Who doesn't love a hedonist? Particularly a hedonist with magical pheromone powers. Glad to be aboard. I'll try to keep the ripping-off-Inara-from-Firefly to a minimum...

... but no promises...

It is called Microsoft Word and my brain. ;)

I guess you just don't love your characters enough for that personal touch...
<Snipped quote by Fallenreaper>

You have handwritten notes?

You don't? Filthy casual.
Not that I mind, but I would've liked to have been included. I do already have a serum mentioned in the IC and the company is owned by Ms. Jacqueline Freeman, and there's also details you might want to know.

Honestly, I literally just copied and pasted my old application from two years ago, so it wasn't a conscious decision to leave you out or anything. I'd love to hear about what I missed, though. PM me?
I like the new OP. Cleaner.

Also, I posted Mantis' CS to the Character tab. Neat new feature since my last stay at RPG, I like it.
Create a Hero RPG Application

Character you have created: Sean Abbott
Alias: Mantis

Character Alignment: Hero

Identity: Secret

Character Personality: Sean is an ordinary 18/19 year-old kid thrown into an extraordinary situation. As Sean, he's kind and loyal. He's not an exceptional student, but he takes his education seriously. He has little trouble making friends, although he prefers to maintain close relationships with a small handful of people rather than being the life of the party. Sean, like most people his age, is unsure of himself at times, unsure of what he wants in life, and unsure of the future. He always strives to do what's right. As Mantis, Sean is witty and boisterous. The anonymity of his secret identity coupled with the sense of power gives Sean a cocky confidence that he never had. He wants to do right by other people by using his powers for the benefit of as many people in need as he can.

Uniform/Costume:

Origin Info/Details: Sean's life was, by all accounts, normal and uneventful. He had just started his first year of college. He was dealing with unresolved feelings after breaking up with his high school sweetheart. He was starting a new romance with a friend of a friend, all the while trying to juggle college coursework and a part-time job at Tons of Buns. Then, one fateful day, Sean crossed paths with a desperate scientist in the middle of Central Station on his way back to Lost Haven University.

The scientist worked for a shady corporation called Gene.Co, where he had been part of a team developing a strain of DNA Recombinant serums designed to create new metahumans. The scientist realized how Gene.Co intended to use the completed serums, and thus he stole it. Seeing an opportunity, the scientist dumped the serum vial into Sean's half-opened backpack to keep it out of Gene.Co's hands. When Sean got back to his room, he cut his hand on a shard of broken glass, and some of the serum got into his blood.

The serum altered Sean's DNA, giving him an array of bug-like superpowers. Scared and confused, Sean sought out a metahuman specialist named Dr. Milton Reed. Dr. Reed explained to Sean that the changes were permanent, although he believed that he might be able to generate an antiserum. Dr. Reed urged Sean to think on his decision, explaining that Sean's newfound powers need not be seen as a curse. Sean didn't want to hear it until a classmate and friend was mugged and hospitalized. Sean realized that his powers gave him an obligation to protect innocent people. Later that week, when a dormitory fire broke out on campus, Sean leaped into action (literally) to save the firefighter and students who were trapped inside.

From that point on, Sean realized what he must do with his powers. He would use them for the benefit of others, and he would become a superhero...

Hero Type: Acrobat

Power Level: City Level (Ex. Spider-Man, Cyclops)

Powers: Sean's strength and speed are dramatically increased from the normal baseline. He also possesses accelerated healing and greater resistance to injury. Sean can leap incredible heights and distances, and he can adhere to almost any surface thanks to millions of microscopic hairs on the palms of his hands and soles of his feet. Sean possesses a retractable exoskeleton which he can form in various shapes around his body. The exoskeleton also possesses a color-changing pigment which grants Sean moderate camouflage. Sean can also generate blasts of bio-electricity from his hands, giving him a "sting" that he can use at range.

Attributes

Strength Level:
20 tons

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: 40 MPH

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: 2 hours

Agility: 15X Human level

Intelligence: Average

Fighting Skill: Untrained

Resources: Minimal

Weaknesses: While Sean does possess limited resistance to injury, he is by no means invulnerable. He must rely on his quickness and agility to avoid taking big hits. His exoskeletal armor protects him from most damage, but it also weighs him down significantly. On a personal level, Sean is fiercely protective of his friends and family and would be emotionally distraught if they ever fell into harm's way. On a less personal level, Sean feels obligated to protect innocents, a fact that villains can use to get at him or simply distract him for an easy getaway.

Supporting Characters

Chris Alovili: Sean's roommate. Chris seems to know everybody, and he's extremely well-liked across Lost Haven University. Chris is a very active person, often working out or playing sports, and he pushes Sean to be active both physically and socially.

Mary Robinson: Sean's new girlfriend. Mary is the first girl Sean has dated since breaking up with his high school sweetheart, Brooke [see below].

