I don't *think* I'm a bad person. I might be wrong there. I try not to be, even when I screw it up for want of social awareness.

Infamous Quotes From People Who Exist

“I really don’t follow how your faith believes its perfectly acceptable to doom 4,000 years plus of sentient beings, on a pre-set path of no escape from sin, just so their descendants can be offered the ‘chance of salvation’ when the god murders its own son.”

Clayton

Age: 20

Appearance:

Clayton is certainly an unusual figure to behold. Unlike most of his fellows, and in particular contrast to at least one of them, nearly his entire body is covered at all times by a combination of cloth and metal. Whilst his faded black jeans, shoes, and brown leather duster are all relatively normal-seeming, his entire torso is covered by a thick slab of gunmetal armour plating; whether or not this is effective as an actual defense may or may not be in question, considering his usual foes. Moreover, his head is almost always covered with a gas mask in public, hiding his features behind black filters and red lenses. Even his fellow orphans are not aware of his current appearance (or at least he seems to think so), at least at the present time; what is known is that his hair was brown, his eyes were green, and his skin was fairly light (and still is, at least on his fingers). He presently stands at around 175cm tall, with a decently strong build from lugging a full-body armoured vest around for most of each day.

Personality: Frequently, Clayton tends to act in a manner that is both blunt and cocky in equal measure. When talking, he’ll try to get right to the point rather than tiptoeing around something or pretending something isn’t so, often seeming stubborn when he has his mind set on something being just so, and in a battle, he’ll wade right into the fray, fighting the Deamis with casual, almost arrogant confidence. The reasons for this latter point are fairly simple: on the one hand, he believes heading into a fight as if he’s invincible will spur the other orphans to fight with equal confidence; and on the other, having only truly lost a fight with a Deamis once before, and that when he was much younger and less skilful, he does in fact consider himself essentially invincible, buying into his own hype a bit too much for his own good.

By contrast, his bluntness is somewhat of an extension of another trait: socially speaking, he is a bit dense, and past efforts to act otherwise with his comrades have largely gone poorly, leading him to simply not try at all. What’s the harm, after all, with being honest with friends? Yet sometimes, that doesn’t work so well either, and past outbursts from the more volatile orphans due to his blunt nature have led him to largely avoid verbal confrontations, as he knows full well he won’t fare well beyond any initial defensiveness about a point.

In any case, he does care for and about the other orphans, even if he’s not often on good terms with some of them. In particular, whilst he does consider himself unkillable, he often conveys a great deal of concern over the injuries the others suffer, especially the more serious wounds such as Nyx’s spinal injury. Who else is he going to care about if he loses them, after all? To that end, he also recognises and has come to accept that they may all suffer through failure at times, as they have all shown they are ultimately fallible even at their strongest - save, of course, his own belief in his invulnerability.

God and Deamis:

Khthon, the Warden of the Gods - Deity of the Earth and of Prisons

When the planet was born, he existed, but was yet to mature, for the young earth was hot and roiling. Soon, though, his nascent consciousness grew impatient, yearning to be free of its unconscious prison, and Khthon came to be sooner than anticipated, cooling the lava of the world to solid rock and ground. For his impatience, though, his power was seemingly incomplete; the ground he cultivated was dull and dry without others to imbue it with life, he could not demand the planet's inner layers become solid rock too, and a fraction of the planet's youthful anger constantly burned within him, making him somewhat arrogant and unaware of his limits. It may also have been that these would always have been his limitations, but who could say?
Nonetheless, when the time came to imprison the Deamis, his inner arrogance meant he felt the need to prove his worth, and so his contribution to the construction of the barrier between this dimension and theirs was disproportionate, and in a way linked it to himself and his power directly, feeding it constantly. This act cemented his role as the warden of the deities, and amongst mortals, he was taken to be a sort of protector of the weak, both literally protecting the weak from harm and keeping those who might use their strength to wrongly harm others restrained and incapable of lording it over their lessers. Yet this same act later proved his undoing, for though one demonic king could not have destroyed the barrier alone, it didn't occur to him that all of them would cooperate to do so, and its destruction damaged him greatly, rending his power and leaving him a poor fighter in the ensuing war.
Long story short, he was soundly defeated, and imprisoned as he had imprisoned the Deamis for so long. Yet, though his pride and power were both broken, this was not the end of his tale; over many decades, he drew the scattered fragments of his power back to him, and finally burst free from his cell to return to the other gods. Though he is still greatly weakened, his arrogance has only been reignited by this event, and one can only imagine it will continue to rise as his power continues to return to him.

