The world is filled with magical wonders; spirits, gods, elder beings and more, with goals and objectives as varied as life itself. Often, these beings oppose each other, and to succeed they either unleash monsters to the world, or have chosen Mahou who wield magical weapons and powers to fight their battles for them; magical girls and boys. These are people who, through some turning point in their life, have been given a new life with magical powers, a youthful body, and a grand destiny.

The city of Penrose had become a center for repeated attacks by monsters and villains, and so has attracted Mahou from a wide region. This includes the Ascendancy, an inquisitive task force of the Beacon organization, as well as various monster Mahou, who have joined together in the hidden Sanctuary. Tensions between the factions have been compounded by the rising influence of Covington Industries, a company manipulated from the shadows by the mysterious Ebon Mint. While the corporation has revitalized Penrose after a series of magic-induced disasters through its relief efforts and employment, this has only spread the organization's control on the magical populace hidden from society. The situation is complicated by the presence of the Queen of Hearts, an enigmatic entity with interest in the city's inhabitants...

Welcome to March of the White Rabbit (or MWR for short), an RP in the same universe as Darkest Before the Dawn. In this RP, normal people are chosen by Patrons to become magical girls and boys, collectively known as Mahou. Patrons are magically diverse entities, and range from cute and cuddly Puchuu to capricious Lesser Forces, proud Gods, the purifying protectors of Beacon, the dark and mysterious agents of Ebon Mint, and even terrifying Horrors from beyond. A darker than normal setting for a magical girl story, MWR engages in themes of corrupting power, fantastic discrimination, and the challenges of immortality. However, the theme of hope is also central, as is the valiant battle for peace and changing the world for the better. Will you be a defender of justice, an agent of dubious morals, or something completely different like a monster girl?

Character Creation

Characters are created for this RP using the wider setting of the Accidental Magical Girl CYOA module, found in links below. Simply follow the steps given in the module, and fill the results of choices and rolls in the character sheet.

Applicants can also use the Crimson Cradle module when creating a character and rolling for certain tables such as Powers and/or Perks; simply replace the result in the CYOA table with the corresponding one in the CC tables. Any roll that results in creating a new character (such as the Ally Perk or Twin Soul Power) can be rerolled. Note that the coins given for use in the creator can be used at any point of the creation process. All modules listed below may be used for character creation.

(The Dark Magical Girl/Monster Girl Creation Aid module is not fully supported in the RP, but certain content of the link such as Perks and Powers can be approved for the CS submission)

Setting

The RP is based in the fictional city of Penrose, located somewhere in the Northeast US. Due to the increasing number of monsters in Penrose, the magical girl population is rising as well. Penrose has a population of 600,000 and is located on the east coast. The actual structure and mapping of Penrose will be kept nebulous to allow for player choice. For example, you can describe your character to be located at the hospital or train station without needing to specify further. There is also the Overcity, a magical dimension where the titular city of Mahou is located. While lesser in importance than Penrose, certain characters and events revolve around the arcane metropolis. More details on the Overcity can be found in the CYOA module.

Character Sheet

Character creation should be done according to the CYOA module. Please note that the amount of additional benefits and drawbacks you can take on the Patron module depend on what type of patron you have.

