Current Euh. It's been a hot minute. Things are rather different for me now, and I don't know how that translates to my presence here.

I don't *think* I'm a bad person. I might be wrong there. I try not to be, even when I screw it up for want of social awareness.

Infamous Quotes From People Who Exist

“I really don’t follow how your faith believes its perfectly acceptable to doom 4,000 years plus of sentient beings, on a pre-set path of no escape from sin, just so their descendants can be offered the ‘chance of salvation’ when the god murders its own son.”

“Don’t be an ass or a pussy, ’lest you get screwed by life. Being a mouth or a hand is somewhat safer, and an eye socket is pretty much sacred in this regard, so always keep a look out.”

Alessa Heather: Streets of Denver (Storm Drain)

Well, Margrave's rubber bullets at least did a fair amount of damage to the thugs behind Eyeblight. She imagined those would be rather a nuisance to the other assault team on the other end of the tunnel too... as for Eyeblight himself, he was barely fazed even after losing an arm, and punished Margrave by knocking him on his ass, then reattaching his arm like nothing had ever happened. And dammit all, he was avoiding Messiah's own heat beams like nobody's business! Those were invisible and extremely fast! What did it take to stop this guy?

'Team, we have a problem,' she heard Sonar declare, as though he were right next to her rather than many meters away. 'Something happened the moment the hostages were moved. I'm hearing something new. Tick tick tick tick.' Messiah's eyes widened at that... a bomb? Was the drain pipe itself wired, or was it one of the hostages? All of them, maybe? Crap, she didn't know. Somebody needed to try and defuse that thing, and she certainly couldn't do it. 'We're slightly preoccupied over here, I'm afraid!' she whisper-shouted, quiet enough that Eyeblight hopefully wouldn't hear, forceful enough to make the point.

Then Eyeblight threw the knife, directly toward Messiah herself. Tulpa moved to deflect it, but even as she did, the robed girl had begun momentarily emitting a great quantity of heat, mostly directed up and down from her front like a force field. If the knife kept moving in a straight path, it'd melt and collapse into a blob, or maybe droplets, of liquid almost immediately, and even if the molten object still reached her, it'd be slowed enough by its own loss of structural integrity and somewhat-aerodynamic shape that it'd probably not even damage the body armour underneath her robe. That, and it'd resolidify into a useless lump of metal and plastic on contact as her body sucked all the heat away from it. Even if it missed, it'd probably still melt as it passed her, and probably be spilled across the floor of the sewer pipe as a result, just as useless as before.

Either way, once the wall of heat had dissipated, Tulpa had ended up largely in front of her, whilst Margrave had found himself a ways further forward from there, retreating some distance so as to... build a wall of LEGO bricks? Knowing Margrave, this would probably be rather more dangerous than it looked, but Messiah couldn't begin to imagine how. Or hadn't the time to do so, rather. Tulpa was already giving out instructions for her plan: 'make the heat pinpricks in size', 'aim at and around him', 'multiple points of contact', 'aim for limbs'. Was that right? Shouldn't she be figuring out a plan herself? Shouldn't that be her duty as leader?

She'd need to come up with something herself if she wanted to deal with this guy, but for now, she was sure Tulpa's plan might work well enough. And, well... after that outburst of temperature, she wasn't exactly running on a full tank. She'd be fine for the moment, but if she had to resort to UV radiation... well, that probably wouldn't affect Eyeblight to begin with, but it'd be far more insidiously dangerous than a beam of heat if she accidentally struck a companion. So, pinpricks of heat; she could send out very concentrated heat spots, potentially starting minute fires on Eyeblight's body if they hit, but if he could dodge heat beams, he could probably dodge those too... he might not notice them for how small they were by comparison, though. It was worth a shot, at least, and might give her the time she needed to think. As she moved slightly to the right just to ensure she didn't strike Tulpa, she began rapidly sending the heat bursts forth as instructed by Tulpa, aiming both around him to cut off escape routes and at his limbs to cause damage, hot enough to sear flesh on contact, and certainly hot enough to set dry straw alight.
What ho, fellow human beans, it's time for another look into the mind of Harvin Freimasen. And a rambling explanation of how he fought a pirate captain. I did that already, so it's all well and good.
Having watched the Xeno's brutal decapitation of that one mercenary for the power sword, Harvin decided it'd probably be best to simply remain silent until after he had escaped the destruction of the facility - which, apparently, was inevitable at this stage. Essentially, he spent the time needed to get to safety nodding to whoever addressed him until he and as many other mercenaries as possible were in the gun-cutter, the ship flying away as the place they'd attempted to liberate finally blew up (Harvin squeaking at both the sight and the noise). That'd be a loss of funds... but hey, at least he was still alive.

