"THANK YOU FRIEDA I am aware-ahem-" The woman in the video adjusted her hair only slightly. The disheveled lab coat was a bit too big for her and hanging off her shoulder slightly revealing that she was probably not wearing much more underneath and she didn't seem to care a bit for her public image. "We'll get this over with. Hi. I'm Camphor. I'm the leading Scientist in the Eidda region on documenting various Pokémon habitats and-" Bzzt- the rather upbeat music in the background was abruptly cut off. "Goddamn it I don't care about any of that if you're getting this you already know all that."
"P-professor stick to the script we can't have another baguette incident!"
"Screw the script! Toss it in the shredder and make script pasta out of it for all I care! Better yet, blend it into a coffee so I can actually read it!" The woman walked over to the camera, grabbing it and pulling it up close to her face. "Look, you already know the deal if I'm sending you this. You. Byjerlfal. Next week! You work for me, now get your asses over here and I'll pay you and give you your trainer license and give you a Pokémon to start you off with. Deal? Deal. If you're not here I'm sending Frieda to give you an invoice for WASTING MY TIME and that is VERY expensive!"

Hey hey! Welcome to Pokémon Dreams (Reboot)! Creative title, I know, but I wasn't the one who came up with it. So, this is a roleplay I've rebooted with the assistance and blessings of @Rune_Alchemist because I thought it would be fun to give this another shot. Speaking of fun, fun fact, instead of reboot I wanted to call it Pokémon Dreams: Recur because of recurring dreams, but someone thought I was being overly indulgent... RUNE.
Savo wanted me to be silly here, but im executing my freedom of speech with two words: I refuse.

Don't sass me I'm lazy, I'm just gonna copy paste things from the old thread.
Players are hired by the rather irate professor Camphor in the video message above to help document and catalogue the Pokemon present in the Eidda region. In recent years the region has seen a large influx of Pokémon that were once considered not native and she's looking to both figure out why and where all these new Pokémon are coming from. She'll pay you. Lots of money. Not that you actually have to do too much with her. She'll be happy if you just catch and catalogue Pokémon and never talk to her again.
That's the general starting premise, at least.
Rules
1 Follow standard RP etiquette, ala no godmodding, autohit, bunnying, etc. Only time we'd probably let some of these slide is with proper permission or proper discussion.
2 Act civilized towards one another. We're all trying to have fun and create a story together, not get into some OoC drama. If something happens, please take it to DMs and try not to drag other people into it. If there's a disagreement about something IC that the players cannot resolve, Rune and I will intervene and make our final ruling between the involved parties.
3 Leave IC drama as IC drama. I know Rule 2 talked about being civilized, but what I'm saying here is don't let IC drama leak into OoC and become drama there. Leave that for our characters to handle.
4 While not the focus of the RP, Romance can happen and is something I am a-OK with... so long as it remains PG-13. Make sure to leave all the more mature stuff elsewhere, alright?
5 Try to post regularly. I know we have lives and sometimes things come up, but at a bare minimum at least post once a week. If you can't, I'll explain more in Rule 6.
6 If you're going to be absent for a significant period of time, please let the GMs know, whether in OoC, DMs, or in the availability chat in Discord. Life happens, we get it. It also helps us know whether we can wait for your return or proceed without you. If we haven't heard from you for a while, we will act as if you dropped and move on with the roleplay.
7 If you're unsure about something, ask a GM or post a question in the Professors QA channel on Discord. It could not only elucidate you but also give other players a place to look if they have a similar question!

Eidda's Regional Map
The Eidda region. An expansive region consisting of a warm climate in the south full of forests both tropical and deciduous that is home to all sorts of Pokémon that love the warmer temperatures. In the far north, a mountain range that in winter time is almost impossible to traverse without the aid of Pokémon and is home to just as inhospitable Pokémon. Sandwiched between the two extremes are the rolling plains of the Central region offering a temperate, idyllic environment to live in as long as one avoids the Crackling Valley storm plains.
Below, Rune and I will be adding hiders and information about the region. We'll give a brief overview of almost every major town and location marked on the map for creation purposes, but feel free to ask for more information if you require it. For example, you need to know something minor about a location because it's related to your character in some shape or form. Regardless of what it is, we are open to ideas!
But for now, we're going to keep most things vague; after all, what fun is a good adventure if you knew everything from the start?
A sprawling metropolis and the largest city in Eidda. Located on the southern coast, its a sprawling city and home to everything someone could think of and where most of the large social and battling events take place. The main port for people looking to enter Eidda for tourist or immigration activities. The city itself is divided into the Commerce District, Industrial District, the Resort District, and Residential district and is set up in almost a circular fashion.
Notable attractions include a Gym located in the Resort district as well as the resort itself where trainers and others alike gather.

The warmest city in Eidda, located on the southern peninsula west of Byjerlfal. Its both a popular vacation destination due to its pleasant weather, sandy beaches, and a trade port. Located here is one of Eidda's two trainer schools. Its however, otherwise a rather sleepy and idyllic town where much of nature remains untouched. Many come through here on their way to Snowhelm.

A sleepy town located on the other side of Route 1 and the Winding wood. A secluded and rural town where nature and humans live together fairly closely. A small shrine is located here, attended to by a family of maidens and protectors but otherwise the city has nothing of note that would attract many people - but one can get a good nights sleep and rest after the forest at the rather large hotel that has been built here recently.