Brooke McFadden: Sean's high school sweetheart and ex-girlfriend. Brooke goes to Bristol College on the other side of Lost Haven. She and Sean broke up after high school so that they wouldn't be a distraction to one another in their first year at college. There are unresolved feelings between the two, but they remain close friends.

Dr. Milton Reed: A biologist and metahuman expert. Dr. Reed knows Sean's secret and helps him come to terms with his new life as a metahuman.

Vince Daniels: Sean's close friend from high school. Vince was actively involved in various extracurricular activities in high school, and he rarely had downtime for his friends. Vince's father is a politician and has high expectations for his son. Now that he's in college, Vince has time to hang out again. Vince is dating Abby [see below].

Abby Smith: One of Sean's oldest friends. Abby moved away when she and Sean were preteens, and she moved back for the last year of high school. Sean's friends and family often joke that Abby was Sean's first girlfriend due to their closeness. The two both deny ever having those feelings. Abby is dating Vince and attending community college in Carver.

Victoria Abbott: Sean's older sister. Victoria attends Bristol College as a senior. She and Sean are very close.

Sergeant Nicholas Hampton: Mantis' inside man in the Lost Haven Police Department. Sergeant Hampton is a good cop.

Do you know how to post pictures on RPG boards?: Yes.

After spending the majority of the afternoon in an empty construction site north of LHU, I'm beginning to learn the extent of these strange new "abilities" of mine. First of all, I'm way faster and stronger than I've ever been. My new-found agility is almost instinctual, allowing me to perform acrobatic maneuvers without any real training. I can leap incredibly high, by my count about a five story vertical jump. Somehow, I'm able to adhere to surfaces, allowing me to literally climb straight up a wall. Those weird segmented plates can cover my entire body or select parts, and I spent most of the afternoon learning how to control that. Also, I seem to able to generate some kind of yellowish energy blast from the palm of my hand. I accidentally clipped myself with one of them. It feels like licking a battery and getting a static shock put together, magnified ten or so times.

As you can imagine, I spent a lot of time asking myself how the Hell this could happen. Invariably, there was only one obvious answer. The mysterious man in the lab coat and his broken vial of green goop. Ever since I cut myself on the glass and got some of that stuff in the wound, I haven't been myself. At first, I thought I was just infected and running a fever. I would've gone to the hospital, except that my fever broke and my wound healed. Certainly strange, but I could have shrugged it off. If not for this. Whatever was in that vial, it's something big. I should've known from the second I saw the look on that scientist's face. He understood the gravity of it as well. If I want answers, I need to figure out what entered my body.

And for that, I turn to Google.

I enter the search terms "metahuman expert," and I'm greeted by page after page dedicated to one man: Doctor Milton Reed. He's a biologist who became fascinated with the rise of metahumans. I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone realized they could make a career out of studying these kinds of people. My kind of people, I guess. I click on a YouTube link of Dr. Reed giving a speech at Columbia University.

He's an older man, mid-to-late fifties, with graying hair, a full beard, and glasses. In short, he looks like a scientist. He pulls a series of index cards from his breast pocket as he adjusts the microphone. After clearing his throat, he begins, "Sic Parvis Magna. These are the words inscribed on Sir Francis Drake's coat of arms. Sic Parvis Magna. It means, 'Greatness from small beginnings.' In a way, I feel that phrase adequately captures the reality of most metahumans." He pauses for a moment, making eye contact with the crowd. "You'll note I call them metahumans. I shy away from using phrases like, 'superhuman,' as I feel that - in certain contexts - it invokes a sense of superiority. It is my opinion that the existence of these individuals enriches humankind, rather than diminishes it. In all respects but one, these individuals are just like you and me. They could be your neighbor, or your best friend, or the store owner down the street. They have jobs and hobbies and favorite restaurants. You could look at them and never know the truth."

At this point, I stop the video. As fascinating as I'm sure it is, I don't have thirty minutes to spend listening to the rest of it. It looks like this is my guy, and a little more Googling brings good news. He's living in Lost Haven, just south of Sherman Square. I think it's high time I paid the good doctor a visit. Grabbing my backpack, I dig out the broken vial from under my bed. All the pieces are still here, albeit broken as they are. Maybe Dr. Reed can identify what this stuff was.
Application is complete. I should make assurances that despite Aurine's choice of profession, there will be no explicit content in any of her posts. I think we all know how to find websites that specialize in that if we so choose. :P
Wait, does being confused make you adorable? Because if so, then I'm adorable, like, 90% of the time.