Babelam, Queen of Madness and Broken Spirits

All the deities knew of Khthon's arrogant pride, so much so that he poured himself into the barrier between dimensions. What they didn't know was that he visited the realm of the Deamis very regularly, toying with even their kings as one might laugh at a collection of zoo animals, and fleeing to safety when he felt threatened; none were affected more than Babelam, formerly an entity of no particular birthright, but probably the closest thing to a "free spirit" the Deamis had, in the sense that she did whatever she pleased, travelled wherever her fractured mind took her at incredible speed, killing everything in her path and sending everything about her into a similar state of mania, her psyche breaking down and reforming as often as her desires changed. To this embodiment of lunatic freedom, who drew his attention for how little she seemed to care about the cage she was in, Khthon took great joy in exercising his powers to bind her, restrict her, prevent her from running wild as she so preferred, and often to tease her by letting all but one restraint free and making that last binding unbreakable, a false freedom that drove her to agonised fury time and again.
Eventually, however, she came to accept this. Though she did indeed lose her mind frequently, more often than she had in the past, she also brought herself around to, in a sense, acquire the power she had been bound with, intentionally restricting her mania with the very binds intended to limit her strength. From her bound position, she held her thoughts together for longer and longer stretches, long enough to start commanding the beings about her with her newfound control of her psychotic abilities. Some were made to channel themselves into her, bolstering her strength further and further; others were retained as beasts of burden, entities doing her will beyong her locks; and others still were tasked with breaking the divine chains that she could not shatter alone.
Ultimately, a combination of these efforts and her ever-increasing power allowed her to bend the chains binding her to her will, forming and reforming them as she pleased - and though she nonetheless had to pretend she was still truly bound to fool Khthon for a time, it was not long before the Deamis conspired to free themselves from their prison, and she found herself one of the heads of this conspiracy. As such, when she and the other demonic kings shattered the barrier, it was with a clear head and an army of minions that she approached the weakened deity of earth, laughing as she beat him into metaphorical gravel; after this, she left him for a while to the tender mercies of the Deamis he had mocked for so long, and then encased him with a power very similar to his own, coming along every so often between driving entire cities insane to whittle away at his pride and arrogance.
In the modern era, Babelam is a rather passive entity who has practically all she desires. Though she spends most of her time seemingly hibernating, encased within her own wings to form a sort of blue chrysalis at the heart of a city of frenzied and demon-corrupted humans, her body warps across the world regularly, rising from the earth for a time, and for miles around turning the meek rabidly furious, and the pride tame to the bloodlust of the mad. On the rare occasions somebody seeks her out before she moves again, they might find her to be unusually weak, enough that even a mere human could stand a chance of defeating her... at least, until she releases some of her restraints, and they realise that these are merely to weaken her for the sake of challenge, and for the sake of destroying their hope and pride. It's not clear what happens to people who suffer this fate; it is theorised that she intentionally imprisons them the way she imprisoned Khthon for so long, allowing their minds to fester in their failure and eventually go mad from the isolation. One wonders whether death would be more merciful.

Weapons:
Babelam’s Face
Unsurprisingly, Khthon is not fond of Babelam. In light of this, it makes a lot of sense why he would gift his scion a large shield bearing her image; what better way to strike her in the face than to have the Deamis do it, after all? And if it shatters, no matter, for the entire shield is crafted of pure marble, and consequently, Clayton is able to use his geokinesis to reshape its form however he pleases - restoring it to its base appearance when damaged, sharpening its edges or forming spikes on its surface to decapitate and impale his foes, reshaping it into a crude, yet highly effective two-handed sword, or even intentionally splitting it into an asteroid field in miniature, each lump of marble a potentially deadly projectile.

