So, those who are unfamiliar with this semi-obscure science fiction series? It has a wikipedia page, but that info isn't strictly relevant. The basic premise is a shameless clone of "Lost in Space", because, well, it was written/made by the same people. The primary different being that LoTG wasn't a family, but some passengers and crew of an interstellar transit vessel, and instead of trying to navigate through unknown regions of space, their just trying to survive on 1 alien planet, and occasionally trying to make some progress towards getting off the planet again. The planet is populated by giants that resemble humans very closely, in almost every possible way, including clothing and technological development (albeit far less advanced, their level being closer to what we had on Earth in developed nations during WW2).

That being said, I want to "reimagine" the story, The basic premise is still there- a spacecraft crash landing under unusual circumstances, onto a planet populated by giant creatures, but that's where the similarities end.

The Giants don't resemble humans at all, and the same goes for wildlife/animals; nothing resembling life on Earth (as in, sure, there may be some life that resembles Earth fauna, like big cats, but won't resemble domestic cats of earth, same for arthropod/insectoid life).

The Giants are not as advanced; they're comparatively in their iron age, making and living in stone structures, and forging weapons and armor from simple metals and alloys. The Giants lead violent lives in an aggressive feudal society.

My idea in this is to make a more adventurous story, and I'm doing that by making a setting/environment where the danger is much more pronounced. There will also be a ticking clock, factoring in that search and rescue operations only go on for so long...

I'd prefer 7 players, but would settle for 4, with multiple npcs filling it out a bit.

Update

Update: A potential player and I did some discussing and worked out some details, and I'm just going to do the Reimagined/"New" version, not the classic.

That way, it can be some original characters.

I've edited the OP to reflect this.

I was not familiar with Land of the Giants. This little recap helped a bit (though I know we are going completely reimagined, it helped me to know the inspiration).

That said, I am tentatively interested! I'm excited to see what sort of ideas you've got brewing.

Update: working up a proper premise or intro for the story. Not sure if I want people to roleplay the crash, or just include that as part of the "intro". Definitely going to provide a list of roles to be filled, so people can submit characters appropriately. I'll make edits to the OP as necessary.

I think you could probably go either way.

If you start pre-crash, it gives people a chance to introduce their characters under raw, undiluted circumstances in a session of introductory exposition. If you do it post-crash, they can introduce elements of their characters in a sort of 'Lost' style, where they can feed bits and pieces of their life pre-crash (in flashbacks and recollection) as the RP goes on; a mix of exposition and present-based reaction.

I don't think there is a right or wrong there, but I would personally lean toward the post-crash scenario. Others might have differing opinions.

Familiarity isn't required, although I did include a link to the wikipedia page the purpose of making important information available, and @RedXIII shared a video that is good, as well. familiarizing yourself with this property isn't required, but it would be beneficial for prospective players.

Regarding the question of "can I play a giant", my answer is no. I made it clear in the OP that the player characters will be the survivors of the crash.

If you want to submit a character for approval, pm me with one filled out with the CS I provided.

Well, lesson learned: actually read the OP in the first place, and than nobody's time is wasted.

this chart will be useful for those of us who appreciate visual aids.

The size difference between humans and the Giants- The relevant items on this are 1)The Human, and 2)King Kong.

Dominic Ryder

Age: 32

Role: Engineer

Personality: Easy going, calculative and generous are three strong traits to describe Dominic. He wants to solve problems and have a good time doing it with whomever he happens to be around. He is not afraid to be the odd one out and figures if anyone doesn't like him for something superficial, like his many tattoos, then that's their problem.

Skills: As an engineer, Dom is very mechanically inclined and his curiosity breeds inventiveness. He enjoys tinkering and can even create simple gadgets to help aid in whatever predicament he finds himself in.

He works out regularly as part of his routine, so his body is in great physical condition.

Items: On board the Slingshot is his complete Tool Chest with various contraptions to aid in the repair and maintenance of the ship. While the chest is on wheels, it would be a stretch to call it truly portable. It weighs a great deal and can really only traverse smooth surfaces.

On his person, he always carries his Multitool which offers a variety of items including screw drivers, a knife, a fire starter, scissors, a file and more.

Still looking for more players, going to see what I can do for demonstrating the Giants' appearance in my vision for this. I didn't want to have to reveal it before the game even started, but, I also want to keep this alive in the hopes of getting it off the ground.