A lakeside town that was once a booming and wealthy place in the past, but after the Hydroelectric damn further upstream was abandoned the towns fortunes has slowly dwindled. Most trainers end up not lingering here as the people tend to not be too terribly friendly. Still, Peltra does have one location that people are still drawn too - specialized training facilities for Pokémon to help encourage growth.

The oldest city in Eidda and supposedly was once the location of a castle of some old king. Located near the base of the northern mountains, the city gives off something of an old, gloomy feeling. The constant dark skies and it raining more often than not doesn't help such a feeling. The Eidda historical society is located here and many history loving types seem to treat it as a center for such things.

Located on an island on the east of Eidda, Snowhelm is a city built upon the steep hilly snowdrifts and into the rocky terrain of the island. A veritable winter wonderland where people dress warmly. A ski and Pokémon resort is located not too terribly far away. Used to be a mining town, until the mine dried up.

A small village where a handful of people live. Mostly its just a port for those looking to get to Snowhelm to pass through. A number of shops, restaurants and similar things have been built up around here.

In the past, this was merely an outpost where a lighthouse was kept to watch over the seas for traveling ships. Over the years though, a town was built up around it, built into the cliffs. Cozy but constantly windy and cold, the city is difficult to get to but many consider it a sight to behold on their visit to Eidda.

A city located on the edge of the Crackling Valley storm plains. The skies here are the last chance of blue one would see before heading north, as even Route 8 remains constantly shrouded by clouds from the Thunderpeaks. Warm in temperature the only notable feature one would see initially are old standing stones that no longer have meaning to those living there today.

A city split by the swampland it was built on. The northern part of the city is home to the main part of the city, a humid but lively and friendly city where the people love their music. South Mireth is more rural - and is where a number of pokemon labs are located.

A city located on a rocky island on the southern coast of Eidda. A large steel mill and manufacturing plant is located here - and is notably where a number of the ships in Eidda are constructed. A lively city that is always awake with the sound of construction equipment during the hot days and comparatively cool nights. Regular fighting tournaments are held here.

One of the two cities supposedly founded by immigrants from Johto ages ago. Built by their descendants its a rather closed off city, only accessible by taking the Tohjo road and following it through the underground passage that leads there. The people there are known to be a bit...difficult with outsiders. A large tower is located here, reaching into the heavens.

The second city built by Immigrants from the Kanto and Johto regions. Much like Tohjo, its located on an island only accessible by the aid of pokemon or a ship. They're a bit friendlier than their cousins in Tohjo, but still maintain something of an aloofness with people not from their city.

A city located deep within Eldergleam forest. The key feature of the city is a large tree that acts almost as a natural roof over much of the city. A quiet place where many fairy types live. If one manages to make their way through the forest they'll be greeted with open arms from the residents.

A wealthy city where many of Eidda's elite and wealthy live. The second academy in Eidda is located here, and often those in Rossaden consider themselves to be quite artfully inclined. People here really don't like tourists. Still, this is the only port with a regular access and ship to the Nature reserve so some tourism is expected.

A garden city located in the plains and foothills of the mountains to the north. A massive place that prides itself on its verdant meadows, plant-life, and abundance of well, everything. The main contest competitions are here, and is usually where the finals are held.

An old mining town located high up in the mountains. The mine is still operational and where many materials for Eidda are still mined and shipped from.

A city located inside of a cavern. Glaciers from the mountains feed into a large river that flows into a large, hollowed out cave. People decided to make this place their home in ages past, and it has remained as such. The water that flows here is clear and pure, and many say the glacier water has healing properties.

An odd city located in north of the region. Known as a floating city, its stuck between two outcroppings of land that were eventually connected by a series of bridges and boats. Primarily a fishing settlement, but also where main shipments to the Caldera outpost are located.

The city of Champions. The place where the Elite Four is located and the tournaments are held. A lively city where a number of Elite Trainers gather to live, battle, and constantly train themselves to seek heights of battle prowess.

About a decade ago, an unknown phenomena was making Pokémon more aggressive/more violent in the region of Johto and Kanto as a whole. During this time the number of trainers would steadily dwindle due to incidents where even trainers Pokémon would become extremely volatile and aggressive, even those that had no such behavior before.
About three years ago it would come to light that this was the result of an organization referred to and that called themselves simply as Nemesis whose sole mission was to drive a wedge between humans and Pokémon, using them as little more than beasts of burden and creatures that were far to violent for most of humanity to interact with - aside from them of course. They achieved this by repurposing, expanding, and modifying old tech that team rocket used in Johto in the past.
Eventually their plans would fall to pieces thanks to the concerted effort of a small group of trainers, the International Police, Elite Four, and the regional Champion.
Two of the trainers that aided in stopping this plot would eventually go on to challenge the league, one, a young trainer by the name of Ashton managed to win. The other one a runner up would find themselves becoming a rookie agent within the International Police and quickly rising through their ranks before vanishing about a year ago.

