Omega Man "I can do this all day..."

It was 1938 and the road to World War II was fast approaching. It was also a time of heroes. Alien supermen, star spangled patriots, gun wielding vigilantes, a man on fire, wonderful women from around the world, and heroes that could fly and run at speeds the mind could barely comprehend were all around. Societies of heroes who believed in justice as well as heroes already invading the enemy on their foreign lands were in all of the newspapers. The Golden Guardian was chief among them, often cited as the first superhuman known to the public. There was a threat to America however, that remained unseen. Undercover agents and superhumans working for the Third Reich were more numerous than anyone dared dream. And during the summer of 1938 they began targeting every military instillation on the eastern coast.

This prompted the United States government and President Roosevelt to formally ask for the help of costumed individuals to protect the coast and the soldiers in the armed forces. The aforementioned Golden Guardian lead the charge and soon dozens of superheroes were banding together to help defend their homeland. There were somewhere between twenty and thirty military instillations, naval air stations, and coastal fortifications along the Atlantic seaboard. Heroes that could move at super speed or teleport were extremely helpful in checking in with bases often throughout the weeks. Several of the more important instillations made temporary living arrangements for some of the heroes volunteering. Ammunition plants and depots were high on the list for potential targets as well as the coastal fortifications.

An ammunition plant was already attacked by Nazi superhumans called Blitzkrieg (a super speedster) and the Wall (super strong and durable, w/super jumps). There was also a small group of flying metal clad Nazi's called the Silverwings in decoded transmissions, supposedly targeting coastal military instillations and reinforced border facilities. As the Navy began its land expansion and construction on a submarine station and Naval Air station in Norfolk, Virginia, they were also victims of sabotage as several explosions and accidents have happened in the last three weeks halting construction in some areas. However the worst threats seemed to be born in the States, as a racist mobster has taken up a skull mask and began targeting minorities dubbing himself the Laughing Skull. The psycho's kill count is rumored to be well over one hundred, often leaving entire families and groups in his wake.

Nazi spies, superhumans, and a racist mobster in a skull mask is just the beginning. Who will answer the call? And can anyone truly save the Golden Age?!

World War II is one of those eras that's just on another level. The dogfights in the skies, heroism beyond words, and the ultimate badguys in both fiction and non-fiction IMHO... Nazis. The Golden Age of comics is also the beginning of some of the longest standing legacies like Superman, Capt. America, Wonder Woman, and countless others. This RP will take elements from both Marvel and DC and be somewhat of a knockoff universe in the same way that the Invincible Universe is mostly built around DC archetypes. However you don't have to be note for note like the character you take inspiration from. There's dozens of characters from this era including the vast rosters of the Invaders, the Justice Society, the Freedom Fighters, etc. You could even take inspiration from some of the Marvel Noir stuff like Spider Noir or the comics considered Pulp era like Tarzan, Zorro, Green Hornet, the Shadow, etc.

I also decided on the late 1930's period because technology takes away a lot of the charm that older stories possessed. Having a souped up car back in those days, a special type of ray gun, or even a rocketpack was a big enough deal LOL. The Golden Guardian is our Superman stand in but he's more like Immortal in the Invincible Universe without all the history and being immortal. I'm going back and forth on a twist in the beginning of the RP that I've used to set the stage in a few of my RPs, so if you're familiar with some of the older stuff like my JLU and DC games then you might know what kinda stuff will be in store. Since my last two interest checks didn't pan out I'm hoping superheroes beating up Nazis is enough of a premise to get a larger cast. If I can get 6-9 players for this I think we can make something awesome.

I'm also gonna go ahead and throw a CS template up cause I'm ready to rock and roll with this one. I've already got a work in progress with a rework of the Torch of Liberty (Capt. America analog in Hellboy) making him have green flame based powers (similar to classic GL).

Archetype(s) - Captain America-ish.

Name - Samuel “Sam” Bright

Alias - Golden Boy

Age - 24

Powers/Skills/Equipment -
Sam’s body was enhanced through an experimental super-soldier program, giving him strength, durability, stamina, reflexes, and recovery far beyond an ordinary man. He can lift vehicles, tear through reinforced doors, leap great distances, shield people from explosions, and keep fighting long after most men would have collapsed.

The same experiment also caused Sam’s body to produce a strange golden radiance. Government scientists call it photonic discharge. In simpler terms, Sam glows when he exerts himself. With practice, he has learned to control that light in a few limited ways. He can brighten his aura to act as a beacon in smoke or darkness, shine golden light from his hands like a flashlight, release sudden blinding flashes, and channel radiant force into his punches.

These effects are powerful, but simple and physical rather than mystical. He cannot create hard-light constructs, turn invisible, heal people, or fire endless energy beams.

Before becoming Golden Boy, Sam had experience with farm labor, horseback riding, basic mechanics, stage fighting, stunt work, boxing, and screen acting. Since becoming a hero, he has received additional training in rescue work, military coordination, public appearances, and hand-to-hand combat. When working with the military, he usually carries a compact field radio. Other than that, he mostly relies on himself.

