[OOC] 13674 Island Sunset Blvd / A simple Boarding House/Dorm based slice of life RPG

Ok, awesome. I am toying with the idea of having my main character, and then my secondary being some sort of a family member that she has come to stay with, probably due to some sort of problem, trouble or misfortune. To be determined what (and who) I stick the poor girl with.

UPDATE: Finally did a thing. Gretchen is up. Doing Greta... soon. :P Then I can move on to actual characters that aren't just front deskmen who give people keys and handle complaints haha. Oh, and probably complain about noise levels too.

@BeeBee2121: Totally not a problem, you could throw in an old con man, heck, you could even throw in a president into a nearby mansion. Tons of possibilities, the trick is finding ones that aren't so out there that they inconvenience other RPers. If you intend to do this retired art thief, make sure his history is extensive and explains thoroughly why and how he got away with it/or is released, how he got into it.... ect. :P No half assed backstory with something like that.

If you write one that seems interesting and wont twist up the plot around him, I think that'd be rather interesting. Perhaps he actually got off free by selling out his partner in crime, and now feels guilty about it? So long as he isn't say, still wanted in several countries and somehow never recognized anywhere I'll be cool with it. :P

@Starwinter: Having pairs is an awesome idea, I have two that I'm considering adding in myself. My only worry is that one is from a rich affluential background and I don't want to be throwing too many characters who are extraordinary into this on my own. Gretchen would also be very tolerant/helpful of anyone with a disability, so it'd be an interesting idea.

@Everyone: 2 may be the minimum, but there's no need to stop there. Feel free to go off the deep end if you like, just be careful not to go past how many you can RP. I also suggest paying attention to the schedule part of the bio for your characters so you don't end up just sitting here waiting for the next day while all of us with night owl characters go at it. :P If anyone asks though, I can PM people when days and nights shift and such so that they don't miss their chance to be active with certain characters. I'll also be regulating time of day slightly, but like any RP time will be a little bit relative.

I definitely like the idea of day and night being regulated. It will keep things moving at a believable pace. Neither of my characters are too extraordinary. I will get their sheets up as soon as I make my way from my iPad to a real lap top.

Okay, I have the Grandmother and Granddaughter who run the dorm both up now, and one character of my own up. I may or may not introduce Tai the first day(if at all tbh, still don't know if he'll fit in a fun way), depending how I feel about it. I'm going to pump out one more profile while I'm on a roll.

I didn't do a heavy proofreading, so if you notice anything off/weird about any of the profiles or have any questions let me know. :)

And yeah. I think I'll regulate by 6 hour intervals, and give people frequent little reminders of about how far through those 6 hours they should be. I'll also probably make a point to specify times during my posts when possible.

EDIT(7:26PM): Shae added. For now, she's going to be the only character I really start with in this RP on the first day. I may change my mind later once I see some of your characters though. :)

I think that's a bit much to expect from everyone, especially since it's an advanced RP, maybe just give people open range to have as many characters as they want, but don't make 2 the minimum? I personally don't really want to play two characters, and if I did, I don't really play guys so I feel like I'd be playing two girls and throwing off the character-gender ratio.

Its to encourage realism, but I'll make exceptions for people who don't have time for more than one character. Mostly I don't want people to feel the need for their characters to do something at all times during the RP. Characters sleep, and they also occasionally get tired of interacting with others. Having at least 2 characters reduces the pressure to have one unrealistically involved at all times in the social life of the dorm. If you only make one then odds are somewhat high that there'll be a point in the RP where you'll be forced into a break while either the nightbird characters play, or the early risers do their things.

Also, don't even worry about keeping track of how many females and males there are. The only reason to do that would be if everyone was doing this RP to have their characters hook up, and even if they were, why not have homosexual pairings as well? Dynamics where one gender outnumber the other can actually be interesting, so don't feel guilty if you only really like to RP girls or guys or whatever.

EDIT(11:56am): Quick note, can people give me like the timeframe on when they would have called Greta asking for a room? Just realizing we're going to need to think of whos rooms are next to whos. :P Just do it when you send a profile in.

Also, to the two who already sent one in, so long as there are no issues I'll add it after my 8 hour I'm leaving for right now, later tonight.

Works out since I had a shift today though. :) I have 3 profiles in my inbox pending a few minor changes and then I'll add them. Name: Martin Johnson

Schedule

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays he works at a local libary (Within rolling distance) from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Every other day he does internet shit and writes cheesy poetry.

