There was a pause in Arex's reply. He stared into nothingness as he concentrated and made sense of the words. In a soft voice came his mumbled reply. "Sh, Surely he is you, or you is he." Suddenly his head shakes and he sits up. Focus returns to the mans eyes. "I forget which one." He now looks over the alien creature as if seeing it for the first time with an unnerving curiosity and a hungry smile. "If you are not waiting to dance the strings of my corpse like a puppet, what are you doing here? Or are you already doing it?" he says a little more loudly with confidence. "Or are you already, am I already dead?" It was with a sincere curiosity he spoke. @Liaison
Arex never looked up from his guns. His fingers had run raw scraping across the the surface and digging into the tiny ditches that he now clearly, yet somehow blissfully unaware, was adding to the mess.
He shook his head and let a pause of silence build between them. "Tch, Tch, Tch." He eventually responded. "I'm alive." he informed no one in particular as he stopped polishing his gun with his own blood and leant back to examine his hard work. An odd smile ran across his lips. An expression caught between two worlds. Heaven and hell.
He looked up to the intruder. "Did you bring my whiskey?" He asked the tall creature curiously in a dry raspy voice as he looked up to meet its eyes. As he continued to speak a feint strain of desperation entered his voice. "Karnorouri, please tell me you have our whiskey!"
Arex had come to learn this of the natives. They had an unusually high fear and intolerance for the undead and anything alike, more than one would deem logically reasonable or rightfully so. They took no risks and went to great measures to prevent such things. They decapitated and bound their dead, burying them far deeper than any sane man would dare to dig. Fresh meat was left out and tethered to hooks and bells in some ritualistic superstition. Decrepit old spikes littered every wall and fence. Every measure conceivable was taken and Arex was sure their were many more.
With that though in mind, upon reflection he now understood their actions. It was a deep seeded true fear they had. He chuckled to himself as he considered his appearance. He couldn't even measure how long it had been since he last saw his reflection, showered or changed his clothes. He most probably looked like walking death or worse. He couldn't blame them for their actions but neither would he consider guilt for his.
This land had not been too kind to him. The eternal twilight and endless dunes turning his mind into a timeless prison. Between the long dull monotonous drudgery of shambling between far distant locations, where people creatures and nature waited to try kill, rob or eat him, he did feel like like he was truly dead. It was that space in between life threatening situations that he was forced to constantly return to, that maddening solitude dragging on seemingly forever between the scarce horrific encounters, that's where he left behind his waning sanity.
Arex whispered a broken tune to himself as he sat on a pile of carefully stacked corpses. His only possessions, his heavy guns, in hand. Long since before his arrival had he run out of ammunition. Yet still his guns remained responsible for the bodies on which he sat. Equally the bodies held the responsibility for the blood splatter and grime stained on the steel which Arex scrubbed at with great futility. Alone he sat cursing the dead and mumbling to himself. Surrounded only by a roofless shack who's walls were so damaged they now served little purpose but to mark what once was. The centrepiece of a shambled tiny temporary village. Built for a single family, now home to just one man.
“Arex, Seer of... Sand, Whose gaze does see no end to time, Sees not the fucking Doch Mol, Where eternal bullshit dare rise But the fables of Ez-Lye Where, by false words, fools come to die.'s.”
With the tides of battle quickly changing with the elemental ferocity of fire and ice, Xia saw no more glory to be gained here amongst these sorcerers, merely cleaning up their mess. She did what she did well and slipped into the ever looming shadows, instead focusing her attention on finding those that in light of recent events might no longer wish to be found. She would not let the enemy cowards flee or hide from what they had started. She began hunting and tracking in silence.
Arden was lost to the waves of commotion as some settlers fled and others bustled about in confusion. Instead of immediate evacuation many sought out friends, family or possessions, despite young Arden desperately urging them otherwise. As he tried to hurry them on with the others many stopped to help him thinking he was but a child in distress. It was frustrating and tiresome. The ambient panic, confusion and stress sank into him as he absorbed it like a sponge. He could feel the dense worry and fear that flooded the townsfolk. It prevented him from holding a clear thought as his head spun and ached profusely, he felt scattered beyond belief. Then suddenly it all amplified with the presence of orcs.
