I explained it to Lily earlier... Basically, I'm like a human sponge for magic... I absorb way too much from surroundings. I'm a danger both to myself and people around me. The seal allows me to sort of get a better control of it. Think of it like a nozzle at the end of a hose. That sort of thing.

There are ways to transfer mana to others, like using potions. But for us, magic is a destructive force that can be used regardless of whether a caster has mana, and mana is a protection that allows us to cast without being harmed.

Wait, is that why you got mana poisoning when Lily possessed you? I'm still not quite sure how to make sense of it. I've never heard of such a thing in my world.

I got magic poisoning because she presumably used magic while I was out of commission and mana drained. In our world, magic is a destructive force. Mana protects casters from the magic ravaging their bodies. When a caster is out of mana, then bad things happen.

Our world was... Well, to answer the second question, we're both from the same world, in a sense. There, we had both a physical and spirit realm, full of greater and lesser spirits that aim to become superior spirits. Lesser spirits like Lily have to possess someone with a huge reservoir of mana to complete that evolution. Someone like a hero.

I have an unusually small capacity for mana. To compensate, I learned when I was young how to channel magic through catalysts, like this metal. Channeling isn't all that uncommon, but it can make a mage appear to have much more mana than they actually do. Lily, being an airhead, didn't bother checking my actual mana levels and possessed me. When I ran out of mana, she couldn't use me as a host anymore and we've been stuck like this ever since.

I've never been much of a storyteller... We fought a small fire elemental dragon a few days ago. With the help of some other party members, we created a huge vacuum around the dragon and snuffed it out without ever engaging in combat.

The food was great. The prisons, not so much.
