@Cu Chulainn, unfortunately the link is not working, but do not feel rushed. For the time being I would say to convert as much as you could to just plain text, such as here on the Guild, and forwarding it to myself if you would like a sheet more or less made. As it is, because we are waiting on two entire other characters from the ground up, you do have time as it is.

@Cu Chulainn, before I forget to mention, the only difference I would see plot and forward with the character is that an Eldritch Knight has more options based upon their magical talents. Other than that, there is no real downside to staying with the barbarian aspect of it and pursuing a path of light through honor. Given you said you were taking Magic Initiate, as I recommend all players to do if they lack magic, this should proceed just fine.

The reason I say this is that all players receive a unique spell appropriate to their character. Having more access to it is in your best interest because it is yours.

@The Harbinger of Ferocity Regarding my barbarian, I have actually opted out of taking the Magic Initiate feat until a later level due to the balancing of his ability scores. The +1 to all variant of the Human racial features seemed better for his stats overall as opposed to the other variant Human.

My reasoning behind this is because I would see his summoning of his ancestors being a sort of pseudo-magic in some sense. If you would prefer I take Magic Initiate anyway, it could be possible that he takes it as his 4th level feat.

As we discussed prior however, you cannot exactly summon spirits or ancestors; death is sort of final, at least normally so in this scenario unless someone goes well out of their way, with tremendous power to do so, to make you flesh again. However, on the Planes, death is more a set back than a permanent state of being. You can alter the powers of the archetype and the way they reflect because of that, @Cu Chulainn. Mostly the world of the spiritual is divided into the two kingdoms, in that either one calls upon the powers of "good" and their individual belief in it, or the powers of "evil" and their belief in it. More or less the same concept as to how clerics and paladins do so. So the "Ancestral Protectors" are mostly emanations of hindering energy, sort of a bulwark of power as a spell would be.

No issue with not taking Magic Initiate, it is not essential to do so. The only reason I suggested it for those who lack actual spells is because you would have more uses per day of your unique character spell, since all of them are 1st level spells and use those slots - unless of course you improve on them. As abilities, they are mostly on par with any other at that level and are only meant to be synergistic to the party; there's no huge loss for not having more as you regularly would not have them.

@JBRam2002 To cement our characters' friendship, the Tabaxi and the cleric may share a common meditative locale, a venue where each can pray and devote to their respective trances. And, how about the yo-yo as a gag gift from Katia to Wick, but secretly a whip weapon in the right proficient hands, to discern if Wick is clever to discern its methods?

@The Harbinger of Ferocity Wick would like a quarterstaff, embedded with the remnant of Shujaat's gem, for the journey forward. Would that be cool?

Sounds good. Even though whips aren't monk weapons, I'm sure Katia would find it an interesting gift. As for meditation... Anything nature-y would be Katia's preference. Barring that, she would probably just place a mat on the floor and meditate there. I'm not sure what the general area of where we start will look like, but either outside the city, a park, a fountain, or anything similar would work for Katia.

You're right! I could have sworn that monks could use martial melee weapons, but the PHB (p. 77) does not lie.

Yoga buddies! Love it. :)

@Gordian Nought, @Cu Chulainn, @JBRam2002, @Zverda, @Big Dread, for those of you unaware, at the moment we have two approved characters, those being Wick and Katia. I would like a total of four before we begin, as thus far, @Cu Chulainn's is the only other submitted one and a work in progress at that. If we haven't a sufficient party, five or more, I will include a non-player character to start us off with, but I would much prefer a party full of players.

@Gordian Nought, @Cu Chulainn, @JBRam2002, @Zverda, @Big Dread, my plan is to start this game Monday evening, which would be Tuesday morning for the majority of you. Please attempt to have your characters finished and readied for review by then if not already. No less, if you have questions, do ask one another and collaborate as I will not be easily accessed until then.

We also now have a Discord, which you should request permission to from @Zverda via a private message here on the Guild.

Alright, that time sounds solid. I have a friend helping me with making my character sheet at the moment, since I don't have a working computer right now. It should be done faster, now, although if in the event we need a role filled out, I can quickly change a few things on my character to meet the needs of the party. My apologies once again for initially being slow on the process of making my character, and I hope to have an enjoyable game with everyone else here!

@The Harbinger of Ferocity An inquiry from the weary:

Will this campaign render solely as play-by-post or compile as an amalgamation of live chat and digital compositions? My fear is that my megalomaniacal predispositions may prevent an auditory commitment from my side. I wll try to be on Discord as much as allowed by my head of security, but no guarentees due to my recent migrations from safe house to spider hole to now precarious attic.

Otherwise, Mon/Tues should be delightful.

@Gordian Nought, the game will be strictly forum based here on the Guild. The Discord was made because some users wanted a more rapid form of communication other than posts. Orchestrating too many schedules is not worth the hassle. Either players post in their allotted time, even if it takes my request, or I assume your character for you if you are unable or unwilling.

My general rule of thumb is, "Roll for it if you think it isn't anything that you would reasonably know." and I will either take or ignore the results and, if need be, inform a player they need make a specific roll. An example of this is if anything comes across as a roll of 10, give or take slightly, it would be considered common knowledge only; a concept I am borrowing from Third Edition more than anything.

This means little however when the players will be everywhere from Elysium to Mount Celestia to Ysgard and the sort. I expect you all to be fairly lost, especially with the intentionally vague, minimalistic cosmology here.

Thanks for the clarification as my lips cringe in apprehension upon the mention of future discord. :)

Hello!

I just decided to pop in and ask if you'd have space for one more character of if you are waiting for someone to make their own and I shouldn't go and ninja that spot from them. Since there seems to already be a Paladin in the works, I thought I could roll out a Battlemaster, or perhaps a CG Warlock? I'd have a CN one obsessed with balancing the world already, but he isn't exactly on the good axis so... yeah. Or perhaps a monster slayer ranger? Ahh, so many choices...

Anyhow, if there happens to be room for one more hero in the multiverse, I'd be happy to join you!

Hello again, @Hekazu and to answer your question, there is still plenty of room as I am operating by a philosophy of "first come, first served". Thus far we only have two approved characters, that of Wick and Katia. There are two characters in the works, but at most that leaves us with a party of five if you cast your hand in. There's no limit on "roles" per say, in that there's no harm in having two paladins or similar types, with all that I ask is that they are thematically and characteristically different from one another. As a whole, any class with access to magic is going to fare better in this setting, seeing as each character receives a spell unique to them, so there is no limit with that in mind otherwise.

The only true, imposed limits I cannot yield on are the alignment being Good aligned, thus no Oathbreakers as well, and the limitation of two "unusual" races in the party; any that is not an aasimar, elf, half elf or human in this world. Unusual races, such as Dragonborn, drow and the sort are something you would be more likely to see on another realm, not originating from here. If you're dedicated to that, you would need wait one encounter until the party arrived on the Planes.

Heh, this RP is almost turning into the Dragon Queen group plus Jeebs. I'm ok with that, though. Y'all seem to have some interesting ideas.

@Gordian Nought I know it's already been answered, but I also have very little free time for voice. My free time is scattered across everywhere, so if we had to do a live session, I would be opting out, sadly.