Truly caught up in the waves of commotion Arden fell victim to the overwhelming fear of the people. Protective bubble or not, as the townsfolk's thoughts finally aligned so too did Arden's and like the rest he began to scrabble and flee. Jostled about by many erratic scared people Arden soon found himself lost in the still silence of a distant alley way. Screams and shouts echoed from nearby but here the air was still. Smoke had darkened the thin line of sky and here alone, away from the commotion he found a calmness. Arden manage to find his thoughts and focus his trembling hands. He didn't know what to do. What could he do anyway?

Name: Arden Vale Gender: Male Age: 16 Appearance:
Bio: Born into a wealthy family line, Arden inherited great wealth at a very early age. After his families sudden and mysterious disappearance. With no siblings or other known relations he was considered the last of his families name. Estates, servants farmlands and small businesses all fell to him. Not a single painting was ever done of his parents which for a noble couple is quite unheard of. Arden holds only blurry faint memories of their appearance and trusts in the words of those that served them. Despite the heavy responsibilities they bestowed upon him, Arden was raised well in fine luxury by his servants who spoilt him. They did their best to tutor him in the affairs of business and finance but between their bias interest and his inexperience it slowly began to crumble.
Over the years as he grew, to no fault other than misfortunate and inexperience, his finances dwindled. Shortly after much of the inheritance was lost, through deceit and trickery he was duped out of the quickly dwindling resources before he could bring complete ruin to his families estate, which all the servants were eager to readily claim. Without realisation he suddenly became legally a boarder in his own home with nothing left to his name.
Things grew dark and quickly. Greed got the better of many of the once kind servers. Hostilities flared amongst themselves as a deep selfishness festered and grew within each and every one. Turning against one another the air was full of spite and backstabbing, theft and ransacking, and eventually murder. Arden's safe world came crashing down.
It was the kindest of them, the very servants who raised and betray him, that convinced him to join the Blood Rose Irregulars. Arming him with the fodder found from his parents collection he was gifted with a weapon, some armour, an old blank magic book and a small pouch of coins, all in aid to hasten his departure. It was no longer a safe place for him to stay. Very little was known of the history of these seemingly unused ornamental impulse buys or their true worth and value.
Arden set out in haste. He had never been out in the world on his own. When the estate had been in his name there was always a great deal of fuss and protection over his safety. He had thought it was because they cared, now he knew better. The world could be a cruel place and the coins didn't get him far enough. He was eventually mugged for his remaining possessions, left only with his tattered old, seemingly worthless empty book. It was then it spoke to him. It is unknown what awoken the tome, maybe time, Arden's helpless desperation, or perhaps the blood that trickled down his trembling hand. Irregardless, it's pages whispered to him the secrets to summon an imp. In the fall of night, a beaten and hungry beggar boy completed the summoning and took back his possessions from the corpses of the unprepared sleeping muggers.
He felt no guilt that day and continued on his journey. Keeping secret the events of that night. Soon he would be at the mercenary guild.
Fighting Style: Clumsy flailing, frantic desperation and blind hope. Inexperienced and untrained he is guided through combat purely by a degree of luck, intuition, reflexes and determination.
Equipment: Fine outfit and light armour. Sturdy ornate sword. Pet owl and an old magic tome.
The spell book appears empty to anyone other than a Vale. Even then only when they concentrate will the book reveal to them what it chooses to, which isn't always what the user was after. Hidden beneath the tough leather exterior, soul stones of unknown origin are imbedded firmly into the spine of the book.
These are not normal or simple spells that it holds but complex rituals that require dedication, resources, time and focus.
Hidden Spells
Summon imp Create flame
Skills/Abilities: An unnatural ability to spot, read and understand hidden, old and magical writings or languages. Able to cast dark magic from his ancient family tome.
