IC: Adventure, moral complexity, and psychological tension. Expect battles that will make you question your past choices, ethical dilemmas, and moments where "doing the right thing" is anything but clear-cut, all influencing how the game's world evolves. OOC: Promoting player-to-player interaction and collaboration.
Welcome
Welcome to the experiment.
This game takes a different approach to how Digimon games are usually run on the Guild: Instead of one player writing both sides of the classic Digidestined/Partner Digimon pair, each side will be written by different players. This means your most important character relationship will be driven by collaboration, not solo writing.
Other options are available too - Spirit wielders and Wild Digimon. The core of this game is to experiment with different ways of playing in the Digimon setting.
It is unknown when, by whom or why the Digital World began. It is a realm existing hidden from humanity, quietly existing in their collective information systems. But now, the Digital World is in danger. Corrupted zones, where Digimon mutate unpredictably, glitches appear, and order is threatened, are spreading like a plague. Initially, everything seemed manageable, as powerful Digimon took it upon themselves to combat this emerging threat, and for a moment, they managed. Yet despite their effort, more and more of the world is being corrupted.
The Digidestined
And now the Digital World itself cried out for help, summoning and bestowing what power it could still offer onto a set of what would hopefully be its saviors - the Digidestined.
These saviors were selected because they are motivated to restore the Digital World. Their motivations are up to you though. Are they the altruistic hero? In it for the love of the game? Or do they think that they need to save the Digital world so there is something left to rule?
There are four character type options available in this game. More details are provided within each character sheet template.
Digidestined human - Your Tai, Rika or Marcus. The human who has been summoned to the Digital World and bonded with a partner to allow them to Digivolve quickly and aid the Digital World.
Partner Digimon - The other half of the bond. A Digimon who has been given a chance to make a difference, if only they can grow tight with their partner. Legend says that a partnership with a digidestined human allowa one to digivolve at unprecedented speed. This partnership can take any such canon form, from the OG friendships between Man and Mon, through a Tamer swiping cards, to a temperamental character using the raw power of their emotions to provide D.N.A. charge.
Spirit wielder - Season 4 character type. A human of a different sort, one who has been recognized for not being above putting their own back to work and life on the line. These Digidestined use spirits of fallen Digimon to become Human-Digimon hybrids to aid them in their mission. That is, if they can find spirits to use, and convince or control them well enough to aid them.
Wild Digimon - There are still heroes and powers native to the Digital World. Perhaps you are a former Mega who lost too many times and devolved, given another chance at greatness. Perhaps you are an idealistic rookie, who has been set on a path to make a difference. Or maybe you are just a mon who thinks they could do a better job of telling others what to do. Whatever the reason, you are a Digimon that has been picked to try and fix their world.
Your role
You are a Digidestined - whether a Digimon or a human - summoned in hopes of removing the corruption and restoring the Digital World. Early on, a powerful figure, Dominimon, speaks to you and offers guidance: His piece of the world is still safe, well-ordered, and defended, but it is under threat from a neighboring corruption zone. He entrusts you with investigating and neutralizing this growing danger, providing training, provisions, and support, before you set off on your journey...
Game rules
Changes - This game is intended to experiment with how this fandom is being played. That can lead to kinks, hiccups and problems. Therefore, GMs may choose to edit the rules on the fly to resolve them. There is a GM Noticeboard section here in the first post of the OOC, where a list of changes will be posted.
Inactivity - Life tends to get in the way of having fun, it's normal and it is to be expected. In this game, it has the potential of leaving your player partner hanging, more so than usual. Therefore, there is a relaxed, but enforced posting schedule, see the posting rules for details. If one partner goes AWOL, the story adapts: The Digimon can find a new partner, become Wild, or fade away. The human can partner again, or take up Spirit Evolution. Worst case scenario, single-player Digidestined/Digimon partnership will be allowed.
Player conflicts - Don’t worry if you and your partner player don't click even after a while. All of us should be entering with the experimental nature of this game in mind. Need to make a change? Make a story out of it! That's Digimon's DNA. Struggles, disagreements, and mismatched personalities are fuel for growth.