Weaknesses -
Sam is powerful, but he is not invincible. Heavy artillery, sustained gunfire from high-caliber weapons, poison gas, electricity, explosives, and specially designed armor-piercing weapons can injure or overwhelm him. His radiant abilities are also tied to stamina and emotional control. If he overuses them, he can be left exhausted, disoriented, and temporarily light-sensitive.

His public image is another vulnerability. Golden Boy has been carefully sold to the American public as the perfect symbol of American masculinity. Reporters, military officials, studio executives, and government handlers all have an interest in keeping that image intact. Sam is also a gay man in 1938, which makes exposure dangerous. If the wrong person learned the truth, it could be used for blackmail, scandal, or worse.

Personality - Charming, earnest, ambitious, guarded, compassionate.

Experience -
Sam has been active as Golden Boy for a little over a year. His rise was meteoric, and very carefully managed. He is not one of the oldest heroes on the scene, nor is he as powerful or established as the Golden Guardian, but he has quickly become one of the most recognizable faces in the country.

Appearance -
Sam is tall, broad-shouldered, and classically handsome, with the kind of face that photographs almost annoyingly well. He has golden blond hair, bright blue eyes, a strong build, and a warm smile that can look completely sincere even when he is using it to hide discomfort. He is equal parts farm boy, movie star, and recruitment poster.

As Golden Boy, Sam wears a fitted deep blue uniform with gold accents, reinforced gloves, tall boots, a golden sunburst emblem across his chest, and a belt with a matching sunburst emblem as a buckle. A short gold cape gives the costume a dramatic, old-fashioned heroic silhouette without getting in the way during combat. When he uses his powers, a faint golden glow shines under his skin and around his body, growing brighter with effort.

BRIEF Bio -
Samuel Bright was born and raised on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work, quiet endurance, and keeping certain things to himself. He was strong, handsome, and restless from a young age. He was drawn less to the life expected of him and more to the fantasy of the silver screen. Sam wanted to be an actor. He wanted lights, cameras, applause, and the chance to become someone larger than life.

So he left home for Hollywood.

At first, Hollywood gave him very little. Sam worked as an extra, stunt double, background character, and sometimes just a pretty face in a crowd. He had the look people wanted, but not the connections to make much of it. Still, he kept trying. He learned how to smile on cue, how to stand where the light hit best, and how to look charming even when he wasn’t feeling it.

Somewhere along the way, he got noticed by people who were not casting for a film.

Sam was approached for what he was told would be a patriotic opportunity: a government-backed physical excellence program with ties to the studios and national defense. The details were vague, and the promises were tempting. It was supposed to be a chance to serve his country, impress important men, and maybe finally get his break.

Instead, Sam was “volunteered” into an experimental super-soldier program.

The process nearly killed him. It involved injections, radiation, electrical stimulation, physical trials, and enough secrecy that Sam still does not know the full truth of what was done to him. When he survived, he emerged stronger, tougher, faster, and changed. Under strain, his body shone with golden light.

The government saw a weapon. Hollywood saw a star. Together, they created Golden Boy.

Now Sam Bright is one of America’s brightest young heroes, a symbol of wholesome courage and patriotic strength. He appears in newsreels, newspapers, posters, patriotic shorts, staged photographs, public-service reels, and serial adventures built around Golden Boy. He technically still works in film, though not in the way he once hoped. He basically plays Golden Boy all the time. He still wants to be taken seriously as an actor, but the studios would much rather sell him as a living symbol. Mothers adore him. Soldiers cheer for him. Reporters ask when he plans to settle down with a nice girl. The public sees exactly what it has been taught to see: the perfect American hero.

Sam knows better.

He does believe in helping people. He does believe in fighting fascists, protecting the vulnerable, and standing against cruelty. But he also knows Golden Boy is a performance. He was turned into a symbol of ideal manhood, and many of the people cheering his name would reject the man under the gold and blue if they knew the truth.

With Nazi spies and superhumans targeting the Atlantic coast, Sam has answered the call. But as the war draws closer, he has to decide whether he is fighting for America as it is, or America as it ought to be.

Potential Storylines -

* The Poster Boy Problem: Sam struggles with being used as propaganda by the same government and Hollywood machine that created Golden Boy. Studio executives and government handlers keep trying to shape his image through interviews, photo opportunities, publicity appearances, and possible fake romances.
* In the Guardian’s Shadow: Golden Guardian is the established legend. Sam is the newer, younger, more marketable hero constantly compared to him. Sam admires him, but resents being measured against an impossible standard.
* Blackmail Material: Someone uncovers evidence of Sam’s sexuality or his past in Hollywood and tries to use it against him.
* The Laughing Skull: Sam is forced to confront violence and hatred within America itself, especially when the Skull targets minorities and vulnerable communities that authorities have failed to protect.
* A Love Worth Hiding: Sam develops, or already has, feelings for another man. Drama ensues.