Miscellaneous Information
Read or I'll have Giratina drag you to the shadow realm distortion world.
You'll be playing your trainer, as well as all of your Pokémon. As for everything else, we the GMs control. NPCs, Pokémon you don't own, outcomes involving the former two, and the world, etc. We'll do our best to be fair, buuuuut rng will also play a role from time to time.
Furthermore, stats act more as loose guidelines as opposed to being hard-set rules. Stats simply determine what a Pokémon excels at. One example is that a Pokémon with higher attack than another simply means that Pokémon is a bit better at doing physical damage. Basically, don't worry about being a metaslave. After all, truly skilled trainers should try to win with Pokémon they love best.
Speaking of stats, while IVs and EVs won't be accounted for, there might be special types of training available in the region that could give a similar, slight advantage to stats should they be trained...
Anyways, Legendary Pokémon. We are going to be frank here: unless you have an exceedingly good strategy, don't expect to one-shot them or take them down with a single Pokémon. They're a Legendary Pokémon, so they're going to be treated as such.
Now, the biggest question: what happens if I get into a PvP match against another player. To put it simply, you can either resolve it between each other and we'll reward the amount of appropriate exp and stuff once completed, or you can get the GMs involved. If we end up being involved, we'll probably ask to either get on a collab so we can respond more easily or we could set something up in the battle-corner on the discord server. There you can tell us your actions, what you both plan, and we both can arbitrate there in real time if needed to determine the outcome.

| At the time of remaking this Roleplay we will be using the Scarlet/Violet movesets and general Pokémon abilities. This will not change even if new Pokémon games come out. There might be certain exceptions, but that is very much dependent on what is asked. Pokémon will be assumed to have access to all moves of their level, that is to say a level 20 Pikachu will know and have access to all of its moves up until level 20. This can be complemented by a Move Tutor or TM, which can teach a Pokémon up to two moves they wouldn't normally know. You don't need HMs to do things like Surf or Rock Climb as they effectively don't exist here. Abilities will be taken into account as much as possible, but some creativity might need to be applied when changing mediums. As for evolutions, there will be a handful of changes, but we won't reveal more beyond this: Pokémon that evolved by trading instead will be receiving a new method to evolve. Evolutions requiring an item will still require those said items. |  |

| Lets be real: We don't want to fight Youngster Joeys' Rattata every time we pass through Route 1 (despite his Rattata being in the top percentage of Rattata). Generally speaking, we will give you the option of speeding up fights and typically skipping them mostly completely if its either an assured win or likely to win. We'll lay out the trainers Pokémon, and tell you what general strategy they will use and you will post your counter and strategy in kind. Unless something happens during these fights, these will likely resolve themselves in a single round; ditto for quickly catching Pokémon. |  |
| The Gym circuit in Eidda is fairly traditional. You battle through eight gyms, and defeat the gym leaders to acquire all eight badges. A trainer must collect all to be eligible to take part in the Championship Tournament. A Gym Leader can refuse a challenger for whatever reason, but a reason must be given even no matter how flimsy. However, they are also required to give a trainer a way to prove themselves ready to challenge and if complete they are required to accept the challenge. This can be from beating Gym trainers or to some other League approved method. The League is something like its Galarian counterpart, a spectacle and a tournament that people come to eagerly watch and spectate. A tournament where trainers must complete in several rounds of tournaments that take place over several days. |  |
| For those less interested in the League can take on a different type of challenge, one with a little more... je ne sais quoi. I'm talking about Contests. This is a challenge in which both you and your Pokémon will need to dress to impress for. Afterwards, you will compete against others to put on the best performance you can to show of your Pokémon's strengths, making the opponents performance ineffective, etc. Just know that you cannot deal damage to another performer's Pokémon; this isn't a Pokémon Battle or Gym match after all! Contests are composed of five categories: Beauty, Brawn, Cleverness, Coolness, and Cute. Once you enter into a Contest, prepare yourself and your Pokémon for the stage. Following this is an introductory segment where contestants make an impression on the judges and audience. After this, the main Contest begins. Contests consist of two sets of battles for four rounds of mock-battles where each contestant competes in a single contest category, with the goal of gaining ‘points’ from the judges and continuing until each trainer has fought all the other contestants. The final round is a double battle designed to test your teamwork. You will be paired up with another trainer from a different contest category and will have to work together to put on a performance that accentuates both your strengths. Points are gained for sticking to the category of the battle. Points can only be lost for directly using a damaging move against an opponent. ‘Winning’ the Contest is achieved by achieving the highest average of points over all categories. Smaller trophies and victories are given to those who excel in single attributes. While judges scoring counts for most, the audience can also vote for their favorites to influence the outcome of the results. Furthermore, the stage for each 'battle' can also change, causing different props and elements to appear. These can be used to give a trainer and their Pokémon an advantage in the contest.  | Here are some examples of how a Contest could be set up: |
| Mexatus Corporation: A company that took over the old Silph Co. in Johto. This company produces various goods for trainers, ranging from pokéballs, potions, escape ropes, and so on. The CEO, David Mexatus, is known to be quite the affable businessman. While he does have an eye for profit, he regards those who would exploit Pokémon and their natural habitat with high disdain. Recently, he has gone on to open a reserve for Pokémon in Eidda for those that were displaced or brought here illegally. This includes many regional Pokémon that cannot be found in Eidda, such as Galarian and Paldean variants. | EnerCore: A power company that is researching for a way to provide sustainable and renewable energy to help power Eidda for generations to come. Their CEO isn't well known as they seldom show their face. Beyond this, they also seem to be looking into a peculiar phenomena that has been reported happening occasionally with some increasing frequency across Eidda. There have been people falling asleep, unable to wake. No doctor or anyone has been able to pinpoint the exact cause, chalking it up to a number of mundane factors. Most don't consider it threatening as most do wake after a few days, though none seem to recall anything during the time. As one might expect. |

If you'd like to be from an outside region, make sure you talk things out with Rune or I since we might need to give you some background information that could affect your character a little bit.