If you're still unsure - The story will be in episodic format, so there will be times when new players can jump in, or for existing ones to swap characters and partners. Therefore, staying around as a reader before deciding whether to hop on the bandwagon is an option.
BBCode hacks - If it could break on some devices, such as mobile phones, don't. I am looking at you, table-based character sheets and headings within subs within sups.
Image use in general - Be mindful of small screens and data-limited connection plans. So long as the images are not the height of a sheet of paper and of a size that expends your data limit in a single load, they're OK. For character images, keep in mind this is a manga/anime franchise, and the images you pick should reflect that. If you take an image from Deviantart or similar page, assuming the author allows it, add a link to the source below your images.
Images in IC posts - This is a primarily literature medium. Post headers are fine, as long as they fit the general rule on image use. But things like the visuals of Digivolution, character expressions etc. should be described in text, not with an animated gif.
Color coding is not mandatory, but encouraged. While books have been written in black and white for centuries and it is okay, color coding the post header and the "Character's speech." helps when you need to find a specific character's post for reference.
Game launch timeline and story structure:
Interest check - Running until the next point. Players joining afterwards will have to wait until the (early) end of the first episode.
Player pairing and character submission - Interested players will be given enough time (I'm thinking between 2 weeks and a month) to propose character concepts, find partner players for the digidestined/digimon pairs and flesh out character submissions. Spirit wielders and Wild Digimon can proceed to character submission directly. Submit your character sheets in the OOC, and move them to the character tab after approval.
Episode 1 - The introduction to the story. The team meets up in Dominimon's realm and undergoes orientation and training. This is intended to be a short chapter, so that everyone can get familiar to how the game feels. New players may join at the end, and existing players may swap partners/characters.
Episode 2 - The first 'real' story episode, concerned with repairing the corrupted zone near Dominimon's realm. New players may join at the end, and existing players may swap partners/characters.
Additional episodes - Further evolution of the story, depending on player actions in the previous episodes. Currently, I have 4 additional episodes drafted, but you know the saying about plans and first contacts. If there is demand, players can run their own episodes - whether they have a general story arc in mind, or have an idea for an arc focusing on their characters. And as usual, new players may join, and existing players may swap partners/characters at the end of each episode.
Each player is required to post at least once a week. E.g. within 7 days of the last advance post by the GM. If you are unable, request an extension from the GMs. In most cases, there will be no reason not to grant it, but it will allow the GMs and your possible partner player to work around your absence. You may instead give another player you trust the right to 'bunny' your character - To post as your character on your behalf.
The game will be advanced by GMs' post. In between, you are only allowed to post once per each of your characters (whether in a single post, or one post per character), unless all players not on leave have already posted once, in which case, the GM will either advance the game earlier, or you are allowed to post for another round.
NPCs are controlled by the GMs. Therefore, you may not describe their actions, or the result of your character actions upon them within your post, without GM approval. Usually, the results of actions on NPCs and their parts of the dialogue will be described by the GM during the game advancing post. This does not concern minimal interactions - yes, you can have the random Koromon passing you by blush if you call it cute.
Collaboration posts count as one post for each participating character. I may reverse this to encourage collaboration later, but I want a bit of stability at the start of the game at least, GM baby steps and all.
Try to stick to third person, past tense. No one is going to grade your posts though, don't worry.
Do not copy parts of others' post into your post. This includes dialogue.
Do not edit posts in IC or Characters section without prior GM approval being given. That said, feel free to bring up what you think needs editing, and we'll let you know.
Digimon types unavailable in the current state of the story:
DNA Digimon do not exist due to DNA digivolution being an unconfirmed possibility.
Fusion Digimon do not exist due to DigiFuse being an unconfirmed possibility.
X-antibody Digimon do not exist as there is no reason for X-Antibodies to exist.
