Current You'd think after like 15 years I'd stop feeling like a fraud when writing posts but I still do which is both a statement on my self confidence and a compliment to how good my partners are as writers

The important thing was that people had been scared. Well, two people that she could tell. Moonman tried to play it off all cool like, that's what he did of course, but Addie knew it in her deepest of hearts that he had been absolutely petrified. That was a great success as far as she was concerned; if someone could make the Moonman flinch...chances are it would have been Sunny Boy but Addie was glad to know she could at least get a response from the guy. And he didn't yell at her because of it, which only really served to give Addie more reasons to try and scare him. It was like a fun little game only Addie was the only one playing. The best thing about that? She always won.

A campground? Addie didn't know regular ground from campground and really, really wanted to ask for the distinction. Perhaps campground was softer or had less grass or maybe campground had like natural pillows made out of soft dirt. The possibilities were running through her mind, and she was running right there with them - mentally - doing gymnastics as she tried to imagine campground in the literal sense of the word.

Addie would have remained focused on campgrounds were it not for a louder question shooting from the lips of Em-Em. Of course, Em-Em had a different nickname but Addie out and out refused to say it. It was a swear word and swear words were bad, plus Em-Em wasn't one of those, she was sometimes a bit mean but she was a good person. They were all good people, it's why they were together! Addie turned her head and stared rather blankly at Emily, blinking with her mouth hung open. What a question! What a hard question! No one had ever asked her something like that before. What is wrong with you?

Of course, Addie didn't know the concept of a rhetorical question nor did she even know what rhetorical meant. So rather than ignore it or make a joke like a normal person would, Addie merely widened her child-like smile and responded in the only way she knew how. The literal sense.

"Oh wow that's a really hard question, Em-Em but I think I have an answer for you and it's probably my family not you guys who are my new bestest family but my mommy and daddy and Ty-Ty and Pee and Pee who are my brothers who I think mommy and daddy love more because one Christmas Ty-Ty wanted an Eggsbox which I thought was funny because what can you do with a box of eggs except break them and get all messy but I wanted a new soldering iron because I broke my old one after burning my hands like all the time and I thought Santa would give me one because I am the goodest girl so be good for goodness sake but when Christmas came all I got was clothes that didn't even fit me and Ty-Ty got this weird black box that he said was an Eggsbox but it didn't even have any eggs in it and I would know because I checked it by breaking it open and Ty-Ty got really mad at me and my parents hit me kinda hard but that was last year so that's probably not what's really wrong with me I don't really know but my dad always looked tired when I wanted to play but he would always have time for Ty-Ty and the twinsies and the maid who always cleaned his room for like two hours while he was in there too I guess it's a big room and needs two people and when I saw them cleaning the bed once my dad told me not to tell my mom but I told her anyway and she got mad at me and I don't know why but that year on my birthday when all I wanted was some green boards and wires they gave me a book with a cat and a hat on it but the words were too hard so I just drew over the drawings and then my dad got mad again and I never got another birthday present that was on my ten third birthday and I'm ten seven now but when I was just six I wanted a hot glue gun because I needed it and instead they gave me a book about green food and what am I going to do with that so I glued all the pages together and that made my mom mad and my dad used his waist cord on me but I didn't cry because I was six and I was a big girl then but I don't 'member if Ty-Ty or the PeePees ever got hit they always got more food at dinner too and always Santa got them what they asked for and I never did and I just really really wanted a toy pony for years but never got it I guess I just have to keep being a good girl for Santa because this year I really really want a toy pony and I've been really really good this year even though my mommy said she hated me after she visited me in my new cell room where I met you all I know she was just joking because I'm her daughter and I know she loves me."

Addie spoke without pause until she reached the end of her rapid rambling. Without missing a beat, she turned back towards Moonman, still smiling despite recounting a small slice of years of neglect and discipline, and asked what had been on her mind all along. "What's a campgroundddddd? Is it like regular ground but differenttttt?"

The world was such an interesting place, especially when viewed through the eyes of Addie.

Conference Room

In some ways it was like the first day of school, specifically the first day in a school where the teacher didn't assign seats based on the alphabetical order. For many students, and oddly this transferred to the supposed adults that worked here, it was free reign to sit by your friends, often in the back, and just goof off. Of course, the conference room was much smaller than any given class room and Aidan was far more harsh than any teacher Eugene had ever known, but the metaphor was there, it was apt, and that was the main thing.

Eugene never really fussed about her seat in school; it didn't matter where she sat in class, people would snicker and laugh as soon as the teacher called her name for attendance. But when it came to the conference room, she wasn't sure why there wasn't a reserved sign on the chair closest to the door right in the front of the table, next to the head where Aidan stood. Eugene always sat there and though some might have seen it as Eugene being a kiss-ass, it was really just because it was the shortest chair between her desk and the conference room. And if she was ever asked, she had the perfect excuse ready.

"Easy learn when so close."

Of course, no one really asked nor did they care - most days it seemed like the meetings were slept through or otherwise just forgotten about within moments after ending, provided nothing interesting happened, of course. Perhaps the perpetual prankster would attempt another of his, in Eugene's eyes, woefully unfunny jokes. Perhaps the pot stirrer would trip and fall as he walked past Nana. Perhaps her childish co-workers would see the new hire as a toy and rush to paw at her like she was some expensive tablet or something.

Either way, Eugene was normally more punctual - often arriving in the conference room with minutes to spare while others shuffled in, but today there was a bit of a distraction what with the cameras and the leading interview questions. She really hoped they wouldn't be here long; she'd never had to keep up her ruse in front of cameras, and these crew people seemed determined to find SOMETHING salacious or scandalous, be it genuine or fabricated. Still, with quickened steps, Eugene entered the conference room and took her spot at the table with no fanfare or attention drawn to herself.

Someone here had to actually care, and all signs pointed to it being her.
