To say that Isabel stood on the edge of the ruins would be inaccurate, because the ruins never ended. All of Crumbleport was an amalgamation of ruined, ancient structures, tumbledown but more recent buildings, and brand new construction. The "ruins" stretched from the coast, well into the jungle, and as Crumbleport shared no borders with other principalities, nobody had ever bothered to define exactly where it ended. And yet Isabel stood on the edge of something. Maybe it wasn't the edge of the ruins, and maybe it wasn't the border of Crumbleport, but it was some imaginary line. Some line that, it was understood, marked the barrier between safety and uncertainty. It looked no different from the rest of the town. There was no line, no sudden dropping or even a sudden increase in foliage. Nearest anyone could figure, the watchtower stretching out of the trees to her right(held up more by magic than by mortar these days) was the furthest one could walk without being prepared for danger. Isabel was as prepared for danger as she could be. She had practiced a few spells, and the Bottle on her back had just one prepared spell preserved inside of it. It was a kinetic field, which she could activate at a moment's notice, to protect her from attack, or a structural collapse or something like that. The rest of the Bottle's cells she left empty, to capture ancient magic for further study. She also carried a brand new leather bound notebook, held on a chain from her belt, to keep track of anything she needed to notate. Currently the only words in it were the day's date at the top of the first page. She wished she could bring a scribe student. When working at the University, there was an abundance of scribes in training who were perfectly willing to write down anything you said just to practice their calligraphy. But none were willing to go where she was going. Isabel took a final breath of safe air and then stepped forward, eyes scanning wildly around as she did so. When nothing happened, she took another step, and another. She smiled, pulled her notebook from her side and wrote: "Three steps in. Not dead yet." Then she continued walking.
Dana laughed in return, but nervously. "Well maybe. You don't know him like I do. That's my brother, in case you didn't gather. Jackson. He's got something up his bum, but I don't know what."
Does anyone have a particular desire to make the first post? If someone wants to go first, then they should go ahead, otherwise I'll step up and get things started. So, Dusk, what do you think of Crumbleport U?
Read two posts up from yours...
@Ink-berry@Ves@RumikoOhara@Dragonbud@Apoalo@WeepingLiberty Just trying to bump everyone, make sure you all see that we're moving again.
Well he's said that there's no official GM. I don't know if we're running as a functional democracy or what. I'm also not sure who's going to come up with the first post.
Pardon the delay, I do hope you're all in this still. I have shunted us forward.
The First Years were easily the most bleary eyed the following morning. Arriving at the school was for many the most exciting moment of their life thus far, and the First Year dorms all over the school were abuzz with conversation late into the night. Breakfast in the great hall the next morning was roughly half as lively as the start of term feast. The heads of houses bustled about the tables(hindered somewhat by the encouraged mixing of houses) to hand out class schedules, which many First Years looked upon in awe. Slytherins had Defense Against the Dark Arts with Hufflepuff first. Professor Clowers, the students learned was a black man somewhere in his thirties. He sported a shaved head and a tremendous, bushy beard. Though the students knew him to be a former auror, and a renowned warrior, he was very surprisingly short and thin. His reputation, it could be surmised, was earned through prowess rather than intimidating physique. He spoke warmly and with great energy, and his first lesson was focused heavily on philosophy rather than practice or even theory. He spoke emphatically about the dangers of the Dark Arts, and how most of the darkest wizards believed their cause to be in the right. "The darkness of a spell," he told the students, with an air as though this was a subject very important to him, "Is inherent. You cannot use the unforgivable curses for good. There's no good reason to inflict them upon someone, that's simply a fact. That is the reason those curses were deigned, 'unforgivable.' There are Aurors who will use them, and perfectly within the law, as they are allowed in extreme circumstances, but I have endeavored not to." ~~~ When lunch came, the students poured into the Great Hall with a new mixture of emotions. Some were still just as excited as the night before, but many were more somewhat disgruntled, having already been given homework. Most were somewhere in the middle. Jax made a beeline for the Hufflepuff table, and sat down next to his brother, speaking immediately. "You had dada?" he pronounced the acronym phonetically. "What'd ya think?" "Er, well... I like Professor Clowers?" Dana answered in a questioning tone. His brother was clearly after something, but he didn't give it away. Jax huffed and got right back up and walked to the Slytherin table instead. He tapped Aeden on the shoulder. "Oi, Cuz, wha'd'ya think o' Clowers?"
I'm not doing all of my work at once, but I've added in bits of the CU's curriculum to the CS page. It's in a separate hider.