Appearance:
Risette gives off a decidedly cool, confident, and collected demeanor. Standing at 5'10, she's a bit taller then most women, a pale complexion, dark blue eyes, and dressed in 'Cool and elegant' as she puts it clothing often consisting of a black leather jacket, shorts perhaps a bit too short, crop top, gloves, and knee length stockings and a durable pair of boots. Ah, of course, and cant forget her sunglasses that yes, she wears indoors. Wears an expensive perfume that smells faintly of vanilla.
Personality:
A cool, determined beauty that has more confidence in her pinky then others have in their body. If Risette wants to do something, she'll do it. If she doesn't know how, she'll figure it out. If people tell her she cant do something, she'll prove them wrong and do it as stylishly as possible. And to those things and people she thinks are 'hers' be they friend or otherwise, she'll do anything for. To say she can be rather troublesome from this is a bit of an understatement. Unreasonable to an extreme degree if she doesn't get her way, and doesn't like taking no for any kind of an answer - she will get what she wants even if she has to take a less direct route to getting it.
That isn't to say shes unpleasant, though, or malicious. She can not stand those who harm the weak or bully others needlessly. She might criticize or end up saying something someone doesn't want to hear, but she's not the type to linger on grudges or words. One could say she's just extremely socially inept and insensitive when it comes to more delicate topics - and may also assume that someone who she had just berated or beat to a bloody pulp to get something she wanted earlier will a hundred percent have the same mindset.
Backstory:
Born and raised in Eidda, specifically Giervor. The rainy, slightly gloomy town that constantly has something going on. If Byjerlfal is Eidda's shiny jewel, Giervor was its dark underbelly. Being the daughter of the Gym leader meant being born with certain expectations. To be strong, sturdy, and to be clever and of course, being able to stand out in a crowd.
This turned Risette into a rather troublesome kid. Picking fights because she wanted to win. Being wealthy enough and having extremely casual parenting to allow her to buy or do whatever she wanted with said money? She caused quite a few problems growing up - getting expelled from both major trainer shcools in Giervor for 'gross misconduct' (Why fight with a pokemon when my fists do the job just fine?), getting in trouble for spending too much money.
Not that her father particularly cared too much. He doted on her way too much and absolutely did not care. Between Gym Leader duties and work at the Archaeological society, he was happy to let her do as she whimed.
And sometime, she found a kid being bullied. Well, Giervor was hers, wasn't it? At least, thats how she was, no? And the only one allowed to beat up or bully someone was her. So she sent those bad guys packing with her fists, and thus, Risette would meet Scarlett - her soon to be best friend.
The rest of her life is fairly mundane. She worked with her dad at the Archaelogical society, spent some time helping out around the gym. Some rumors say she has connections to some less than reputable organizations in the city, but its Giervor. The city basically is where all the bad guys like to gather, and everyone knows someone likely up to no good in the end.
Eventually though, she would want her own chance at traveling across Eidda. Of course, she had money and could easily just do it herself without going through the hassle of meeting Camphor, but Camphor and her dad were old friends, so why not put good old fashioned Nepotism to use? Scarlett decided to tag along because she didn't wanna be left out.

-Extremely into Eidda's history, especially relating to the Three Titans and Giervors underground.

Risette gives off a decidedly cool, confident, and collected demeanor. Standing at 5'10, she's a bit taller then most women, a pale complexion, dark blue eyes, and dressed in 'Cool and elegant' as she puts it clothing often consisting of a black leather jacket, shorts perhaps a bit too short, crop top, gloves, and knee length stockings and a durable pair of boots. Ah, of course, and cant forget her sunglasses that yes, she wears indoors. Wears an expensive perfume that smells faintly of vanilla.
Personality:
A cool, determined beauty that has more confidence in her pinky then others have in their body. If Risette wants to do something, she'll do it. If she doesn't know how, she'll figure it out. If people tell her she cant do something, she'll prove them wrong and do it as stylishly as possible. And to those things and people she thinks are 'hers' be they friend or otherwise, she'll do anything for. To say she can be rather troublesome from this is a bit of an understatement. Unreasonable to an extreme degree if she doesn't get her way, and doesn't like taking no for any kind of an answer - she will get what she wants even if she has to take a less direct route to getting it.
That isn't to say shes unpleasant, though, or malicious. She can not stand those who harm the weak or bully others needlessly. She might criticize or end up saying something someone doesn't want to hear, but she's not the type to linger on grudges or words. One could say she's just extremely socially inept and insensitive when it comes to more delicate topics - and may also assume that someone who she had just berated or beat to a bloody pulp to get something she wanted earlier will a hundred percent have the same mindset.
Backstory:
Born and raised in Eidda, specifically Giervor. The rainy, slightly gloomy town that constantly has something going on. If Byjerlfal is Eidda's shiny jewel, Giervor was its dark underbelly. Being the daughter of the Gym leader meant being born with certain expectations. To be strong, sturdy, and to be clever and of course, being able to stand out in a crowd.
This turned Risette into a rather troublesome kid. Picking fights because she wanted to win. Being wealthy enough and having extremely casual parenting to allow her to buy or do whatever she wanted with said money? She caused quite a few problems growing up - getting expelled from both major trainer shcools in Giervor for 'gross misconduct' (Why fight with a pokemon when my fists do the job just fine?), getting in trouble for spending too much money.
Not that her father particularly cared too much. He doted on her way too much and absolutely did not care. Between Gym Leader duties and work at the Archaeological society, he was happy to let her do as she whimed.
And sometime, she found a kid being bullied. Well, Giervor was hers, wasn't it? At least, thats how she was, no? And the only one allowed to beat up or bully someone was her. So she sent those bad guys packing with her fists, and thus, Risette would meet Scarlett - her soon to be best friend.
The rest of her life is fairly mundane. She worked with her dad at the Archaelogical society, spent some time helping out around the gym. Some rumors say she has connections to some less than reputable organizations in the city, but its Giervor. The city basically is where all the bad guys like to gather, and everyone knows someone likely up to no good in the end.
Eventually though, she would want her own chance at traveling across Eidda. Of course, she had money and could easily just do it herself without going through the hassle of meeting Camphor, but Camphor and her dad were old friends, so why not put good old fashioned Nepotism to use? Scarlett decided to tag along because she didn't wanna be left out.

