Back on the ship:
Interacting with: @Adeline Genevieve

Kenji was too stubborn to share the burden of the supplies, and hobbled all the way back to the ship with them.
Apparently there was no time to head back to shore and visit a tavern, not that he minded, with an impromptu gathering being called shortly after returning.

Still standing gathered around those he arrived with, Kenji listened respectfully but with a faint air of disinterest. He did not share in the greed of the others, or if he did, he kept it hidden.
However, towards the end of the speech his shoulders noticeably slumped.

"Sneaking..." He mumbles to himself as he looks across the ship at the other gathered pirates, eyes weighing and judging each one heavily, looking down on them like an artist might an amateur.
"Stealing..."
He lets out a soft sigh of resignation. He knew he would be among that group.
"The unassailable..."
He turns to Genevieve.
"I think we may have needed more supplies."

While others cheered, gossiped, or threw around questions, Kenji shared none of their excitement and instead silently retreated below deck to finally sit down and rest.

"It only works on those who are foolish, ignorant, superstitious and guilty." He replies matter-of-factly, the hints of a small smile growing on his lips. "So yes, it works more often than not."

---

Kenji was taken aback and caught of guard by the sudden appearance and questions of two of his crew mates, at least one of which seemed to be a little on the inebriated side.

"I am not from China." Kenji scowled softly.
"And neither was my father."

His words were sharp and he glares at the two women only for but a moment before turning his gaze back to his path and the bustling street ahead.

Clearly looking like a man who had just been in a fight, bruised swollen cheek and the smudge of dry blood on the side of his face where he had been wiping it away, he let out a defeated sigh.

"News it seems, travels faster than the sea breeze. There was a bit of a misunderstanding. One that was settled with communication, -physical communication."

Hands still holding the supplies he continued his slow staggered walk back towards the ship.

"A sword kept sheathed is still a sword... But some men just need to see it drawn to believe it is there."
He adds to no one in particular, an after thought spoken aloud.
If you had made it aboard then you were already checked in. However, any of the many holographic interfaces -panels or AI concierges- offered the easy and readily available option for further services by human or machine depending on your preference.

The level of assistance also seemed adjustable, should you require a guide to show you around and check you into your room or merely wanted someone to carry your coat and follow silently at your heel. Any desire or need could be met aboard the luxurious cruiser. It was however, an unwritten rule amongst those in the know and the powers that be, that using the ships resources diminished the appearance of ones own power. Still, both could be seen moving around the place. Used by the unwary, uninitiated or simply the newer, lower echelons of high society.

But as the ship was for all kinds of people with all kinds of beliefs, certain sections of the ship prohibited the presence of either machines or nonessential servants. Be it for privacy or other reasons.
Normal expectations, behaviours and general social structures died upon the Starfire. Drowned out deep under the weight of excessive limitless wealth and lifestyles beholden to no planets law. All cultures and customs found their space on this vessel, it is what they paid for after all.

The only thing really guaranteed harmony and respect among the travellers, was the knowledge that one wrong move could expel them from the voyage. A wrong word to the wrong person could bring unimaginable ruin, financial and physical. There were people aboard this ship that could decided the fate of a planet with a simple signature. The type of people you didn't want to make an enemy of. People like Violet.

--

Amanda sent through a confirmation that she received and understood Violet's instructions. Nothing else was required.

The duo got a brief tour as they followed the bot to their designated rooms, travelators expediting any long hallway walks.
They passed entrances to casinos, shops, health and entertainment centres, and even an aquarium.
The simple to extravagant attire they had already seen continued throughout the ships decadent halls but they also glimpsed people integrated with tech that would be illegal on most other planets. Some simple enhancements, others ostentatious adaptions. People moved about solo, others in cliques. Some with an entourage, others a bodyguard. One person had a biologically enhanced canine following obediently at their side.

And for all the intriguing people and places that they had passed, they knew even more were hidden away.

The room is exactly as they expected or requested it be.

'Medical thread and bandages' It was clear to him that she didn't trust him with anything beyond the blatantly obvious, keeping the request painfully simple. But it was fair enough, he had given her no reason to think otherwise. Without saying a word, Kenji just gives her a slow nod and hobbles off down past a shelf, eyes musing over its wares. Finally he picks up a packet of sterile bandages and turns them over with a faint frown, letting the merchant see.

