OOC: roleplayerguild.com/topics/82680-heart..

We as the human race would fight and bicker among each other over the slightest things... a bit funny, isn't it? Since the time that we could walk we would kill and lay waste to each other over petty things such as territory and religion, even putting our ideals on the line while at the same time back at home our people would fight over trivial things.

Justice… equality… hunger… appearances… whether someone died for the right cause or not...

Anything you could imagine with your insignificant head we fought over... and many died.

You would think for such an advance race compared to all the primitive animals that were alive at the time that we’d be far better, wouldn't we? No. The truth was that we were nothing than primates ourselves; animals who could not go beyond our differences to unite and join one another and create a better world.

In the end, we just destroyed our planet through both war and pollution… but I suppose you too know that, don't you? But now, we have our civilization back... we have everything that we want to protect.

Though, we all still remember in the year 2267 when our world was nothing more than a nuclear dump with only a few patches of habitable lands left. It wasn't until a man with technology unlike any other finally united the Earth forces under a single banner through brute force by killing anyone who opposed him did we finally become whole. He built an impenetrable fortress and had his forces cultivate and secure whatever lands could be saved by using devices meant to preserve the lands that were untainted by the countless wars we held. Communities were built within these lands, before steps to move forward were introduced.

In the year 2321, the man who united Earth led expeditions from Earth to cultivate new planets with flagships each containing the newest development; the Framewerks. These were powerful mechanized piloted units that can only be used by a select few individuals after years of training, but they allowed us to conquer planets with ease.

For years we slowly captured planets and things were working, we were finally at peace and enjoying things for we thought we were alone in the universe.

Or so we had thought...

Years had passed and in the year 2578, we finally lost communication with a human colony on our outer rim all of a sudden. At first, we thought it was just an error with the signal… until seconds later another colony tuned in and told us that they were being attacked.

We suddenly found ourselves thrown into a war with an unknown alien race for years, with all of our communications being cut off with all of our outer rim planets. Despite all the reinforcements we sent, we never heard from them… we could only assume the worst had happened.

It was only in the year of 2590 that we finally were able to make establish contact with one of our outer rim planets due to the efforts of the man who united Earth who was dedicated on find out what happened... but what we had found, was something far, far worse than discovering hell itself.

They were slain by an alien race called the Cruxi… and they had technology and firepower that was on a whole new level compared to us. Beam weapons, ships that were faster, soldiers that had barriers… you name it, they probably had it. However, their numbers weren’t as vast as ours. So we threw ourselves at them in order to keep them at bay, and to keep them from reaching more of our home worlds.

Though a strategy like that can only last so long until all of humanity starts to believe that we’re fighting a losing war… but that’s where you come in, kid.

You’re here to clean up our petty mistakes of our pasts as adults and to fight our battle. That’s the sad truth of the matter. Remember how I mentioned those Frameworks earlier, right? Well, you along with others around your age have been chosen to pilot experimental Frameworks in hopes of turning the tides of this war.

