“I can’t believe you wrestled with that spider! It was really impressive, considering it was the size of you,” Cassinia kept up an energetic chat, all while spinning her pipe around in her fingers. She’d ran out of pipe-weed days ago and Ted refused to share any that he still had (from rationing better).

“I wouldn’t have had to if you hadn’t just stood there gawping and shot the thing,” Ted responded with a slightly huff from where he walked just ahead of the younger hobbit. Indeed he bore some scratches on his face and arms from the unwelcome tussle; it had been agreed that Cassi would shoot any creature they came across on sight. Of course he should have expected the less experienced scout to just stand and stare at a new and wondrous sight.

“Well I’ve never seen something like it before, and it could’ve been friendly. I didn’t want to just shoot it without knowing that,” Cassi shrugged, keeping a wide grin on her face. This was all very new to her – she’d barely travelled outside of the borders of Westmarch and Shire before. It was exciting! Even the hunger and tiredness, which was part of the experience.

“We’re unlikely to bump into anything friendly,” Ted just snorted. He’d travelled more than enough to know that Southern Mirkwood wasn’t a friendly place.

Their group was small, as hobbits weren’t the kind of folk to investigate a matter that didn’t directly affect them. Cassi and Ted were here because of the disappearance of Roderic Fairbairn; friend of both. Cassi had managed to get an old acquaintance of hers to join, Adelard Took. She had said she knew him because the Fairbairns, Gamgees, Brandybuck and Tooks all still kept in close contact. How exactly she had roped him in to their little adventure, though, Ted did not know.

They’d been travelling for weeks, starting in the Shire and making their way over to Mirkwood. As soon as Ted had realised that Roderic had stopped sending letters he had begun to plan the journey – though the route he had first decided on was changed for a slightly slower, but also safer, one when others joined. That didn’t mean it had been easy.

“Do you think there will be other people investigating? How exciting would that be! We could collaborate with all sorts of people that we don’t know… And maybe even make some friends,” Cassi hadn’t lost the hop in her step even after days of travelling. Why would she? This was all so fun! “Although I do hope Roderic is alright… I’m glad I got to go on this trip. I’ve seen so much and-”

Ted cut her off with a sharp glare and a raised hand. He could hear voices up ahead.

“Wait here, I’m going to go take a look,” he whispered, Cassi noticing the speaking now that she had stopped her endless chatter. He nodded to her. “Have your bow ready just in case.”

“Wouldn’t it be better for me to go look, just in case,” Cassi’s skill with a bow did mean she could snipe someone if needed.

Ted shook his head. “You’re too noisy. Wait here.” He didn’t give them much chance to argue before he slipped off into the undergrowth.

Sighing slightly, Cassi put away her pipe and pulled her bow from her back. Hopefully there wouldn’t be any trouble. “I wonder who else is there. Maybe it’s fair folk! I would love to meet some of them,” she kept her voice to a hushed whisper, but kept up her constant talking – just now it was directed at Adelard instead of Ted.

“If it is, do you think they’ll be friendly?”

Luca is a friendly soul, one who enjoys time around other people the most. On the outside he is always bright and energetic, quick to talk and make others feel better where he can. Though kind and caring, not a person who would purposefully hurt another, he can often not properly think through what he says and can inadvertently cause offence. Along with that the way he acts can be very in people's face and overwhelming. Though very person orientated Luca tries not to depend on others, more because he wants to keep up the facade that he is always full of energy and not show how he actually feels. Just looking at him you wouldn't have thought that he was affected at all by not normally developing magic, though of course it was something he struggled with growing up - he just did it alone. Luca is also easily distracted and has a habit of never properly thinking things, meaning that he can do something on an impulse and have it blow up on his face. His quick reactions can help him here but it doesn't change the fact that he rarely goes into something with a plan, even when he should. It's not to say he isn't sensible, just likely to do something on a whim. Even with this if he finds something he really likes Luca will get stuck into it.