Additional Notes -
Sam is closeted publicly, but he knows he is gay, and he is not ashamed of it. But he stays closeted because he knows exactly how people would react if the truth came out.

@Cyrania I still love this idea, the only thing I'd wanna change is the superhero alias. Elastic Man would be the most obvious I think. Two characters with super secretive personal lives gives the game some depth.

Super thankful for the wide range of characters and concepts already being used for this! Just need a few more wildcards in the mix!!

Archetype(s) - Wonder Woman, Thor, Captain America, The Spirit of ’76

Name - Thomas Hale

Alias - The Sentinel

Age - 39

Powers/Skills/Equipment -

• The Spear of the Sentinel - An ancient spear bound to a mysterious spirit of liberty and resistance. Thomas can command the weapon through sheer force of will, causing it to fly, strike, return to his hand, or hover nearby. The spear is capable of piercing armor, vehicles, and many superhuman defenses.

• Spear Flight - The Sentinel does not fly naturally. Instead, the spear carries him through the air at tremendous speeds, allowing him to pursue aircraft, cross great distances, and engage enemies in aerial combat.

• Enhanced Strength - Strong enough to lift automobiles, tear open steel doors, bend iron bars, and battle superhuman opponents.

• Enhanced Durability - Bullets can wound him but rarely stop him. He can survive falls, explosions, and impacts that would kill an ordinary man.

• Enhanced Vitality - Tires slowly, recovers quickly, and possesses remarkable resistance to illness and injury.

• Veteran Soldier - Experienced in leadership, battlefield tactics, marksmanship, and hand-to-hand combat from service during the Great War.

Weaknesses -

• Separation from the Spear - Without the spear, Thomas loses his flight and much of his combat effectiveness.

• Not Invincible - Heavy artillery, sustained machine-gun fire, explosives, and powerful superhumans can injure or kill him.

• Bound by Ideals - The spirit chose him because of his character. Acts of cruelty, cowardice, or betrayal weaken his connection to the spear.

• Self-Sacrificing - Thomas has a habit of placing himself in danger to protect others.

Personality -

Steadfast. Courageous. Humble. Compassionate. Resolute.

Experience -

The Sentinel has operated for nearly two years, first appearing in late 1936.

Appearance -

Thomas Hale stands over six feet tall with a broad-shouldered soldier’s build. His dark hair has begun to grey at the temples, a reminder of both age and hardship. A scar runs across one cheek from his service during the Great War.

His costume resembles a ceremonial military uniform rather than a traditional superhero outfit. A dark blue tunic trimmed in silver, white gloves, tall boots, and a crimson-lined cape accompany an eagle insignia upon his chest. His ancient spear is rarely far from his hand.

BRIEF Bio -

Thomas Hale believed he had already fought his war.

A veteran of the Great War, he returned home carrying scars both visible and invisible. He built a quiet life for himself and hoped the world had learned the cost of hatred and tyranny.

The world had not.

In 1936, while traveling through the Appalachian Mountains, Thomas discovered an ancient relic hidden within the ruins of a forgotten settlement. The artifact was a spear unlike any weapon known to history.

When Thomas touched it, something awakened.

The spirit within the spear had watched humanity for centuries, choosing champions during history’s darkest hours. Revolutionaries, liberators, and defenders had carried the weapon before him.

Now it had chosen Thomas.

Granted extraordinary power and burdened with immense responsibility, he became The Sentinel.

As threats gather across the Atlantic and dark forces stir both abroad and at home, The Sentinel has once again answered the call to stand against tyranny.

Potential Storylines -

• Legacy of the Spear - Discovering the identities and histories of previous Sentinels throughout the centuries.

• The Gathering Storm - Realizing another world war is approaching and struggling with the fear that humanity has learned nothing from the last.

• The Laughing Skull - Confronting hatred and evil within America itself.

• The Worthy Successor - Questioning why the spirit chose him and whether he truly deserves its power.

• The Silverwing War - Becoming the natural enemy of Nazi aerial forces and superhuman pilots.

• The First Heroes - Helping establish one of the world’s first organized superhero teams.

Additional Notes -

Thomas does not consider himself a celebrity, a symbol, or even a superhero. He views himself as a soldier entrusted with a sacred duty.

The public sees a flying champion carrying a legendary spear through the skies.

Thomas sees only another war that must be stopped.

I could actually see the fate of Alistair's parents be in some way related to Tommy's parents and/or how he was born with the ability to talk to animals. They were quite close (well, the full breadth of Pakistan apart but in terms of the world map, that's quite close)

That sounds fantastic! They'd have been explorers anyway so distance is no problem. Reading through all of the other apps so far I think Alistair could have some really cool plotlines with everyone.

That's my application completely finished also. I changed his surname as it felt a bit too close to Sentinels surname and refined his equipment a little bit.