Truth be told, I don’t envy you… because I feel you’re going to be thrown straight into the horrors of things kid… I just pray you make it out of this alive, even if we don’t.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to Hearts of Metal (or HoM for short), a Reboot of End of Days! In this RP we will take the role of pilots who are aged 14-16 and trained by scientists to pilot experimental Framewerks who require developing human bodies (hence 14-16 and puberty) in order for them to work properly in the hopes of defeating the Cruxi; a mechanical and devious alien race that is hellbent on destroying humanity.
First of all, this RP is inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion, so a lot things will be similar to the way they work in Evangelion in terms of synchronization. The stronger your synchronization rate, the stronger your Framework. However your characters wont have control over this and initially these will be determined randomly in order to prevent everyone from being child prodigies; we do want to keep this a bit realistic after all. Your synchro rate will be affected by the pilot's actions and mental state during the course of this RP for better or worse.
I will say that not only will you face other Cruxi mechs and soldiers, but you will undoubtedly face certain foes that are comparable in strength and size to the angels in Evangelion, the Reapers in Mass Effect, and possibly beings who are far stronger than them; this means teamwork is highly critical.
For anyone interested, here's the character sheets:
Pilot Sheet
  • Name: What do people call you?
  • Appearance: What do you look like?
  • Age: Between the ages available, what is your given age?
  • Personality: Tell me how you act around others.
  • Motive to live: Why are you fighting? Is it because you are forced to? or are you fighting for someone else?
  • Background: Tell me about yourself.
  • Notable Deaths: This is an interesting field that will be explained in due time. Who among your friends and family have died since the War? Everyone must have at least one Notable Death.
  • Other things: If there is anything else you believe that needs telling, say so here.
________________________________________
Framewerk Sheet
  • Framewerk Code Name: All Frames are given unit numbers based on production code, however the ones we are piloting are given actual names since they are rumored to be sentient beings. What is your Frames' name?
  • Appearance: Fairly obvious. Pictures are preferred, but text descriptions are also fine.
  • Signature Weapon System: What is your Framewerk’s signature weapon at all times; the stuff it can’t trade away since it is built in. This is essentially your Framewerk's bread and butter at all times. This is something that makes your machine unique from all others. You could have a Frame with four-arms capable of using multiple weapons, or a Frame using attack drones, or perhaps an artillery based Frame that can cause destruction from afar... or say you'd rather stay in the rear and snipe things from afar, or one that charges into the front-lines with a melee weapon. These are such examples, and this will be your primary fighting style.
  • Secondary Weapon System: This is the Framework’s other weapons; another weapon it can’t trade away since it is built in. These are light-weight weapons and other attachments that are instrumental for missions. These can be support drones, back up cannons, barriers, additional subsystems or something else.
  • Armor Type: Framewerks can be anything from lightweight speedsters to heavyweight tanks. What type of armor does your Framewerk have? Note that it should be kept realistic; if you want more offensive power and flight speed, you will have to sacrifice some armor to do so, for example. Other combinations of attributes are also possible. All Framewerks are equipped with thrusters capable of space-travel.
  • Special Ability: All Frameworks have a special and unique ability that they possess that makes them powerful weapons of war... however, they haven't been unlocked yet. So, for now, keep this section blank.
Well, I'm already planning on GM-ing something like this, but fuck it.
My current dude idea (simplistic, I know, but this is what happens when I shit something out in three minutes):
As I said, just shit this out in three or five minutes. I hope it's decent, if not, tell me what sucks, please.
Well, I always enjoy a little Mecha Bash-up, my interest is tantalized, I'll see about putting something forth... no promises that my imagination won't go a bit wild though >3>
big question though, what are the important limitations? I see the implication that 'we don't have beam-weapons', apparent from the way the enemy's beam weapons are mentioned, but if we're supposed to be the experimental 'hope for survival' kind of team, 'would' we have such weapons of our own? Salvaged enemy tech? reverse engineered prototypes? Cybernetic augments? Neural link computer bullshittery? things like that? :P
@LHG100
If you have trouble coming up with a name, I can suggest one.
Could you elaborate on his appearance instead of using terms like "Resting-Asshole-Face"? I would appreciate that. Multiple secondary equipment is fine, but the barrier generator is too much.
@Shoryu
