You showed up.
One way or another, you've arrived at my profile. You've taken a wrong turn in an alleyway because you didn't pay enough attention to your map. You've heard of something cool and new and thought maybe you'd see what all the fuss is about? Or maybe it is that you noticed like me updating my status or were lurking through an RP or something I am in and just kinda clicked my profile, that happens too. Regardless, you'll come to learn that your actions have consequences. Not this one since you can always just, like, leave.
I have a few names and I don't mind being called whatever you fancy at that given time. KingofTheSpectrum, FamishedPants, ChadChadlainn. Any derivative of these is fine as well. Most tend to use Pants, however. I'm nearing my thirties and enjoy games, anime, V-tubers, and visual novels. You can find my still-obsolete list here as it contains everything important on it.
As for games particularly, I am a huge fan of Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Nier and its sequel, FFXIV, and recently, Project Wingman.I tend to lean towards shooters and action games, but I have also wasted 8+ years on League of Legends. I think the only games I tend to avoid are card games and sports games, but there can always be exceptions.
For anime, I tend to watch whatever looks entertaining. It doesn't have to be good. I've seen a lot of the generic, poor-quality isekai harems that are out there. It's difficult to remember what I actually genuinely like, but Chaika the Coffin Princess comes to mind, as well as FMA: Brotherhood. I'm currently enjoying Tokyo Revengers.
I've read my fair share of visual novels, as my list would tell you. I can't recommend going through Muv Luv Extra/Unlimited, then playing Alternative enough! Big fan of Rance, Grisaia no Kajitsu, and Demonbane as well. I could probably go on and on about them, but I'll stop here.
Silhouette had managed to come out relatively unscathed after three battles, yet they were all still fairly close calls. Perhaps getting too into her disguise had led her to become disabled in the first, Caroline's offputting strategy doing the same in the second fight, and her own self-restraint just barely winning out over the undesired bloodlust in the third. It was unfortunate to say that getting excited over Caroline's defeat would be a mistake because they still had a war to wage, which was made especially evident by the sudden appearance of an ally of Caroline's. Things happened rather quickly and Sil could do very little at the time, so the main point was that they had lost Caroline to... something. Perhaps this was for the best, though. Silhouette wasn't especially fond of an abomination claiming a foe as strong as Caroline for its own.
"Geez, buddy, that is rough." Shade's expression showed concern for the dirtied dark mahou shoujo, who'd just had to bribe her own patron so that it wouldn't devour her. Her situation was not one Sil envied in the least.
Mariette seemed to be as pleased as a dwarf with a yoyo -- that is to say, not pleased at all. "Wake up Suwako and go help," she barked an order a Shade. The DMG wasn't ecstatic to receive an order from someone who wasn't her employer, but Shade still smiled bright and nodded enthusiastically.
"Alrighty~!"
Only she didn't really know who "Suwako" was. Thankfully, she was able to deduce that it was probably the small child she just floored with a single punch. It was not the first time she'd been in this situation, but it was the first time she'd been in it unwillingly -- err, been in a situation where she harmed a smaller child. She not have a habit of punching them. Anyways, feeling just the slightest amount of embarrassment, Shade kneeled down next to her poor victim and gave her a few shakes. Sadly, she lacked any smelling salts or the time to allow the girl to wake up naturally.
"Hey, hey, are you done resting? We've got things to do, places to see, bad guys to bop!" Sil had to admit she was more experienced at causing unconsciousness, not rousing one from it. Hopefully, she wasn't shaking her too hard. "We've got to..." before she could finish that sentence, her eyes had drifted off towards the distance. In it, she spotted the happenings surrounding the ship she was on a bit earlier.
What the hell is going on here?
She wasn't able to discern whether or not the huge golem had succeeded in murdering the remaining crew of the ship, but she did know that she was thankful she wasn't required to deal with it. At least, not right now. "...umm, hey we should really get going, Suwako?"
She really hoped she didn't accidentally kill the poor thing. She only killed for necessity or profit, after all.
4:30 does seem to be the magic time, doesn’t it. Thomas thought to himself, mulling over what Faith had just said. Although, there was a particular question gnawing at the back of his mind. If 4:30 was the threshold for where they knew Mercy was, and she was infected by her hand, that would mean that someone would have to have used something sharp to pierce her hand in between that time. If Daimyon and Bliss were working in the kitchen, where the knives were, that might make them a prime suspect but…
The theory was so absurd, it might just work. ”Hey. Infinite Archer, where were you before the party?”
