As Cadmus approaches the children and Meli to interpose himself between them, the children instinctively move away from Meli in order to get away from Cadmus. After he spoke the first three words and stared at the middle child, the very child speaks up, "We-We were just--!" But his words fail him.
Cadmus continues speaking. After he gave the order, the children all look to each other, and they start scrambling to get away. They do indeed run away from Cadmus, Garrick, and Meli, without another word of protest from them.
Meli looks up to Cadmus, and she nods to him gratefully. She speaks quietly, "Thank you, Cad..."
The horses are already stabled, and Garrick places the tags on the gear. After Cadmus informed them about Elena and Isolde holding a table for the party, Meli nods in agreement, ad Garrick speaks, "Aye. It is getting quite brisk out here,"
Sure enough, the tavern's ambience inside has not changed. Cadmus, Garrick, and Meli find that the table Elena and Isolde are holding for them is a corner table, with a booth against the wall to form seats in an L shape for the wall, with three chairs up against the table.
The table already has numerous plates of food and drinks on the table: Meats, vegetables, breads and glasses of water and mead. The food is standard fare, but it is a welcome meal for Cadmus's friends after a long day of journeying and eating rations.
Kalila blinks at Garrek's words. He doesn't think the shadowed figure is one of the Vultures? But then...the Vultures sounded like a bunch of rogues. She wouldn't be surprised if stealth and subterfuge is part of their methods and they just hadn't been caught yet...
Before she could say anything to him, Miller clears his throat. She immediately turns to face him once more, her eyes darting between him and the hall behind him, to make sure the shadow wasn't coming out. She raises an eyebrow as he bites the gold coins to test them. When he asked his suspicions, she answers him, with eyes wide with surprise from the accusation. She answers him, "Miller, you give me too much credit when it comes to magic. I do not even know how to accomplish that! No, my business with you is genuine,"
She considered what to do next, and she decided that Garrek was right. She needed to tell him, and being direct is now a necessity at this point. She just needed to be careful that the shadow doesn't hear her.
She approaches closer to the counter, and she gestures him to move closer. She does glance to the back hall to see if the shadow comes out. She whispers to Miller, "I apologize for the confusion, but I was trying to tell you earlier: Someone is in your back room. You may be in danger if we leave you alone,"

Mei's origins were deceptively normal to begin with. As an infant, she was adopted by the couple she now considers as her mother and father. There was no information on where Mei's origins before she was placed into the system to be adopted to begin with. Regardless, it didn't matter to Mei for the longest time. However, as time passed and Mei grew up, her adoptive parents would notice several unusual things.
Mei's hair and eyes lightened from black to a more golden hue, and she often spoke of her dreams in great detail. Upon researching the dreams, they found that they somewhat matched the events that took place in 'Journey to the West' from the Monkey King's perspective. It was odd that the child had never heard or read the story before, and got the general premise correct in those dreams.
Her mutant or other strange, ancient nature truly reveals itself when the tail appeared one morning. Suffice to say, that morning was pure pandemonium as Mei and her parents screamed in panic and confusion. Because of the tail, it became clear that Mei couldn't go to school with everyone else anymore. So, her parents decided to enroll her into the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.
Palasha raised an eyebrow and answers, "Is that so...? I appreciate your efforts and consideration," She does indeed seem to stare at Miss Light a little longer than normal, scrutinizing her carefully, before she turns her attention to the kenku. She asks the Kenku, "Why have you been sabotaging the carnival? I know it isn't just my songs you've been heckling,"
The Kenku answers, stringing various mimicked words to create the sentence, "Because...My patron...hasn't said anything! You...should know...what happened...to her!"
Palasha sighs and answers, "I'm afraid we don't. That is a matter you would have to take up with--"
"They already turned me away!" The Kenku responds quickly before Palasha could continue. "They turned me away. They won't say...anything!"
"I see..." Palasha answers after a moment of silence. She then states, "Then to make up for the trouble you caused, you'll have to help clean up around the carnival and perform back up. The other hands will make sure that you do not cause any trouble,"
She looks to Miss Light and Morgran and she speaks to them, "Thank you. Thank you very much!"
Also as a heads up guys, I have edited in ambient music for the beginning of Chapter 3. I realized I've been forgetting to include the music lately. Sorry about that. ^^"
I'm gonna also go back and add the music for Bavlorna's Cottage where you guys first appeared there. ^^"
"Anytimeanytime! Pleasedon'thesitatetoletmeortherestofthestaffknowifthereisanythingyouneedduringyourstay. Alsopleasebesuretoletusknowhowlongyou'llbestayingwithusasitwillbeonegoldandfivesilverpernight," Pacer answers Cadmus quickly. Just after saying so another patron calls out to him, "Oi! Pacer! Another round here!"
"OfcourseI'monmyway!" Pacer calls back and he immediately hops back to work, filling glasses rapidly and bringing them over to a group at a table.
Elena and Isolde nod to Cadmus at his request, and after a quick glance around, Isolde speaks up, "We'll be at that corner table. It looks big enough for all five of us to sit," Elena and Isolde move to the table in question while Cadmus heads out.
When Cadmus makes it outside, he would notice that Garrick is speaking with the stable hands there, while Meli has three children surrounding her. All of them seem to be staring at her curiously. The eldest is asking a lot of questions, while the middle and younger children seem to be poking and prodding at her. Meli is still not her usual, exuberant self even with the kids around. She winces as the younger kids poke and prod at her. The youngest child even pulls at her own tail and her long hair, to which she lets out a surprised bleat and swats the youngest child away.
Garrick, Meli, and the Stable Hand look to Cadmus as he approaches with the tags. Garrick answers him, "Ah! That's great! Thank you, Cadmus," He looks to the Stable Hand, and he asks, "I trust our horses will be properly brushed and tended to? If not, I'll be sure to let the owner know of what I observed..."
The stable hand sighs, clearly tired, "Of course, of course. I won't disregard your...pointers, in the matter of caring for your steeds,"
The children, meanwhile, are still surrounding Meli, clearly not intent on letting her leave.
"Don't you sleep in the stables? Or do you sleep in inns, like we do?" "Do you eat hay or other plants? Do you eat meat?"
