I don't think Matuna will accept someone giving him the ability to read, he is too proud for it and will want to learn it himself, the whole syllable thing is a different matter because it's something all Trolls naturally struggle with and can't completely overcome without magic.

We have a TON of libraries.
There is a library for every school of magic, the libraries of varying size depending on how much is known about said school. Planar Sorcery, for example, is probably only a few old bookcases. The Alteration Library, on the other hand, is practically a building all it's own.
There is also a library on each species, each nation, a library on the gods, a library on demons, and finally a library on general knowledge.
That's practically one on each floor
In that case don't be surprised if you see a Troll reading the simplest books you have in order to learn your Alphabet

Matuna figured he was getting close to the Tower, as he felt powerful energy radiating form somewhere. Of course he didn't expect a warm welcome, but he only saw the in his mind inevitable fight as a chance to test his worthiness of entering and even looked forward to it a bit. Of course he had non intention of giving up on his goal until he either succeeded or died trying, and since the Tower was in a forest he had no reason to worry about food or water.
However when he arrived at his destination he found that there was no one waiting for him. Determined to make a grand entrance anyway, he swung his great sword planning to destroy the wooden door. However before the swing was completed he stopped his attack, the blade now in front of a servant's face. Without even blinking the servant pushed the sword out of his face, only showing surprise when he noticed the hideous creature it belonged to. The servant quickly regained his composure though. "I guess you didn't receive an invitation. Oh well the fact that the Tower informed me of your presence means you're welcome anyway."
"You're right no note was sent to me." Matuna answered both glad that he got in and disappointed that he got no chance to show his skills off. "If you don't mind me asking was schools do you specialize in? The servant asked, while opening the other door for the visitor. "I use Fight Spells and I See Far." The Troll answered.
The servant asked no further questions as he showed Matuna to his room which turned out to be better than he expected. There was a sharpening stone, a rack for his weapon, a bed that while more comfortable than the stone floor wasn't too soft in his opinion (meaning there was no mattress or pillow) and it had thick enough curtains that he could make the entire place dark to practice Mysticism at any time of day.

I still claim that Mystics are the best EVAH, and there is nothing you inferior wizards may do to change my mind.
A compromise then, Planar Scholars are the best at hiding while Mystics are the best at finding, which is the most important part of the game as we all know.
The first post is definitely not bad, and I'm guessing Familykiller McSilverblade is at least a high ranking member of the Witchhunters if not their leader.
Also in case you wondering about Matuna's speech pattern Trolls have difficulty with words with than one syllable unless they"re speaking their their own language, meaning that he can't pronounce letter, combat, magic, or Far-seeing but can tell you his name.

So I'm guessing the Prince's plan is to turn our characters all powerful mages in their own right into his loyal followers.
@SepticGentleman Don't forget your character can also practice on the corpses of Witchhunters.
@Cyclone In Matuna's case his type of Alteration changes the user's body for direct combat like increasing strength, hardening the skin for defense, making limbs longer to increase the attackrange or to become faster
