I understand that. So, what brings you here? How did you find this place?

I suppose someone else here would be more qualified to answer that.
Night. Laters.

*Steps outside*
It'll be far more beneficial to both parties if we talk. It's important enough that I left my post to come to you, so now may we discuss this issue?

Hello, sir. As cliche as it may seem, we come in peace; none of us want any trouble.
<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

You're more trapped by not moving from this balcony.
*Pulls a communicator from my waist*
I'm going to need you to come here for the discussion. They're... the cautious sort.

Sounds like a lose-lose to me.

I can critique art pretty well actually. I just can't make it.

You're the kind of guy to look at something by Da Vinci and go "Not bad, but he overuses the color blue sometimes."

We're not an unreasonable people. She did say that all she wants is for us talk, and you can take my word for it that we, as a society, never act irrationally. And right now, she's acting on behalf of their society in speaking to us. So what's a little talk? We'll make it out if we absolutely need to.

*Looks back and forth*
What's rational and irrational can end up being fuzzier when the discussion is whether or not to execute or incarcerate someone you perceive to be a threat. Plus, what's to say that once we go in there, we're not trapped?
<Snipped quote by Etcetera>

Art thing as in the mediocre drawing that has the same shapes over and over in a pattern that doesn't even imply skill? Also I don't even believe you.

I can't let you. And I think you'll find difficulty in opening any means of transportation off planet anyways. So, it's my hide if I can't get you to come and talk.

Yes, and I agree that it's reasonable to take those precautions. But look at it from our perspective: You stumble across some new world and suddenly they seal it off so you can't leave. It's a bit threatening. Asking for a civil conversation deeper into the heart of this society is an invitation for danger for us; it's like expecting a cornered animal to reason with the captors. I don't want to be presumptuous, so forgive me if I overstep anything, but you probably have a family, right? Maybe not kids or a husband, but there are at least people who love you. You're someone living your day to day life and you're doing your job—I know those who love you would be devastated if you were for some reason captured. Our lives are the same way, because in the end, we're just the same as you. Why not look past the "strangers must be detained" mantra and see the situation for what it really is: we're people who just want to go home too, people who have families and lives to go back to. So from one sapient, living being to another, how about it? We'll be glad to respect your culture and territory immediately, and we just ask that you be willing to see both sides of it, so we can all make a reasoned, informed decision that benefits everyone the most in the end.

I have no way of knowing that. You'll be going inside to do exactly that, talk. Only to someone of higher authority. It's their jusgement that matters, not mine. So if you are confident in your innocence, then head inside so you can talk it out.

But then that drastically increases the risk on our end. I'm sure we can all agree that we'd rather not die today—we don't know you, and you don't know us, so the thing that would reduce the danger on both ends due to the unknowns is to leave and sever contact.
