I just saw the price for arrows and I am so thankful I set up my skill-set to be a part-time merchant because I am going to need all the income I can get provided that is something I can do.
@HueMan
Will there be different kinds of arrows? Like for example fire arrows, explosive arrows, freezing arrows, etc.?
I am posting again to see if anyone would still be interested in this. The role-play never took off since I had some personal matters arise. I would still love to get this going if there is any chance.
I was torn between a couple of the classes but I decided to go with the mage and eventually become a rune-chanter to support the team archer class,

I don't usually do RPs with stats so this will be kinda new for me but this seems exciting regardless!

XCOM Operators manned the consoles that surrounded the geoscape, deciphering information and monitoring various channels for anything suspect. The commander of the NA base emerged from the other side of the geoscape, dressed in a mostly black version of the uniform the operators wore, the striking aspect of his appearance was the clear scar of a plasma-burn across the left side of his face, feebly hidden by a metallic eye-patch. Dark brown hair was streaked with strands of gray, the wear on his body the evidence of years of service "Two days ago the U.S.S Sea-fang, a nuclear submarine, was on patrol around the arctic circle. All contact was lost with the ship and its crew. A week ago natives living in upper Canada also started to go mysteriously going missing after dark. Of course they blamed a sort of boogeyman but we know better." he paused for a breath before looking up at a monitor behind the geoscape "Liberty, please pull up footage retrieving from our satellite and display it on screen."

A female robotic voice filled up the space of the command room "At once, commander. I am bringing it on-screen now." A structure clearly of design similar to the UFOs came into view, surrounded by ice.

The NA commander, Liam Marsh, faced the two squads once more "Further examination leads us to believe the structure consists of five stories. We also highly suspect there will be a commander or something close near the bottom of the facility. Besides that information, we are currently unaware of what lies in store. This is the first alien outpost we have seen so far. That is why both squads with be equipped with a arc thrower. Let me be clear, I do not expect anyone to risk their life to capture a new alien." he seemed very firm on the last point "Your mission is to capture the facility and recover anything of value. If possible, you are to capture the alien in charge of the facility. This is new territory for us so I expect everyone to be careful. Further briefing will be given on the skyranger once you approach the facility. Dismissed." He gave a quick salute, indicating it was time to leave for the aircraft

Alex had to admit even he was tad uncertain about this mission, but they were XCOM and this was what it was all about. No one else was going to take the invaders out besides them. He didn't mingle with the Arctic Wolves like the rest of his team as they all headed for the hanger, he was barely getting along with his own team. Feng seemed to be particularly friendly with Hengeveld which was not a surprise since their two squads were always paired when it was needed. Kiana seemed to be enjoying toying with the one known as Lewis. All faces he has seen before except one.

He made his way to her calmly, she must be the one that survived the Vancouver mission. The first mission fright seemed to be getting to her, he had been the same way "I heard you survived the UFO crash in Canada and took out a couple aliens yourself. This will be your first mission for XCOM, right?" He asked but the answer was obvious, listing plain fact so far.
He wished they had arrived sooner."You have already survived your first encounter with them. You might not know the enemy well but we do. Trust your instincts and follow our lead and you will be alright." He was trying his best to help, this wasn't normally something he did. It might be something her squad-leader should tell her but he was there and he felt partially responsible.
@ohsosaiko

@GeneralNox

Everyone will start in the academies but will later be assigned to a mentor to perform field studied and kick some as along the way
It had been the fear of all living creatures on Earth since the end of World War 2, the end of the world by threat of nuclear warfare. The all-consuming destruction of their power was more than enough to stave away any idea of actually utilizing them. However as Humanity crept into the 22nd century, the diminishing amount of resources brought about desperation that dissolved any sort of sensibility. Peace talks were a fragile attempt to prevent the coming destruction both with the population of Earth continuing its exponential growth and off-world colonization years away, there seemed to be no hope left. It was so on May 23, 2137 the third and final world war erupted with a hair-trigger pull from engulfing the world in nuclear fire. Only one week later, the first nuclear missile launches were detected kicking off a chain-reaction of world-ending power while the innocent lives of the world awaited the end. On May 30, the year 2137, a miracle occurred. A gigantic light blue barrier, almost unable to be seen, stretched across the missiles' trajectories world wide. The barrier surrounded each missile as it approached, encapsulating them into spheres where their explosions were contained and the energy absorbed. Shortly after this miracle appeared, A series of reports quickly circulated detailing similar strange groups who were chanted unknown words holding their hands up to the sky and proceeded to collapse after the nukes were taken care of. The world cried in Unison at the sparring of their once unavoidable fate, a scream of rejoice that quickly turned to terror. The ancient, powerful magic that had sealed the realm of mystical creatures, monsters, and magic itself had shattered opening portals to Earth releasing both terror and beauty all in equal force.