Zachary almost seemed startled by the sudden question. Aside from offering a few words, he’d been rather quiet during all the random ‘conclusions’ people were reaching. He never considered himself a brilliant man, so trying to piece together the puzzle of this case while the courtroom could be likened to some sort of jester’s festival was basically impossible. Adding something randomly could only make the situation worse. But if somebody asked him directly, the ideal thing to do would be to answer as clearly and truthfully as he could.
“If you are referring to just before the party at around 4:30, I was in the dojo with Jezebel.” he answered calmly. “I wanted to gauge just how badly this injury of mine would affect my performance with a bow, and if it was going to cause issues later on...” his tone softened at the end, hinting that the results weren’t to his liking.
Thomas narrowed his eyes. For some reason, when he did this, he looked less critical and instead looked silly. Whatever the intended effect of narrowing his eyes was, he had clearly missed his mark. ”That will be all.”
As it turned out, Thomas had been following a dead end.
“I wish I could be of more help,” Zachary sighed, frustrated. All of this questioning and he could give no answers or meaningful input. It stunk.“I regret not taking the chance to speak to her earlier today when I had the chance.”
Sure that his musing went unheard, Zach silently faced a heated Faith. The courtroom was still as lively as it was five minutes ago. He attempted to keep up with what the others were getting at, but really, there was nothing he could do. Did it even matter if he was here? His life was on the line, but what positive contribution had he made towards the discussion? None. And that ate at him because he understood that more than just his life was at stake.
Holy shit what a productive post Boss do you still love us? <3
Toru had begun to wonder if his habit of messing with people was finally coming back to bite him in the ass. He would not be surprised if karma was very upset with him, and decided to push back. Perhaps they shared some weird similarity to one of Newton's laws? Surely this was some divine retribution for his constant pranks and godawful puns.
I think I would actually be honored if that were the case. But more likely, there's a different reason for the unfavorable results...
The reactions (or lack thereof) he received from the group was rather informative in a way. Much like they probably figured his missing limb was no problem due to his own attitude towards it, he figured out a little something about them by paying attention to how they responded to his presence. And what did he learn? Oh, nothing much. Other than the simple fact that everybody in this group had to be some kind of crazy to give such minimal attention to him. They were a far cry from normal, but he probably shouldn't be talking about that, given his own situation. Still, he was rather curious as to how these people could react as they did. What had they seen to desensitize them to his antics?
But a more pressing concern Toru now had was that he wondered if this was going to be the standard reaction by the student body? Was being 'weird' the 'norm' in this school? If that was the case, this wasn't the "interesting and unique situation" he wanted at all. Quite the opposite really. He liked standing out. And to paraphrase a quote from a man who arguably was more brilliant than even Newton, "When everybody is weird, nobody is".
Well, at least one of them had the decency to make light of his situation in the way he liked. It should come as no surprise, but Toru did not miss the jab from the blonde, proper-sounding girl who 'respectfully' declined to help because she was obligated to assist this "Motome-san". He might have considered leaving the school had nobody picked up on that. Thankfully, however, SOME people here had some class. And in appreciation of that, it would not be incorrect to say that out of all the people he met in this school, she was currently his favorite. Especially after she so kindly volunteered somebody else to help him. What a nice person, indeed.
Now then, who is Tatara-san?
By the time he'd asked himself this, there was literally only one other person left. Of course, it had to be the really tall person with the extra arms and the getup that reminded him of the Metro series. Given the size difference, the fact he was outnumbered in limbs, and this very strange, unexplainable feeling that they weren't the sort to joke around, he should probably play it safe since they could likely main him if she so desired.
"We're going to go to the nurse's office, then the teacher's office. They'll fill you in on what you missed." the figure ordered. Given all the concealment, it wasn't until she spoke that he knew what was behind the mask. That could've been bad. So, perhaps thankful for the avoided bad-end, he followed behind her. Besides, she could have easily decided to leave him alone, but out of the kindness of her heart, she went ahead and decided to deal with him. How kind. He was almost moved by the motion. Really all she needed to do now was hit him with a good pun and she'd be miles above that blonde from earlier. "I'm sure you're fine if you think eating your own arm is a viable solution to hunger then you come to us to joke about it, but just to make sure you don't end up making a fool of yourself you should follow me."
"Well, I was always a fan of finger foods, so I figured I might try it. Don't worry though, it won't happen again," he promised, making sure that common sense understood that its place was elsewhere. Puns were more than worth the potential danger of irritating her. He also stole glances at the campus while they walked. He'd seen it before, of course, but.. the school was rather beautiful, compared to the locker he was stuck in. There was a lot more colors and space to move around. "Well, thank you for being volunteered. I don't think you can stop me from doing what is in my nature, but I appreciate the concern... uh, Tatara-san, was it? Oh, I am Ayanokoji Toru, in case that ever matters. Address me how you will."