~ History ~

Luca was a cheerful child, born to two incredibly intelligent parents (even by current time standards) and with one older brother. He got on well with his family and was especially close to his brother, Sebastian. He was always a little bit odd, his high energy meant he struggled to just sit down and pursue the kinds of sciences a child was expected to have an interest in. Instead he would rather be running about, learning how to cartwheel and climbing whatever he could. His parents put up with it - they assumed that he would grow out of it, and all of his teachers thought it was the oddity of a blossoming genius. Between this and his bright personality he had no lack of friends. And he was smart, he just had no urge to act on it.

Slowly everyone his age began developing powers, and it seemed like everyday someone came in with one. Luca's brother had developed his own earlier than most, and Luca had looked forward to being one of the first in his class. But soon he was only one left without them. He was yet to go through the physical changes of puberty, though, so maybe he was just a slow developer? But the power never came. It came as a shock to all; after all who didn't develop powers? His parents tried everything to find out what was wrong as Luca slowly lost what friends he had, ostracized from most of the society. He bore it with a grin, though, only breaking down when spending time with Sebastian - the one person who stuck with him through it. He had no motivation to be academic before his power didn't develop, and even less after. Refusing to go to college caused a massive argument with his parents but he got his way. After all they had essentially given up hope on him and focused all their ambitions on his brother.

Luca got a simple job, baking, and threw himself into it. He found he enjoyed it if he tried at least and tried not to let the stigma get to him. He channelled his energy into a similar sportiness he'd had as a child - after all what did it matter if he did one more thing that wasn't approved of? It wasn't exactly an amazing life, but it couldve been worse.

In terms of the history I didn't mean it that way, I meant more one of the few who was yet to develop and then the others still got powers. But yeah that wording definitely does noooottt get this across so I shall change that and delete the last paragraph of the history as well :)

I'll change my CS and post it tomorrow, probably

Lihn just shrugged slightly at Penny as she mentioned the fact she didn't have much to offer, not seeming all that bothered by how passive aggressive some of what she said sounded. It wasn't like her annoyance wasn't well founded - Lihn had just made herself a very unmoving target earlier. She felt bad for what it had resulted in, and carrying Daniel wasn't am easy task even between the two of them.

They had to deal with the situation at hand, though, and there wasn't much else to do.

When another mutant appeared she was all but prepared to stop her general calming aura and force it's anger down, even if it just put her back to square one migraine wise. What she didn't expect was for Penny to suddenly... gain muscle? And throw a brick square into it. Well, that certainly helped the situation.

And then there were two others that Lihn didn't recognise, but Penny clearly did.

"Hey Penny!" Rori added all to cheerfully from where they stood beside Wendy. They were relatively unharmed, entirely thanks to their friend, and had a grim smile on their face. Bumping into Daniel and Penny seemed a stroke of luck - for both of them.

They listened carefully to the conversation, head tilted slightly and glancing at Lihn curiously before looking back at Wendy. "Sure thing, Wen, I've got your back. I'll scratch their eyes out or something."

Rori turned around so they could work backwards, wings spread out slightly. As painful as it could be if one came for them instead of Penny (who looked like she could probably handle them) Rori would rather it was her wings that got caught. There wasn't exactly any vital organs among the feathers. And if they could stop one of the creatures from getting to the other three that would be something of a success.

"If you need one of them distracted, Penny, I can do that," they added as a bit of afterthought. If they turned into a bird they'd be pretty hard to hit right?

Lihn raised an eyebrow at what was going on, nodding to Wendy slightly where she was supporting the other side of Daniel. Now wasn't the time to ask about these new two (not that she knew much about Penny and Daniel anyway). Instead she concentrated on helping Daniel walk, and reduced the area of the calming aura she was giving out - just so that it came down more heavily on the two mutants that had come at them. If she could reduce their anger, things would be a bit easier for Penny.

A circus like show, something that no one had put on for years, sounded thrilling to him. And so Luca threw himself into it, enjoying the newfound socialization with people who has grown up with him and how much energy he could put into his work. And it was nice to not be a failure, for once.
