Most of the world is blissfully unaware of the evil that has been plotting to kill what remains of the Valkyries. Valkyries were once a team of powerful female witches who were descended from the children of the original gods.
The year now, is 2017, and the evil threatening to destroy the young girls have been active for a while now. Most simply just don't remember the events due to a spell that protects their memories from seeing the truth. The young, new magical girls are ignorant of what evil awaits them. When the six of them end up in hot water, and earn themselves a Saturday detention, they find that there's a lot more to themselves and the school that their parents and the staff are wanting to let on.
In the town of San Junipero, an all female boarding school named Arcadia Boarding School for Gifted Young Women has been the symbol of wealth and a well educated young woman. The school was originally a boarding school for wayward girls in the early 1900s, but was transformed in the late 70's as the population of San Junipero changed over time. It is now a school for girls gifted in math, science, and humanities to cultivate their talents- or at least, that's how the school markets itself outwardly.
The truth is, Arcadia is a front to protect young Valkyries from those that seek to kill them and doom the planet. As the main cast is soon to learn as the spell that presents as a permanent fog that clouds their thoughts from magic events dissipates as they attend classes. When their powers suddenly manifests at the beginning of the school year, the six protagonists end up in hot water, and earn themselves a Saturday detention.

➤ ➤ Lost in thought: it isn’t rare for Esther to zone out from time to time, often thinking about places she’s rather be or what her next painting will be about.

➤ ➤ Romantic: Esther wouldn’t be someone to talk about how they feel, but would rather express it through little things, such as painting for someone that she likes.
Personality & Looks:
Angry at the world and everyone in it- that’s Esther, or at least that used to be. As someone with a temper and often sees the bad in things, it has been hard for her to see the silver linings in life. Though, since arriving in San Junipero, she’s trying to make an effort to be kinder and more patient. She isn’t all doom and gloom though, often feeling inspired and excited when she heads down to the beach every evening to draw and paint, finding the mood of the setting sun and lapping waves calming.
Though finding friends wasn’t easy in her past, whenever someone was able to get past her cynicism, they were met with a loyal and loving person. Esther is someone who not only fights for herself, but fights for the people that she cares most about- for better or worse. However, those who break her trust and hurt her are met with an unbudging grudge against them.
Esther is slightly above average height, with thick, black curls that cascade down her shoulders- a trait dedicated to her Caribbean and Jewish heritage. Esther is often dressed in in grunge/punk clothing, accenting her rebellious nature. Ripped jeans a favorite of hers, though many pairs eventually ending up with speckles of paint across the fabric. Flannels or sweaters are also a favorite of hers to wear, usually consisting of one to three colors- a stark contrast compared to her far more colorful artwork.
strengths:
💫 Umbra: Esther is able to hide within shadows, as well teleport herself to other shadows within 10 feet of herself. The pay off is that she must hold her breath when submerged in shadow- similar to being underwater, thus only allowing her to stay in the dark for roughly 20 seconds at a time.
💫 Shadow Puppets: she is able to conjure small silhouette-like animals (birds being a favorite) out of shadow. They serve best as distractions or transportation for notes and letters. However, they only last upwards of 10 minutes, and will fizzle out of existence when exposed to strong, direct light.
💫 Murky depths: If a person steps into shadow, she can temporarily keep them there, as if the shadows were sticky. She has to be deeply focused in order to do this, and if concentration breaks, the shadows looses its hold.
weaknesses: In general, her biggest weaknesses is her own temperament. Staying level headed and not letting things or people get to her is a hurdle she will have to jump. Well, that and shellfish- though that allergy is generally well avoided.
In relation to her powers, it would be light, especially sunlight. With her abilities rooted in shadow, well lit areas and certain times of a day (for instance, noon) she’d be generally defenseless.

biography:
Esther never thought she’d end up going to the Arcadia Boarding School for Gifted Young Women. She lived a few towns away from San Junipero, going to a public school where she hated everyone, and sometimes it felt like the feeling was reciprocated. There had been bullying a couple years prior: the shoving, the mocking- little aggressions that slowly added up until Esther was read to swing her fists. Of course, there where the detentions because of it, even a temporary expulsion, but it seemed that’s what it took to be left alone- not by just the bullies, but by everyone that knew of her. She didn’t need friends anyway.
The fighting lessened, the lonesomeness increased, and the pages of her sketchbook began to fill quicker and quicker as it was her only means of escaping the reality she found herself in. Clearly, this sort of behavior worried Esther’s parents. Their eldest never behaved this way- he was a model student who seemed like a friend to everyone, outgoing and excited. Yet, to see Esther go through the near opposite, well... to say the least, it was jarring to observe their youngest. Luckily, before long a way to help was in mind.
Moving was inevitable, as both of her parents would be closer to their respective jobs if they moved towards the west and into San Junipero. They figured, hey, since the Arcadia Boarding School was so near, maybe it would do some good for Esther to be in a new environment with girls her own age, a new slate to work off of. Her grades were decent, her art was wonderful. It seemed like the perfect choice for Ez.
Knowing that she had a new start, and knowing that her parents wanted her to be happy and to excel, she tried. To be kind and calm, and to know that not everyone was her enemy. She may not be perfect- Esther was sure that the chance of her slipping up was high, but she had her fingers crossed for the best. It would be nice to have a friend, she realized. Maybe even a few of them.
