"To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war." -Warhammer 40k Intro

Warhammer 40,000: Only War is a tabletop RPG where players take on the roles of Imperial Guardsmen, the foot soldiers of the Imperium of Man expected to hold the line against xenos warmachines and mutant horrors with little more than a lasgun and unshakeable faith. Death is inevitable for the billions enlisted in the guard and their duty is to make that death useful.

The RP would be a bit more on the rules-lite side of things and the specific focus could be a variety of things, as the game allows for the players to be members of anything from a light-infantry regiment to a armored recon regiment or recovery and salvage regiment. I've been thinking a penal legion sounds particularly interesting, as it is filled with cutthroats, penitents, or just plain unlucky or bored inhabitants of a penal colony, given minimal supplies and suicidal objectives. The legionnaires are almost forced to work together, be resourceful, and resilient, or die a quick death on the battlefield or from their own allies. But, I'm open to whatever.

I'm interested. I'm a huge 40k fan and I'd love to play this if it got enough interest.

Hey ya'll, so it seems like our boss man is MIA. Given that that is the case, would anyone object if I attempted to step in and run an OW for us?

It's been awhile, but if this is going to happen (if others run it, w/e), I might be interested.

Oh, hey, wow. I actually kinda forgot about this when real life got busy. Anyone still around?
I'd be up for a Only War or Dark Heresy 2E game if so.

Still interested, but it depends if I have time and space for another RP (and if the RP has a few people interested).

Alrighty, cool. If anyone has a specific preference as to the focus of the RP and characters, feel free to say something. That is something that is going to need to be decided.

I was always a fan of the Elysian drop troop regiments, but that's just me.

There space for one more? I'm not terribly up on Guard lore, but I'd be down for drop troops or an armor corps.

I would love to give 'Only war' a shot myself. I have yet to find a group of people to actually try that game out.

As for regiment, meh. I'm flexible and there are alot of fun options. Elysian would be cool. As would something like the brimlocke dragoons. Maccabi an jannisaries perhaps? Or a good old fashioned agri-world raised infantry regiment. Like vendoland 101st. Nice and basic to keep options simple and open.

Could always create one with the regimental creation rules. No need to bind ourselves to a specific planet in lore.

My favorite regiment is the Death Korps so I'd like to do that too, though I like the idea of the Elysian Drop Troops

@Poi

No but the premade is convenient. The only issue with the regimental creation rules is that each of us would build the regiment in a different way given the chance.

Selecting something more established would save alot of time and probably cut down on arguments.

What do you want to be fighting against (Orks? Dark Eldar? Dominates?). Hell, you could even play as Dominates.

Do you want to be participating in massive battles? small skirmishes? elite missions? That would largely be determined by regiment type although there is some overlap. Recon, light infantry, and drop troops are more likely to be given independent, long range missions. Line and siege infantry are going to be manning trenches or launching offensives. Tanks aren't going to be doing a whole lot other than shooting at other tanks. Etc.