Custom Digimon are subject to individual approval. As a general rule, new flavor variants (Agumon -> SnowAgumon, BlackAgumon, ToyAgumon etc.) are OK, completely custom Digimon will have to be reviewed.
Digivolutions must be earned. You will be notified by the GM when you have attained the required level, based on how your character developed and what they have accomplished. The GM will sometimes drop hints in posts when your character is nearing a digivolution milestone. There are specifics to the different character types mentioned in the character sheet templates.
DNA digivolutions - Currently unknown in the Digital World, or perhaps a subject of obscure myths and writings in ancient structures.
DigiFuse - I'm getting a headache just thinking about this, but if you absolutely feel the need, come to the GMs with a concept first before working on a full sheet, and we'll see.
Armor digivolution - Known to have existed in ancient times, but the artifacts that enabled it have almost vanished from the world. They must either be found, or perhaps a substitute can be discovered?
Digi-Modify - Part of a Tamer type character arsenal. Refer to Digidestined human CS template for details.
Biomerge - Currently a part of the Digidestined myth, but it is unknown if it is attainable. Perhaps a clue can be found with the Spirit Wielders?
Dark digivolution - Exists. You are NOT safe from the dark side.
Death-X evolution - See notes on character death below.
Custom Digivolution lines - Encouraged, especially if there is lore behind it.
Character deaths are possible. The rule? F*k about, find out. You pays your money, you takes your chances. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. You get it - If your character does something outrageously risky, it may result in a high reward, or a great harm. Fortunately though, the Digital World is a rather merciful place:
Humans - A human that is killed in the digital world is ejected back to the real world. They would have to put in some effort to find their way back, or they can be summoned again from within.
Spirits - Spirits are digimon that have already died, but even in death they refuse to move on. As such, they can not die again. If they are defeated while the spirit wielder is using them to digivolve, they are forced to continue the digimon lifecycle and return to life in the Starting Village. A spirit wielder may also use up the spirit's power for a strong move, also forcing them to move on.
Partner Digimon - These follow the normal digimon lifecycle of rebirth in the Starting Village.
Wild Digimon - These follow the same rules as Partner digimon, but they are eligible for Death-X evolution, if the GM deems it appropriate.
GM noticeboard
Latest updates: 11/10/2025 - I'm setting October 18th as deadline for human and digimon partner concept submissions. Afterwards, we'll establish the pairs, so that the partnered folk have time to work on their CS before the game starts.
Submissions for wild digimon and spirit wielders are open right until we start, of course.
6/10/2025 - Partner templates are up!
I've gone through the OOC and discord and put up the current partner pitches in the 1st post of the character tab. Let me know if anything changed since then, I 'll try to keep it updated. Once we all have our initial pitches up, we can start partnering up.
3/10/2025 - Wild digimon template is up.
I should post the partner templates tomorrow, but you can expect more or less a different flavor of the same - The key difference will be that the partner pair only has a single digivolution line available (Taken from the 'mechanics available at the start of the game' point of view, who can tell what the future holds ;) ), but they will not have to hunt for any knowledge or artifacts to obtain them - just get along with their partner. For the humans, I am inclined to use the tamer subtype, with access to the digi-modify mechanic.
As for the pairing process, I would suggest that those that expressed the want to play in a regular pair (and anyone else that didn't but feels so inclined) to create a short description of their character concept (or multiple concepts!). Then, we can all put them up and see which characters would make good narrative match. I imagine there could be a few rounds of this, during which new concepts maybe submitted or existing modified, until the pairs are established. Afterwards, you can go ahead and develop the full character sheets - that way you can avoid on working on a concept that won't be selected in the end in too much of a detail.
3/10/2025 - Spirit wielder template is up. I've also posted my character as example. You have leeway to get creative, and also to omit sections if it makes sense - If you provide enough images/faceclaim, appearance section is unnecessary etc.
2/10/2025 - OOC launched. Still working on chatacter tab stuff, most notably the templates for the various chracter types. About 1/3 done at this moment. It would be good for everyone to use this time to check all of the extant rules, see if you spot any immediate problem or something that needs to be clarified.
