While trying to test the above, we discovered that topics from the previous guild generation, or at least this one, cannot get join status tags applied. trying to apply such gives this error message in red: "Invalid join-status". Not really important to us (that RP is in hiatus and when rebooted will use a new thread), but might be relevant to others.

There's an idea. Have the buttons be [[@][Quote]] [@Mention]. If you get what I mean, no padding between the [@] and [quote] so they appear to be two parts to a single button, making the [@] a mentionable quote.

It'd be no smaller than the rating buttons, so it's not exactly hard to hit. It preserves space. And being directly adjacent to the quote button, it makes it clear what it does.

Those buttons are rather close. For people who don't use a computer mouse (eg. all mobile users), clicking one button rather than the other would be tricky.

In regards to the discussion on notifications, perhaps a good middle-ground is to sort (and maybe even group into hiders, at least if there are more than 1 or 2) notifications by thread. Thus you do not increase clutter, but the notifications are still grouped into where they come from so you don't have a mixed list.

I also prefer full quotes rather than expanding quotes. Expanding quotes require extra elements on the page, thus more to go wrong, and the first few lines only provide the proper context if the first few lines of the post are the context and not a later part of the post.

They're really no closer than the ratings buttons are. And once a proper mobile implementation hits, the buttons should be large enough to hit with impunity.

The benefit to mobile, however, is the ability to zoom in and be sure that you're clicking where you want. Google's Chrome mobile browser, additionally, will pop up a magnified version of the space you're trying to hit if it's not sure which link you've clicked. Between those two features, it shouldn't be too difficult.

If that's their preference, they should realize that comes with some sacrifices, like having to zoom in to hit buttons. Sites that are made for mobile users shouldn't have to cater their desktop sites for mobile users.

And I respect that your opinion is the desire for an advanced settings page. I think that's pretty distant in the future of the site, Mahz hasn't mentioned that on his docket. He may decide to just code one someday, but he did say he was pretty swamped at work right now.

This is an easy addition that introduces a desired feature, even if it's not in a desired way.

I sometimes use desktop versions on mobile when I find that the mobile version breaks my preferences more (such as relocating userbits to tops of posts which I find rather disruptive to reading posts, or using font sizes that, ironically, are too big for my cell screen).
I don't think the rating buttons appear too small to hit? They're about the same size as the formatting buttons of the reply box, and the latter I've not had issues with. My cell phone is Samsung Galaxy S II, so it's screen isn't humongous.
(If anything, editing out a single character requires much more accuracy than hitting a button of that approximate size.)

Even on a decently sized screen, a single character is almost an impossible target to hit on mobile. Gaaaaaaaaah!

Just a random thought: if a RP's IC has a marker for the page you were last on, shouldn't clicking on the title of the RP in forum view not take you to said marker rather than the very first page of the IC?

There should at least be some way to jump to that spot. We'd think the link arrow on topic should take to "latest unread" rather than to "latest post".