Assuming the guy who owned the facility didn't kill them all. And with the volume that blared through what seemed to make up his mouth as he spoke (again drawing a squeal of shock out of the mercenary), it almost seemed like he might actually give it a try. Really, he was pretty awful to look at overall - clearly a Tech-priest, or at least affiliated with the relevant cult, if the red hood indicated anything - and probably the sort of person who would slug a person as soon as he'd... slug... them. Really, he just seemed very much like a slugging sort of man. That being said, the other Tech-priest, Nakera Kaas, was a bit nicer to look at, and probably more friendly too. She'd been in that place as a prisoner or something, but now she was out! And injured, apparently from an exploding monitor, which come to think of it may have been related to Harvin's own fight with the pirate captain. Speaking of which, he ought to back up what she'd just said.

'Uh, I can vouch for the stuff she all went and said,' Harvin started quickly, stumbling over his words slightly in his bid to get them out. 'I actually saw the head guy doing all that, and making all the reactors go mental and that. I had to fight him, see, and he had a, uh, he had sodding power armour, and a plasma gun, no idea how he got those gubbins. And a power sword, the Eldar has that now, she killed one of the other mercs to get it off him after he looted it from the guy. Anyway, he shot up the room at me with the plasma gun a bit-' he quietly decided to keep his own involvement in that unmentioned- 'and went to whack me with it, I think he was being kind of a rinsey little prick and not thinking about it or anything. But yeah, that made the plasma gun go mental itself, so he lobbed it back into the room, like HEEUUP-' he made a lobbing gesture behind him with his empty hand, the one that wasn't a giant mechanised death arm- 'and it slagged everything in it. Sorry about that exploding on you by the way, Nakera. He was bloody mad. I mean who runs with a power sword active? Oh he also chased me with his power sword, I'm pretty sure the, er, the Kroot killed him, so that was how it happened. Bang out of order, that smeg-pot.'

That was, he felt, somewhat garbled. A lot of Slome's slang and grammatical eccentricities had found their way into his rambling speech at various points, and he was half-sure the spider robot man would barely understand his explanation. Even so, he'd said his bit, and the Kroot could confirm that the guy did have a power sword, and was chasing him with it. So that'd confirm he wasn't lying, anyway.

@POOHEAD189 I mean, technically that's not what's happening there, at least as far as I was planning. I was thinking it's more like it's entirely Fineki's spell, and he's just able to make it look like it's another deity's spell, e.g. Seradwyn. Even if he does still need permission from Seradwyn to use her symbol or something, it shouldn't matter so much anyway - that ought to be the only miracle of his that works in that fashion, since half its purpose is deliberate misdirection anyway, and I'd presume most others don't come with a honking great symbol declaring "THIS SPELL WAS CAST BY FINEKI™".
@POOHEAD189 Alright, thank you. I figured that, really, he's trying to avoid being figured out for what he is, and the fact he's admitted to being a priest at all is already a step too far in his mind; it provides cover for not being a thief as Yaroslav pointed out, right up until people figure out he's a priest of Fineki, who I'd assume almost encourages thievery amongst his disciples, thus nullifying the discrepancy between "priest" and "thief".
@POOHEAD189 Wait what? No, that's... that's worse. He doesn't want them to know who he's aligned with, that's why that charm exists to begin with.
@POOHEAD189 Well, I'm just thinking he might be caught off guard for a moment, before realising what's going on. But sure, whatever works.
@POOHEAD189 So uh, that super fucks with what I put down as potential options for how he responds, but okay, sure, whatever.
@The Fated Fallen As I said in the OOC footer, I'm having @POOHEAD189 basically take the role of Fineki in order to decide whether or not the deity provides the blessing or not. I figured that was obvious, but, uh, apparently not.
What a posh name. Unusual surname, but then she was definitely a member of Vrettonia's upper class, so maybe they occasionally named themselves differently. She seemed ever so slightly taken aback by his reference to her as "lady", and he supposed he'd have to figure out the correct terminology later on; however, since she'd asked about his relatively lavish clothing, he supposed he would want to explain again that he did as the gods (a god, ahem) commanded. Before he could do so, however, the Elven Princess made her way over to them, inserting herself into the conversation in a way that the noblewoman was obviously taken aback by, asking about their respective magical potentials. Had she never encountered other priests before? Could she not generalise from those? Though perhaps Elven priests are by definition more magically-inclined than human equivalents, he pondered; he himself was but a minor facet of Fineki's overall presence in Maroleth, and though he occasionally asked, he was not often gifted His power to bestow upon others. Though now he was in such an important position... could that be Fineki's doing, or simply the dumb, more common luck that had pushed him to become a priest in the first place? Hmm...

