@Hexaflexagon Just want to give a headsup that the second image linked doesn't work -- font meme?
I am definitely looking to throw my hat into the ring for this RP.
@pugbutter Yeah I find a good place to get character art is from LARPs/reenactment/amateur cosplay or even middle popularity musicians dressing up for what they do (i.e. the band dArtagnan). You get real people often dressed up for what you want of them, but they're not models or some shit. Art is generally supposed to be pretty but you know most of the time it's not representative of what people actually look like so any vaguely realistic RP will have trouble making use of art when you're trying to imagine a scene in your head anyway.

I mean I am roleplaying because I like to play out a role I enjoy, and sometimes that means being a pretty guy who can also kill shit really good.

If I wanted to live out a realistic version of medieval life, I'd probably join a reenactment group and not spend my days writing fiction on the internet. If you're just looking for realism why not just... do research and read about the topic.

To each their own but I can 100% understand why people prefer to play pretty people most of the time. Similarly, a lot of movies feature pretty people.
Hi there, can I have everything I posted from June 20th 2014 to May 30th 2015 wiped? My apologies if I'm setting anyone a task, I just don't have any interest in retaining some old work and have it linger over me. I'd have done it myself, but there isn't a delete button, and old posts don't seem to allow edits.

Cheers.

If you are that worried about old work, make a new account?
To be entirely honest, why would I play an ugly bastard when I can play a really handsome dude? Live out the things you can't in real life, right? ... right?
@Raxacoricofallapatorius I tend to play males but generally not around my own age. The problem is, a lot of the time I don't get a chance to play females. Either the RP is already female-sided, or the partner wants me to play a male, or I just happen to feel like playing a male more. Ethnic diversity is.. hard for me, because of the way people often want me to portray certain ethnicities.

"Can you play a black man?"

"Of course!"

"... but like, a stereotypical BBC ghetto gangsta?"

"No thanks."
I think that as people grow as writers, they grow the diversity in the cast as a general rule of thumb. Unfortunately not always true. It irks me the most in 2 instances: when I am GMing an RP or when I look at faceclaims.

First of all because when I am GMing I'm forced to read all the CS's in depth and review them and the type of RP's I tend to run (Naruto) tends to invite a certain type of people that create certain types of characters. TL;DR all characters are orphans, edgy and introverted to the point of asocial disorders but they're nice deep inside. Yawn.

Second, everyone uses a fucking standard white guy/white girl faceclaim or in terms of digital art, the same 3 pieces of artwork that anyone can find when they type in certain keywords.

How many times have you seen this redhead piece of shit staring back at you with that emotionless face? Fucking exactly.

I'd like to see more ethnic variation, more background variation, and less edgy protagonist backstories.
Bump.
Quantity =/= quality is a weak argument in my eyes because;

  • Quality in writing is subjective - this makes this a cop out answer. A lot of roleplaying writers, here and elsewhere, think their writing is god-tier awesome when really it's shit tier quality fanfic selfservice.
  • Quantity is not inherently linked with quality but more often than not qualitatively great posts have a larger quantity of information (and therefore, higher quantity of words) than low quality post -- there is certainly a link between the two.
  • Writing is not about quality, writing is not about quantity, writing is about how much you enjoy writing the post, and roleplaying is about how much you enjoy writing the post and how much others enjoy reading your post. If you are content reading one liners until 5 am in the morning then I'd say that the roleplay hits the perfect spot for you. Personally I can't do that because it doesn't interest me. It's not a quality I look for in a roleplay.
  • Subjective and personal take that come from my own experience (i.e. anecdotes) but the people who put QUALITY IS NOT QUANTITY REEE at the top of their interest check are also often the same people who write a small paragraph that parrots exactly what your post said without adding anything new to it. Quality =/= quantity, sure, but your post has neither. I'd rather read purple prose than a rehash of what I already wrote for you.
