two youngsters had caused the crowd of increasingly suspicious people to disperse. Somewhat. Slightly.

"Uhm... M-mom had us help carry the baskets." The boy stammered. "There were sheets in them, for someone in a big house... Mom does their laundry... I think." He explained nervously, trying his best to regain whatever composure a child could manage in the face of El Gigante.

"The people there are strange.." Said the girl, hoarsely and barely audible from behind her brother's back. The boy nodded in agreement. "Yeah, they all have mean faces and carry around dangerous stuff, like knives and bigger knives!" The boy gestured with his hands and arms to emphasize the difference between just a knife and a much bigger knife. "Mom always told us not to talk with them... But one of them came up and started speaking with us, we got scared... So we-"The boy paused. "We got scared and ran. 'Cause mom was in the house, giving back the things... We thought we could run away, and come back before she left... But she never came out, or we missed her... We looked, but couldn't find her." The explanation was graspable if a bit haphazard and all over the place.

"The house is over that way." The girl pointed with her free hand, towards the north-east part of the city.

"Perfect! Let's hurry off then!"

As soon as the child pointed in the direction of the house, Torran immediately started walking that way, only keeping a slow enough pace for the children to keep up. Despite the prospect of their being knives and 'bigger knives' in the house, Torran seemed completely unbothered. Whether that was because he had experience being around a lot of weaponry, or he was just too dull to pay attention to the fact there are armed people in the building is anyone's guess. As he walked down the road, making a large path through the crowd thanks to his massive dimensions, Torran realized he should probably be dispensing some wisdom to these children, as the adventurer he met last night did to him.

"You know, you should never run away from adults - after all, they only want what's best for you!"

Sure, the descriptions of the people in this house seemed a bit dreary and rough, but in Torran's mind, this was surely just children being intimidated by bigger adults than they were used to. After all, these children seemed a little bit like scaredy cats - they were scared of being only 6 feet or so off the ground! As such, Torran completely ignored that there may be dangerous criminals inside of the building, and continued on his way to the house, speaking to the siblings as he did so.

"You must be excited to see your Mother again - a few years ago, I couldn't be without my parents for a few hours without being scared. You two sure are tough!"

While the gargantuan Boaz was making an effort to walk slowly, what was considered slow to him was, in fact, a very brisk pace for two youngsters who had not yet fully grown their legs. Having to almost jog to keep up with the lumbering mass, who was strangely swift and good at clearing a path through a crowd, the two siblings did what they could to stay with him.

The words that blurted out of the fellow's mouth were none too comforting, nor particularly uplifting - as such, the two children only listened, rather than respond. After all, despite being kids, even they could tell that their mother was likely not at the house anymore, since quite a while had passed since their separation. Still, with the big, hulking fellow by their side, even the knife-wielding scary people of that house may be willing to at least tell them in what direction their mother had gone... Maybe?

After a little bit of walking, with no rest or breathers to speak of, the trio finally arrived. A large, dark-colored building of wood, stone, and brick, with dark blue-colored roof tiles and a tall, black iron fence with spiked poles, surrounding the entire compound. There was a gate, but it had been shut and seemed locked, and nobody could be seen in the courtyard or immediately outside the fence or gate. At least, nobody wielding big knives, or even bigger knives.

"Th-this is it." Said the boy, huffing and puffing, trying to catch his breath from the power-walk he had just had to endure to get here. "Mo-Mother went in there to- to hand back their laun... laundry."

"Wha- What now...?" The girl squeaked, tired and teary-eyed.

Torran stared at the building with a relatively benign expression. It didn't look like anything special, and he wasn't really expecting anything dangerous in the first place - he simply saw it as another large building that was in the city. More interesting than the building were the people residing within it. Torran always thought that doing laundry was difficult, but his mother had helped him a lot in learning how to properly clean and dry it... So why did the people here not know how? Perhaps they never learned properly?

Torran never really thought about the fact that they could just be paying someone to do something they simply didn't want to do, and that there was no real hidden meaning behind the action. He decided not to ask about their laundry habits, instead looking at the two children as they spoke.

"Well, now we just have to knock and ask them where your mother is! I'm sure they'll know, adults know a lot of things..."

