Bio

This is my second profile on here, and I have been Play-By-Post RPing for about nine years now. I do my best to see every RP to the end or at least let my character come to his/her own dramatic conclusion when I feel like signing off. Just like novel writing in real life, I tend to find myself on long hiatuses. Since writing is a great way to work out your brain, I try stay engaged as much as possible.

My favorite genres include futuristic worlds, mysteries, and super powers. Any mixture of these three elements will peek my interest.

I have three more side characters ready in the wings. I'll wait for more people to get their main character approved first though. :)
I'm going to break this rule so hard. I can be incredibly verbose, but I will try to cut down on that.

Well, here's my character, adapted from a previous Pokemon RP than fell through. The 3000 base state limit was more annoying than I thought, even though I knew that means a average base stat total of only 500; I had to change my team around a little to accommodate.

Haha! Well try your best not to break that rule often or by too much, but I understand.

I like your character. Everything is perfect. Good job. You can move this character over to the Character section.

Alright Everyone!

This RP is ready to go! Also, if you are reading this for the first time, this RP is still open. The people tagged above have shown interest, but until I have approved a MAIN character for someone, their spot in this RP is not guarunteed. Right now, I'm thinking that I will allow up to eight users.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you are working on a character sheet and would like me to tentatively hold your spot.

Balthazar's SIDE Characters

Character Sheet Guidlines

Your character should be a well renowned Pokemon trainer, but they don't have to be (or have been) a league champion. They could be well renowned for some other reason than battling (i.e. a Pokemon Coordinator, Breeder, etc.) But at the end of the day, they are being invited to participate in a battle centered tournament, so they should have a strong collection of Pokemon to choose from.

Your character can have a number of motivations for entering this tournament. Maybe they are after the grand prize for fortune and fame, or maybe they desperately want to gain that citizenship so that they can come and go as they please and catch rare Pokemon. OR maybe they aren't actually that interested in winning the whole thing; maybe they just see this as a great opprituity to visit the region, win or loose.

Everyone is allowed ONE main character and MULTIPLE side characters. All character sheets should be put inside hiders and consolidated into one post with the main character being at the top of the post. You must get a MAIN character approved before requesting a new SIDE character.

Without further adieu, inside the hiders below, you will find the character sheet outlines for MAIN characters and SIDE characters:

That's it! You can add extra information fields if you want, but as long as the basics above are included, then we're good.

Player Manual

Posting Rules:

Rule 1: Behavior: Abide by all Role Player Guild rules. Basically, don't be a butt face.

Rule 2: Posting Speed: Never post twice in a row. Wait for at least one other person. Also, don't post more than twice per day. I don't want a small group of people volleying posts back and forth in rapid fire succession, effectively spamming the RP with your personal story arc.

Rule 3: Posting Length: Please keep posts between one and three paragraphs. This RP is in the casual category for a reason.

Rule 4: Proper Formatting: Your IC posts should be titled with the name of your character and their general location. Then you will write the body of your post. At the bottom of your post, you should tag every user with a character that was directly or indirectly mentioned in your post.

How to start a battle:

Simply, challenge your opponent via IC posting and begin your battle as a posting back and forth battle. Then (through PMs or the OOC section) set a time when you can both be online for a Pokemon Showdown battle. The winner of the battle will be responsible for linking the battle replay to their IC post where they will also describe how they won the battle. NOTE: You do not have to mention everything (or even ANYTHING) that happened in the Showdown battle. Showdown is only used to determine an end result.

The above paragraph describes the process for battles between a MAIN character and another MAIN character OR a MAIN character and a SIDE character. But to save time, if two SIDE characters battle, there is also the option to roll a 2 sided dice (AKA coin flip) for a winner.

Pokemon Showdown Rules:

Rule 1: Correct Format: Always build your teams under the 'Anything Goes' format.

Rule 2: Pokemon Levels: The Pokemon for your MAIN characters should be set at level 100. The Pokemon for your SIDE characters should be set at level 90.

Rule 3: Pokemon Customization: You may freely set your Pokemon's gender, happiness level, shiny status, ability, move set, item, nature, and IVs. BUT DO NOT use the same item on two different Pokemon. ALSO, z-crystals and Mega Stones are temporarily banned; they will be allowed later in the tournament.

Rule 4: Mega Evolutions and Z-crystals: As mentioned above, Mega Stones and Z-crystals will be allowed later in the tournament. Specifically, Z-crystals will be allowed in Phase 2, and Mega Stones will be allowed in Phase 3. Trainers cannot start off with their Pokemon already Mega-evolved; that must be done in-battle, via Mega Stone.

Choosing Your Pokemon:

As a highly experienced trainer, your character should have access to a wide variety of Pokemon, but they are not allowed to bring their entire collection with them. They are only allowed to bring TEN. Six of these Pokemon must be revealed as the party you register for the tournament. The other four are reserve Pokemon that can be used later in the tournament (i.e. Pokemon that you don't choose right now).