Other Information: Unbeknown to Arden and most others, his lineage is long tainted with clandestine dealings both in hunting and worshiping dark spirits. Which side of this his parents fell on is unknown but is related to their abrupt and sudden disappearance.

arrived just in time to watch a fully grown heavily armoured knight get swatted through the air like a fly. It was a bleak reminder of the reality of the situation, still Xia didn't give it much thought. With screams and chaos still raging around her she slipped through the carnage like a whirling blade of death, never holding still and never losing momentum. She wasn't going to take on the ogre directly, not yet, instead focusing her efforts on the remaining rabble terrorising the locals. Alm would be alright for some time, he seemed to be confident and surging with magic.
The first one she was too late. An Orc was removing his axe from a fallen young mans back. As Xia passed the gruesome creature she whipped her spear around in a blurry flourish before following the momentum with a sharp spin. The Orc behind her collapsed to its knees as the muscles in its legs opened forth and began spilling blood from two large slashes. It would not die but became easy pickings for Freir who should be following close behind.
Xia didn't hesitate or slow, charging straight at an awaiting hungry Orc. The bloodlust in its sadistic eyes made her sick with anger. It easily parried against her oncoming lunge propelling the momentum of her polearm up over its head and meanwhile creating a large opening along its muscular side. A gap she quickly filled with her side arm. She used the full force of her weight behind the blade to puncture it deep into the leathery green skin of the surprised Orc. It went so deep that she had to forfeit the weapon or give up her momentum. Another gift for Freir.
The third Orc wasn't in her plan. Charging out of a nearby building, coated in fresh blood, it's wide heavy swing narrowly missed her as she evaded with a roll. As it readied itself to attack again Xia just kept moving, leaving the slow monster behind as she carried on to the hole in the wall. The ground suddenly shook as the ogre acted. More orcs took it as a call to swarm the entrance. With her glaive steady in one hand, the other got busy throwing out utilities as she continued to snake across the battlefield. Shuriken were hurtled at the ogre from a distance. Then more at an Orc about to engage a knight. Lastly a smoke screen was thrown up as three of her bombs went off around the make shift entrance, obscuring the vision of anyone or thing entering.
It was happening again, he was falling. Falling and falling endlessly into a pure consuming darkness. Panic stricken he was as he knew the ground, where ever it was, would be hastily encroaching. Filled with a fearful anticipation. At any second now it would rush to meet him. Any one of these passing moments could be his last. But a cold wind continued to rush violently over him and pull at his clothes as he tumbled out of control. He wanted so badly to scream for help! But he could't... He wanted so desperately to reach out and find aid! But his body wouldn't obey... He just kept tumbling, paralysed and waiting to die. Then, over the thunderous roar of passing deafening winds, he heard a voice. It stayed with him no matter how far he fell.
"... Arden, Sara, you three head to the East district and help out as you can. If they broke in on the west its only a matter of time until the same happens in the East."
It was Jing. Arden groggily opened his heavy eyes while trying to understand why they were no longer sleeping. He missed much else of what was said. He soon realised everyone else was already wide awake and arming themselves. 'An attack!?' Arden immediately thought to himself. 'Had they been followed?' Wiping the heavy sweat from his brow he frantically started to clumsily paw at his scattered possessions, trying to gather his things and ready his weapons and armour as quick as he could. Crumbling under the pressure, only further agitated by the ongoing commotion, Arden continued to fumble his straps, drop his sword and finally, trip over his bedding.
Eventually he exploded out the door and into the cool nights air. The Alarm bells rung even louder out here without the shelter of closed walls. Ruffled, panicked and confused Arden swung his head as he looked around, wide eyed surveying the scene. He caught a glimpse of Sara in the distance. Knowing only that he was supposed to be with her, he gave chase with all his might. Eventually catching her he continued to follow and obey her directions. Helping people anywhere he could all whilst trying to further understand the situation.