You don't need to be a transfer student. You can always say your OC was there or something similar. For example, some idiot had his OC be stuck in a locker for a whole week.
Do forgive me, things began piling on and I'm afraid I'm in no position to apply for the roleplay with the intention of making constant posts. Sorry for wasting your time.
Among the potential benefits of joining this academy for heroes, Toru had to say the one he anticipated most was the possibility to be put into interesting and unique situations he would not find himself in anywhere else. Ever since decking that one bad guy, he knew that what he needed to do was strike out and do things he wasn't entirely used to. That might be the only way he could get his blood pumping, in the proverbial sense. And so he found himself in one such situation, yet he felt nothing positive about it.
Perhaps because it involved him being stuck in a damned locker for multiple days? Or perhaps it was because it was somewhat embarrassing, what with the aforementioned predicament being a result of a backfire of his own actions? Either way, it was something he could safely say he did NOT enjoy, and the sooner he could get out of it, the better. But what had happened? Well, just like anything to do with Ayanokoji Toru, it began with a prank.
The first day of school was supposed to be a very entertaining and memorable one for the young man. He aspired to prank the entire class in one go, something that had probably never been done to this exact class on that exact day at the exact time he planned to do it. Truly the peak of originality. But first, he decided he had to pull off a little warm-up prank. Nothing complicated, mind you. His intentions were merely to jumpscare the poor janitor by hiding in one of the supply closets and hopping out at the proper time. Easy, amateur stuff that anybody could do, really. Since he could pause his heartbeat, it allowed him to look deathly pale and perhaps this added effect would amplify the fright? It was worth a shot.
So then... why did things have to end up this way?
Toru couldn't tell you exactly what circumstances had led to him being trapped, only that he'd gotten up early and knew the man had to get cleaning supplies a bit before Toru'd be needed for class. But no janitor ever came. And as his homeroom drew nearer, Toru found that the door to the closet refused to open, despite his best efforts to do so without causing damage. He could potentially break it, but then the school might get mad at him for vandalism, and in all honesty, he couldn't say his life was in any danger, could he? So he waited.
And waited.
And waited some more.
Minutes turned to hours and hours turned to days. What the hell had gone on? It didn't help that this damned closet was tucked away in a corner of the school not many people seemed to venture. Had the man just quit his job? Was he dead? It was impossible for Toru to know, but what he did know is that the time he spent locked in a locker doing absolutely nothing but missing school could have maybe been spent a bit more productively, even if that word killed him on the inside.
So, after many days absent from the class, Toru decided he wasn't going to wait any longer, even at the cost of the school's property. He broke the door to the closet and let himself free easy as that. But by this time, the day seemed to be approaching its end. He really should've gotten out sooner.
Oh well, I doubt I'll get much more than some form of detention. I do hope my parents weren't too worried.
While he couldn't say anything like this had happened to him before, Toru would occasionally drift off somewhere and show up days later. Something like this probably wouldn't have caused his parents too much distress, though whether or not the school was worried was another matter altogether.
It'll probably be fine. Maybe.
For now, it was probably best he got an idea of how long he had been stuck in there. He'd fallen asleep a few times over the course of his confinement, and he did not currently own a cell phone for lack of any reason to do so, so he wasn't sure when right now was. He'd need to inquire about it personally, and perhaps he could screw with one or two people as he did so. So, he found himself wandering outside, eventually coming across the group of named characters students. They seemed to be discussing important things, what with the tones of their voices and, well, people acting upset.
So of course now was as good a time as any to butt into their conversation. Which he did, but not before 'tidying up' before he entered their awareness via stumbling towards them. It would be very difficult to miss.
"So, uh..." Toru's voice called out, though it sounded very weak. "...do any of you... guys know what day it is...? Or the time...? I think I left my watch on the arm I ate...and I think I probably missed class..." Ayanokoji Toru was currently the very visage of someone who'd departed from this world. No coloration in his skin tone whatsoever, his heart wasn't beating (even if that's not something people notice without checking), and of course, most importantly was the fact that he was missing his left arm up to the elbow and the wound had seemingly not been treated. He looked down at the area where his arm should have been, and then back up. "...I've had better, I'll... admit."
Toru's costume also has a cute little smiley-face mask. It's main feature is that certain areas are actually detachable, such as the spaces around his elbows and shoulders, his wrists, his legs, and of course his neck.