Abilities:
Geokinesis - 0 - Earth/Khthon
The god of earth has been quite gracious to his scion. So long as his body or his clothing is in contact with an earthly material, notably any form of silt, clay, sand, rock, or natural mineral, Clayton is able to manipulate all earth and rock of the same substance within ten meters of himself with a great deal of freedom. One would expect such an ability to be highly defensive, and indeed, whilst it is very good at protecting him from harm, he also uses it to travel far more rapidly than one might expect him to be capable of - from surfing on a wave of dirt, to launching himself off of an erupting rock spire, and even travelling up sheer cliff faces, his mobility is exceptional for his elemental affinity.
The problem, of course, with touching the ground to control it is that staying in contact with the ground whilst flinging oneself through the air via rock spire or most other means is understandably quite difficult. Moreover, whilst a concrete surface can be manipulated handily enough, he couldn't also manipulate a marble statue unless he made contact with that as well, and a wooden floor, steel beam, or even carpet will leave him high and dry, though of course not utterly defenseless given his weapons and the innate power all of the orphans bear.

Isolation - 0 - Earth/Khthon
An extension of Clayton's innate geokinesis, imbued with just a touch of Khthon's power to imprison, grants Clayton the ability to use this ability whenever he could use his geokinesis, with the same corollary on contact, but not materials. No matter what earthen substance Clayton touches, this power will throw out a burst of what appears to be sand either towards specific targets or in a radius around him, to a maximum distance of ten meters or so.
Any sentient being caught in this burst of sand will be struck by the illusion of utter isolation: most commonly, they will believe themselves to be either trapped within an infinite sandstorm, confined within four grey stone walls, or buried alive in a tomb with rock and soil pressing in around them. In all cases, they will think themselves alone, even if another creature was caught in the same sand blast as them, and if left to their own devices, most lesser Deamis, animals, and regular humans will be driven mad by the prison crafted within their minds, incognizant of the real world.
That being said, the typical primal Deamis and Clayton's fellow orphans will generally have greater power and a firmer grasp on the nature of this illusion, and can handily break it with a few minutes of concentration, or even a few seconds if they realise and focus hard upon the impossibility of the situation; the Deamis kings themselves, meanwhile, are much too powerful relative to Clayton to fall prey to such a simple trick, and if they're affected at all, they will merely be stunned briefly by the notion.

Reflect - 0 - Pride/Babelam
Compared to the earthly powers of Khthon, Babelam's corruption of Clayton's being is very simple in nature: when this ability is activated, his skeletal muscles are locked in their current position, and any melee attack made against him until the abilility is deactivated will harm the attacker accordingly instead of Clayton. The obvious catch to this, of course, is that Clayton cannot move whilst the ability is active, though this is surprisingly less of a detriment than one might expect when he can still utilise his geokinesis in tandem; the less obvious catch is that it specifically reflects harm from melee attacks, and indeed from melee attacks: his muscles are not made super-hard due to their paralysis, so environmental harm such as a long fall will still damage his body correspondingly, whilst damage from an arrow or bullet will not return to its originator, ensuring that he must get in close or make good use of his other options to avoid any injuries from long-distance threats.

Alessa Heather: Little Owl Cafe

...Collin.

Collin was a mole for the Community.

She’d come up with the notion of using Ira’s abilities to save him from his powers’ negative effects to begin with.

‘Well, don’t I feel stupid,’ she murmured under her breath, frowning to herself. Her chest was tightening, with anxiety, with annoyance, with... anger even. How dare he. He... he’d led the Wards for a year before being incapacitated, how much of that was he feeding-

She exhaled, forcing herself to relax, straighten up, and think it over as she realised her body language mirrored Evelyn’s. If this was anything like with... with Dean... ugh, she didn’t need to remember the warehouse again, and Kendall throwing up into her drink at that exact moment didn’t help matters at all. The point was, Dean hadn’t been in his right mind, and there was a good chance Collin might not be either. Though, if that was so, he might be long gone as far as being an ally went... no, no “might”. That wouldn’t help any of them here. He was a threat, and for the sake of argument, his inability to be un-brainwashed had to be the presumption, no matter if it was true or not in the moment.