Here is my character. Lemme know if there is anything I need to adjust. I do now realize (as it is 5:00 AM by the time I am done with this), that there is alot to read on this sheet lol.

Appearance (Link to Other Pictures): Ryuu is a bit on the taller side, standing around 6'1". He is also on the fairly lankier side as well, weighing around 160 when wet. He appears athletic, but doesn't actually have much musculature to his frame. If anything, he might be almost borderline under weight for a young man of his age and height.
Several years of indoor living have made his skin a bit paler than most. He also doesn't sleep much. This is made evident by the circles one can see around his eye whenever it just so happens to be visible. His long, unkempt blonde hair is long enough to cover even his eye. He has long since stopped combing it and a mass of tangles and split ends shows that he doesn't maintain it well either with the exception of washing it.
Said blonde hair covers two things on his face. The first is a dull, listless, blue eye. The other is a white eyepatch he wears that covers where an eye should be. The eyepatch's plain, white, circular design make it look more like an eyepatch made for medical purposes. It definitely is not the kind of eyepatch one would wear if they fancied dressing as a pirate.
Ryuuichi's outfits focus on what is practical and comfortable. He doesn't really care much for color coordination or style. Hence his go to is often shirts and jeans with the occasional jacket. Thankfully his parents bought him enough of a similar outfit to ensure that he would never be too much of a walking fashion disaster. The colors his clothes possess are usually plain colors like beige, white, navy, or brown. Nothing too elaborate or extravagant.
There is one singular part of his ensemble that is always consistent though: a necklace. Looped onto this necklace are what appear to be three small scales from the "Scaly Pokemon". If he ever moves quickly or roughly enough, sometimes these scales will click and clang softly together on the necklace. Regardless of whatever he happens to wear on a particular day, for the past 4 years he has never once failed to go without this accessory.
Personality: Fiery, confident, and curious. These three words were once often used to describe Ryuuichi four years ago. Ryuuichi loved to explore and he never backed down from any challenge. He had the utmost faith in himself as well to the point where it often bordered on arrogance as a matter of fact. He wanted to do everything and try everything. Whenever he picked something up, he also believed he was destined to be the best at it.
When he finally found something he was truly interested in seeing through to the end though? His passion and drive were like a blazing inferno. His parents name for him, meaning dragon, was not misplaced. This includes the hobby he eventually picked up or helping others. Ryuuichi may have been loud and obnoxious, but that didn't mean he was rude. He was always more than happy to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it.
Ryuuichi loved to tackle problems head on. He wasn't stupid by any means, he just never really used his intelligence to its fullest. His idea of problem solving was just try first then ask questions later. If he didn't succeed the first time, it would take him several times trying the same solution before finally trying something else. Ryuuichi, first and foremost, was a man truly driven by his emotions, passions, and ambitions.
Nowadays? That bright fire is mostly snuffed out. Ryuuichi's once bright, fiery expressions are now dull like his singular blue eye. He has become apathetic and despondent. Sometimes it can take him a few moments to actually register that someone is saying something to him. There are times when this is intentional, but also times where he just genuinely doesn't notice. He is also far more softspoken than he used to be.
He takes things slowly now, far moreso than before. Rather than let his emotions and passions guide him, he tries to actually use his brain. He tries to parse things out logically, wanting to do his best to plan things out to their fullest before even daring to give them a try.
Ryuuichi nowadays is deathly afraid of two things after all: Failure and his own "recklessness".
Dreams: Ryuuichi loved to try many things and go through many things. This lasted until he one day found what he finally believed to be his true calling: Art. Specifically though animation! He loved to draw and his favorite thing to draw was, much to his parent's chagrin, explosive scenes of battles between Pokemon. The bigger, louder, and more impactful the battle the better.
Through his drawing, he wanted to bring these scenes he put on his pages to life on the big screen. So his goal was to become the greatest comic artist who would eventually get their work animated. He realized this dream at the age of 11 and became quite skilled at drawing in just three years. He had also begun to learn how to animate as well on a tablet purchased for him by his parents.
Now he just wants to make it to the next day.