Torran lied - despite being an adult, he didn't know much at all, and he was well aware of that fact. Most other adults knew many things, like how his mother knew how to cure a cold with warm soup, and his father knew how to tell where a scar or bruise would form. He tried to dismiss this line of thinking, as it always saddened him greatly. To distract himself, he walked up to the door and knocked.

After a short amount of time it opened, and Torran launched into explaining his presence.

"Hello, sir! I found these children on the street, and they said their mother was here earlier - do you know where she could be?"

"Yes," Dahlia replied, "of course."

There really wasn't much to say about what was going on. She was, of course, very interested on what the ritual entailed. Would it be a consummation of some sorts? Wait, didn't that word have other connotations? No matter, what did matter was that she would finally get to experience that ritual first hand! Of course, she did have a vague idea on what it entailed. The writings at the library held vague ideas about the process. To actually go through with it? Well, she could record the process forever. The library, and by extension, the rest of Orario could have it kept in records just in case. Though, that was under her assumption that every ritual was the same. There were certainly dozens of different fictional tales about adventurers being blessed by a god. One of them even... consummated the act. Though such an act was total taboo, it did make for something that lonely housewives liked to read.

Wait, what was she doing again? Right. She went inside the house with the god, excited on what would happen next.

What followed Ayame's scolding was silence and oh, was it ever so sweet. The thugs, now quiet as a grave, turned to look at her in unison - as they very well should have. Ayame expected them to look her in the eye while apologizing. Anything less would be most rude, and earn them another round of reprimands.

The renard was only vaguely aware of everyone backing away from her. She could see people move, but figured they were simply about to return to their daily chores now that she'd successfully defused the situation. Out of every single person on the road, she seemed the only one blissfully unable to read the mood.

After a moment's wait, Ayame clicked her tongue. It was taking awfully long for these boars to open their mouths. She didn't have the whole day to wait for a few simple words of apology.

Finally, one of the men spoke - the ugliest one in the bunch, she noted. Though it was quite a close competition.

What came out his mouth was not regret. It was rage. And he wasn't the only one. His rude behaviour was soon echoed by another, then another, and then... another... Oh. There were... quite many of these ruffians, weren't there? ... No matter, numbers did not excuse rudeness.

"Wh- what did you just call me?" Ayame snapped at the butch woman's sudden name-calling. "Why, I'm not about to be insulted by someone with a bull's behind for a face!"

They were walking towards her now, their ill intent clear. But they wouldn't... they wouldn't truly dare lay a hand on her, would they? She was--- she was important.

"You would not dare," she stated, staring down the approaching group. Each step they took made her confidence falter that much more. "You would--- Do you have any idea who I am?! Not a single step closer now. N-not one. I'll--- I'll think you're serious if you... keep-"

Ayame threw a quick, pleading glance to her right. Anyone that happened to be within her line of sight quickly looked the other way. No way. No. Way. This could not be happening. Not to her. She was a lady!

"Ahhh, let the gods curse you all!" Ayame screeched, teary-eyed, as she whipped around and dashed away from the pack of bloodthirsty animals in human skin. She would remember this. Oh, yes, she would. One day, when she was rich and famous and all-powerful, she would remember this betrayal and buy this entire backwater town!

But first, she had to live long enough to see that day.

Neither Ayame's shoes nor physique were made for running, but panic was a potent motivator, pushing her forth like a dreadful tailwind. She nearly tripped once or twice, her ankle throbbing from missteps, but she could not afford to stop. Not before she found a place to hide. Yes, hide, but where!?

She could smell the thugs behind her, the stench as foul as their faces. At this rate, they'd catch up, unless she found a---

Ayame skid around a corner. There was a large villa a little distance from her. A spear of some sort sat embellished onto a banner on the wall. Ayame didn't really pay much attention to the details. All she saw was a door and a potential hiding place.

She stumbled through the gate to the door, banging her fist onto the door once, twice-- before forgoing that whole formality altogether. Instead, the fox grabbed the handle, flung the door open and practically threw herself inside with abandon, unaware and uncaring of what - or who - she might land on.