Appearance

Martin would be a tall person if he had the ability to stand, around 6'3" or so, but because of the fact he's in a wheelchair he is on level with most people's midriff. His skin is rather pale and peachy mostly because of his ancestry, but also largely because he doesn't get out much.
He has a thinly shaped face with a strong jawline and bone structure, his features being somewhere between cute and handsome as his face is almost a babyface. A few freckles dot the bridge of his nose but not many, just enough, however, to make a set of faded emerald-green eyes pop.
He has his strawberry blonde hair dyed a heavily dark brown that almost seems black, styled short in an undercut with a sideways motion forcing his naturally wavy hair.
Now as a way to express his rebellion against popular society, his clothes are often dark and black, not exactly emo or anything, but they're dark with few pops of color. He has a tattoo up his right forearm of song lyrics overgrown with flowering vines with one of the vines reaching onto the back of his hand. A gold-and-emerald earring lies inside his right earlobe.

On occasion he can be caught with guyliner (Sexy af, sexy af, sexy af Nosebleed *L*)

Personality

Martin was at one time ignorant to the evils of humanity and was gullible because of it, believing there was good in everyone. Now he may still believe there is good in everyone, but he is no longer as gullible. It is now very hard to earn his trust, but if you manage to he is a very loyal friend, almost to a fault.
He is a closet dork, loving nerdy movies, playing computer games, and reading manga, but Martin is very good at hiding this behind what only appears to be a gruff exterior.
You could describe Martin as a puppy locked up in a punky human cage, looking for a release.

History

A couple of years ago, when he was only fourteen, Martin found himself without and command over his legs.

It was an accident, really, that he would be put in a wheelchair. Walking by himself on the way to the bookstore, the winter snow had begun to fall in a blizzard-like fashion, whiting out the landscape before Martin's eyes. He stepped out onto the street without noticing, the snow's blanket a cruel deception. The truck of a local farmer (as you see, Martin's hometown was on the small side) came through going entirely to fast to be safe in a snowstorm, and overtook Martin before the brakes could even be applied. He was thrown into the air and when he landed, several bones were crushed along with a plethora of other injuries.

Martin went back to school near the end of his junior year and found the entire school to be suddenly on his side.

It was weird, he had been a dorky boy with glasses who did nothing but sit around and read... romance novels. Well, to be entirely honest, some were dorky sci-fi shit, others had knights and whatnot. He simply enjoyed the reverie of a well written book. It secluded him in a way, and made him sort of eerie to the other teenagers.

But no, when he came back to school, everyone and their mother (quite literally) decided to love him up and down. To suddenly take interest in his books, his drawings of fearsome myths, his odd little collection of Pokemon cards he could never bother himself to get rid of. Everyone seemed to find him so damned interesting all of a sudden.

It was a joyous occasion at first, until things started becoming noticeable. People rolled their eyes when they thought he wasn't looking, had a nervousness to their voice.

Near the end of his senior year, Martin and his sweetheart Jacob, school quarterback (LOOOOONG ass story) had an... interesting conversation. It was two months before graduation and Jacob confessed to Martin.

"I never loved you."

And so Martin was initiated into a new world yet again, one in which a realization of the darkness of humanity came to haunt his dreams forever. One by one he got his closest friends to admit that they only talked to him because of pity. "Who says no to a guy in a wheelchair?" they'd say. Some wouldn't say anything, especially the girls. Opting out to tearing up and just leaving Martin sitting there.

When it came down to it, he had one friend left, Dallas. Dallas was a black haired boy with a penchant for trouble-making and a vehement tongue lashings. A creature without societal chains. Dallas loved Martin for who he was, and tried to help with the issues at hand. But Martin was blinded to love after all the heartbreak, and even Dallas was shoved away.

Martin moved away to a nearby city and found an old apartment to stay in. Living off disability checks and trying to help out at the library, he made a living. He changed his appearance radically, taking on the image of one who had a "troubled" teenage life in society's eyes. He lost himself in his new found solitude, and looked for the day when he found real love, not pity.

-Martin is an original character that has been in several 1x1 RPs and this is his group debut.
-Dallas will make an appearance later to make Martin's life turn upside down. :3

I trust that anyone in this RP will be able to resist abusing the fore-knowledge of any character in this RP's sexuality. Even if he's joining far later, please make a profile for Dallas too. I intend to accept Martin, but I want to read a profile from someone he knows(since you plan on dragging him in at some point anyways it sounds like) before I do just to make sure there's no other questions or anything I want to iron out for his profile.