--Ryuu once wanted to be a Pokemon trainer. He painted a baseball like a Pokeball and attempted to catch a rattata with it. It did not go well.
--Whenever Ryuu focuses, he can "sense" other living beings or life as "lights". He isn't really sure what this is and thinks he is going crazy. Sometimes these "lights" fluctuate, dim, or brighten in some circumstances. He can kinda tell when its good or bad.

"Be careful. Vast Poni Canyon is dangerous this time of year!"
Those were the last words Kashima Ryuuichi, often called "Ryuu" by close friends, saw his mother say to him. He had been to Vast Poni Canyon many times before, so he just gave her a thumbs up as he ran towards the harbor.
Ryuu loved going around Alola to record Pokémon wild Pokémon, specifically whenever they battled. Trainer battles were cool, but to Ryuuichi seeing wild Pokémon battle each other was legendary. Why did they fight? Territory? Instincts? Food? Grudges? He was no Pokémon researcher so he didn't know.
Instead he often made up stories in his own head about why they fought whenever he saw them. His favorite Pokémon though was "the Scaly Pokémon": Kommo-o and its evolutions. The way they brandished their fists. The way their scales clanked with each punch. Their explosive roars. Their fiery auras! It was seeing this Pokémon fight a Machoke on his first visit to Vast Poni Canyon that gave him his dream. Not just to draw Pokémon, but to truly bring them to life on the big screen.
Now Ryuuichi was headed to that place once again. Kommo-o are very rare Pokémon though and, despite going for three years every weekend to that canyon he had only seen its first evolution a handful of times. He had yet to see an actual Kommo-o since that faithful day.
"Today is DEFINITELY gonna be different though. I can feel it!" he shouted to himself with a large grin as he arrived at the canyon entrance. There were definitely more Pokémon than usual on this particular day. His hand holding his camera was already twitching from his palpable excitement.
It took a few hours of moving carefully before he finally found just what it was he was looking for: a Jangmo-o. It may have only been the first evolution, but he loved it just as much as the final form. He also knew that whenever a Jangmo-o showed up, the chance of seeing a Kommo-o was above 0%. It was also fighting! The small scaly dragon was standing strong, yet hurt, against a rather imposing Boldore. Its back seemed to be against the canyon wall. Ryuuichi couldn't help but feel concerned... and excited! Surely a Kommo-o would show up soon right? Before Ryuuichi even realized it, he was already recording.
Just as Ryuuichi hoped, the Jangmo-o soon cried out for help. This caused not just one, but TWO Kommo-o to show up. Needless to say, Ryuuichi was over the moon! Of course, the Boldore also called for reinforcements. Soon it was an earth shattering, explosive battle between three Boldore and two Kommo-o. Ryuuichi was so absorbed on recording that he didn't even realize he was getting closer. He wanted to see it. To feel it. To hear it. All from close by. In his mind, only by getting closer and experiencing these sensations close up could he get closer to his dream of recreating this impact in his pages and on people's screens. Unfortunately for this aspiring animator, he had gotten... too close.
The Pokémon all noticed him. In this moment, the Kommo-o both faced him as Ryuuichi was closer to them than he was the Boldore. This distraction gave the Boldore the perfect opening. A Rock Slide. An Earthquake. The canyon face began to collapse as rocks fell and the earth shook. The Kommo-o were both powerful enough to endure and get out of the way. The Jangmo-o, however; was not.

The camera fell to the ground. Ryuuichi lunged without thinking. His hands grabbed and tried to throw that scaly body.
The last thing he saw was rocks. Rocks smashing down on him... and that small scaly Pokémon.
He could hear it. Noble Roars of fury, powerful explosions, and a never ending clanking of scales.
Yet the pain and darkness drowned it all out. No matter how powerful they were, they couldn't stop him from being consumed by the darkness. Yet... for a moment he could have sworn he... saw something right before he was swallowed up.
He remained in darkness. Even when he felt himself awakening, he remained in darkness. In the darkness he sat as he heard his parents' choked sobs. The darkness continued to remain as the doctors told him that he had lost one eye completely while his other had been damaged beyond repair by small rocks that had gotten in.
Yet those words, those terms, sailed right over his head. Only one thing was on his mind.
"W...Where is the... Jangmo-o...?" he asked.
He couldn't see it... but he felt it. Even before the doctor could say anything... Ryuuichi felt it. A movement of something. It seemed like the shaking of a head. A turbulence of... negativity?
Tears began to flow down the right side of his bandaged face.
"There was... nothing remaining. I'm sorry" said the doctor.
Already he reached out his hand, where his father's hand had been reaching out to him.
"You were holding these at the time..." his father said, placing three rough objects in that already outstretched hand.
They were three scales.
Wailing filled the room after that as Ryuuichi clutched them tightly in his barely working hand. Yet despite being only surrounded by darkness... he could still somehow feel the light of his parents by his bedside.