Personality The fervor Ayanokoji displays when pursuing something he considers "entertaining" is matched only by the slothful approach that he takes towards anything else, a bit of a contradiction in his personality. To the uninterested, Toru might be dismissed as nothing more than a "prankster" who is much too immature to care about anybody other than himself and way too willling to dismember himself or otherwise cause himself harm in order to rouse a reaction out of his next victim. And while this wouldn't be an entirely incorrect assessment of his character, there is a lot more to the young man than meets the eye.
Yes, he adores childish things like pranks and puns. He almost seems to be entirely composed of them. Getting a great reaction from his pranks is almost like a high for him. Toru seems to dislike lying in general, though there is a clear exception made when he can nail a prank because of one little white lie. Perhaps he's addicted? The dedication he exibits to pulling a prank off would have most agreeing with that thought. Fortunately, he understands one cannot prank 24/7 and so puns tend to tide him over in the meantime. The cold truth is that some people are potential casualities of exasperation, but he knows this is a sacrifice he is willing to make.
And as mentioned before, he can be quite the lazybones on subjects that are not pranks or puns. He looks at the people who place hardwork and effort above everything else and he geuninely scratches his head in confusion. The act of putting your all into each and every little thing is alien to him, and far too tiresome. He'd be entirely content drifting through life and expending the least amount of effort possible and so he tries to. This makes him the natural enemy to diligent teachers and students alike. Most would not call him 'reliable' either.
Casual conversation with Toru makes him out to be rather amiable, though he can be blunt at times. He has a very playful nature and doesn't seem to get mad even when insulted. He reacts most positively to fun and light atmospheres. Conversely, he seems to intentionally avoid more serious subject matter, or tries to lighten it up when he can't. He seems at a loss, however, when he's not allowed to be a goofball or can't escape from a downer situation.
And as far as speaking about himself goes... well, he's pefectly okay speaking about his hobbies and other surface-level subjects like them. He'd almost give the appearance of being entirely transparent, but he's clearly unwilling to talk about his feelings or his more personal thoughts. People who attempt to press for this information will find that it is done so in vain, and it's up to them to realize this before they upset him. As rare as it is for him to get genuinely upset, when he does it has consequences. This strong reaction from him is perhaps the most obvious indicator that he keeps a wall between himself and others. There's a distance that he's yet to let other cross, so it would not be incorrect to say he's never had a proper friend before if you consider relationships a measure of trust. He's merely had preferred acquaintances. He's seemingly unempathetic because he's incapable of understanding how others think or feel.
A prankster mixed with some emotional incompetence is a slightly better tl;dr.
Background Ayanokoji Toru was born into this world via the union of two very loving parents, who'd wanted nothing more than to create a big, happy family. It would not be an overstatement to say that they so very much looked forward to holding the baby right after it was born, hearing it's cute little heartbeat, and listening to its adorable little wails. Such was the blessing provided to all parents, after all. Of course, this was not to be, as an infant Toru was born without a heartbeat and was motionless. Quite frankly, there weren't any signs of life. Immediately, the staff at the hospital tried their best to figure out what happened or if they could revive the poor young child, only to find him start laughing when his parents began to despair.
It would seem that Toru was always the little shit.
Toru grew up rather unpopular as he was considered quite strange. Because even if they had some physical differences because of their Quirks, just about everybody needed to breathe or blink. Or they had a heart that beat. Toru was not like that, however. These sort of unconcious things were not a part of him. So like many japanese children in anime do, they opted to bully the poor young Ayanokoji instead of accepting him. He was convinced that he would be accepted if he were more normal. A lot of his young life was spent attempting to remove the parts about himself that made him undesirable to the others. It was difficult to learn how to breathe, or to eat when you were never hungry. Teaching his heart to beat was perhaps the most difficult thing, but thankfully it was possible due to his Quirk. So, until he could pretty much set these functions on autopilot, he worked tireless trying more and more to become 'normal'. Eventually, he succeeded! But once he had? He wasn't treated any better. And furthmore, he came to realize that he shouldn't care if they thought he was normal. Why did he have to do what they wanted? He didn't! He decided that instead of trying to please them, he should try to get back at them. Being as young as he was, he didn't think about violence. No, he thought of something much more childish -- pranks! If they didn't like his Quirk, then he'd certainly use his Quirk to screw with them! And so he did. He actually may have even became the bully at some point with how much he tormented them. They weren't very adaptable, it seemed. And while he was pranking them, he found a sort of excitement he was unused to. He'd never had so much fun before. So while he originally only intended to mess with his bullies, somewhere along the way he ended up forgetting that. As his selections of victims rose, so too did his willingness to inflict harm on himself to achieve better results. Things had begun to get out of hand, he was starting to become some kind of neighborhood/school terror. Toru's parents apparently needed to move because of their jobs, but he always had the suspicion that it may have been his fault. Still, the opporunity was much welcomed. With a fresh start, he could now be normal! Yes, that's it!