There are no limits to the technology Framewerks have available to them. They are experimental units fitted with the latest weapons and systems, whether they are reverse-engineered from the Cruxi or developed independently. Just note the realism factor to this; planet-destroying weaponry are off-limits, for example.
I'm already designing a CS, but I would like to know how big these mechs are. No need to give an exact size range, just order of magnitude. Are we talking something the size of a modern Battle Tank, an average apartment complex, or something the size of a modern aircraft carrier?
This seems most excellent, so consider my interest placed here. I'll be working on a CS then, but figured I'd drop some word that I am interested in the meantime.
I was having an idea for a genetically engineered creature as one of the pilots, attempts at half animals for a tighter sequencing series based on 'simpler' genetic models. In truth its an excuse to play a half-horse piloting this:
I, too, have interest. I'm working on a CS as I speak.
I'm going to mirror @redbaron1234's question and ask about how large our Framewerks (and, by extension, our typical enemy Cruxi mech) will be.
"I'm still alive, and I can still fight. Shouldn't that be all that matters, at this point?"
-PILOT-
Name: Lora Shinkai
Age: 15
Personality: Lora is unique for having a sort of deadpan confidence, seeming be reserved on the outside but in reality being very empowered and sure of her capability. Of course, she's not headstrong, either, and in fact proves to be rather patient. Off the field, she performs small efforts and tasks in hopes to play a little more than her part. The most emotion she can be noted showing is largely in combat, as if she has some deep-seated feelings regarding the Cruxi (and boy, does she).
Motives: Repel the Cruxi and ensure a better future.
Background:
People who say Lora went through hell don't realize that good people shouldn't go to hell.
The young Lora grew on a colony somewhat on the farther reaches of human society. Her family was one of the most esteemed on that world, and not because they had luxury. No, it was because they shared their luxury, working to create and distributor new technologies to benefit the people and ensure what happened to Earth would not so easily repeat itself. Lora was exposed to this and more, and so learned the better qualities of life and what they meant.
To say it all changed when the Cruxi appeared seemed cliche and inaccurate. Within 24 hours, it all disappeared - homes, families and lives alike. A still-young Lora and her younger brother were one of the few that managed to make it, of the single escape ship that managed to survive the ordeal. She wished she could stop crying, that after she cried all her tears, her voice went hoarse, and her heart ached the worst, it would stop. But the pain never stopped.
Lora practically begged to be enlisted in the project to weaponize Framewerks. She wanted so many things, but the only ones she could hope to get were revenge, and hope itself. She would gladly learn to take life if it meant no more had to suffer like she did. She would become stronger, far stronger than she was on that day of defeat, as strong as she needed to be to take down the enemy. And even if she died doing it, Lora was going to bring peace and happiness back to every last human who deserved it.
Notable Deaths: Pretty much anyone she was related to by blood, except her brother. A couple of her close friends also didn't make it.
Other Things: People think that Lora doesn't show her emotions because she is very scarred inside. While they are partly right, she also represses her emotion to ensure she can remain stable during Framewerk combat. It works for the most part, but there are times where she can get a little loose.
-FRAMEWERK-
Code Name: Caliburn
Primary Weapons System:
The right arm is equipped with a three-pronged 'lighting battery', a particle cannon that uses energies of up to one million volts to fire an intense bolt of energy at opponents. It has a powerful yield, but at lower energy charges the cannon isn't much more powerful than a plasma bolt - it's when you're given the time to charge the cannon to full capacity that you can put a nice, fat hole through virtually anything short of the toughest armors.
Secondary Weapons Systems:
Equipped on each shoulder blade is a paired GAU-19 heavy rotary cannon and a TOR-VN railgun system. The whole of these weapons are armed at once by rotating them onto a set of shoulder mounts. For safety reasons, control of the right arm and the primary weapons system is disabled while the secondary weapons are active.
Also equipped is a pair of infantry-grade missile launchers on the collarbone in front of the shoulder, and a reinforced shield unit on the left arm.
Frame Armor Type: Medium-Heavy ; designed to be a heavy weapons platform with a minor in tanking.
Special Ability: -UNKNOWN-
Good to see that there's interest for this. I'll start working on the OOC.
@redbaron1234
This and this should give a good indication of their size. Cruxi units can wildly differ in size, so we'll leave it at that.
@knighthawk
Sorry, but I'll have to refuse this idea. I find half-horses to be...unsavory.
@Penultimate_Pi
The pilot's picture isn't working. As for the Framewerk, independent deployment of the shoulder weapons is a bit too much. Switching between the main weapon and the shoulder weapons for different situations is fine. Otherwise an excellent sheet.