Of course, the Boldore also called for reinforcements. Soon it was an earth shattering, explosive battle between three Boldore and two Kommo-o. Ryuuichi was so absorbed on recording that he didn't even realize he was getting closer. He wanted to see it. To feel it. To hear it. All from close by. In his mind, only by getting closer and experiencing these sensations close up could he get closer to his dream of recreating this impact in his pages and on people's screens. Unfortunately for this aspiring animator, he had gotten... too close.
The Pokémon all noticed him. In this moment, the Kommo-o both faced him as Ryuuichi was closer to them than he was the Boldore. This distraction gave the Boldore the perfect opening. A Rock Slide. An Earthquake. The canyon face began to collapse as rocks fell and the earth shook. The Kommo-o were both powerful enough to endure and get out of the way. The Jangmo-o, however; was not.

The camera fell to the ground. Ryuuichi lunged without thinking. His hands grabbed and tried to throw that scaly body.
The last thing he saw was rocks. Rocks smashing down on him... and that small scaly Pokémon.
He could hear it. Noble Roars of fury, powerful explosions, and a never ending clanking of scales.
Yet the pain and darkness drowned it all out. No matter how powerful they were, they couldn't stop him from being consumed by the darkness. Yet... for a moment he could have sworn he... saw something right before he was swallowed up.
He remained in darkness. Even when he felt himself awakening, he remained in darkness. In the darkness he sat as he heard his parents' choked sobs. The darkness continued to remain as the doctors told him that he had lost one eye completely while his other had been damaged beyond repair by small rocks that had gotten in.
Yet those words, those terms, sailed right over his head. Only one thing was on his mind.
"W...Where is the... Jangmo-o...?" he asked.
He couldn't see it... but he felt it. Even before the doctor could say anything... Ryuuichi felt it. A movement of something. It seemed like the shaking of a head. A turbulence of... negativity?
Tears began to flow down the right side of his bandaged face.
"There was... nothing remaining. I'm sorry" said the doctor.
Already he reached out his hand, where his father's hand had been reaching out to him.
"You were holding these at the time..." his father said, placing three rough objects in that already outstretched hand.
They were three scales.
Wailing filled the room after that as Ryuuichi clutched them tightly in his barely working hand. Yet despite being only surrounded by darkness... he could still somehow feel the light of his parents by his bedside.
State of the art medical care and rehabilitation had been expensive. Alola couldn't really provide the best of these things either, so his family had moved to Byjerlfal in the Eidda region. It is thanks to the great care he received there that slowly, but surely, Ryuu's body was repaired.
The Alolan doctors stated that there was a high chance he would never be able to walk again, yet in just two years he had recovered in every way... with one exception. His eyes. No matter what, the one that remained couldn't be fixed and one of them had been completely taken out. He'd have to wear an eyepatch for the rest of his life.
"What best animator? Number one Kommo-o lover? More like number one Jangmo-o killer..." These words flooded his mind every day. They dragged him further down into the darkness. He wanted to let it swallow him up, yet it couldn't. Every time he tried to lose himself to it... he felt two lights that over the past few years had grown more powerful.
The coming of these lights were always followed by voices on the other side of his door. His parents. He could feel them. He knew they were coming even when he plugged his ears. Yet it was only in brief flashes when he focused.
The existence of those strong lights kept the darkness at bay. He hated it. So he tried to get the lights to go away via other means. Distracting himself seemed to work. So long as he didn't focus, the lights didn't appear. So long as the lights didn't appear... could he just forget everything. Be blind to everything.
"Damn lights... why don't you just--" began a listless Ryuuichi as he sat on his bed with his tablet. He had just turned 18. His parents had gotten him a new tablet complete with special controls and access functions that could read stuff on the screen for him. It was just like his computer that could do the same thing.
"Thanks I guess..." had been his response to them. It made him feel sick. Yet he was used to it. It was his attempt to get those lights to go away. To let him be swallowed by the darkness. Now this new tablet was his other form of escaping from the lights.
Yet after saying that and seeing those lights of his parents flicker and dim ever so slightly... it made his fingers tap at the tablet harder. It made him focus on those lights harder. It made the right side of his face wet while the left side of his face ached. He could feel other lights. The lights of their next door neighbors and their Pokémon.
The more he tapped at his tablet, the more he tried to focus on the dark and forget the lights the clearer they got as his focus made them clearer. Each time he sensed those lights it made him remember the Jangmo-o that he saw right before the dark. It also made him remember those Kommo-o.
"DAMMIT, TURN OFF!" he screamed right as he attempted to push the power button. Yet, his finger missed.
Instead it pressed a message notification that appeared.
The darkness returned. Yet silence did not. Hearing it made him remember the last four years of his parent's lights. How they fluctuated at times when his heightened hearing heard them mention money.
"How much... was this..." pondered Ryuuichi as he ran his fingers over the tablet. He couldn't help but think of everything they had done for him. He also couldn't stop himself from grasping those scales hanging from his necklace as if grasping at a possibility.
All it takes is a spark.
A spark so tiny, yet so blinding that, before Ryuuichi even realized it; had him hitting the "submit application" button on a filled out application.

