Story So Far

Some years ago, scientists found a fungus, usually seen growing deep in the Amazon, living on the plants in Central Park. They extracted the fungus, determining it to be the infamous Cordyceps. This fungus had never been a problem for humans. It wasn't until the heatwave that year that things started to go wrong. Mosquitoes came, some already carrying the fungus inside them. It took one infection for everything to go wrong. By the end of November, people started to panic. Occasionally families would wake in the night, screaming in terror as their loved ones awoke, changed and mutated. It took New York in two weeks. It took until the end of December for civilians to realize that whenever a infected died, spores were released. By the end of March, the whole planet was under threat. Polar regions survived the longest but even they suffered. By December that year, everyone was one of three things: Running, Dead, Infected.
Infected and Infection

For humans that have been exposed to a mutated strain of Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis, the fungus attacks the brain and begins to alter the behavior of its host. The host will then go through three known different stages of infection: Runner, Stalker, and Clicker; each stage is more dangerous than the last.

The infection is also spread directly through contact with an Infected or via their corpse - that is, the infectious spores created by the Cordyceps and released from the host's body upon death. Spore development is the last stage in the life cycle of the Infected. This lifeless carcass serves as a breeding ground for the fungus to spread throughout the environment. When an Infected feels it is close to death, it will find dark, moist corners to die in. While this may be the end of the line for the host, the fungus will live on. The spore concentration cannot build up in wide open spaces, which is why the only places with significant spore toxicity tend to be underground or abandoned buildings. In order for the fungus to infect a host body, the host must first be alive, dead victims who come into contact with the infection do not undergo transformation. Cordyceps attacks when a host in most weak. Illness is a terrible sign, as most living survivors are already infected.


Runners*
Runners are the first and weakest stage of the Infected who have recently entered their transformation. Their bodies remain mostly intact and are often the most visible sign of recent infection and potentially where life once was. Since their recent infection, they maintain many of their human instincts and will keep together in groups, most often being seen travelling in herds or travelling towards light sources. Their body language is sluggish while they are passive, suggesting they are resisting the fungus's influence. Sometimes they do not attack at all, even when non-infected individuals are right in front of them. These non-aggressive runners will only attack if attacked first or when an object is thrown at or near them, thus losing control. Much like sneezing, the urge to attack after such interactions happens involuntarily and unwillingly by the host.

Stalkers*
Stalkers are the second stage of infection and the most likely the hunt. They choose to attack and hunt at night, as it gives them the most cover. The fungus has already taken a hold of their humanity and cast it aside. Stalkers hunt alone and in packs, making dealing with them very dangerous. They have been known to leave the shelter of cities and venture out to find food. When food is spotted, they have been known to travel towards it, regardless of how long they have to do so. Stalkers have been recorded to have followed a man forty miles before killing him in his sleep.

Clickers*
Clickers are the third and most distinctly recognized stage of the Infected. They have had prolonged exposure to the fungus, and now possess strength that significantly surpasses the average human. This makes them deadlier, but at the price of being completely blind due to fungal infection overtaking their face. However, Clickers are able to maneuver through areas by utilizing echolocation, which produces noticeable clicking noises to locate sources of sound.Clickers appear less human than Runners, with faces that are skewed and scarred by fungus developed from their infected brains. Clickers are dangerous and much more aggressive than Runners, and no longer resist the fungus because their humanity has been eliminated. Avoid at all costs

Emilie is relatively private, mainly to keep any fear she does hold, back. She fears if she lets it out, she'll lose everything she has built up. She never chooses to lead, and often agrees with plans unless she sees something desperately wrong with them. She can get incredibly irritated with others if they act stupid or give away a position, but never wishes to travel alone. She fears the dark and often does the first watch, whilst its relatively light outside.

He is easily stressed and has, more than once, risked the lives of everyone he travels with by making stupid mistakes. He was a smoker before the outbreak and his supply has long since run out; its something he actively searches for.

Never reckless, but he can quite often be much too cautious when entering a situation. He won't refuse or fear it, but he may progress much too slowly, or halt altogether to check or double check all options available.