Only, when that time came he genuinely wasn't sure how to interact with other people. He tried befriending people, only to place his trust in the wrong hands and get burned. At each point, it seemed simply having fun by himself, at the cost of other's sanity, was much more enjoyable. That probably wasn't normal, was it?
There had never once been thought about becoming a Hero before he made the decision. But Toru eventually found himself applying for a Hero Academy. Why? There wasn't any significantly deep reason. It wasn't out of a sense of duty, or some hidden desire to be desired. It was because he figured it might be fun.
He came to this conclusion after he was involved in a typical scenario where a villain took the store he was in hostage. Toru was never one to claim he was selfless or brave. In fact, given his reaction to his bullies originally, he considered himself somewhat of a coward. But, well, dire situations tend to bring out sides of people they don't always understand they have. When the situation with the villain became sour, the bastard attempted to go after some woman and her child. Toru found himself jumping selflessly in front of the two, taking a fatal blow in their stead. The villain, as small-time and vain as he was, cackled maniacally as he drew nearer, perhaps intending to harm the woman and child, but was caught off guard by Toru, who obviously wasn't as dead as the villain thought he was.
He experienced a rush quite unlike anything he'd ever experienced before. And so, 'for fun', he decided he'd try to become a hero. Was that normal? Probably not. But he decided that if what he was doing wasn't normal, then normal wasn't fun.
Quirk
Undeath
The easiest way to explain Toru's quirk is that he is a zombie, at least that's what most people think of when they see him in action. There is a bit more to it, however.
Toru's quirk is a mutant-type that allows him to recover from almost any injury he could physically sustain, so long as there's a piece of him to regenerate from. He can shrug off impalement, broken bones and missing limbs, will never bleed out, and can survive decapitation. He, naturally, has a pain tolerance well above the norm. He also has never been 'sick' before, leading one to believe he's immune to disease. And, on top of this, he has almost limitless endurance and is very physically strong for his age and size. He seems to have control over his body in ways that others do not. This is a regenerative Quirk that allows him to either grow back pieces of himself or even reattach them if he desires, but don't expect any "cloning" shenanigans as there can only ever be one Toru.
His quirk does, of course, have some weaknesses. While he might seem like he'll never run out of stamina, his healing ability does slow down considerably over time, particularly when he's forced to constantly regenerate. Additionally, if his head (brain) is destroyed, he's able to come back, but the full recovery period for that is a few days, so he's vulnerable to being finished off, if a foe so desires. He can come back from considerable damage, but he is not any more durable than the average person, so taking him down is far from impossible, and he can be trapped fairly easy, as while he is pretty strong, anybody with a physical quirk will have not have much problems.
Talent
Pain Tolerance - Pain doesn't faze him. At least, most pain doesn't. Being set on fire is still something he doesn't necessarily care for, but otherwise he's almost unstoppable in that regard.
Pranks - His reason for existence, pretty much. He is also capable of more practical pranks, such as a good ol whoopy cushion or water buckets above a door. People would be better off keeping their eye out for him.
Blunt weapons - Are his specialty. He's not exactly trained in their use or anything, but he has indeed been in a few fights and favors such things.
Fighting - He's not 'skilled' in any form of fighting style. He can throw a good punch or a kick, but that's about it. He's easily beaten skill-wise by people with training, particularly those who can use his own actions against him. Of course, despite currently being terrible at fighting, he's still a major threat in close-range to people who might be considered 'normal' due to his limitless stamina and his Quirk which more or less make any damage from hand-to-hand done to him null.
He doesn't seem to take very many things seriously, and fights aren't often an exception either. He's prone to making jokes mid-fight, willing to abuse his regeneration against people who don't have a Quirk that's an immediate concern of his, and may come off as rather condescending. Depending on the person, this may be a positive or a negative trait for him.
When he does decide to bother with the fight, he's rather resourceful given his lack of experience and skill. He doesn't really follow any sort of principle when fighting. He's not looking to kill, obviously, but aside from that, anything's fair game. He's got a preference for blunt objects, particularly a bat, for weapons but if he can't find one, odds are he'll just use his own dismembered limbs as weapons. Fairly creepy stuff.