So. Evelyn could close the trap, so to speak, if they could just set the bait; she imagined that meant preventing him from using his power once he realised he was busted, and she imagined Evelyn would indeed have that in hand. They needed to see what they could come up with as far as tricking Sonar to begin with, then; the implication they were going after Patriarch directly might be a good idea, but it was too obvious, as if they were intentionally putting themselves in harm’s way.

Although... what if they pretended they’d be putting themselves in such a situation without realising? If a mission was announced, and it happened to put them in an easy position for the Community to capture them all in one fell swoop... and, of course, they’d need to find a way to scan for who Sonar was contacting as a result, though she imagined Decoy would have that handled. Yes, this could work well for them all.

‘I think,’ she began slowly, ‘that we should use ourselves as the bait, going off of Evelyn’s statement. We wouldn’t actually need to put ourselves in harm’s way, mind; we’d just need to make him think the Community could capture us as a group. Turning all of the Denver Wards into minions would be an irresistible prize for them, right?’ She looked to the other Wards, wondering whether they had anything to say about that. Plus, if it turned out Collin wasn’t the mole, he wouldn’t say anything at all, and that’d clear his name. She could only hope.

Raymond Haywood: The Airport

Hmph. Blucifer was down, eh? Of course a major threat would target the most obvious landmark in the area to announce themselves - though if nothing else, at least he’d avenged the creator’s death, if that thought gave the dead man any comfort. As he continued along his route, a couple more updates came in - the possibility of other Thinkers present, as one might expect considering a terrorist attack had just happened; and the announcement that the Jacks other than Raymond himself ought to keep their equipment packed. Not a problem for him, then.

‘I shouldn’t need to say this, but all of you stay vigilant,’ he quietly tacked on to Chatterbox’s instructions. ‘The last thing we need is for anyone to get caught out and killed.’ For now, he’d stick to his initial route, following his own advice by keeping a watchful, albeit subtle, eye open for anybody who wasn’t meant to be present - that is, non-thralls. He had his tools to collect from the assigned location, which he reckoned he’d reach very soon, and once those were in hand, it’d be a simple matter to find a place to get in uniform and prepare himself for the attacking Cape.

Yurel - Jaggi

Yes, perfect. Sauron was charging, and the Apceros was still distracted, swinging its tail once again even as Yurel leapt back out of its range, much more cleanly this time. 'Scrap, keep it up!' he barked, encouraging Scrap to keep grabbing the Apceros' attention; his own barking redoubled, and again he faked a brief charge at the big dumb creature before leaping out of range. He knew what the strategy to deal with it was now - not that that mattered, with Sauron bearing down on it from an angle it couldn't really protect itself from.
@Old Amsterdam@ProPro
‘...yeah. Confidence,’ he agreed, nodding with a slowly-increasing smile. Sure, that was all he needed! A bit more confidence, yeah! And hey, confident meant doing stuff like greeting people.

So, with Blue’s sentiment about how she really wanted to see one of his shows in the future spurring him on, he stood up, took a step toward Leonard, and promptly tripped over his own feet, scrambling wildly to try and keep himself upright, before eventually restabilising himself in an incredibly awkward spread-leg posture. An embarrassed blush crossed his features, and he shakily offered his hand for Leonard to shake, just about mumbling out ‘B-Bugsy,’ his expression showing just how aware he was of his own lack of coordination.

@knifeman
With the van’s departure, and no further performance available, the crowd gradually dispersed, leaving Mieke mostly alone in the park for the time being. Certainly, nobody really wanted to see somebody be so badly wounded, possibly fatally, but the fact that such obvious public figures were Stand users without knowing it could perhaps be a lead to follow - albeit one that represented how dangerous their lack of knowledge might be, either to them or to others. At least Mieke had Arthur’s text message to try and distract her.