Name - Aurine Ornilla
Species - Zeltron
Gender - Female
Age - 25
Occupation - Courtesan

Appearance - Aurine has all the telltale genetics of a pure-blooded Zeltron: vibrant pink skin, deep blue hair bordering on jet black that she wears down past her shoulders, and piercing eyes the color of a frozen pond. Like most Zeltrons, with her angular features and facial symmetry, Aurine is easily classified as "conventionally attractive," at least in the eyes of species that prefer humanoids. Her body is her trade, so Aurine makes sure to always remain at peak physical fitness.

Apparel - At work, Aurine dresses herself in only the finest silks and lightweight dresses, many embroidered and jewel-encrusted, most of which were gifts from various suitors. In her personal time, Aurine dresses more casually, although no less revealingly. She can usually be seen wearing a short ribbed leather jacket over a tight-fitting crop top and matching leather pants. She typically abstains from wearing jewelry or obviously valuable clothing, as that's just an easy way to put a target on your back in 3030.
Weapons - While inside Zam's Brothel, Aurine leaves defense to the Mandalorian. However, outside of work Aurine knows better than to traverse 3030 without her trusty Merr-Sonn Q2 hold-out blaster somewhere on her person. Often, she also carries a concealed stiletto vibroknife in the heel of her shoes.
Equipment - Like any resident of 3030, Aurine carries her credit chip with her at all times and occasionally a datapad.

Skills - As one might expect, given her choice of profession, Aurine is a master of seduction. She understands people on an intuitive level and knows how to work them when she needs to. At the same time, she isn't without empathy. As a Zeltron, one of Aurine's strengths is her ability to understand what others are feeling. The natural pheromones she emits are also useful for calming tempers and getting others to relax.
Flaws - Aurine has a tendency towards aimlessness. Others see the Zeltron way of life and think it must be so much fun, pursuing one's whims and living in the heat of the moment. And while some of that is certainly true, there are drawbacks to being a creature of the present. Aurine has flitted from day to day in her life, never stopping to question where any of her choices were taking her. Now, she lives on 3030 and works in Zam's Brothel and has absolutely no plan for her future. She's also a bit prone towards overestimating her ability to talk her way out of any situation.

Personality - Aurine is the life of the party. When you talk to her, you know she's listening. When she laughs at your jokes, it always feels genuine. Even those who have never met her before walk away from interactions with Aurine feeling as though they've known her for years. Aurine is affable, positive, and outgoing. She feels a strong bond with all her sisters in Zam's Brothel and would go to bat for any of them without a moment's hesitation. Though Aurine never lets the harsh realities of 3030 permanently dampen her spirit, she is nonetheless a realist about what it takes to survive this far down from Coruscant's surface.
Goals - As mentioned above, Aurine takes life moment-by-moment. She strives to elevate the interactions with her clients to a level of intimacy they may not be familiar with on Coruscant. Aurine is still searching for her own endgame, but along the way she's more than happy to help her sisters pursue their dreams if she can.

Backstory - Aurine Ornilla was born on Zeltros, the homeworld of her people. The eldest of three daughters, Aurine was never the type to follow rules. In fact, she often had the most fun when she was doing something she wasn't supposed to do. Aurine's family didn't lack for wealth; they came from a long line of successful merchants who peddled their luxury wares to the many tourists on Zeltros. Naturally, then, there wasn't much approval when the teenaged Aurine fell for a younger boy from a common family. The boy had dreams of becoming a renowned artist, of seeing his sculptures adorn the plazas of all the biggest cities in the Core Worlds. The young Aurine was swept up in his passion, and the two resolved to leave Zeltros together. Forsaking her share of the Ornilla fortune, Aurine joined with the would-be artist as the two embarked on the great adventure.

Sadly, the adventure was short-lived. As it so often does with idealists, the galaxy chewed up Aurine's boyfriend and spit him back out. The money they had saved for the trip lasted the pair but a few short months. The now despondent artist suffered another blow as his relationship with Aurine dissolved. Realizing that what they had was only ever the passion of youth, Aurine decided to break it off in favor of her own path. She knew there would be a place for her on Zeltros if she returned with contrition in her heart, but she had no intention of doing so. Rocky as her introduction to the galaxy was, Aurine couldn't help but revel at the sense of adventure that spacefaring brought.

An opportunity to see more of the galaxy presented itself in the form of a luxury liner seeking new escorts. With her Zeltron heritage, Aurine was natural fit, and she began to train in the arts of being a courtesan. For a few years, she traveled with the moving brothel, amassing suitors and clients alike on different worlds across the galaxy. But with the spread of the Galactic Empire came a clampdown on so-called "illicit" trade. As prostitution became increasingly more restricted -- and even outlawed in some sectors -- the luxury liner shut down. It was from one of her fellow courtesans that Aurine heard of the active sex trade on the lower levels of Coruscant, and so she sought out Zam's Brothel as a new venue to peddle her trade. She has worked there just shy of two years now, quickly making a name for herself on 3030.
Well, here are the bare bones. Gonna have to swing back around for the meatier bits...