Spirit wielder template is up. I've also posted my character as example. You have leeway to get creative, and also to omit sections if it makes sense - If you provide enough images/faceclaim, appearance section is unncecessary etc.
Like with the general rules and setting, holler if you see an issue or if something isn't clear :)
Image use in general - Be mindful of small screens and data-limited connection plans. So long as the images are not the height of a sheet of paper and of a size that expends your data limit in a single load, they're OK
In addition to this, I just found out today that apparently Imgur is now completely blocked for all UK users as of a few days ago; meaning people from the UK cannot log in, upload images and even few images hosted on Imgur, including images embedded on third-party sites like this one.
Basically I can't see any of the images in your character profile.
Not sure if this is affecting anyone but me, but if possible could you use alternate image sources?
Name: Danny Dubois Age: 19 Gender: Male Nationality: French Aspect: Plants Digivice appearance: To digivolve he puts a coin in the slot and presses both buttons at once
Appearance
Height: 5'9 (176.5 cm) Weight: 162 pounds (73 kg) Build: Athletic Skin tone: Slightly tanned Facial structure: Danny has somewhat messy brown hair and lighter brown eyes. He also has a pointy chin with no facial hair Outstanding details: His totems are gold colored coins with the head of the respective Digimon Spirit printed on them, like the Power Coins from MMPR. The ones that have a dark alternative form are black on the opposite side with the "evil" digimon's face whereas Dracomon's and BloomLordmon's coins are fully silver on the back. Clothing preferences: Danny prefers simple comfortable clothes like a shirt, jeans and a coat. Body language: Danny is typically relaxed, with his hands in his pockets.
Biography
Family situation: Upper middle class with two working parents. It depends on the season how busy they are Education: Finished highschool General world skills: Swimming, tree climbing Special skills: Some knowledge of edible plants and mushrooms Personal history: Having grown up on his parents' campground Danny naturally is familiar with both it and the surrounding woods. Especially since he was often dragged along when his father organized hikes and pointed out interesting things like edible plants and mushrooms. It constantly surprised him how amazed people could be at what was to him common knowledge.
He also learned how to get along with people but since he only saw most of them for a short time he never got too close to anyone, focusing more on having fun than actually making lasting friendships.
Whenever he had nothing better he was either reading comics or carving up some piece of wood into a crudely made figurine. He would give some of those figurines away to camping children he really got along with or at least had hung out with multiple years. When he noticed that tourists from different countries used Euro coins that were different than he was used he began collecting them, curious to see how many differences there were.
Personality
Positive character traits: Adaptable, confident, patient, trustworthy Negative character traits: Disrespectful, uncommunicative, inhibited Likes and hobbies: Woodworking, coin collecting, white chocolate, comics/manga Dislikes and fears: Fire, thunder, the rain, snakes, frogs Digidestined's motivation: Danny is a nature lover and while the state of the Digital World might not directly affect him he doesn't want to see its natural wonders destroyed.
Champion:Bombamon Dark alternative suggestion:Woodmon Details: Moveset:
Trunk Smash: Swings its large, spiky arms, smashing anything in its way.
Conifer Cannon: Fires a large pinecone from the holes in its arms, which explode and send shrapnel flying on contact.
Cypress Slam (サイプレススラム): Hardens the leaves on its large tail and swings it towards the enemy. The tip of its tail also becomes sharp when hardened, and can pierce through objects.
Carmine Root:The claws on its forelegs extend like roots and pierce into the ground, surfacing where the opponent is and stabbing them, or constricting them in place. This attack has far reach (wherever the ground extends, even if it is solid rock, though not if it is metal), but Viidakkomon has to stay rooted to the spot.
Painajainen: The ‘eyes’ on its forelegs glow, causing an enemy that stares into them to fall into a deep nightmare.
Pinecone Boulder: Curls into a hard, spiky ball, and rolls towards the opponent at high speed. It is hard to change its direction once it starts, especially if it rolls downhill.
