OOC is up!

...the desert is the country of madness...it is the refuge of the devil, thrown out to wander in dry places. Thirst drives man mad, and the devil himself is mad with a kind of thirst for his own lost excellence- lost because he has immured himself in it and closed out everything else. So the man who wanders into the desert...must take care that he does not go mad and become the servant of the one who dwells there in a sterile paradise of emptiness and rage.

Welcome to Azoth.

Welcome to a world scarred by history, to a world broken by the wars of ancients known now only as the Old Ones. Who or what they were is mysterious even to the most learned, for they destroyed themselves in ages so distant only confused myths and legends remain.

Some tell of a race of gods descended from the stars, others of kingdoms of devils that dwell still in the wastelands and in the many hells below the earth. Azoth is strewn with the ruins of these advanced and strange peoples, haunted by ghosts and demons, warped and mutated by magic; it is a wasteland-world covered in deserts, poisonous jungles, caustic seas, irradiated plains, and the endless ruins of forgotten nations. Millenia have passed since the fall of the Old Ones, and societies have risen and fallen in their wake, defying the harsh realities of life in the endless Azothi wastes.

It is now the Year of the Setting Sun 8,014, as reckoned by the astrologers of the Dratha, and a new age is dawning. The mighty Salished Empire- for centuries the unrivaled superpower of the Rainlands- is teetering, its ruling Priest-Smiths desperate to regain their hold on power. The discovery and proliferation of gunpowder weaponry- arquebus, cannon, pistols- has challenged the might of Salished arms, swords forged of enchanted Soul Steel and wielded by spellswords of unrivaled skill. As client states and old foes begin to buck against the yoke of Salished dominance, a new power is rising across the Godsfang Mountains, a great horde of beastkin and barbarians, intent on the plunder and riches of the Rainlands.

Yours is a nation that has lived in the shadow of the failing Salished. Perhaps a client state or vassal kingdom, perhaps an ancient foe much beaten but never broken by the great Empire, perhaps a neutral trading power that has long played a delicate diplomatic game. Whatever your nations' history, the future is uncertain as the hegemon begins to fail and new threats rise in the wastelands.

About This RP

-GMs are @gorgenmast, @Kingfisher, @Pepperm1nts and @Flagg
-It is (grim)dark fantasy nation RP set in a harsh and unforgiving fantasy world living among the ruins of ancient, hyper advanced civilizations. Azoth is crawling with mutants and monsters. Resources are scarce. This is Lovecraft meets Tolkien meets...mad max?
-I'd like this to be an exercise in collaborative world building. That means that we want nations that feel like they inhabit a shared world. Players will collaborate heavily in designing their factions.
-It is low-medium fantasy: magic exists. It is powerful, dangerous, and rare. Rare.

-It is vaguely Renaissance tech. Cannons and arquebus are new military technology. There are a few exceptions to this.
-It has archeo-tech from a lost, highly advanced civilization is wielded by many.
-It has original fantasy races
-Inspired by Tolkien, Warhammer fantasy and 40K, Lovecraft, China Mieville, Morrowind, Song of Ice and Fire, Mad Max Fury Road...looking forward to seeing what others bring to the table.
- Advanced writing standards.

Rare Resources

Functioning Archeo-tech: found in the monster and demon haunted ruins of the Old Ones. Archeo-tech comes in a variety of forms due to the variety of ancient civilizations on Azoth.

Ichor: Some in the Scholams claim that our world has been cursed, impregnated by demons, and that Ichor is the seed of fallen gods and ancient monsters, seeping up from some vast, accursed womb. A black, viscous fluid with dangerous mutagenic properties in its unrefined state, Ichor is most frequently found among the ruins of the Old Ones and of course in the polluted waters of the Dread Sea. Refined Ichor in liquid and crystal form has an immense variety of uses, from powering archeo-tech to use as a key ingredient to many potions and spells. Some sorcerers despise the use of Ichor in magic as amateurish, but its effectiveness is undeniable. Warlocks among the beastkin are known to ingest raw Ichor, thus vastly increasing their power, though with often unpredictable results for themselves...

Also interested, if you fancy an extra pair of hands.

Would love to have you. Will PM you the link to the PiratePad where gorgenmast and I have been hashing some plans out.
@agentmanatee We ought to be. I've not heard anything from him for a bit, so... @Flagg, get on with it, please.

@agentmanatee & @POOHEAD189

Hi all, I really apologize for my radio silence and delays on this. I've been busy with some unexpected health issues in my family- nothing too serious, but I havent been able to get on RPG very much or had time to myself to write. Hopefully in the next couple of days I'll get some free time- but I appreciate everyone's patience and continued interest.
still here!
Reporting in.

