Jonathan Walker

In two short minutes, Jonathan had witnessed more personality pouring out of Mina than he had in the past year -- from the unusual openness to the sudden petty competitiveness. It wasn't like she had much to worry from him in terms of grades, since while he consistently had made it into the top five, he wasn't good enough in areas outside of physics and fighting to come anywhere near her, Ryuuto, Jun-Sang, or Hondo on test scores, and he was certain that she knew that. Which meant that her shell was cracking when she snapped at him. He opted not to reply at first and merely continued scribbling notes with his signature shit-eating grin on his face when something completely unexpected caught him off guard. Was she laughing? Woah. That's new.

A quick glance around the field revealed that her mid-gigglefit observation was indeed correct. There wasn't a single upperclassman who wasn't observing and probably taking notes, which on its own was only a bit amusing, but what sealed it was the resurgent giggle fit. Jonathan caught the laugh-bug and found himself giggling like an idiot right alongside her. He managed to catch himself for a moment and respond.

"I think we're all taking after Doctor Maxwell now -- PFFFFT."

The laughing started again. At least his ribs weren't broken, or this would really hurt.

Brock Van de Vate

Brock had made it most of the way across the field uninterrupted somehow. Was the other team just too busy to bother with him? Ho-lee-shit. At least his own team seemed competent, judging by the boy he'd missed on roll-call earlier throwing himself at swordy. He quickly stepped past Yasu, intent on not distracting her from dealing with Sumiko, and made a short comment to her on the way past.

"I'm moving up to probe their defenses. We can go on offense after."

The cudgel had dried into a solid brick of newspapery wood from his ever-rising body heat, and was effectively being baked the whole time. It was ready for real action and wasn't likely to fall apart at the first swing anymore, so when Brock was finished frosting over a strip of grass covering his side of the field, he turned and started running directly toward the other team's flag. He was glowing brightly, and air shimmered around his exposed skin. It'd take a little while before he got anywhere near the flag, but the other team looked like they were a little bit too comfortable, and he intended to break that up.

I've been debating over that, or whether he has some way to conceal them on himself, though I'm not sure how he would.

If he just arrived, he likely hasn't had the chance to unpack. Perhaps they're simply sheathed safely and nobody has seen whether or not they're real swords.
oh cool, that makes sense

Speaking of mentors, when do students and mentors get assigned?

I've been assuming after the CTF event or something later on day 1. Hm.
But, if you remove all your commas, how will we know when to pause when reading, or when you're listing stuff like this, this, or even say, that?

how2grammar gud: removing excessive commas edition

I keep finding myself having to remove extraneous commas. Guess it's a byproduct of how I talk in person. :'D

Jonathan couldn't help but laugh at Mina's joke, even if it was at his expense. He had a sense of humor about these sorts of things after all, and it probably didn't help that he was a borderline masochist. All throughout the previous year he hadn't stopped smiling in battle, even with his arms and legs having been broken during the second round of the tournament. Mina had fared much worse than he had, which he attributed to a poor matchup. Jonathan had made it three rounds running entirely on brute strength and coin shots until in an epiphany he tried launching something other than a coin. Namely, his opponent. It hadn't been enough to win, though.

He seemed completely oblivious to the morally dark grey concepts that Mina had put forth. To him, it was simply pragmatism, and he had no problem with other students exploiting every weakness possible. He did it himself to a limited extent, though it took a long time to work out how to deal with some people for him, and the extent of his studies on Miss Kasuke's powers had only led him to carry a handheld mirror and polarized sunglasses in his briefcase. Woefully insufficient no doubt.

"Hah, yeah, 'Sucker punch Jonathan in the face' should definitely go in your notes. I'd like to see what you've got on me at some point. If you don't mind, I think I'll borrow your idea. Every possible advantage is a good thing, and I'll be aiming for the top of my classes as well. Perhaps we could work together."

Jonathan knelt down and flipped open his briefcase to retrieve his own notepad and a BIC ballpoint pen. His family was wealthy, sure, but not so wealthy that they avoided good deals at the local Staples. Pen and notepad in hand, he stood and begun taking notes himself, clearly inspired by his partner's work ethic.

The glowy guy in red had some sort of charge-based power and was calmly walking and barking commands - some sort of strategist personality? The girl who had punched him earlier was even more absent-minded than he was judging by how easily she had gone down. The sailor had a hell of a kick behind him, so he'd have to protect his solar plexus and groin against that guy. And... Some kid was hiding behind a tree, perhaps setting up an ambush for the boy with the sword? The thought of cowardice never even crossed Jonathan's mind. He had difficulty comprehending anyone not liking fighting.

Scribble scribble.

He glanced up towards Mina Miss Kasuke again. Were people really that intimidated by her? He couldn't really see why. She seemed perfectly nice to him.

I'll wait for everyone else to post before continuing with Brock. There's a lot that can happen in the space of five to ten posts, after all.
Here's hoping that someone walks off the field with bacon-face from explosions, fire, or lightning
@tipssyCalibratorNah, it says it can be destroyed if hit with enough power.

brb punching object of infinite density hard enough to disrupt gravity and eject matter again

my will is already written and you are all the benefactors of my $3 bank account if it goes wrong
I feel bad now, Rumi doesn't have a Wavecaster to work with! )=

But! If she upgrades his eye-powers, he could technically pull off weirder and more precise throws with his shuriken, which could technically be a decent ranged attack?
