Don Volpe

Name: Bartalomeo

Title: Don Volpe

Age: 28

Residence: A bookkeepers / orphanage in the docklands.

Personality: Volpe is an early version of a socialist, believing in the betterment of mankind before all else. A factor of his personality is his patience, which allowed him to slowly bring the various criminal elements of Veranth together under him. To him, violence should almost always be a last resort, though those that cross him soon learn that there are many ways to kill a man without violence. He uses mystery and ignorance to his advantage, seeming to be a powerful magician who can kill any who cross him.

History: There was once a young boy who started out on the bottom rung of life. He was an Orphan living in the dockyards of Veranth. Naturally a city with as much wealth as this also developed a criminal underbelly to match, and the young lad was swept up in it. As an errand boy for various criminals, the perceptive youth realised they had no real direction. Each small group was only after a minute slice of the city's wealth, most of which ended up in the pockets of the nobility and the church. This was something he would act over the course of his life to correct.

Using his near invisibility as being just another kid on the streets, he whispered in the ears of the influential leaders and bent them to his will. It was a slow process, taking years to complete, but by the time he was fifteen, a majority of the crime in the city, albeit unknowingly, worked for him. At this point he had begun employing his fellow urchins to act as his eyes, ears, and mouth. It was then that he began the second phase of his plan.

During this time, he had also taught himself how to read, and had stolen many books on both medicines... and poisons. Seemingly random criminals throughout the city started dying mysteriously, each bearing a fox tail on his corpse. A rumor began to circulate that these deaths were caused by Don Volpe, a Sorcerer who killed any criminal who didn't follow his rules. These rules were relatively simple, designed around maximising profits, lowering unnecessary notoriety, and empowering the commonfolk.

Naturally, once the rumours hit the town guard, Don Volpe was the most wanted man in Veranth. Unfortunately, no one had any idea what he looked like, only that fox tails were found on the corpses of those he was displeased with. Taking the name Bartalomeo, and with his orphans who were too old to be invisible, he opened a bookkeeping establishment in the dockyards. He also used this building to house and train his spies, to maintain his grip on the criminal underworld.

When the old duke was arrested, Don Volpe knew that now was the time to end the feudal system in Varenth, and return wealth to the people.

Your name: We already have a Bartollemeo. I realize your name is spelled a little bit different but for sake of convenience and clarity in who is who, change this to something else. I have some links posted in the cs tab if you need help finding suitable names.

Character Concept: This roleplay is based on the republic of Venice, Florence and Rome around the time of the Renaissance. (or just past it). Your character concept, I'm having trouble digesting in this scenario (and this sort of political-military RP). Your character is a sort of robin hood, or let's be honest, the grey fox from the elder scrolls:oblivion. That doesn't work in this political climate. Criminals...were criminals in the Renaissance, and the punishments were exceedingly harsh. If you want to play some sort of corrupt bureaucrat or member of the clergy or merchant etc. that is more than welcome here. If you want to discuss your character further, please send me a PM. Honestly, I wish to add you to the roster, but I'm trying to make sure my players have the best go at it, and that is not working for Volpe. Thanks!

Alexis Fortunata

Name: Alexis Fortunata
Age: 26
Residence: Alexis resides inside a watch tower that has a beautiful view of the most of the city. The watch tower is surrounded by walls.

Personality: Alexis is a businesswoman. Alexis made a fortune at a young age by taking the family business farther than anyone expected. Her family owned a tavern and while most stop there, Alexis, by employing pickpockets, thugs and other kinds of thieves. Soon after her business started, she opened more inns and places of pleasure. Her informants are now almost everywhere in Veranth and little escapes her ears. Of course, nothing she does can be traced back to her and while people may talk about her illicit deals in hushed tones...none can outright accuse her of something. Though she maintains enough of a pious appearance to not be hauled off for heresy, Alexis has isn't too vexed into the whole "Church" thing. Alexis can often be seen in one of her inns talking with patrons or other influential people in Veranth.
Of course, Alexis improved over the years and now has a few ships that trade goods in other kingdoms. While not making her, richer than her other activities, this makes people to forget how did she made the money necessary to actually buy the goods that she trade while also giving her businesses a legit look. Alexis is also known as a collector of exquisite goods from the world.

Residence: The Turk's Coinpurse, a trading company operating out of the dockyards. They deal in products from the Oghuz Empire, a country to the south east of Lassa Peninsula.

Personality: As a foreigner by birth, Noctus holds no delusions of attaining a position of power. Instead, his aims are much more practical. He wishes to consolidate economic power such that his company has the monopoly on products from the Oghuz Empire. He is a duplicitous sort, commonly known as a snake who thrives on the misfortune of others. Despite hating violence, he is not above other underhanded tactics such as poisoning or sabotaging his opponents business.