Northern Orario:

How the large fellow had managed to get inside the fenced-off courtyard, much more so when the gate was locked, would forever be a mystery. Regardless, he had arrived at the door to the large building, knocked and called out - even though nobody was present in the immediate vicinty. It thus took a little while, but eventually the door opened and a head popped out of the ajarred doorway. A bald fellow, with thick eyebrows, a goatee and a displeased frown on his face.

"What?" He said with a rough, croaky voice.

After the large boaz explained the istuation - as he perceived it - the bald man glanced over at the two kids, then back at the large home-invader.

"Ne'er seen those kids. If'n they be the laundry-maid's brats, she went home already. Now git." His speech was gritty and dismisive, obviously not keen on entertaining strangers. However, there must have been some kindness in his heart, or maybe he was just afraid the big one would keep pestering the abode unless he dangled a carrot infront of him. "Laundry-lady lives o'er at Daedalus' Street, take them brats there, ya find their mama." He added, closing the door in the grat tall one's face.

Of course, the children would be no help in telling him actually where this street was - seeing aas they had been unable to find their way back home earlier. Of course, there were strangers on the street one could ask, so all waas not lost just yet. The kids in question stood back over by the fence and gate to the large house, waiting for the return of their behemoth hero. Anxiety mixed with hope in their eyes.

Meanwhile at Warrior's Rest...

As Dahlia had entered the villa, she would notice at once that the interior of the building was as plain and unremarkable as the outside. A few tapestries, simple paintings and carpets were all the decorations to be found. There were lit floor-standing candlesticks to light the hallways and what looked to be a chandelier in the next room, a room that the large chienthrope headed towards right after entering.

The Goddess turned to her newly acquired, black-haired child and smiled slightly, raising an arm in a mock gesture of grandeur.

"Welcome to our Home, young one. Now, shall we go an--"

Unfortunately, the Goddess of Wisdom was interupted, as loud knocks banged on her front door. Then said door was forcefully opened and in rushed a stranger. Said stranger was not in full control of her own motion and proceeded to crash into the black-haired Dahlia - who, in turn proceeded to crash into Athena. A cacophony of clattering, thudding and outrageed or confused yelps were heard as the trio somehow meged into a living ball and slammed against the wall on the far-end of the hallway... The large man returned, none too rushed or perturbed by the noise, arriving to see three young ladies lying entweined and entangled on the floor in a heap. At this sight he raised a signle eyebrow, then turned to walk back away...

"G-Grent, you fool! Can you not see your Goddess is in danger!?" The indignant God cried as she tried to wrest herself free from the situation.
"I'm sure the Goddess of Wisdom and Tactical Warfare can manage something like this." The man said, not even stopping or turning his head.
"You traitor! No dinner for you tonight!"
"Guess I'll be eating out then."

The situation did not improve, as soon after this exchange, the door to the villa flung open again and new arrivals - six in total - barged into the hallway. Unfortunately, they too were in too great of a hurry to stop or abort their momentum, and the result was another six bodies added to the pile of on the floor. Grunts, squeals, insults, questions, panic and anger all streamed from the cluttered mass on the ground, with everyone pulling every which way to try and free themselves, only to snag, clutch or trip over someone else. At this additional racket, the head of the young pallum woman who had delivered Dahlia's letter arrived.

"What's with all the ruckus, Grent?" She asked, walking through what looked like a dining room, to get to the hallway.
"Nothing important." The man grunted.
"Sounds like fun!" The pallum exclaimed energetically.
"To watch, maybe." Grent's lip ever so slightly turned upwards.
"Stop commentating and help me!" Athena demanded. "Just what's going on here anyway!? Who are you people?"

With all of the hype and happenings that Dahlia was experiencing, she couldn't help but smile. Experiencing new things was always fun! Really, she couldn't overstate how excited she was for this. The initial ice had been broken, and all that was left were the showings of grandeur and vaudevillian action, then Dahlia would be (albeit probationary) adventurer! Really, nothing could go wro-

THWACK.

A major collision struck Dahlia and pushed her into the goddess. From there, the three of them had contorted into a human ball and rolled across the floor, only to stop when they collided with the wall. Dahlia made no effort to get up. Really, she thought that the people of the Athena familia just had very strange greetings for themselves. Not to mention, Dahlia was 100% in a comfortable position, resting gently between two others. She had slept in worse positions, definitely. She was in no rush to get out.

