This is a completely original, custom narrative universe loosely inspired by official works. It will have a much larger focus on realism than the various shows had, and while some pre-existing characters and locations may be present, they will be heavily reworked for this continuity.
It will start off fairly similar to MMPR -- five teenagers living in Angel Grove -- which we'll say is a suburb of Los Angeles -- find themselves gifted with seemingly "magical" powers. However, instead of spandex outfits, their suits are made of nanotech similar to Iron Man's in Infinity War/Endgame. When deactivated, the suit compresses itself into a small capsule that the Rangers clip to their belt. When they need to power up, each Ranger programs in their own command phrase, which awakens the suit and causes it to expand and encase their body.
So, I am looking for five co-writers to each write one Ranger, and I will write a sixth one to be their leader. This leader already has some experience, having discovered the six suits while on Summer vacation. After he returns to Angel Grove to start his senior year of high school, he begins seeking potential worthy bearers for the other five suits, some of whom he may have pre-existing friendships with.
In this version, Zordon is an AI similar to Ultron, but he is very kind and wise. As for the history behind him, we'll say that Zordon used to run a fleet of research vessels for an ancient alien galactic federation, but his memory cores were severely damaged, so he doesn't recall much about his creators or his original mission. What he does remember is that, at some point, his central operating system was isolated to a single ship, cutting him off from the rest of the network. That ship then crashed onto Earth many centuries ago, where Zordon watched over his seven crewmembers, who were trapped in cryogenic stasis due to a computer malfunction.
Zordon's memory of everything that led up to that point are hazy at best, he just remembers being severed off from the rest of his network during a long flight in which his crew was in stasis, crashed onto Earth, and then a computer malfunction prevented him from awakening them. The best he could do was to cloak the ship, hide it underwater, and try to reboot and repair his severely damaged neural pathways. Eventually, he was able to release the crew, but they discovered their nanosuits had been wiped of their stored powersets.
One of the main abilities of these nanosuits was to scan and replicate the natural capabilities of up to three different lifeforms, giving each Ranger a Chimera-type powerset. And upon leaving the ship and searching Earth for new animals to scan, they came upon the sight of a family of dragons attacking a small European village. And so that became the first animal for all seven Rangers -- the Dragon. After that, each Ranger chose different animals for their second and third scan, so that each Ranger had a unique overall powerset. Once three animals have been scanned, the nanosuit cannot store any more unless it's memory is wiped again.
So, this team of seven Rangers became sort of like gods to the primitive humans of the time, guided by Zordon. Though eventually, Bandora -- the Purple Ranger -- turned against her team and become an evil sorceress; (Bandora was Rita Repulsa's name in the original Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger series). In the end, she and her new brainwashed army defeated the other six Rangers, but in one final act of defiance, they activated a secret joint killswitch Zordon had installed in the nanosuits when he first suspected some of them may be leaning to the dark side. In doing so, the six Rangers sacrificed their lives in order to destroy Bandora, since a malfunction prevented Zordon from activating just one killswitch - all seven suits had to be in active use, and they all had to be triggered simultaneously. Thus, the other six decided to make the ultimate sacrifice to save Earth.
Afterwards, Bandora's brainwashed army was set free, and Zordon inhabited a droid to give his fallen allies a proper burial. He then returned the nanosuits to capsule form, placing Bandora's in a separate, sealed container so he didn't have to look at it. He placed the other six on a sort of alter in the Command Center of the ship, cloaked it once more, and then hid it in Antarctica, where he hoped no one would ever find it again. He then drifted into stasis, remaining inactive for centuries.
Unbeknownst to him, however, Bandora had made some alterations to her nanosuit, adding a second memory drive in which she could store her consciousness in the event of physical death. But since Zordon had hidden her suit away, he never noticed this. This allowed her ample time to rebuild her mind within the drive and begin laying the groundwork for new neural pathways. The only thing she was missing was a new living host to siphon life energy from, who she could then possess permanently as her new body.
Fast forward to modern day, and my character is on a Summer trip to Antarctica with his scientist uncle. After a series of rare earthquakes in the area, the ship pops out of the ice and into the water, but my character is the only one to see it. The event awakens Zordon, and he uses his droid body to go see what happened, and meets my character. He thinks this must be an alien form of some kind, and agrees to help him hide from the scientists, knowing they will dissect the droid.
Eventually, they make it back to the ship, and Zordon is able to repair the malfunctioning cloaking device. He also scans my character's mind to learn how Earth has changed, learning modern English in the process. Impressed with the inner hero he sees, Zordon grants him a nanosuit, and he becomes the Green Ranger (yes, I'm using Green instead of Red for the team leader). The three animals stored in the suit by the previous owner are the Dragon, the Sylph, and the Cheetah. This gives him the ability to use green-colored dragonfire, fly and command airbending-like powers, and run at superhuman speeds.
For the five characters created by co-writers, feel free to choose the other two animals besides the Dragon. The reason Zordon is deciding to find new hosts for the suits is because he has now discovered what Bandora is up to, picking up strange energy readings from her storage container. Before he can do anything, though, she manages to hack into one of the stored droid bodies, grab her capsule, and flee the ship. So now Zordon is determined to stop Bandora before she can wreak havoc once again.
