Scaling the stony walls of the castle was trivial to Eula, her steel fingers easily able to dig into the wall when she couldn’t find footing. Making her way along with the rest of the team to go over their plan within a gap in the wall, Eula would listen to Takeshi’s plan before formulating her own. Skarsneek’s idea was a well-suited one for controlling the flow of reinforcements to the gate front, but Eula felt that the hobgoblin would be best suited with support from someone else.

Then, a change was tangible in the air. As if there was a protective aura that was enshrouding those who were allied with the task force. Recognizing this as Alice’s ability, Eula would clench her fist before looking to Takeshi as he started to scale the mountain face.

"Takeshi will need some support. The Varjans will likely have extremely powerful guards inside the castle, so I will follow to back him up. Best of luck, everyone," Eula said before kicking off the wall to start pursuing Takeshi, hoping that whatever distraction was being concocted at the gate would be enough to let them slip into the castle.

Castle Kaneda Gate Fort

SHADOW OF THE YOKAI (ACT I FINALE)

~ @AzureKnight (ATS), @Enkryption (ALI & CRL), @The Irish Tree (LIL), @Rezod92 (KRY), @Restalaan (GRI) ~

The magic that summoned the mighty bull already alerted the men in the watchtowers. They immediately started screaming and ringing their bells, but it was far too late. The sudden tearing of wood and support was loud and clear to the garrison, rousing every warrior from their slumber. The patrol groups immediately converged to the entrance, gathering any Varjan who was ready with them.

"For Shizuyama!"
Liliana

The warrior fairy's cry was taken as the cue for the human part of the assault team to move forth. Precise arrows from Takamori hit the watchtower guards in their necks. A small group ready to fight attempted to engage Liliana, but a giant figure ran past her. It was not her summoned bovine but rather, the monk Nobutada. He crashed into the group and bear-hugged one Footman, crushing the Varjan's body with his immense strength. Axes and swords were swung at him, but they simply bounced back despite the monk being unarmored. Brandishing his kanabo, Nobutada sent a Varjan flying with each swing.

Some Varjan Brigands attempted to re-secure the battered gate, but Yurine was ready the opening. Despite being very old and wielding a heavy axe, Yurine was graceful and deft. She evaded attacks before countering with a stumbling or sweeping kick, an opener to make sure the swing of her axe found its mark. Varjans were cleaved as Yurine brought danced the art of death.

The garrison was completely caught by surprise and they were scrambling to organize. Varjans trickled out of the buildings piecemeal, and they would be walking into a grinder. But the task force would notice that these were mere Footmen and Brigands. Not exactly the troops one would deploy to defend an important castle. Something was off.

Castle Kaneda Inner Courtyard

SHADOW OF THE YOKAI (ACT I FINALE)

~ @AzureKnight (HIN), @Restalaan (SKA) ~

The stealth team infiltrated the lesser-populated inner courtyard with absolutely none of the garrison ever realizing. It was the dead of the night and most of the Varjans awake were drowsy, letting out yawn after yawn. Thus, the few patrollers were quickly eliminated by Kageho and Kazenosuke. Believing it would be best to eliminate as much Varjans as possible should they be discovered, Sorae entered a building and began slamming her naginata down on the sleeping garrison.

But then, alarm bells started ringing from the gate fort. They were loud enough to wake even the garrison in the inner courtyard. Thus, the Varjan garrison began hastily arming themselves and discovering the infiltrators, as well as the latter's bloody handiwork. Kageho, Kazenosuke and Sorae were forced to rendezvous out in the open to directly confront the remaining Varjans, numbering a dozen Brigands and Footmen.

The yokai part of the team can join the fight directly or hit the Varjans where they still don't expect. They had just woken up and their senses had not wholly come back to them. Surprising them again would not be difficult.

Gringor of the Ironhide Tribe

Gringor took front, following Nobutada closely as he outright shove past the bulls. Joining in the destruction as his axe slammed into Varjan brigands with one hand, the other hefting his newly ill-gained shield that he had stolen from the Iron Legion. Looking almost like one of their member if not for the mismatched armor that he acquired much earlier.

Slamming one away with the shield, Gringor looked around. Taking a deep sniff of the air to find the scent, but it was weird. There should be more, and there's none of those hardy bois.

"...Forward!" He swung his axe sideways and sent many of the brigands flying, shield in hand as he went deeper. Eyes on the main building, hopefully, he get his fun fight there. Otherwise, this would've been a dreadfully waste of time.

Skarsneek of the Red Hill

Skarsneek snuck past most of the sentries, keeping an eye out as he moved without any sound at all. Using his body strength to even climb and swung between gaps easily.

So far, it didn't looked like there was any nasty surprise or traps. Physical ones at least, magical was always a pain to handle. Keeping a track of the timing and looking to the sides occasionally to see the other Shizuyama group at their own pace.

That's when the alarm rang and Skarsneek immediately went to the ceiling. Clinging like a spider even as Varjan blearily strapped their armor and helmet to meet the intruder.

He then intentionally waited a few more minutes, seeing the surge of Varjans slowing to a trickle to meet the exposed group.

Finally, he dropped down, snapped his quarter-staff into two large sticks and hurled himself to the back of the Varjan group. Sweeping, kicking and slamming them where they least expect it as his small frame can outright send a man flying.