Alrighty. One is basically all I need. PMing you a pirate pad and we can figure this shit out!
Howdy,

I'm looking for 1-2 others who may be interested in co-GMing with me a fantasy nation/faction/worldbuilding RP set in what I hope will be a unique and memorable setting. We would do some relatively light world building between us to set the rough framework for the kind of RP we want to run, and then open it up to 3-5 more players.

I've learned that I greatly benefit from working with others to GM RPs, so if you're interested in working with me, let me know! I've written with SO many people on RPG during my time here, I know I could tag a bunch of friends who I'd love to work with on this, but I think I'll hold off for now- I know there are lotsa people on this site I've yet to meet who might find this interesting.

Some thoughts on the kind of RP I'd like this to be:

-It is (grim)dark fantasy set in a harsh and unforgiving land crawling with mutants and monsters. This is Lovecraft meets Tolkien.

-It has archeo-tech from a lost, highly advanced civilization
-It has original fantasy races
-For these kinds of things, I tend to like fictions inspired by Tolkien, Warhammer fantasy and 40K, Lovecraft, China Mieville, Morrowind, Song of Ice and Fire...looking forward to seeing what others bring to the table.
- Advanced writing standards.

Let me know if you're interested!
@agentmanatee & @POOHEAD189 Accepted!

@mattmanganon please PM Arichael's history to @BCTheEntity and I

@Archangel89 would love to have you join us, but couldn't accept a incomplete CS for an inquisitor. Feel free to submit a non-Inquisitorial character tho- we need those!

First post up tonight hopefully.
The body turned slowly in the faint morning breeze. Face purple, eyes open and staring, tongue protruding like a runway for the flies buzzing around his face.

"Think it was the Hanged Men?" said Whyte, lighting a cigarette.

Captain Rizzo frowned, "All you Bureau guys smart asses?"

He was leaning on one of the half dozen squad cars parked around the scene, enjoying his own cig. Besides closing off the street, SSPD seemed pretty non-nonchalant about the situation. No one had yet shown up to cut the dead man down.

"Not all of us are smart," said Whyte, exhaling smoke through a nose slightly crooked from an old break, "When'd you boys find this guy?"

" 'bout an hour after the deed was done," said Rizzo, "Name's Santini. No known affiliations."

"Santini's an Italian name," said Whyte, "just like yours, Cap."

"And just what the hell is that supposed to mean?" asked Rizzo.

Agent Whyte raised both eyebrows and stuck his hands in his pockets, "I'm with the Bureau for the Regulation of Magic."

"I know where you're from," said Captain Rizzo, puzzled but still annoyed.

"That is to say, I'm not with the FBI," said Whyte, "Criminality, per se, doesn't interest me none. Drug-smuggling, corruption, graft, that sorta thing. Not my area. As you prob'ly could tell by the name, we specialize in magical crimes. The sorta crimes committed by, say, the Hanged Men. Not so much crimes by local gangs or, uh, mafias."

"I think I follow, Special Agent," said Rizzo.

"Glad to hear it, Cap," said Whyte, pulling a flask from his jacket and offering it to the other man. Rizzo considered for a minute, then took a long pull. Whyte took the flask back and did the same, wiping a trickle of booze from his chin with the back of his hand.

That Afternoon, Delmonico's

Whyte knocked on the bar and his empty martini glass was replaced with a full one. He threw the barkeep a wink. She was pretty, if you liked Italians. And Whyte liked 'em just fine.

"Takes stones for a Fed to come in here," she said, "Drink's on the house."

"Appreciate that, doll."

She shrugged, "Seems only right, might be your last one."

Whyte shrugged back and sipped his cocktail, "Live dangerously or don't live at all."

"Family motto?"

"Nah, I just made that one up," he said, taking another sip of his drink, "You know, this is really quite delicious. Won't you have one?"

Whyte swept an arm at the empty bar and the mostly empty restaurant behind him, "Hardly anyone here but us."

"You think that's true?"

"Not really," said Whyte, "I'm good at my job."

He lit a cigarette as Giovanni Riina sauntered out from the back room. Late fifties, dressed in a blue suit. A serious looking man. Trim, greying mustache and dark eyes.

"Camilla," he said to the barkeep, "A drink for me, what he's having."

He sat down next to Whyte. Neither man offered their hand.

"I don't like Feds in my establishment, talking up my daughter," he said.

"What do you like, Mr. Riina?"

"These days? I like dead vampires and dead porno junkies."

Whyte smiled and sipped his drink.

Hey all,

Just writing to confirm I'm 100% still around, just have not had the time to post. Will try to have all the CSes reviewed by tomorrow.
