Light

The green guy, Piccolo they called him, seemed to be the leader of the small group. Well, the people who seemed to flock around him though. One being a short bald dwarf, and the other was a kid from the looks of him. There were also a couple other people, both of them sayans!. With her included they could start a circus! But now wasn't the time for that as she was going to explain why she was there to Piccolo to put him at ease, the sayans who blew her up and that city descended.

They all chatted, Light listening to them but not giving them much concern. It took them awhile to comment about her and how they blew her up, but seemed to give it no mind, the strongest of the group actually looking concerned for a moment.

After more talking, one of the sayans revealing the origins of piccolo which Light wasn't too concerned about, after all, you are who you are, not what your told you are. They started to talk about Cybermen. The big bald one who had blown up the city then started to plant some goop, which turned into green things that started to scuttle around like bugs.

Piccolo commenting that everyone would have to take 4 of them and asking Light if she would help, Light said. "Of course! those guys blew me and a good city up. Gotta make them pay a little." and with that said, she got into a ready stance to take on her cybermen. She wouldn't turn any of them into candy or anything, best to save that move for the big guys.

I advise starting a regular PM with your Co-GM (if you haven't already) and brainstorming some ideas. :) See where things take you. And then, don't get frustrated. I've published books, and let me tell you, you can't give up when things don't go your way. Work around it, and you'll be surprised!

I have faith that you can do this, Chao :) We all do.

you published books? Thats neat. I'm not good enough or consistant enough with my writing to start that xD. I'm still trying to find my groove. I'm starting to move into trying to have more of a Terry Pratchet groove I think, but I don't know how close I am to that.

And yeah Chao, cheer up and be upbeat and things go far. I've seen a few buddies of mine take over a topic when the GM abandoned it and kept it going for double its original lifespan or more just by being upbeat.

Well. I think there may be some confusion here. Deadpool and your character Light, are not nearly the same thing. Deadpool is a serious character with a personality that is comedic and silly. Light on the other hand, is a character who turns a concept of cartoons and children's television into an actual power. From what I understand, Light isn't comedic, her powers are. I think thats the main difference. But comedic powers wouldn't be a big deal unless of course, as is the case with light, they are completely unhindered and based on the character sheet alone, seem as though they do not fit the tone or the setting of the roleplay.

I don't think the issue is about you bringing a comedic character into fold. Its encouraged. We need diversity. However, your CHARACTER should be comedic, not necessarily her skillset. And if her skillset is comedic then, you definitely should tone down what she can do. But again, I'm not particularly for the idea, but I won't tarnish it either without giving it a chance. I think if she is a serious character, not in personality, but in realism in relation to the story, it shouldn't be so bad. But I really do advise that you tone down alot of her toon powers and make her more attainable, as in, less godlike. Immortality is one thing, but when she is immortal and can do B-Z, it can be a bit much.

But Intel is boss, so he will give you his rundown of what he thinks. I'm just trying to help you at least come to a compromise with everyone else here. It'd be a shame to see something that could potentially be left out because you aren't willing to make any changes. Sometimes changes need to be made. I've had to make my fair share for characters I thought were wonderful as is, but needed to be toned back to keep in touch with the reality that is trying to be established for the RP. It's all about balance. :)

Well I'd like to know what changes she'd need then. I even told intel I was fine if she needed more rebalancing. Toonforce is a very poorly documented powerset. (I think I said that in the ooc actually) but yeah, I'm not sure thats the problem either. I think they just have a fear of comedic characters. I know, you, Pundii, Morose, and Chicken have no problems with her. Its just those two.

I appreciate what you and Pundii are trying to do.

If they're problem is powerset origin, thats all they gotta say and I can explain that better.

Also, intel, how would we talk this all out in PMs without letting you know the problem and help fix it? I'm curious as to how that could work, as if there is a way, it would be great to do to releave stress all around.

I think this all just boils down to fear that my char will be far too disruptive without even seeing her in action. Or something like that.

My own 2 cents...

If I remember correctly@Archmage MC

I remember you trying to submit a character with this toonforce mechanic in another RP before and it was completely shunted and bashed on there, showing that it is garnering the same type of reactions here as well. While I personally don't fancy the idea, I also can't judge it and will need to see it in action. It could be interesting to see. However, most people feel as though your character may be too overpowered and break the realistic feel that is trying to be established for the RP. Perhaps tone down on some of the abilities and choose the more practical toon like abilities.

For example, there is an actual Mutant in the marvel universe named Tommy. She is a morlock with a very cartoony appearance with the ability to become flat and 2-D. It's cartoony, but they made her power work realistically within the universe. If you do the same thing here, it might not be as much of an issue for everyone. It might help. :)

Nah it'll still be a problem from the sound of things. Its some irrational fear I see now so it wont change things much. If their issue was power origin, I could easily fix that, but its not that at all, but an irrational fear of a less violent deadpool. Those two seems to be the only ones having problems with it too. everyone else is fine with it.