@LemonZest1337@Lugubrious
As Arthur’s text sent, the lights changed. Before he could start moving, however, a very loud red motorcycle blasted past its own red light, cutting off everyone else, and barely swerving around a car that had just started pulling out. From the look of things, it seemed like the two black leather-clad riders were a man in front and a woman holding on behind him; over the motorcycle’s engine, both Arthur and Hogan might be able to hear a couple of shrill whoops of excitement, before the bike sped off into the distance, and the traffic began moving again, much more legally than the motorcyclists. Whether Arthur wanted to do anything about that was on him, though one might argue there was no reason to do so.

Dirk Messir - Dirkwing Dirk Does Dirk Deeds

The fact that you lucked out about this so dramatically doesn't make you any better of a person. You're still a horrible freak.

Nooope. I win, loser. I got the ally, and he donuts even knows about the sparoons. He won it. He is the best.

Except you suck Fool! You can't succeed Idiot!

Yes. You will succeed. You'll be the succeedest to ever succeed. And furthermore, you have top deer there was then that deer taste. In coats.

'Okay, Smish, we should get to the go,' Dirk malts, patting Smeth on the back to get him to start going. 'And we'll tell everyone we just beat up first. Wait, no. Jim can do that. Big Tiger Jim. We'll go the opposite directing round first.' Yes, perfect plotan. He's going to do it. They will do it, and it'll be good.

'...should there be less obverse imagey?' you asked first, for obvious reasons that he was about to say. 'It might be obverse, and people will tell Brulee Bill about it.'

...wait.

'Obvious, I meant.'

Good Job, Dirk! That Correction Was Very Useful For Him!

He was is am knowing of this, Big Guy. Yaes.
Alessa Heather: PRT HQ

Emergency mission...? Huh. Well, this was a good time for it, wasn’t it? But, if it was so crucial, maybe it’d be worth investigating. And Lily was the one providing the details, at that. Alessa could only wonder what was going on there. But, no mentioning it out loud; she wasn’t one to mull over details like that with nobody to chat about them with, anyway, so best to get to the point.

At the Little Owl

Jogging to the cafe designated by the alert, dressed in blue jeans and a fairly frilly light grey shirt that, she felt, didn’t suit her overmuch, she entered to realise she was actually one of the later arrivals there. Lillian was there already, as were the newest recruit Kendall- Mastar, in her guise as a cape- and Elliot, in... well, his usual state. She never had gotten to properly apologise, had she? Not for lack of trying, but because he’d promptly brushed her off as insincere. She’d settled for telling him that when he was ready to talk about how he felt, she’d be ready to receive him, the same spiel that she’d essentially given Evelyn - but no response on that front, either. It was like he was actively avoiding her.

Even so, she smiled to him, despite his closed eyes, and to everyone else present; went up to the counter and purchased a latte; and then took a seat next to Lillian. Her girlfriend. Gosh, had it really been two weeks? And already, she was getting closer to her, by the day if she looked at it that way. Enough, as it happened, to recognise that Lillian squeezing her hand was a bit too tight to be a simple gesture of appreciation. She was worried about this mission, actually, if her expression was anything to go by.

‘Well, this is nice, isn’t it?’ she asked, an effort to break the tension. ‘A morning out before school, breakfast coffees, and in such a lovely place. I don’t think I could ask for better.’ She wasn’t sure how well she did there, but... well, it was a start.

Raymond Haywood: The Airport

Funnily enough, when it came to missions, fifteen days was a lot of time. Time to plan, time to prepare. Time to get his weapon and clothing into the airport. Time to stock up on the right sort of ammunition. Rubber bullets, in his case; they could still be lethal, of course, but there would be an active show of minimising the force he was using. And besides, he decided what shots were and were not lethal.

And in civilian clothing, with Drake’s thralls opening the way, entry into the area was an almost casual affair. The reason: to stop an A-class villain. How the Broker knew: there were obvious options, even without using a Thinker to divine the future. On the other hand, whilst their civilian get-ups meant they could get inside the building and to their designated meeting point more easily, it’d be getting into costume in such a way that they could remain inconspicuous until the attack began that’d be the kicker. He hoped those thralls had placed his gear somewhere suitable.