Dallas works in the electronics section of Wal-Mart from 7:00 A.M. To 4:00 P.M. But his days are different every week.

Appearance

Dallas is almost a perfect example of the tall, dark, and handsome stereotype. Standing at around 6'2" with a creamy white complexion and a face that could melt women from a mile away. However this seems to be marred by social stereotype as soon as someone sees him for who he actually is...

He has naturally pitch black hair grown in an emo-style cut that hangs of his left eye, the right side of his hair is pulled back behind his ear and causes it to flare out on the ends. A chinstrap comes forth to frame his round face cause without it he looks a bit to boyish for his taste. His eyes are an icy blue and can just about wreck anyone's ability to stare him down.

He dresses in your standard dark colored outfits for the socially outcast. Often wearing converse or some sort of heavy boot, darkly stained jeans, a plain-dark T-Shirt and striped jackets. Occasionally he's been seen dressing almost preppy.

He also has a sapphire stud in his right ear. That seems to have sentimental significance.

Personality

Despite his dark look Dallas is far from any sort of emo-child or gothkid personality, however he does like to sit alone in a corner. He is always smiling, laughing quite obnoxiously, and doing god-knows-what. Those who judge by appearances often have trouble getting past his appearance (which is sometimes marred with black and masculine make-up) and never get to see Dallas' inner beauty. Even with appearances out of the picture it's still kinda hard to get past his first impression.

You see, Dallas has an edge, and this has earned him his status as a legend of snark. He has a rule, and a very annoying one. "If you can't handle me at my worst, you can't handle me at my best." Meaning, when you meet him, you have a fifty fifty chance on meeting the biggest douche you've ever met in your life, he likes to keep most people at a distance so the ones who can get past that he knows are keepers.

He does butt heads with some people who are more forthright about things, but he insists on being a mystery. His charms are also something to be wary of. When he starts putting on the flirt it's hard not to be sucked in by it, however it's often shallow. When it's not shallow, play-flirting it often means he is in love or wants to make friends.

The last thing about Dallas, the thing that nobody notices half the time because it's so situational, is he is very, unhealthily, chaste. The kid can't even take his shirt off. Like the rest of him, he believe you have to work to get to know him (even his nips), and you just about have to marry him to finally know Dallas through and through, and in his mind, that's how it's supposed to be.

Reason for moving into the dorm

Dallas is looking to get close enough to Martin so he can meddle in his affairs. It also gets him close to a job so he can sustain himself without his mother, he hopes he can bide enough time for his father to take interest in his letters that he sends for help.

Romantic/Sexual Experience

Dallas has a ton of experience getting other people together, but has never been with anyone himself. As for sexuality? He's not for sure he has one sometimes.

History

Dallas had his parents split up when he was young, but it didn't effect him much. He just rolled with the punches and went on with life, growing up with his mother as a single parent he had it pretty easy, he wasn't rich, but living was more than comfy. But that all changed when the fire nation attacked... Err, so to speak.

When he was old enough to do some more strenuous chores his mother swamped him with expectations out the wazoo. He had to make all A's, he had to cook, and clean, get a job, learn to drive, look into scholarships, go to church, mow the yard, sweep the floors, clean the kitchen, do the dishes, do the laundry, polish the tables, vacuum the rugs, feed the cat, pump the gas, take out the trash, make his bed, make her bed, do her dishes, do her errands, go the college she wanted him to, look the way she wanted him to, live the way she wanted him to... His own life was put on the back burner for her ideals.

Dallas and his mother have a give-and-take in their relationship. In truth they almost hate each other, but they love each other so much because since his father left they're about all each other has when the night rolls over. Dallas' mother is a southern-style, old-school, work-obsessed individual whose annoying and relentless demands out of Dallas have broke him down. Dallas hates work because of how much his mother has made him in the past several years since he's been a teenager. He is also open minded where she is dogmatic, quite where she is loud, and understanding where she is not.

He... Got fed up with her. Everything he was suddenly became anti-her, to the point even he forgot himself. The result was a darkness that inked onto his personality and style, and a confusion of self. His strive for independence suppressed and released traits about himself in a near random fashion.

This confusion is what causes him to push others away at first, his appearance warding off even more people. Eventually the radical change from a perfect boy to a troubled boy infected the high school with rumors, as well as the community immediately in touch with him, only furthering the burial of the true Dallas.
