I don't think we need 7 people fighting one enemy, even if it's something like Darkside. This is just how the plan for the story evolved over time, and the current priority is to get everyone out safely. So the two most capable fighters will basically hold Darkside off while everyone else gets on the ship, or is otherwise lost to darkness/whatever people's plans are to have happen for them to get to where they are going.