The Rules

1. A maximum of three active characters and Patrons can be actively used at the same time. Any characters and Patrons created afterwards must replace previously created ones. Exceptions to the rule are the Allies-perk and Twin Soul-Power, which work as described in the CYOA rulings. Submit your characters first to OOC or as a PM, and once they have been approved they can be posted to the character tab and you can begin posting in IC.
2. Allies-perk and Twin Soul-power may be rerolled into another perk or power.
3. You must first ask for permission before you can create side characters and events that have a considerable effect on the RP's story. Background characters with little consequence are exempt from the rule. For example, you can have civilians witness a fight, or have a slumber party at a magical girl's house without asking for permission to include the parents. On the other hand, them turning out to be fighters or a villain suddenly causing a city-wide swarm of monsters has to be approved first. However, in general story ideas have a high chance of being approved, so don't be afraid of sharing your ideas.
4. The number of combat-ready NPCs are limited to three NPCs per player. Exceptions can be made in certain cases, such as a higher importance of the NPCs to the overall story.
5. Keep the sexual content within RPG site rulings, with a rating of PG at the very most. Romance is fine as long as it's kept clean.
6. Violence: The world of MWR is definitely darker than the average magical girl show, with violence and death as an intrinsic part of the setting. Still, please keep the gore, body horror, and anything else explicit on the tasteful side. To give an example, the tone MWR is aiming for is late-night anime like Madoka Magica at the most extreme.
7. Post Rate: Try to post at least once every one or two weeks on average. At the beginning things might move more rapidly, but don't be discouraged, as this won't likely last long. If you're not going to be able to post for a while, please let me know.
In general, try to avoid speed posting too much. But most of all, don't sweat too much about keeping a posting schedule, as this is meant to be fun without putting pressure on having to force a post out.
8. Post Standards: Your post should at least be a paragraph or two in length, include your character's thoughts and an action or some dialogue.
9. Collaboration is recommended for dialogue and/or combat between characters when they are expected to run for longer than a couple of posts. For example, Google Docs is a good place to make collaborations.
10. If your character submission is accepted, you will receive an invitation to our Discord channel dedicated for the RP. While participation is not mandatory, it is recommended as I will be making most of my announcements regarding the RP there. It is also a chill place to hang out and discuss the story, characters, or anything at all.
11. Have fun! If you don't, let me know by posting in OOC or sending me a message, and I'll see what I can do to fix the issue. If you have any ideas you want to share in private, feel free to do so as well.

Hello there! I have returned from my break, and will be starting work on the next season of the RP. As veterans may have expected, players who have stayed around will be given a reward as a token of my appreciation. However, unlike previously, this reward will differ depending on when you joined. If you have joined us starting from Darkest Before the Dawn or Beyond the Looking Glass, your player characters, as well as their Twin Souls and Allies, receive a Ruby Coin. Older players will instead receive a Sapphire Coin.

The Ruby Coin grants one reward from the following choices:
1. Raise stats up by +4 points. For example, +1 to STR and +3 to MAG.
2. Raise stats up by +2 points, and replace a Perk with an existing one from the same Table. This also includes the Crimson Cradle selection.
3. Get a new Perk from either Table, including CC tables.
4. Get an additional Specialization, at a penalty of -4 stat points.
5. Obtain a second Weapon or Power including the CC selection, but with a stat point penalty of -3.

The Sapphire Coin grants one reward from the following choices:
1. Get a flying mount or vehicle with a capacity of up to 4 people. This may be a pegasus or other magical animal, or a magitek vehicle like a gyrocopter, to name a few examples. However, the more powerful it is, the more difficult it is to control, with the pegasus being an example of a perfectly controllable mount, and something like a dragon being extremely difficult.
2. Get a deed to a house or other property in the Overcity with a capacity for up to a single family to live in.
3. Free tuition to the Overcity College of Magic, allowing a pursuit of arcane scholarship or training for a magical profession. All rewards count as separate from existing Perks and Benefits.

Please prepare to resubmit your character sheets with the new reward mentioned once the new RP is posted.
Rachel nodded, her fist up to her chin as she surveyed the scene. “Not a lot of alibis for that time,” Rachel muttered, and then raised an eyebrow at the vial that Oliver brought out. “Some kind of fluorescent agent?” She asked, and watched as a drop of the solution was dropped to the mound of snow. The mound of snow crystallized into clear ice, and Rachel gasped at the silhouette at the bottom; it was a footprint.