Regardless, the lady Alice's response to the Princess Vanya was quite astute, and very well-worded. He certainly recognised the military quote - one of but a few mottos of Vrettonia that the lower class was occasionally able to filter from their more fortunate cousins - and silently acknowledged the cleverness of its use, that only a particularly well-travelled being would recognise it for what it was this far South. He didn't quite agree with it (of course a sharp mind was never a thing to waste, but you could have the sturdiest heart in the world and it'd still be pierced quite handily by any strong, talented swordsman), but the sentiment was nonetheless partially echoed. Speaking of which, to continue on from Miss Peerbane's short speech, he gestured toward her with both hands to indicate agreement, simply stating 'She is as wise as she is fair, your Highness. I am sure such a quality applies to your beauteous self, too, o Princess Vanya,' he continued, bowing ever so slightly after the fact; perhaps she'd catch the subtle compliment, perhaps not, but he hardly cared.

'As for my own magical prowess,' he continued, 'I am not a mage myself, in the manner of your two selves, but as I'm sure you're both aware, one does not need to be to petition the gods for but a miniscule fraction of their power. One must request, of course, rather than demand, but if they see fit, then some few might be blessed to spread the power of the gods more directly... if I could ask you to accept the gods into your heart for but a moment, Ms. Alice Peerbane, I might perhaps demonstrate.' He had decided now was as good a time as any to test the theory of whether Fineki had deliberately put him here, amongst this varied band of people, and recalled in his mind a short series of gestures and words designed to ask the deity to bestow upon a willing recipient "a symbol of protection from those who wish them well", complete with a small visual effect in the form of the corresponding deity's symbol, briefly emblazoned in the air as coloured light. Really, it was just a minor luck charm, designed to put the bearer in more advantageous positions for a few days before fading, but it helped make the holder feel good about themselves, at least. And, conveniently, provided room for even moderately skilled priests to snatch a few coins or trinkets whilst the target was distracted, or to allow their fellows to do so unnoticed.

'Oh, hear me, almighty Seradwyn, mistress of Magic and Passion,' he began, in this case invoking the god of magic's name as the symbol and colour to supply for the blessing - and why not, when he had two mages before him? - 'and in your mercy may I ask that you bestow upon this layperson your protection, that they be defended from the trials that might befall them in the coming times!' As he chanted, he first laid his hands upon the lady's shoulders, before removing them and circling them around her head, then in a rapid spiral pattern a few centimeters from her front- and that would be the point when he'd begin snatching things from a less observant individual, under normal circumstances, though certainly not this time- then the same pattern at the same distance to either side of her and up beyond her head, then again in two straight lines past her front, down then up, before encircling her head once more, moving both hands down to hip level, and clapping them flat together at about nose height, just in front of his own face. When he parted his palms like a flower, with wrists as hinges, he and the two observers ought to be presented with either Seradwyn's holy symbol, in which case he was ready to smirk lightly and whisper 'Ah... it seems the gods are paying attention to us after all. A good sign,'; or to be presented with nothing, in which case he'd simply shrug and say 'Perhaps not this time, then.' Either way, his point about the gods would have been made, and he'd have an answer to his unasked question.

Mere moments after that event, a knight clanked over to them. A female knight, as it happened (how rare), with most likely nothing Sett could reasonably nab without it being missed, just the same as that other soldier. She introduced herself as Dame Maygen Yarwyck, and explained her purpose for being present; Settionne considered greeting her and introducing himself, but for the moment decided to remain silent. Perhaps he might have the others in this party divulge information about themselves that they'd not reveal directly to him, and if not, he could at least gain a tad more information about her before deciding whether or not any attempt to steal from her might be profitable.