Screen Name: Eddie Brock

Character you wish to play: Cerrina Tovar, Jedi Shadow

Race: Mirialan

Faction: The Jedi Order

Background: Cerrina Tovar's obsession with ancient relics began at an early age. On her homeworld of Brentaal IV, Cerrina's father ran a small shop for antiques and curios. Among his wares he boasted jewel-encrusted silverware taken from Alderaan before its destruction, an energy cell allegedly salvaged from an ancient lightsaber, and the fang of a long-dead Krayt dragon. Cerrina spent much of her childhood wandering the cramped aisles of the shop, inspecting all the old and mysterious objects within. Though she knew little and less of what they all were, she nonetheless found herself fascinated by each and every one of them. She felt similarly about the variety of customers whose needs the shop served. Often, she would sit behind the counter and silently watch her father interact with them. The customers never paid much mind to the girl behind the counter... save for one.

It had been like any other day when the Zabrak came in. His face was kind, though scratched and scarred like a cliff face that had been exposed to the rushing wind. It gave him the appearance of someone much older than he was and spoke of countless tales of adventures untold. Cerrina watched the Zabrak from afar, noting his peculiar attire. As he approached the counter, his silvery eyes fell upon the young girl and held there for a moment. Cerrina had never felt so exposed. She was grateful when the man turned his attention away to her father. She became troubled, though, when the two men started speaking in an unfamiliar tongue. After a time, Cerrina's father introduced her to the man. His name was Uldir Saar.

Saar explained that Cerrina's father had told him about recent strange occurrences involving Cerrina. Objects moving seemingly of their own accord, odd dreams that felt more like memories, waves of emotion that the girl could never pinpoint nor explain. That was when Saar spoke of the Force. He told Cerrina that the Force was very strong with her, strong in a way that not many people got to feel. He was a Jedi Knight, he explained, and if Cerrina wanted, he could teach her to deepen that connection to the Force. It would mean leaving her home and going to study at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, but it was an opportunity not afforded to most, he assured her. Saar gave Cerrina and her family a few days to talk about it. Eventually, they all came to the conclusion that if Cerrina had been given a gift, then it would be a mistake not to pursue it.

So Cerrina went with Master Saar to Coruscant and began her instruction in the way of the Jedi. Throughout her time as a padawan learner, Cerrina would ask Master Saar about his responsibilities within the Order, but he always evaded her. It wasn't until Cerrina was officially knighted that Saar told her about the Order's Shadow branch. Acting as operatives in the name of the Order, Jedi Shadows were tasked with seeking out focal points of Dark Side energy -- be they artifacts, temples, or ruins -- and cleansing them. They were not the face of the Jedi Order; rather, they were the gatekeepers who protected the galaxy from the threat of the Dark Side. It was a thankless task that required the utmost commitment to the ideals of the Order, and it was, Master Saar professed, a perfect fit for Cerrina. Under his recommendation, she agreed to train to become a Jedi Shadow.

Now, Cerrina travels the galaxy on her personal ship, Mistdancer. She is accompanied by a civilian pilot, Jaxtur Kol, whose underground ties allow Cerrina access to people and places normally unavailable to a Jedi. He's also one of the few pilots sympathetic to the Republic who wouldn't bat an eye at Cerrina's dangerous and mysterious quests. Cerrina is also attended to by one of the Order's protocol droids, DT-4KO, an overly nurturing sort who acts to make sure Cerrina is taking care of herself. Quietly, the three act as the front-line against the encroachment of the Dark Side.

Character Class: Force Sensitive (Jedi)

Items: As a member of the Jedi Order -- and particularly as a Shadow -- Cerrina has little use for material possessions. However, the one item she would never be caught dead without is her handcrafted, amber-bladed saberstaff. Otherwise, she maintains several small tools on her utility belt, including but not limited to: food capsules, a small hook attached to a length of fibercord, a compact aquata breather, short-range commlink, and an emergency beacon transceiver.

Character Personality: One could be forgiven for spending time around Cerrina Tovar and never suspecting her Jedi heritage. The young woman is quiet, guarded, distant. She tells herself that it's an artifact of her calling; when one spends so much time skirting the edges of the Dark Side, it is necessary -- vital -- to build barriers around one's emotions. However, more and more Cerrina begins to wonder if the job made her this way... or if her being this way got her the job. As such, she is wracked with doubt about herself. Even she is hesitant to call herself a Jedi, feeling as though she's little more than a pale reflection of what the great Order strives to be when compared to her more traditional peers. Cerrina's job necessitates a certain degree of solitude, which suits her fine most of the time, though even a Jedi can be lonely. Even still, opening up to others has never been her strong suit, so friends are few and far between.

Character Alignment: Light Side