Chad Belton: Home

It was, to be frank, a bit terrifying how true the expression rang: “the more things change, the more they stay the same”.

On the one hand, he had been reunited with his best and only friend, and he was a parahuman now. Wherever he looked, his mind made it clear that he was no longer normal. With a thought, rock turned to superheated goo (even if he wasn’t looking at it, he’d eventually realised), and this let him assist Sheila in ways he’d never dreamed plausible before.

And on the other... school was still something he had to attend. He was mostly ignored. Mostly disliked. He got his gym sessions in regularly, of course, until his muscles screamed at him most days. A lot of the time, he had nothing better to do after school anyway. Homework wasn’t especially difficult. Boring, one might even say.

He’d expected more action as Salem. Almost craved it. The thought of melting somebody’s flesh from their bone was a thought that had gone through his head many a time in the past two weeks.

But not this early in the morning. Right now, he was in the middle of breakfast. Honey Nut Cheerios. Tasty stuff. Sugar-loaded, too. Probably not the best breakfast for helping develop muscle, but he had a banana each morning too. That was nice, yeah.

‘So, Chad, big day today?’ his mom asked. She was nice, honestly. Brown hair going grey, getting on in years a little so to speak, but ever-friendly. Nicer than he deserved. She meant well, obviously. She just wasn’t... helpful, so to speak.

‘Not really,’ he said once he’d swallowed his mouthful, shaking his head even before that. ‘I’ve just got, uh... classes and stuff. Might go out to the gym again today, might not. I... I might try going out somewhere else, too, honestly. I’ve been thinking that might be...’

He didn’t really get to finish his sentence, as his dad suddenly petted his hair from behind with a hearty ‘Hey, that’s great to hear, son! It’s good that you’re starting to get out more, you know?’ Rambunctious, was probably the way to describe him, only just starting to show his own years in his hair despite being, what, seven-odd years older than mom? His lifestyle was pretty active. He was a bit more extraverted than either Chad or his mom, so that probably contributed to it.

And yet, he didn’t even think to ask where he might be going. Good for Chad, since he didn’t really want to say anyway, but still a bit disappointing. Again, a nice person. Just not helpful, given Chad’s particular issues. He’d probably be more helpful in a bodybag, frankly. Just cut apart and tossed in, like so many-

‘Er, thanks, dad,’ Chad managed to get out, blinking lightly as he reset his hair. ‘It’s not a big deal, anyway. Gotta start thinking about seeing new people, is all.’

‘Well, I’m very pleased to hear that,’ his mom uttered, smiling gently. ‘And you know what? You’ve gotten more sociable in general recently, I’m realising! Well done.’ Platitudes. She never really believed in him, did she? He considered over another mouthful of cereal that he could probably generate a pool of lava under her right now, and she wouldn’t know who killed her...

Oh, shit. He could just kill them both on a whim, as well, couldn’t he? It wasn’t just Sheila who was at risk with his power. It was anyone he happened to get upset with. And that... that could be the case with anyone right back at him. He’d learned the basics of the Unspoken Rules, one of which was essentially “don’t fuck with people’s real identity”, but if somebody came along who decided they really liked not obeying those rules... if Mire had a moment and decided to hunt his family down...

He blinked a few times as the reality of how much danger his parents could be in hit him. From him. From another cape. Maybe from a disgruntled teammate, if they felt he’d slighted them. Hell, if he thought about it, it could be from some total rando on the street, too. Or a car accident, or...

‘...yeah, that is probably good,’ he mumbled, frowning slightly.

‘Hey, what’s up, sport? You doing okay?’ his dad asked, patting him lightly on the shoulder. He was very touchy-feely. Not in the bad way, but sometimes Chad would rather he wasn’t at all.