"Hm… these aren’t sealed as tightly as I’d expect. In my country, a patient’s family would take this as a sign of disrespect. We treat supplies as a reflection of the care we give — and the honour of the healer. My friend here? This will make her look like she is not serious."
It was clear to Genevieve that Kenji was suddenly vastly exaggerating his oriental accent and mannerisms.

Continuing on, leaning in with a quiet, regretful tone. "Now, if I return with supplies like this and tell my people I paid full price? They will think I don’t value her skill… or their health. That would shame both of us and misfortune would follow us all... You do not want that do you?"

He straightens, giving a thin smile. "So… perhaps you help me save some face, and I’ll tell everyone you are the only merchant in the city worth trusting with a healer’s honour."

He pulls a silken cloth from his pocket, clean compared to everything else around, neat lines marking an exotic character on it.

"And for that." He nods to the supplies Genevieve was picking up."I'll even add in this." He lays down the fabric carefully and neatly unfurls it. Treating it with the utmost dignity and respect. "From the artisans of Kyoto… one of a kind. The Emperor himself wears such silk. This symbol keeps away malevolent spirits." He looks around the merchant like he can see something the man cannot. Nodding knowingly. "You must have it. It will fix your fortune. Some spirits blame the doctor, some blame the seller of supplies." He gives a small shrug like it was all a minor frivolity.

"Hang it up with the symbol on display and not only will it cleanse your shop, but my people will know that this is a good place to shop." He clasps both his hands together and gives a deep bow to the shop keeper. Sealing the trade without giving the man much say.

He tried to hurry Genevieve, who hadn't even needed to touch her own coins, out of the shop before the merchant could change his mind. Leaving him at the counter examining the cloth and looking around for evil spirits.

@Varicke

And he would be right, patrons did not look up, bystanders did not notice the shadow slinking over the walls, and the large, rugged man didn't notice the creature in the darkness. Be it the drink in his hand or the focus of his gaze, he was oblivious to all other happenings around him.

Not everyone was as dull sensed as him though. There was one thing the tavern owner had come to rely on of humans-that they were unreliable.
Shadow imps on the other hand. Once bound to a duty, they would fulfil it.

Thats why one of the little, flying, disproportionally big headed, waiters came flapping down to the table interrupting the man who was still trying and failing to get the woman's attention. It ignored him because he already held a drink and instead looked up directly at the lurking shadow, pale white empty eyes staring directly at him.

"Would you like anything?" It did not speak verbally but the soft intention resonated in Knutik's mind.

Arriving at the mask station at the same time as Violet and Darya was a tall slender woman with thick wavy auburn hair. Her modest curves testing the craftsmanship of the luxurious silken dark red dress she wore. Brilliant hues of gold and purple rippled through the fabric that revealed more skin than it concealed. Expensive golden jewellery adorned her exposed flesh, red gems to match her attire, so bulky and excessive its only purpose to flaunt her wealth.

With an ease of familiarity she placed three slender fingers down onto previously unnoticed panels. There was a faint hum and a small flash of light and as she lift her hand, on each soft finger tip was a near translucent flexible chip.

"Required. No, and with a face like that hun, I wouldn't hide it if I were you. That is of course unless you er planning to get up to a little mischief later on."

Her voice was not as smooth or sweet as her appearance and held a tint of outer-world inflection. As she spoke she placed each soft chip around her head. The first her forehead, the second her temple and the third her throat.

She gave a cheeky wink and then suddenly a white mask materialised over her face, a hologram, a rabbit, complete with a button nose and tall ears. It concealed all but her green eyes and full red lips, just like a physical mask might. Except, as she gave Darya a playful smile, the ears responded by twitching along happily.

"If you, uh, get let off your leash any time. Well, just you follow the white rabbit."

Meanwhile, Violet's HUD was not giving her good news. The Mishima Motors partnership, what should have been a simple and easy deal previously settled, was now being further postponed, by a whole month. This setback was going to impact a string of time sensitive plans and projects causing a cascade of delays and costs.

But the HUD could only relay so much information, and soon, once the doors all closed, the ability to communicate off-ship would become limited and undoubtedly monitored. If Violet wanted to get to the bottom of this, she would have to act soon.