Marc grew up a lazy child with no real ambition to do much of anything. He nearly failed highschool only because he didn't do the work, and never went out to do things. It wasn't long after graduating that he realized he was a useless little shit, So instead of simply beginning to work out or go to college, or whatever else where his own lazy habits may make him regress,... He enlisted in the army as a reservist. Though the training was much less than he'd expected, it still whipped the young man into shape and gave him some drive.

Personality: Annie is someone that strives for a good relationship with others and avoid conflict and confrontation as much as possible. She is someone that strives to see her life in an optimistic view although she knows that it is illogical with the current status of the world. Although cowardly at times she is usually quick on her feet and to react to a situation.

Short Bio: Annie was raised in the heart of Seattle with her half-brother Derrick. Although nearly ten years apart, their relationship with each other was a strong one. She was out camping with Derrick and his friend Cameron the first time she saw the Zombies and have been on the run since. Two months ago, her brother was caught by the zombies while giving Annie and Cameron enough time to escape after the trio got themselves trapped on the third floor of an apartment complex. It was a week and a half later that the duo found a group to join and have been with them since.

Personality: Cameron is a hardworking man eager to survive. He is someone that values teamwork but isn't one that would keep his opinions to himself and isn't afraid to call someone out when they are in the wrong. Although not as compassionate as Annie, Cameron strives to do his best for the wellbeing of the group by whatever means.

Short Bio: Cameron was raised in Montana with his hunting and camping enthusiastic father. After graduating from high school, Cameron moved to Seattle for college and found Derrick and a close knit friendship quickly grew between the two. After graduating from college, Cameron stuck around in Washington and became a Fish and Wildlife officer and spent most of his time either at Mt. Rainier or with Derrick. His relationship with Annie was a friendly one but didn't grow much until the trio was attacked by a hoard of zombies. Now that Derrick is gone, Cameron does his best to help his friend's sister out as much as he can.

Personality

To sum up Elise's personality in three words, they would be:

♔Wary

She has become aware of her situation, and practically worships the motto: "Survival at all costs". She's used to moving around in small groups, but prefers it when it's just her and Sarah braving the wilds. She's the planner, the fighter, the protector of the two and she asserts her authority over her little sister quite often. She tends to keep a cold, thoughtful exterior most of the time, but when she's on her own - or thinks she is on her own - that outer shell crumbles just enough for an emotional drain, something to release the pent-up feelings inside of her without anyone else seeing.

It depends on her mood. Generally, she's quiet and reserved, or frightened. Since her juvenile sister left the family to go about her own business, she's been relying on her parents more than ever to fill the gap - but after the role reversal and her own parents leaving her behind with scary big sister Elise, she's hardened up a little. She still can't comprehend how difficult these times really are, and is utterly petrified of becoming infected. Because of this, she almost always wears a veterinary/surgery mask over her mouth and nose.

Personality: Strangely, Rena has a pretty good sense of humor. She loves to joke, when appropriate, and play. She uses this as a front to hide her inner self doubt and fear; as well as fighting back against depression. Beneath her happy, no nonsense exterior she's serious and level headed. She hates working in groups, feeling she works better on her own despite her draw to the company of them. When necessary, she can focus on defending herself and others. A mental block has been made; as shes trained herself to not think of the infected as they were once people, and goes about her days acting like shes in a video game. A minor case of insanity.

Short Bio: Growing up, Rena practiced parkour like nobodies business, it was just her niche. Jumping off walls, bouncing back and forth between cramped alleys, hooking things with her ice pick axe... she felt unstoppable. She's been alone since the start of the infection, which has killed off all she cared for before anyways. Currently she's parkouring her way through the cities as a lone scavenger; killing infected and pretending to be unlocking achievements.

Sure, however I'm openly saying that if you have any vague feeling that you'll leave at some point, then please don't apply. If players leave midway through a plot, then the whole thing crashes down.

But if you do want to make this work, with your full determination, then apply. However, obvious character limits apply, I'd rather not have another 'badass' we currently have too ,many. I've seen one non badass at the moment.
As another note to Stiches, I'd advise changing the sleeping routine of your first character, all characters are in the same group and will be moving often, so her sleeping would either involve the group carrying her, or leaving her be so she can catch up.
