Short Biography: Ethan grew up as a normal boy, going to school, playing football and videogames. When he reached secondary school he became interested in Space, it attracted him more then anything. This strong attraction made him study all possible spaceships from Battlecruisers to Recon and Courier vessels. He studied planets and extra terrestrials Like the Tok'ra and Goa'uld. Learned about their cultures and ways of living. Not less important he learned what kind of weapons, shields and tactics they used in battle. That part interested him in particular and he made a full study of it. When Ethan reached the age of 18 he enrolled in the army as a Tactical Supervisor at the remote artillery unit. Working his way trough the ranks he eventually became head of the Remote Artillery unit and in charge of the R.S.P. (Remote Shield Project). Not long thereafter Ethan became Second in command of the Tactical Support unit, providing cover fire from long range and placing shields by Remote control. Having done this for several years with outstanding results he felt the time has come to take it to the next level. He wanted something new, as this could not be found at earth he took on yet another study and applied for the function of Weapons and Shields Officier at project Tempest, with recommendations of his Commanding Officer.

What's a weapons & Shields officer? Is it just the Weapons Officer field from the Tempest crew hider in OoC post 1?

When did he start studying Tok'ra/Goa'uld and real alien tech? The SG program is still secret, after all. we get the impression that was studied before he joined armed forces? Or is that a misunderstanding from our part?

Ellri, yes.. Weapons Officer at the bridge is indeed the job name Ethan applies for. correct me if im wrong but wouldn't that also mean he's 'in charge' of the ships shields too?

about the studies... as much as possible? maybe from files from space programs before the tempest. friends, family with particular knowledge idk

The only publicly known space program is the one with space shuttles and such. In other words, one that doesn't have any bearing upon the stargate programs.
The governments are (in collaboration) keeping alien existence and tech as secret as possible. Only a few traces have been released over the years. Some medicine, Reverse-engineered versions of various tech with added flaws, etc.

Tech of levels like energy shields is still utterly secret.

the aiming of weapons on the ships like 304's and so forth is done in a large degree by computers. He might have a knack for figuring out exactly how to predict where targets will go, though. But that probably isn't enough to rate being brought into a stargate program.

Weapons and shields are separate systems. There's probably a few bridge technicians in charge of overseeing shields. Not sure what they fall in under (tac. officer, weapons officer or captain directly), but it doesn't matter all that much. Sep knows though (or will decide)

Well Raidne has the right idea on being a XO. He's the badass, not necessarily needed on the bridge and keeps control elsewhere.

Also I can see him and McClellan will get along.

Also Forsythe and Echo are going to be happy, the Collab they were working on will need to be changed now xD.

When Ethan reached the age of 18 he did not think twice before he enrolled at the USAF. After learning the theoretical part he found himself in the cockpit of various jets. Ethan did great and served for several years with outstanding results. After four years of service his commanding officer signed him up for a ‘Special training’. Only the best flyers from all over the world were elected for this. He spent two years of training with different jets, even some experimental ones. After two years he was told that he will be one of the few lucky men that were chosen to be a fighter pilot for the Stargate program. A large battlecruiser named Daedalus was about to set off into space and he would be on it. Two years and many battles as a Space fighter pilot on the Daedalus further Ethan was called to the bridge. His experience and tactical insight had not gone unnoticed. He was asked if he would like to advance to Tactical advisor of the current Weapons Officer. Ethan didn’t hesitate for even a moment and happily accepted the offer. During this time Ethan came up with various creative ways of using the weapons that the ship used. A couple of years later, Ethan himself became the Weapons Officer of the Daedalus and fought countless battles (against Wraith ships). Over time, he got more used to utilizing Asgard technology in his duties. Upon arriving home four years after his assessment as the WO. he was offered a job at the new ship of the Stargate project. The Tempest. Ethan accepted this offer and became Weapons Officer on the Tempest.