THWUMP. PLAP. TWUMP. KROMP. THROOLP. BOMP.

Now afflicted with groovy spine syndrome, her body resembled more of an surrealist painting than an actual human form. The six following collisions had contorted her body into a gross mix of pain and suffering. Still, she didn't move except for forcing her spine to not snap in half. What a strange greeting the people of this familia have, she thought. She'd mark this down in her encyclopedia, filed under "non-standard greetings of adventurers".

"So, urgh, hello-ow to all of you. Do you happen to, argh, know the cultural history of this greeting?"

He had heard the Athena Familia was still recovering from some tragedy or the other that had stricken them six years past, but, looking from the outside, it certainly looked like an exciting, rowdy place, popular enough that an excess of seven people would eagerly crash through the gates, apparently competing to see which one of them would be able to send their application first. Crazy stuff, honestly. Made Triss excited himself. After a whole two months spent on a boat, the Pallum was eager to stretch his legs, get his falna, and flex on some dungeon creeps, and though there was a part of him that worried about the Warrior’s Rest perhaps being a little too full of wannabes, the size of the estate looked like it could accommodate well enough. And if not…well, Triss could just sleep outside. Master’s training readied him enough for that too.

But no! No negative thoughts! It was going to be fine. It was going to be great. He was going to have a grand ol’ time in Orario, and he was going to rub it into all the haters’ faces once he started punching out Monster Rexes.

With a spring in his step and the door already conveniently opened for him, Triss strode in confidently, thinking nothing of it as he walked right up onto the top of the messy dogpile that rudely blocked the hallway. There were grunts, of course, some curses too, but the Pallum just thought they’d ought to be thankful he wasn’t wearing something brutal like stiletto heels. He hopped down afterwards, his braid bouncing up and down as he landed, his golden eyes bouncing from one face in the pile to another. Oh, there she was, right at the bottom! Golden hair, like the rays of the summer sun, ruby eyes, glimmering like pigeon’s blood. Amongst the swath of mortality, her divine aura radiated even as if she was mobbed by eight other fellows. Athena, Goddess of Wisdom and Warfare, truly must be loved, if she’d be glomped by so many random people on such a non-particular day.

No need for hesitation then.

Squatting down (for even he knew that it was rude to look down upon a flattened goddess), Triss said, completely ignoring whatever other words spilled from the mound of living dead, “I am Triss Honeyforge. Goddess Athena, allow me to join your familia!”

Certainly, there was a time and a place for everything. Triss simply believed that his time was the time for everything and anything, other people’s circumstances be damned.

"This is not a socia-glurfghf!?!" Athena's reply to Dahlia was cut short, by a sandal-clad foot stepping nonchalantly on her face.

At this point, the young pallum woman next to Grentiloch burst into tear-filled laughter, holding her sides as she nearly toppled over. Grentiloch himself had to raise a hand to his bearded face and cough once or twice, to cover up the apparent snicker that might have escaped his lips otherwise. As if insult to injury, the offender of said foot-to-face-planting now squatted down next to the Goddess and requested to join her Familia, all the while the heap of humanoid limbs and mouths wailed and flailed hopelessly.

"Enough of this! Everyone calm down!" Athena's patience was indeed plentiful, but even she had her limits when it came to chaos and disarray. Surprisingly, at the behest of the Goddess commanding voice, all voices simmered down and all movement slowed to a crawling, eventual halt.

After some careful, meticulous unravelling, the lump of bodies untangled and freed itself from its singular state, allowing all nine individuals to finally breathe and stand on their own feet. However, this brief respite did not last for long, as the six brutish ones soon began pointing fingers and hurling accusations and angry, hurtful words at the fox-girl who had been the first through the door.

The renard, on the other hand, looked deeply insulted and denied any allegations about her having called the half-dozen adventurers various names and insulted their pride. As the squabbling grew louder, the mistress of Warrior's Rest rubbed her temple before speaking up, loud enough to be heard above the other voices, but not loud enough to be shouting.

"Listen. I do not care if this girl insulted your mother or your Familia, you are all strong adventurers, are you not?" She had one eye closed and the other open, looking at the group with a furrowed brow. "Surely you can agree that meagre words are not enough to warrant you breaking into another Familia's home and assaulting a Goddess?" At this, the majority of the offenders grew pale faces and averted their eyes, scratched the back of their heads or mumbled something incoherent.

