Alisa jumped away from the electric eel as its current rippled through the water. It was reflexive, but she ground her teeth anyways. Hopefully, there were no more of those in there. She followed Zach and Daphne into the expansive aquarium complex, where there were six soldiers trying to free the animals inside. They turned to the three young superheroes, shouting in alarm, before rushing at them.

Okay, Alisa, this is kind of what you’ve trained for… you’ve got this!

While Zach fought off two with flamboyant spells and Daphne used her plant abilities on another two, Alisa aimed her hand at the guy shooting at her with a pistol and fired her hand cannon. The recoil knocked her back a bit, but the actual bright blue blast knocked the Deluge soldier into the wall hard, taking him out of the count. Alisa then turned, shocked by the power of her own invention, only to see the sixth soldier within feet of her. Too close to use her cannon.

He closed in before Alisa could do much but scramble for purchase. He grabbed her leg from underneath her and pulled, taking her off balance. But he didn’t take into account how heavy she would be, and Alisa kicked him off and then kicked his head in as hard as she could. Then, as he reeled, she punched in the head and knocked him out cold.

“Yup, got it! I think we’re done- wait, Daphne, watch out!”

I feel like Netflix makes some awesome cartoons. A lot of the cable networks these days just make really, really shitty cartoons. Looking at you, Cartoon Network. Some of my favorites in the last couple of years have been She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Carmen Sandiego, and The Dragon Prince. I've also been getting into Young Justice thanks to a couple of persistent RPers here and I really enjoy it!

Steven Universe was also really good seasons 2-4 (or 5?).

In the following minutes after the squid attack, shock turned to anger turned to bright-red fury. As Alisa sat in her seat once again, her lips pursed to a fine line, she wondered how some people were just so stupid. Dr. Bingley- stupid. Viktor, her maybe-best-friend- stupid and stubborn and unfeeling. How could he be more steel than her, the girl made of it? She found herself getting angrier as she watched him walk back to his seat, utterly unperturbed by Kassy’s silent haranguing. It hadn’t been him who had fired the shot, she knew- but he would have, and was only taking the blame for it in pursuit of the mission goal. The mission. Alisa could have strangled Dr. Bingley right then and there, if she hadn’t been on a mission. She hated people like him- curious without thought of harm, weak and simpering until they had a chance to do something awful and took it.

He reminded her a bit of her mother and the people who had helped make her, she realized. That hit her harder than she expected.

Viktor’s overheard conversation with Daphne made her even angrier. Alisa sat and listened silently, not acknowledging that she was hearing a thing. Daphne and she had spoken about their similar origins a bit ago, and she knew what it felt like to be an object of fascination. Of study. He had contacted her father? Without even asking Daphne first? If he had done that to her… if she were less competent, he might have.

Listening to Dr. Bingley’s speech just made her hate him more. Although Alisa didn’t entirely get magic, she understood enough to know that that was eugenics, and definitely not okay. Zach leaned in to say something to her, and she found herself nodding. “It bothers me too,” she whispered back. “This guy is such a prick.”

Then, the next disaster happened. Alisa wasn’t entirely sure what the Deluge was, but they needed to go reinforce the aquarium. Ugh. Underwater fighting wasn’t Alisa’s expertise. She was with Daphne and Zach- a good group. She swam over to Daphne with Zach. “Looks like we need to get going to the aquarium. We’re gonna do great.” She wasn’t sure if she meant it or not, but her voice didn’t betray much insecurity. She smiled from beneath her helmet.

Alisa pursed her lips. Her eyebrow twitched. If there was one thing she hated, it was being told she was wrong. And Viktor had effectively just called her stupid. But Alisa knew she was right. Kassy made the right call, and he was just trying to make some idiotic power play. She turned into the private channel again, readying a scathing remark, when there started to be frantic chatter on the main channel. She switched and her eyes widened at the news. Fuck.

Practically dashing back into the main room, Alisa came up on the opposite side of Talon. She gave Dr. Bingley a shoulder squeeze as she walked by, almost as an afterthought- which it was. For a moment, she stared out the window, stunned by what she saw. Ja seemed to be unconscious and drowning, while Daphne had taken off her suit and turned into a plant. “I-” She tried to talk, but found that she had no words. How did every mission end up going wrong?

“Talon. Don’t fire until Mirage gives the order,” she finally managed to say, fully aware of Viktor’s derisive glare. The scene was still developing outside. An illusory giant squid was forming beside Zach. She wasn’t entirely sure what it was meant to do, but… good idea? “See? That could work.” Then, Alisa again turned into the main channel. “Cybergirl to Team. What do you need us to do?”

Alisa patted Dr. Bingley’s arm comfortingly. “Of course they can,” she assured him. “A giant squid is a piece of cake for us- trust me.” In truth, Alisa wasn’t so assured about the team’s ability in an underwater fight like this. This was only their second real battle, and she wasn’t even involved. She, however, was much more sure of its outcome than Viktor seemed to be. She listened to his conversation with Talon and knitted her brows, letting out a miniscule sigh. Seriously?

“Hmm… Dr. Bingley, excuse me, I have an emergency. I need to… go to the bathroom. And, um. Expel waste. I’ll be right back.” It was an awful lie, but it worked. She wasn’t even sure there was a bathroom in the sub, but it usually worked as a good excuse for everyone else. Alisa went to the back of the submarine and switched her earpiece to a private channel with Viktor. Luckily, she could still hear their conversation from where she was standing.

Alisa whispered into her earpiece, “Cybergirl to Rain. Chill out and lay off Talon and Mirage. And maybe… I don’t know, using a submarine weapon on a massive squid when we’re supposed to be moving covertly in Atlantean waters is not the best idea? Erm. Over.”

Dr. Bingley was… interesting. He was like a lot of men Alisa knew. The eclectic scientist type: distracted, probing, a bit awkward. She didn’t find it charming. Although the questions weren’t pointed at her for once- they were pointed at the other girls. He either didn’t know she was a robot or wasn’t interested in robots. Which was fine. But it was strange to not be the object of fascination, the oddity in the room. Alisa guessed that happened when you were in the company of aliens and mermaids and plant women, but it didn’t mean that it wasn’t strange. Kassy and Aleen’a both seemed happy enough to answer his questions, but Daphne looked uncomfortable. Alisa knew why and found herself shifting closer to the other girl almost protectively.

She was about to say a word of sympathy to Daphne when she said something to Viktor instead. An interesting conversation, but Alisa wasn’t going to eavesdrop- visibly, at least. She backed off, but was still listening.

All of sudden, the submarine turned dark. There was a bump, a shaking. “What’s going on?” Alisa unbuckled her seat and stood, rushing to the window with Kila, peering out. She saw a little better in the dark than him, but she still pressed her face against the glass, cupping her hands around her eyes to see a bit better. “All I see are… tentacles.” Shivers ran down her back. The ocean was a nightmare. “Kassy, are you okay out there? What’s going on?”
Working on a CS.
I’ve had a character in progress for the archduke of the Wildwoods for a few days now, but I don’t know if the GM considers that to be a reservation?
