Look at you posers, having to bang dragons or sell your soul for magic when you could just play a lute for some. Anyways, here's Wonderwall. - Bards
@Dark Cloud You absolute, triple posting, necromancing, burnt toast of a warm, wet napkin. I told you I was going to come back to this later
Well, guess its out of the bag now and anyone whose still subscribed to this (for whatever reason) or sees this and is interested, throw it in here! If there's at least 3/4 people I'll draw up a new thread to start fresh in lol.
This RP will be taking place on the world of Kordial Secundus, an Imperial Hive World of some 70 Billion people, and more specifically within Hive Proxima, second largest hive on the planet with some 12 billion people living within its cramped walls. Taking insperations from Necromunda: Hired Gun and Necromunda: Underhive Wars, the plot of the RP is fairly straight forward, you will be playing as the gangers, mercenaries, outlaws and other ne'er-do-wells living in the Underhive who have been compelled to work together by an external force in order to apply your ruthless skills and criminal trades for the promise of money.
Although the lore of 40k is vast and expansive, its NOT REQUIRED to know a lot about it. In fact, it might be more in character for you to not know the finer points and details about the universe as Hive Cities aren't exactly known for stellar education and worldlyness, the Underhive even less so. Anything that your character will be required to know will be told to you. If you want a quick summary of what a Hive World/City is, they are giant mountains of metal, industry, pollution, overcrowding and human misery. If you want a 2 hour audio book-like description of the lore, I'd recommend this video.
If you want an idea of what the aesthetics of this RP will be, think neo-medieval gothic cyberpunk. Augmentations and bionics go side by side with guilds taking the role of megacorps and the gang violence, dystopian city and transhumanism kicked up to 11.
The Imperium of Man - The largest, star-spanning empire ever created in the history of humanity, ruling over billions of worlds and untold quadrillions of souls. It however is the darkest dystopia every brought to fruition in ways beyond description, just know that what most people would consider "middle class" today, the Imperium would consider "luxuriously wealthy", especially on Hive Worlds. It stands besieged on all sides, from within and without, but has managed to stay standing for the past 10,000 years by momentum and monstrous (or "noble" depending on who you ask) sacrifice of untold trillions.
The Cult of the Emperor - The state religion of the Imperium who worships the Emperor as the Divine Master of Mankind which preaches that traitors, heretics and subverters could be anywhere and that the Emperor demands the ultimate submission and sacrifice of all his worshipers, enforced by fanatical priests. Think of the Catholic Church but in space but they decided that Jesus's message of peace and love was stupid and thought that "all heretics must die" was a better belief. Phrases like "For the Emperor!" and "The Emperor Protects!" are common from the faithful. On Kordial, there are no major noticeable local difference from the astral orthodoxy.
Hive Worlds/Cities - Hives are huge man made mountains where billions of people are forced to live in conditions that would make modern poverty look comfortable. They are cities built on top of other cities, each level going down is more polluted and dangerous than the last, with hundreds or even thousands of individual levels. The highest peaks of the Hive can often reach into a planet's stratosphere and is called the Hive Spires, where the ultra rich and nobility lives in comfort, luxury, hedonism and politicking so brutal and intense it makes Game of Thrones look like a children's show about peace and cooperation. Most food in the Hive is recycled nutrient gruel, nutrient paste smashed from whatever foodstuffs gets imported from off-world and the ever presence corpse starch which is basically soylent green but everyone knows what its made of and just accepts it.
Adeptus Arbites - Judge Dredd. No really, they're literally all Judge Dredds who are responsible for carrying out the law and are a specialized division of the Imperial government (the Adeptus Terra). In reality, full proper Arbites are rare and you might only ever get a handful or less on even a Hive World. Most active, day to day policing and riot suppression is done by local law enforcement working under the Arbites. But think of them less of a police force and more of an actual military force (they make US law enforcement look underequipped by comparison); every so often they will attempt an incursion into the Underhive to try and root out the worst heretic cults and gang leaders. This is less of a SWAT raid and more of a full on military invasion to rival Operation Desert Storm or Stalingrad if they were a magnitude of order bigger.
The Underhive - The depths of the Hive that make the stuff above look pleasant to live in. It is full of the absolute poorest wretches and filled with abandoned manufactorums, hab-blocks, arcologies, cathedrals and other super sized buildings. This is where the light of the Emperor (and the influence of the law) is at its weakest and thus filled with hyper violent gangs, dangerous heretical cults, degenerate mutants, long forgotten monsters and other miscreants trying to hide away from the rest of society. The lower levels are so full of trash and pollution that they're practically unlivable despite potentially containing lost, ancient treasures the further down you go. Incidentally its where most if not all of this RP will be taking place in.
Before nerds start yelling at me, this isn't supposed to be detailed or even complete. Its just supposed to be enough for a brief overview of what's happening.
(Also have ideas on how to turn this into an NRP but that's for a later date.)
@Guccicorn Unfortunately I don't think there's going to be enough interest for me to really continue this in any serious capacity. Sorry but I'm closing down, although you could argue it never even really took off.
@InsertANameHere I think just about everyone in the RP knows that. I also think the general idea is to keep a standard medieval/D&D fantasy-esque feel and while you can argue guns are medieval, for roleplaying they just open up a whole can of worms and have a 50/50 shot of introducing gunpowder dick measuring contests. With strictly medieval level tech things are more "even".