"I think we can all agree that this incident is best left as it is, no harm was done, and no harm needs to be done. To anyone." Saying this final piece, the adventurers bowed their heads, apologized in uniform loudness and then rushed out the door just as fast as they had arrived. Athena sighed and rested her forehead against her palm, looking rather exhausted. "Honestly, don't the others know how to raise their Children properly?" This was said more as a musing to herself, rather than to anyone present.

Turning around, there were still three newcomers present. The girl, Dahlia, the renard who had bee the initial gate-crasher, and the Pallum who had sought fit to walk over a cluster of people rather than around them. The red eyes of the goddess rested on the trio for a bit, before speaking once more.

"Now that things aren't so complicated, why don't we go ahead and introduce ourselves, properly?" She suggested, her expression less than amused. "I am Athena, Goddess of this Familia, and these two are Tiramis and Grentiloch, two of my children." She motioned towards the pallum girl and the chienthrope senior.

"Yup." The old man said, nodding.
"Nice to meet'cha! Just call me Tira, okay?" The littler female said, winking and smiling as brightly as the sun.

the fox went ahead, apparently thinking she was so entitled because....... Reasons? Apparently she was called Ayame and hailed from a distant region, and apparently the Athena Familia was lucky to have been graced by her arrival. Although she spoke very politely and was good at presenting herself in an appealing fashion - to Athena - she had a somewhat snooty and arrgant air about her, especially towards the others. The fox-girl then requested to join the Familia, apparently assured that she would be a great boon to their ranks, though how and why was never clearly explained...

Perfect! Torran had managed to save the day once again! The older man slammed the door violently in the Boaz's face, so Torran raised his voice a bit to make sure that the man heard him speak.

"Thank you very much, sir! Have a good day!"

Torran proceeded to turn around and walk back to the two small children standing by the gate in fear. Once he got close, he decided to reveal his discovery.

"Alright guys, I managed to figure out where your mom is! She's somewhere on Daedalus' Street."

Torran was met with confused looks, and he paused slightly. Did they not know where they lived? It should have been obvious since they were asking strangers how to get home, but it took Torran a few seconds to work through that problem. Normally it'd be left to him, someone who lived in the city for 23 years to navigate to the street, but Torran had never really explored the city to any major degree - he also had no idea where Daedalus' Street was.

Well, when you fail one plan, you just have to make another one! Torran decided that, now that he had a concrete idea where to look, asking for help from strangers would be far more effective at this point.

"C'mon, I'm sure we can manage to convince someone to give us directions now! After all, we know where we're going!"

Torran started walking back where he originally found the children, not taking time to see if they were following behind him. Not out of any ill will or anything, he just didn't think to check that they didn't fall behind. As he finally got to the street, he immediatly started asking random strangers for directions to Daedalus' Street.

While the dogpile (which turned out wasn’t a symbol of affection for Athena after all) disentangled and dispersed itself, Triss remained off to the side, watching the whole process with unveiled amusement. His parents would certainly love to hear about this, that was for sure! Of course, the choice words that passed between them all after everyone was up on their own feet again was a mite more questionable, some truly foul accusations levied against the fair Renard, but Athena was quick to act there as well; even though her own Familia were diminished, none of the ruffians looked to desire starting a war over the words of a Level 0 adventurer-wannabe.

Good. It’d be disappointing if she were a pushover or anything like that.

Standing beside the other new prospects in order from shortest to tallest, Triss sorta just…filtered out all the other words that came out of Ayame’s mouth as she went on about her ‘soupearity’ and whatnot. It was too long, didn’t listen, really. She sure did have a nice sounding voice though. Nice, strong and commanding, like someone who truly knew what they were doing. The Pallum considered this all, then decided that he may as well go and imitate her tone as well. No one negotiated with weaklings, after all (unless it was a charity, which Athena probably wasn’t running), and confidence was like, half the battle.

“I’m Triss Honeyforge.” He stood up straight and stared Athena right in the eyes, consequently bending his neck back a bit cause wew, 5'6 was still damn tall. “I punch things in the Far East. Now I'm here.”