“What…How did you do that?” She turned to Oliver, baffled by his discovery. “Nevermind that, why is there...” She looked up at the branch, and an epiphany hit her. “The culprit must have missed this spot thanks to the dropped snow!” She brought out her Beacon communicator, and snapped a picture of the footprint. “I’ll have the girls at the lab analyze this. Well I suppose you aren’t a complete rookie at this.” She turned to leave, but before she did, she gave one last look at Oliver. “I suppose I’ll be seeing more of you. But don’t make it a habit.” She then left, leaving those words drifting in the cold breeze.

”A souvenir?” Kimble asked with a finger to her cheek.
”Oh ,you mean like a gift! Oh, I know just the place!” She took Alicia’s hand.
”I bet Amanda’s place has something! Let’s check it out!”
And so they went for the summer islands for one last gift shopping spree.

”Oh?"
Lily’s sulking abruptly ended when she heard Connie raise her voice in the hall, and with a curious expression she listened to what she had to say. She then smiled brightly, and raised her hand up.
”I would love that, Connie! And of course, you’ll be coming too, Alex!"
She wrapped her arms around Alex, and kissed his cheek.
”Merry Christmas!" She then looked back at the empty corner where Justine disappeared with a reassuring nod.
”And a happy new year…For everyone." And so, Lily decided to believe in Justine, and moved on to celebrate the holiday at Connie’s place.

“Gotta say, knowing your skill set, I’m still impressed you managed to pull it off.”
Two darkened figures walked through a dimly lit corridor, and passed by a metallic security door. An advanced surveillance camera popped out of a wall socket in response to the arrival of the two.
“I heard the mirror was guarded by both the LF and Pedersen. Did they cause you any trouble?”
The taller, bulkier figure swiped a card key, and the metallic security door opened, revealing a hall resembling an advanced laboratory beyond it.

“We did have some changes to Viper’s initial plan after a particular mishap, but we managed to utilize it to our advantage,” the shorter, slender figure answered.
“I predicted the probability manipulation inherent in one of the guests to land the coin exactly where I needed it to.”

The laboratory hummed and whirred with various devices and contraptions, some of them glowing with magical energies. One of the scientists approached the two, a man dressed in a white suit with a black doctor’s coat over it. His face was covered by a white mask. “Ah, hello, mister Scarpe. I see you have arrived just in time.”
Scarpe stepped into the light, about to lit a cigar when the scientist raised a hand. “Ah, smoking is not permitted here, sir. It could damage the sensitive equipment.”
“Bloody-!”
Scarpe grumbled, but then tucked the cigar away. Sonia, who stepped into the light, gave a roll of her eyes.
“Wanted to see the mirror myself, since I happened to be in the area. You got it looked at yet?”

The scientist laughed awkwardly. “Yes, we imaged the arcane properties of the artifact and mapped the structure of the ley lines. However-”

“Alright, let me see it then.” Scarpe shoved the scientist and walked past the machinery to the central containment unit…Only to find it empty.

“What the hell? Where is it?” He turned to the scientist, who shook his head. “I-It’s not our fault! It was moved away…Surely you heard, right?”

Scarpe grit his teeth; he realized what he was talking about. “Damn…I hoped this wouldn’t come to pass…”

At the end of the long day, Mariette returned to her hideout, with no more information about the whereabouts of the Mirror. However, this wasn’t the end of surprises for her; as she opened the door to the living room, she saw it standing in the middle of the room; the Black Mirror itself.
Was it an illusion? A trick? But as Mariette approached the object, she couldn’t deny the aura of Asengav’s corruptive magic emanating from the infinite reflections that she glimpsed from the mirror’s surface. She even saw that the wooden frame had been chipped, alarmingly matching the piece she found at the crime scene.

Then she knew it wasn’t by coincidence that the Mirror ended back in Mariette’s possession; the tracker was on the floor before it, crushed like a stomped bug. But most alarming was the propped up letter on the table next to the Mirror; it was colored gold, with bright red cursive writing and marked by an elaborate heart symbol.

Merry Christmas, Mariette.

I look forward to your journey down the rabbit hole.

The Queen of Hearts.