--Ryuu liked video games before, but now he really likes video games. Even if he can't see what's going on in them, just the mindless pressing of buttons helped to distract his mind so he wouldn't focus on the "lights" or the darkness that brings about said lights if he focuses on it.
--His favorite game series is the Mario series (which is canon in Pokémon I believe).
--Ryuu once wanted to be a Pokemon trainer. He painted a baseball like a Pokeball and attempted to catch a rattata with it. It did not go well.
--Whenever Ryuu focuses, he can "sense" other living beings or life as "lights". He isn't really sure what this is and thinks he is going crazy. Sometimes these "lights" fluctuate, dim, or brighten in some circumstances. He can kinda tell when its good or bad.
--Ryuu's favorite food is cheeseburgers.
--Ryuu is not a fan of Rock type Pokémon.
--Ryuu learned how to play guitar, but quit after two months.
--Living in Alola surrounded by water meant learning to swim was mandatory, which ie did.He may be no match for a true swimmer, but he can swim well enough to survive.

Well, as long as you don't cause any trouble, you should be fine working for the Professor. And as for your friend's... wait a minute, they aren't applying for the job? I don't know if I should do this, but if your friend is just tagging along, she should be fine... I think. Application approved!"

Personality:
Energetic, excitable, and eccentric, Melissa rarely sees things as dull or boring and often makes the best of a situation. If she can’t, things’re definitely bad. She is very much not a competitive person, despite often being good at things, when she puts her mind to it, and so shies away from such things.
Backstory:
Melissa is a daughter of man from a family known for it’s business practices, and a talented musician from Sootopolis. Unfortunately, her father is the unsuccessful brother of his generation and a bitter jackass and her mom couldn’t quite stand him once the shine wore off and the grime started showing, so they split. Little Melissa was left largely to her own devices, being bounced between their homes whenever each parent got sick of her (Her father saw her alternatingly as an opportunity and as a symbol of yet another of his failures, and her mother saw her as a reminder of him), which meant she spent her childhood swimming, exploring underwater, reading, and picking up various hobbies and dropping them as her attention wandered. She turned out to be a pretty weird kid, which only alienated her further from her parents….
Though she did sort-of patch things up with her mother as the years went on, her relationship with her father has only ever soured. He’d try to get her to do something, usually for some business scheme or another of his, and if it didn’t match up with her whims and wiles, it’d go poorly, at best. Which is to say it never went well, she didn’t want to be some advertising helper or star, she didn’t want to model, and if she was going to play music, well, it would be to her whims and not some nonsense of his! It got worse as she got older, of course, when his schemes got more bitter and less savory (trying to off the successful brother and his family, for example) and she distanced herself further, staying out later at night to avoid him, when she was stuck at his home.
Which is when the first of a pair of events that changed her course happened. Nothing bad, actually, but walking by the twilit shore one evening, she found a trainer trying to shoo away a little blue Pokemon away, telling it to go live free. She asked why, and the trainer said: “Well, I don’t need her, and otherwise she’d just be stuck in a box or wherever, yeah? Sootopolis is a safeish place for a li’l thing like this to grow up, y’know?” And the trainer sighed, then, turning back to the little Pokemon. “G’wan, you’ll make friends.” It just refused, staying out of the water.
So Melissa said: “Can I have her?” And wow, did that get the trainer’s attention! He turned to face her, and leaned in and looked at her, and went “Hrm.” And then he asked: “Why?”
And she said: “I know what it is to be unwanted.” Somber and still for the first time in a long time.
And the trainer hummed. And nodded, and handed a Pokeball–bog standard red-and-white-with-a-bit-of-black, to her, and looked at the little Pokemon. “Well, you heard her, you’re hers. G’wan.” And the little Pokemon hopped over to Melissa, and stared up at her. And Melissa picked her up, and smiled.
The trainer smiled, too, genuine. “And there ya go. Just remember.” He started. “With a Pokemon, you can go wherever you want.” And he turned and walked off. And Melissa went home, not even paying attention, just holding her new companion, whom she dubbed “Lonitt”
The second event happened right when she got home. Her computer had a weird ad offering a job researching Pokemon someplace far, far, away, and it didn’t take much thought for her to send in her application, pack her things, and be off. Without telling anyone where she was going, of course.
Quirks/Talents/Aspirations/Other:
She is almost always in some sort of motion, without even realizing it; where someone else would stand patiently in line, she’d sway from side to side or even spin, and going places? She moves fast!
She is a very good swimmer and diver, of course, and likes to make little things. She can sew, she can draw, she can even sing and play a few instruments (Though she’s only good with a piano)
She really does like chewing gum.
She wants to stay well away from home, and also meet and train/get along with cute Pokemon. Her wishlist looks like some kid’s desires to see Legendary Pokemon and then also a Nosepass and other things like that.
Investigating ancient ruins, wherever she can find them.
Favorite Kind of Pokémon:

They could either request one at random, or request a specific one, that she would have procured for the prospective assistants. So when you guys arrive at the lab, you'll be meeting the selected partner for the first time in Camphors lab.

Yeah Ryuuichi would have definitely done random. Or perhaps made a choice and then forgotten what choice he actually made due to his filling out the application being quite a blur. So to him it really would be random either way.

"...How the hell did someone with zero presence get the appli-yknow what, nevermind. My own fault for sending them out enmasse to whatever dumbass trainer I found on the mailing list. Im not gonna lie, not expecting much but look, you do your job well, you get paid, and you get to spend time as far away from home as you wanna. Just...just keep that energy out of the lab. I dont appreciate all this...bouncing. And dont break anything. That is to say, yeah youre hired.
I only somewhat apologize for Camphors behavior in advance.