‘Yeah. I just... you know, you two are...’ He struggled to put the sentence together for a bit, but eventually managed to phrase himself: ‘Thanks for helping raise me, mom, dad. I think sometimes I don’t appreciate you enough, is all, so... you know. I love you guys.’

And there was the bear hug from dad. ‘Aww, you know we love you too, Chad,’ his mom replied, joining the hug more gently. ‘If there’s ever anything we can help with, you’re always free to tell us. Okay, sweetie?’

There was not anything they could help him with.

‘Okay. Thanks, mom.’

They broke the hug off, and with a slightly lighter heart, Chad kept on eating. He had school today, after all.
Legio

Three hours, Legio mused as he sat in his place. Even when he was rushing his work, Ualla could be terrifyingly slow to act. Inevitably, if this weren't such a crucial situation, he'd have insisted that all life should take millions of years to develop "naturally", as if that held some benefit over creating what had already existed. Legio respected the lifegiver greatly, for he was ultimately the origin of humanity, and so of Legio indirectly, but he sadly felt they had all the time in the world to act. That to truly appreciate something, it had to take aeons to occur. If Legio took as long as Ualla did to ferry the human race's ascendance to immortality, they would not have been half as advanced as they were by the start of the previous Roil.

Though his sentiment about who would lead in Sandrimor's place not turning into a war... well, that was admittedly a sensible enough suggestion. The throne room's lack of accoutrement was somehow deeper than the mere lack of physical decoration with the former King's passing; Legio could see a vision of Sandrimor coming in and taking his seat again as if everything were as it usually were, if he focused on the mental image, but he simply couldn't imagine this newborn mass of meat taking his place, couldn't imagine anyone else taking that seat and having things be better for humanity, save himself. He felt alone, at times, for it seemed only he truly saw a spark of possibility in them, in any mortal race at all.

And yet... if he gave up, they would be lost, as surely as the Roil's resurgence. He had to stay determined. Only then would the human race surpass its limitations.

In the meantime, he approached. Zetsibo. His eternal bane, and one of the core reasons humanity struggled so much in Legio's mind. At the very least, he had confirmed he wouldn't be seizing the throne, despite presumably knowing how it'd inflict despair upon so many if he did; whilst Legio would have to think very hard before denying himself such an option, he also knew Zetsibo could simply be lying to try and cause greater depression later on. And in truth, a pact might help limit Zetsibo's efforts to delay humanity's ascension... though it'd also keep Legio from interfering with his efforts to further the despair of many other races. But alas, if it meant humanity would become immortal this cycle - and in such a crucial era of change, it surely had to happen soon - then he would do his best to make it up to them. Humanity came first, though.

Before he could respond, along came Amp's enraging remark. A secondary annoyance to the progress-crushing ambitions of Zetsibo, for ultimately her domains limited her far more so than Zetsibo's, but infuriating in her own unique way; he'd smelt her lack of concentration already, heard and prompty ignored her commentary on the King's "glorified title", but to hear her claim he called atrocities upon those he sought to immortalise? And the "crusade" he'd called had been upon a race threatening to wipe humanity out entirely! And he knew she was no fool, at that. She was well-aware that her comments were as insulting to him as she was to humanity as a whole; she was just seeking a reaction from him; he would not fall for it.

...then he struck upon a bright idea. Both a retort and a restraint. Oh, but that'd be perfect.

'Well, Amp, if it is a crusade you wish to avoid, then I imagine you'll want to join this meeting,' Legio proposed, gesturing for her to follow him into Zetsibo's realm of despair and, temporarily, discussion. 'After all, I wouldn't wish to rile you enough that you seek to rend the mortals I govern asunder, and I'm sure you'd prefer to avoid that I do any such thing to your worshippers too.' An excellent trap: she'd be bound by the same terms and Legio and Zetsibo if she joined them and agreed to that pact, whereas if she denied this meeting now, and then sought to destroy his humans, he essentially had free reign to seek her destruction later. She had been offered peace now, in view of all other deities that had awakened as of yet, and so would implicitly seek destruction if she went on to harm his people, with or without agreeing to the terms laid out there. Legio surely couldn't lose in this exchange.