That was not the end of Earth's problems as a sinister entity became aware of their world, a consumer of life and lord of destruction. Amidst the chaos of monsters' rampaging across the globe, a small portion of his horde of twisted creatures invaded as well weaving death and destruction even against the modern armies of the world. The more inexperienced mages who had not participated in the ritual rose to the defense helping to turn the tide. The following month saw the population of Earth halved and much land lost to the fearsome monsters let loose into the world. The evil forces were pushed back and a great defensive wall was established along the border of Humanity's remaining territory. The opening of the portals was soon not to be the curse initially thought for humans could also enter through them and go to worlds unknown with resources to solve their old crisis.

The persecution mages had suffered for centuries was absolved in acknowledgement in of their value against the new threats and choice to save the world. With government support, A series of academies were constructed across human territory with the main purpose of bringing together the magical knowledge of the various disciplines into a centralized area. The school teaches a list of roles with need of magic but not are as revered or as valued as the ones who follow the combat path of magic. It was for this reason that all students must be trained like a magical militia, even those not interested in the military. A strict divide was shortly created by ancient families of magic and what were referred to as 'new bloods', those who obtained power after the rupture between worlds.

This was all in strategy to defend from the dark entity's army who would certainly return and most likely with their master. One aspect was clear, the evil power would need a stronger portal into the worlds then the ones' currently present and while the portals were useful, they seemed to be changing Earth to fit with the magical energy of the other realms it was now tied too. Of course not all creatures were monsters seeking out blood, there some benevolent beings that came through the portals, which became referred to as 'Gates'. There were also creatures that were neither such as the magnificent dragons, who were also the most sought after. It became known that if a warrior defeats a dragon in single-combat, the dragon would pledge his or her service to them. This was also the case in which an individual saved the life of a dragon.

What had once been Fantasy has become reality, a dangerous world in which Humanity has only just begun to stand on its feet. Its only hope is to rely on the new generation of warriors to come from the academies, mixing technology and magic to stand their ground.

Well that's what I have for now, would anyone be interested in this kind of RP? I welcome any questions and will try to answer them the best I can.

The area of operation was not much a surprise to Alex, their squad name was 'Arctic Wolves' after all, however he did wonder why the aliens were interested in such a remote location. Currently, there had been no records of the Aliens' constructing special facilities on the planet yet but the details suggested just that. Kiana was still at the display screen when a loud notification caused her to jolt, he had to restrain from smiling at the startled look in her face which turned to curiosity.

That was when Alex noticed it as well, it seemed their squad had been assigned to assist "Well it looks like we'll be able to meet the new girl first-hand. she left the monitor and walked over to her locker, while the Artic Wolves were the primary force in cold regions the Steel Tigers had their own share of frozen missions "I wish the aliens would invade some place tropcial next time..." She lamented.

Alex began retrieving his gear as well, the weapons would be waiting for them on their way to the sky-ranger "I am starting to think you are not right in the head. If the aliens did attack a tropical area, they would probably destroy it...not that you would get to enjoy anything there." his word spoke sharply as he changed into winter gear.

The rest of the Steel Tigers came through door shortly after, the squad leader with that stern look in his eyes that never seemed to go away "What the story here sir?" Jamerro asked walked to his bunk

Feng spoke as he tugged on his chest-piece "We have confirmed alien activity in the ice sheets of northern Canada, a number of natives have gone missing as well as a nuclear submarine. It is believed there is an alien facility below the ice." he spoke quickly

It wasn't long before the Steel Tigers were geared up with everything inside their locker, the rest would have to be grabbed at the hanger. One of the small perks of being an XCOM soldier was being able to customize your gear, apart from vital equipment. Typically the only ones with unmodified weapons or armor were the rookies, there was a bit of a custom that had grown where you had to survive a mission before you were able to put your personal touch on anything.

Kiana was the first one out of the door, the Artic clothing and gear was already beginning to make Alex sweat a little but there was no doubt he would be thankful for it later "So we get to play with the Ice puppies today?" she sarcastically said looking far too eager. It was not unusual for squads to bust on each other like that, each base was like a big family to some. There was something about saving the world from an extraterrestrial threat that seemed to bond people together.

Marcus laughed shaking his head "We'll be joining up with them any moment Kiana, for once could you do us all a favor and shut it?"

Kiana pretended to be offended but the small smirk on her face gave her away "But you would miss the lovely sound of my voice.." she turned her head back to them

Feng's voice rose above them "Both of you will shut it. You had time to loosen up earlier, we have a mission to accomplish." He spoke like a scolding father

Alex had to say he really liked his squad leader, the man had no reservations about putting the foot down when needed "What are the objectives for the mission, sir?" he asked walking to Feng's side

Feng kept looking ahead "Scout the area around the site, locate the entrance, infiltrate the facility, kill all hostiles.
We also have a request from central to capture an alien alive, they seemed pretty interest in the outsider however. It seems they managed to modify the glorified stun gun to capture them, supposedly."
Alex wondered who the poor sucker that would get that job would be.