Mega digivolution method: Danny needs to get experience with spirit evolution to unlock this. Dark alternative suggestion:Hydramon
Details: Moveset:
Nithhögg Pike: Stabs the enemy with the sharp edges of its tail. Its tail is capable of extending or even burrowing through the ground and resurfacing, like roots, at high speed.
Askr Foliage: Leaves grow to cover its entire body, which then separates to form a copy of Askrdramon made of leaves. The copy then charges towards the enemy and, upon contact, explodes to bombard the enemy with countless razor-sharp leaves.
Pantheon Rupture: All of the roots, wood, and bark comprising its body transform into hardened roots that extend towards and impale the enemy simultaneously, absorbing their life energy. This does allow Askrdramon to heal itself but not to one to ratio, meaning it uses up more energy than it recovers.
Odin’s Arc : Fires an arc-shaped beam of pure life energy from the sail on its back, which when fully charged is intense enough to vaporize anything it hits. Askrdramon can control its intensity, and at lower intensities, this move can be used to heal allies. Askrdramon can only use this move while being being charged up with the energy from Pantheon Rupture and if it didn't use to recover itself.
Super Mega digivolution method: Danny need to figure out how and why the corrupted zones affect the fauna of the digital world and to have at least survived facing the cause once
I think I'm going to wait for either the digimon partner or wild digimon sheets to be up before I figure out what I'm doing.
Although I guess I should start shopping around for options unless I make poor life decisions and decide to just design one from scratch but we'll see how things turn out I guess.
Most likely going for either an angel, dinosaur/dragon or mecha at the very least.
Heh. I was just wondering the stance on multiple characters. Fine with me if everyone else is cool with it.
So, yeah, I saw the rule on custom digimon. I've got a concept for that in the works, I'll share it soon for a review. Also got a human character conceptualized.
That said, what do you lot think, one character each, or do any of you feel like taking on more?
I'm fine with having one main character each, but since you mentioned playing villains for an episode or a small arc in the interest check then maybe we could have the option to run a temporary second character for things like that? Like if someone wants to play an NPC alongside their main for a little while?
@King Cosmos Yeah, I was thinking single-episode "throwaway" characters would be a good way to experiment with that suits us, and if you like the character, you can make them permanent addition.
What I was hitting at though was that it'd be good if anyone who is OK playing multiple "mains" posted some concepts for the partner humans/digimon, so that there is a larger pool to create the pairs form. By my count we have:
You wanting to play a human Byte with "either or" and with a digimon idea over on discord Rin mentioned playing a digimon, though I didn't see whether partner or wild.
I plan to put up a human and partner digimon bids myself, though I figure I'll act as the 'fallback' in case any partner character is left unmatched.
PawnChessmon (Black) A digimon survivor from one of the two fallen chessmon empires. Whereas the white chessmon empire fell to a corruption zone, the black chessmon empire was destroyed by a different threat, although PawnChessmon pretends to have no memory of that, and publicly claims it was either the white chessmon or the corruption zone that destroyed her former home. She intends to play ignorant of the real perpetrator until such time she gains the strength to pay them back with the same coin. She wishes to gain the power to become the next chessmon queen, intending to restore their fallen empire. To do that though, she must save the digital world itself first.
Rin mentioned playing a digimon, though I didn't see whether partner or wild.
I'm honestly fine with either so I guess it depends on how things turn out.
I do have a (really really vague) concept for the wild one at least, which is they were originally an "evil" mega that got knocked down to rookie and is teaming up with the humans (referring to them as "minions" or something like that) to try and rebuild their lost power, probably gets inspired by the powers of friendship and love and whatnot and ends up being "redeemed" when they eventually regain their mega level.
Admittedly it could also work as a partner, albeit with a somewhat vitriolic, dare I say "tsundere" relationship with their tamer but again, we'll see how things turn out since I'm not 100% sure about this idea so far.
@Forsythe I have clarified how Pantheon Rupture works, added the final two Digivolution methods and changed Danny last name to a French one with the same meaning