There's also the issue of magic in that magic can do what guns irl can. Want to instantly kill that armored knight? Fire balls work just as well as musket balls.
None of us know how we ended up here, last thing we can remember was going into a Walmart and then... never coming out. At some point we just lost track of where we were and once we looked back, the aisles just kept going on and on forever and we couldn't retrace our steps.
Now we are trapped in here, this endless hellish monument to Sam Walton and the worst part is, we aren't alone. When the lights go out the "Staff" come out. Human-ish things that never have the right proportions and no faces, screaming for us to go to the nearest exist and leave the store since its now closing. Only trouble is we have no idea where that damn place is and the Staff are more than happy to try and rip us apart instead. Of course if you're really unlucky you might get dragged off to a Staff Room and get turned into a "Smiler". Don't know what the hell happens in the Staff Room but everyone who comes out is all wrong and twitchy and has this creepy big yellow smiley face on them and work with the Staff to make our lives hells. And that's to say nothing of the huge, eldritch "Sales Monsters" that come out during a Sale Day...
Still, we are stubborn bastards. There's enough of us in here to have created little fortified settlements with proper walls and there's enough junk laying around for us to make weapons and armor among other things. And at least the Staff sometimes restock the shelves during the day light when they aren't hostile so we don't all starve to death. Even if they typically only restock before a Sale Day. Honestly if you replaced the creepy monsters with zombies it'd be pretty normal post apocalyptic environment but honestly, that's a cold comfort to most of us. We don't know how long we've been stuck in here, some of us months, others years. We just hope that the outside world hasn't forgotten us in here...
Welcome to Wal-World!
This is pretty much an RP set in the SCP 3008/Infinite IKEA setting, only instead of IKEA is a Walmart, mostly because Walmart sells a lot more stuff than IKEA meaning there's more things to use, play with and build from. Staff are pretty much the same, only in Walmart uniforms. Smilers look like Sammy from Bendy and the Ink Machine only with the addition of a blue apron and a yellow smiling mask. Sale Day Monsters look like a mix of Lovecraftian Bloodborne bosses and Dead Space Necromorphs, made up of multiple Smilers and Staff fused together into an unholy abomination.
As for the RP itself, it is still up in the air between just "try to get out" or "stay and help a settlement grow" plots. Or perhaps something else.
Store Regulations
> Standard Guild rules apply, don't be an idiot. > No godmodding or puppeting other people's characters unless they give you permission. > No pulling a random gun out of your pocket. Everyone starts with nothing except what they'd enter a Walmart with. (Keys, wallet, etc.) > Be nice to people, keep your beef somewhere else. > No posting requirements but every post should either progress something forward or expand on a detail. Do not make short, static posts.
Walmart+ Membership Registration
I'm hoping for a quicker, more condensed character sheet guide. The following is the requirements your sheet must have. You can write more if you want. Remember this should all be pre-Walmart isekai. They either have no idea how they ended up in the Wal World, just sort of waking up, or last remember being in a Walmart and wandering into a more deserted section before getting hopelessly loss.
NAME: <Self Explanatory> AGE: <Try not to all be dystopian YA novel protagonists > LOOKS: <Please use drawn pictures over anime or real photos. Can also be a written description> TRAITS: <List of major personality traits they either embody, have or aspire to> EVENTS: <List of major life events that have influenced and shaped them> SKILLS: <List of notable/applicable skills they have, older PCs can have more skills & be more proficient in them>
NAME: Allen Tsong AGE: 31 LOOKS: An Asian male entering just entering middle age. Tall, average build with smooth black hair, brown eyes and a stubble. Came into the Wal-World in business casual, grey polo shirt, khakis and sneakers. Lost his favorite jacket at some point after getting chased by Staff which he's a little bummed out about.
TRAITS: Allen values the ideas of persistence and looks up to being as efficient as possible, even though he is prone to bouts of laziness. He believes intrinsically in the value of teamwork and cooperation, and that empathy and kindness are great virtues. Known foe keeping a level head, Allen tries his best to be a stable anchor for everyone else, preferring stability and predictability over rashness and isn't keen on trying to "prove himself". He also prefers not to get his hands dirty, ideally using only traps or ranged weapons to fight rather than melee.
EVENTS: Allen was born to a Chinese father and an American mother, having grown up in an otherwise unremarkable suburb. After falling into a bad crowd during his teenaged years, he was pulled out with the help of a very sympathetic teacher who helped him get into university and a part time job at a warehouse. Although he initially went in for business, he failed most of his major courses and ended up switching over to psychology to become a therapist. The last thing he remembers is going into a Walmart to get office supplies and then getting lost.
SKILLS: A trained therapist, Allen's biggest skill is being able to apply his old life's skill in reassuring, inspiring and counselling others in the very alien and fairly traumatic environment they are in. Allen is also good at organizing and likes to keep charts and lists of supplies as well as labeling them. While not especially strong, he has excellent stamina meaning he can often outrun Smilers who chase him and sometimes outsmart the less intelligent Staff, making him a decent choice as a messenger between settlements or scout when paired up with someone.
