To streamline this. I'm thinking;

100/50/25/600
Win/Draw/Loss/Tournament(I'm thinking total, but could be changed)

I would prefer my wagering idea, but I'm biased. I think it would provide some good incentive like done college betting brackets, or the lottery. Some of you may had other ideas, but in the interest of getting this done and moved forward - I'm fine with 100 points for the first win, 2 for the second, 3 for the third, and so on. Obviously in a bigger tournament they could lead to someone raking in a massive amount of points, which in the future, could lead to a lot of "catch up" but that's a bridge to cross later.

wagering is still on the table, you can wager any amount of points you have with a minimum of twenty five. Also items for items. Mundane items can easily be regotten through some method, but special items SHOULD not be gotten again, otherwise the wager is pointless. In done.cases people should be able to use wapons they couldn't ordinarily - sort of a "ownership transfers power" type deal. Maybe not always the case, but sshould be the normal. That doesn't mean being able to manipulate fire, if you couldnt before. Any watered items are returned to their proper owner during unranked fights/off site fights.

Tournaments should be held three-four times in a calender year. Say Jan/April/July/October. Prevents people from hosting quick grab tournaments. All tournaments should be ranked if for points. Perhaps even in them, like WOTW, you can steal a weapon from your opponents. In the vein of the infamous skin thief. Wager arent req.

All matches should have a judge, and should be linked in the upcoming Rank thread. Each post should include participants, judge, wager(if any), link, and Victor. The judges should probably post this with any comments from all participants. If you want to judge, or have a suggestion for judges message me or post here.

One account per fighter. Any caught using two will, very hopefully be subject to the banhammer.

Regarding rankings, there is one thing I would caution against and that is becoming elitist. There was/is an arena forum on the star wars site where I got my start, and what ended up happening once the rankings got higher for the really good fighters and the average fighters began to lag behind was that elitism began to set in. The top-tier fighters hung out in their untouchable castle and the rest just dwindled off until there was no one else left to fight and the entire arena died. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be a ranking system (on the contrary, I think it could be a lot of fun), but there also needs to be an attitude of "if you're not that great, we'll help you get better" to accompany it. Otherwise the average fighters are left floundering with no guidance regarding how they can improve and they eventually lose interest and leave, and the arena dies. A little positive constructive criticism can go a long way.

Regarding points, I like the 100 for a win, 50 for a draw, 25 for a loss idea, and when it comes to tournaments I vote for a bonus of 100 per victory for first place, 50 per victory for second place, and 25 per victory for third place, in addition to the normal point gain. It gives a good incentive for trying to win, while also preventing the winner from becoming borderline untouchable in the rankings.

Edit: I'm also not saying that there's a lack of constructive criticism around here, as I've seen several threads dedicated to training purposes, but just wanted to reinforce that such things are likely going to be necessary in order to keep this arena community alive as well as help it grow. As was mentioned by others, this community has always been very good at keeping things low-stress and openly inviting. :)

PS: If there is a third place prize, I just realized it would have to be shared by whichever two fighters didn't win the two second-to-last fights, so either they each get 25 extra points per victory, or we just do first and second place bonuses.

What, threads for general Arena admin stuff?

Depending on how Mahz does it, I guess one thread for the leaderboards.

One where members can sign up for Arena, with an easy to access list of combatants. This would also be a good place to put the 'ruleset' for Arena, for people who aren't interested in creating their own individual rules. Considering most tournaments tend to run in T1 Eden, that would probably be the one.

Maybe another separate one for 'certified' judges, so they can be contacted when they're required.

Arena Battleground thread, possibly.

And finally, maybe a general arena chat thread, like this one.

I think we could use an official tournament OOC thread seeing as all tournaments with ranking prizes need to be sanctioned anyway.

We need judges for a non-ranked battle where they are our characters, not the people controlling them. For example, I could have a bloodthirsty idiot guy as one of the judges and have him judge the fight accordingly, making hilariously bad choices on who should win based on his bias. Actually, that would be an interesting fight mechanic to freshen things up. You can see in what way the judges are biased so have your characters change their fighting style accordingly.

I disagree with what you said above IN.

I think that all judges should judge according to the same standard.

If it's a non-ranked battle, then why do we need judges in the first place? If there is a discrepency in the fight and the two individuals can't settle it between the two of them, then a judge can come in and settle the dispute, not the whole fight.

Also, if there is a tournament and we have judges then the judges shouldn't be participating in the tourney.

Thus thread and the Battlegrounds thread just need to be stickied.

In case Mahz can't code in the point system, we'll need a thread for that, we can also use that one for keeping track of the points and ranked fights. The IC. of that thread can be used to name challenges, but not required as we also have the Int. Chk, along with the ability to create our own battle threads marked as ranked fights. This thread can also.be used to document tournaments, as its the same process.

Do we really need a official sign up thread? If.so, what would be included in it?

At also need to make sure whoever posts them WILL be around to make edits.

If any of you want to draw up these threads, do so and message me with them so I can go.over them. Without my computer I can't write them up properly. don't worry about the points one just yet, let me talk to Mahz and see what he can do.

I also want to broach the possibility of him being able to add in a feature ROM HoR where both people have to verify the results, or possibly just the judge so the points can be awarded. If not, then whoever posts the points thread will.have to.manually update.

Why? As long as they never judge their own fights I don't see how there would be any issue with them participating.

IN is basically suggesting a Special Guest Referee type.of.fight. Its nonranked, so.it could be a fun venture to undertake. No different than any other stipulation or what have you.