Especially if I had to put her with a marvel hero personallity, she'd be more like Iron Man or Hawkeye (or if DC, I think Harley, but wayyy smarter), just a little worse when it comes to identifying serious situations on the outside since, in her vision. "No one is ever serious, otherwise everyone would be dead."
Light

Light was a bit confused at what Heather was saying. "I said Mr. Cyborg. Are you a guy inside that shell?" Light said, sticking her tongue out playfully. "No, I'm talking about that guy." Light said, pointing at Soldier X.

A newcomer entered the room, introducing themselves as Garbage, which Light though was an... interesting name. More so she couldn't help laughing a bit when they introduced themselves. Sure they were a cloths designer by what they were saying, but they could've came up with a better name. Tanya, someone who Light didn't know every well, offered her a welcoming hand. Archer then approached the group, eager for the paintball match, much like Vivian who tossed Light a flag and declared her team the victors more or less.

"I'll take whoever wants to join my team. If its too one sided, you all could play 'hunt the monster' with me as the monster too I guess instead." Light said at Vivan's declaration. "I'm not good at paintball. I forget, can I jsut walk through the paint balls and take the hits, or am I out if I get shot?" Light said, scratching ehr head.

(Jumping in again, hi)

I kind of see where you guys are all coming from with this.

I can understand the point Dead and Frozen are making, there are certain cases where a character like this can ruin things, or more of an overall feel, a character cracking jokes, doing dumb sorts of things or just generally being comic relief at the wrong times, or constantly, can be irritating and generally not too fun to role play with.

At the same time, I don't really think we've seen enough (or at least, I haven't seen enough) about or surrounding Light to really make a judgement over whether or not the character is like that. Personally, i've seen more comedic characters role played in this sort of environment really well, if the character has the capacity to step up and put on at least a serious face when it matters, then in my opinion it generally works, and so far I haven't seen anything to say Light can't do that.

I sort of misunderstood before what you guys were arguing about so, my bad there, but I respect all your guys views here, I think it'd be a shame to hold a character back or deny them on an assumption of bad things to come or bad intention, but ultimately if you guys just don't want to rp with that sort of character just in case, that's totally well-founded as well.

I'm just going to wait for Intel's decision though, I just like adding my two cents.

Edit: Intel's suggestion is pretty fair, i'd say.

Pretty much. She works in any setting. But from what I'm getting they're thinking of super grimdark, instead of say, Batman TAS gothic dark which is a much better darkish medium. There is a reason why Batman is much more well known and liked than Watchmen, for example. And ofc Harley came from TAS and is a fan favorite, and TAS made... (I forget the actor's name) almost the definitive joker voice. Same with Batmans actor.

Jeezus fuck guys can you all please calm your tits? I'm on my phone now and I can't bring reason to this just yet. But please do me a favor and look beyond just 1 character or just 1 trait. We have all kinds of characters here.

Here, I'm gonna bring a solution to the table. How about @Archmage MC makes a serious character and allows Light to play as secondary comic reluef, but can post as primary serious character during serious scenes?

Again, that's A solution, not THE solution. I'll be back soon to help settle things.

Eh. I'm not good with total brooding grimdark characters with no other traits but brooding and dark like these two seem to think a serious character is. That type of character is just too one dimensional. I'd lose interest pretty fast if I was forced to have to use one of those. IMO a serious character is a character thats well fleshed out and feels like a character or person, even if a bit warped. I mean, Hulk, Iron man, Hawkeye, Capt, even Deadpool are serious characters but have lots of comedy to them. Would you deny they're serious?
If I may speak candidly...

That being said, posting for Viv now :)

I'd agree with that sentiment. Like right now I'm trying to think of some replies with Light, but I'd only be able to get a paragraph or two.

Those characters can die and deal with really dark themes. Your character does neither.

It just sounds like you can't handle some equilibrium. Dark stuff needs comedy to contrast the dark and enhance it, otherwise you just get super boring things. Imagine Batman TAS for example, or Adventure time, or Steven Universe. They have their dark and their comedic. Sure the latter two are more lighthearted, but if we do batman TAS for example, they still had comedy all the time. Mostly joker stuff, but it was still comedy. Heck, did you see all the innuendos that Harley was involved in?

Have you been in lots of RPS where someone did a comedic character and didn't keep it in the confines or tone of the RP? It can be done and done well, but you'll never see if it you don't give people a chance :P.

While I won't take as dramatic a reaction, I am not enthusiastic about this character, either. In my experience (and I've said this before), joke characters are trite and awful to work with. The people that play them are 99% of the time not as funny as they think they are, and it's the rest of the players that suffer for it.

<Snipped quote by Archmage MC>

Oh no I understand, but I join superhero roleplays for more serious storylines, even comedic relief characters like Deadpool whom can't die either, deal with serious subjects and the like. A toon just makes fun of the entire concept in general, in my opinion (feel free to disagree), and is not something I ever wish to roleplay with. Roger Rabbit makes me freakishly uncomfortable, and so does that character, and I have no desire roleplaying with it.

Edit: It's not the OPness that bothers me, it's the sheer awkwardness.

Ah ok. You understand the weaknesses very well. Shame your not going to see how I play her, she isn't nearly as over the top as Deadpool. Think... I dunno... Sans from Undertale or a toned down Peacock from Skullgirls.