Pokemon Party Rules:

Rule 1: Base Stats: To be accepted into the tournament, you must register a party of six that has a cumulative base stat less than or equal to 3000. This limit will increase in later rounds. Also, Pokemon with a mega stone are considered to have a base stat equal to the average of their Mega form and their pre-mega form

Rule 2: Tier Restriction: You may not use Pokemon from the Uber or OU tier. This restriction will loosen later in the tournament.

Rule 3: Multiple Pokemon: You may not use two Pokemon from the same species in your party. For example, you cannot have two Pikachu, but you can have a Pikachu and a Raichu.

Rule 4: Legendary / Mythicals: Because Legendary and Mythical Pokemon are so rare outside the Nishi region, I don't want any two trainers to have the same Legendary or Mythical Pokemon. So once someone claims one of these Pokemon, that Pokemon becomes off limits to everyone else. I say "once someone claims one of these Pokemon" because they could reveal a Legendary or Mythical as one of their four reserve Pokemon later in the tournament.

The Nishi Region:

High speed rails connect towns and cities in the Nishi Region, thus making it easy to navigate. Trainers may also go off the beaten path to explore less frequently visited areas and unmarked locations. Speaking with locals is a good way to figure out where to go and how to get there.

The Tournament:
The Nishi Region's "Wold Cup" tournament, is played out in three distinct phases:

Phase 1: The Free-for-All Round: Fifty trainers have been invited to compete. This round is designed to weed them out and find the best of the best. Trainers may not challenge someone that has less wins AND more losses than their self. To move forward, trainers must win three battles. Everyone is given a Nishi region Pokedex upon arrival that also serves as a way to communicate with other participants, thus enabling you to challenge someone far away and arrange a meet-up.

Phase 2: The Group Stages: Only 16 trainers will make it to Phase 2. Here everyone will be put into groups of four. Trainers will battle everyone in their group once. A win is worth 10 points, and you gain one bonus point for every Pokemon in your party that didn't faint. The top two trainers from each group will make it to Phase 3.

Phase 3: The Knockout Rounds: The remaining 8 trainers will battle it out in a single elimination tournament to determine our grand prize winner. Trainers will have to choose their teams BEFORE knowing who their opponent will be, because contestants will be shuffled before each knockout round.

The Backstory & Setting

Our story takes place three generations after Ash Ketchum's legacy, in a region known as the Nishi Region.

The Nishi region has lived in isolation for a long time, long before Ash and friends were born. Five years ago, they opened their docks, welcoming tourists from all over the world. Before that, public knowledge about the region was limited to rumors.

It became immediately obvious as to why they had remained in isolation for so long. The technology in their region was years ahead of the rest of the world. Their mountains contained an abundance of minerals. Their farmlands flourished with nourishing, never before seen foods. Even their hot arid desert held value in it's awe inspiring beauty. In short, there was absolutely no need for them to interact with the rest of the world. They were 100% self sustainable.

If these revelations weren't enough, there was (and still is) one fact about the region that captured the world's attention. Nearly every single Pokemon in the world can be found here. This even includes Legendary Pokemon (previously thought to be one of a kind) that have been found nesting in small numbers. This is where things started to go wrong.

Protective of their resources and habitats, the Nishi region had (and still has) laws against outsiders capturing Pokemon. For the most part, this law was respected. Unfortunately there were those that didn't care about any such rules. Due to these people's increased efforts to poach in the region, the Nishi government decided to close their boarders and double down on their defensive technologies.

It's been two years since the Nishi Region allowed a single outsider inside their boarders. Communication with them has become even worse than it was before they opened their boarders those five years ago; at least this was true, UNTIL six months ago when their government released a video. In this short five minute video, they promise to reopen their boarders but NOT in the same way as before. This time, they will only be letting hand selected trainers into their boarders.

What's more, these individuals will be participating in a tournament of sorts. The grand prize: "Riches known only to Nishi royalty and full citizenship." Citizenship includes the right to come and go from the region at will and catch one of every Pokemon species found there. Finally, the entire event will be televised so that the non-invited masses can live vicariously through their favorite trainer.

Our story begins one month before all ships will set sail for the Nishi region. Your character has just received their invitation via Pokedex message. If they select "I am interested." They will be sent details on the tournament, at which point, they can accept the tournament's rules or decline the opportunity. (These rules are outlined in the first OOC post.)

@Balthazar007 Any word on the progress of the RP thread for this?

I've been working on it little by little this weekend (but weekends are busy for me). I have all day today off though. So it should be up and running by tonight (if not, then tomorrow).

:)
@Balthazar007

Question: Assuming we plan on using one OU and Uber in the later stages of the tournament, will our team consist of four members until those stages, or will we be allowed to have two additional 'mons that we can switch out for that OU and Uber?

Yes to the switch out.

Hmm... Pokemon RP, and what promises to be an interesting plot. A chance to use Chandelure. The only problem being a piles of rules that I'll need to learn, understand, and adapt my brain to. I would like to express some interest but at the same time I am very wary and uncertain.

Understandable. Things should be more clear and concise after I get the actual RP thread up and running. I'll tag you from here on out until you say otherwise.
