I'm having way too much fun with my Legend of Zelda Encylopedia. This is the game that got me into roleplaying so have a lot invested in it's lore and stories. Too bad can't have all the games too.

Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande plays on my head when I read Julianna's post.

Ha ha, had to look up the song for myself. Can't say I liked the song itself but I certainly can easily tell why it stuck.
@Themerlinhawk That backstory gave Julianna the perfect excuse to a little Q&A with the buff guy.

Yeah, I intended on having Marianne chat with Julianna

Sounds good but first Julianna needs to have a chat with your dinner partner.
While many were preoccupied with dwarven hospitality Julianna had already started to mingle with the guests, careful to keep an eye and ear on her surroundings. It did not take long for her to notice the red-eyed child for instance, the immortal knight who seemed to have gotten...younger? Probably a side effect of being undead though certainly a strange one. In any case it would be interesting to see how many of the nobles could manage to realize who she was. She certainly seemed a lot less intimidating without her armor.

Of course her keen ears also picked up on a certain title belonging to one of their most robust knights. "To think that Sir Garett was actually in line for a throne of sorts, certainly more than a few nobles took notice though most of them no doubt wouldn't consider those clans as being anything noteworthy." Julianna mused to herself as she laughed at a dry joke given by a young man of nobility. She had long mastered the art of auto piloting in social arenas so she could observe her surroundings, also so she could effectively get away from the more monotonous of conversations.

"Forgive me but I must speak with a colleague of mine but thank you for a marvelous time." With a slow curtsy to the young man Julianna made her way over to the barbarian, sort-of prince. He certainly didn't mesh well with the majority of the guests with all his ivory and animal bones but in essence his attire just made him like a foreign dignitary. As he probably would not be all that interested in the festivities and politics it was a good time to have a quick chat.

There was also the extra blessing that not too many of the crowded population would bother to approach him so in a way he made a decent little air bubble to take a breather from the ball, not that she needed one already but once she really got engaged, no doubt her chance would be long gone.

She managed to make her way over near him and said, "I'm afraid most of the alcohol here is probably rather light for your tastes." Frankly, it looked like the man was attempting to use the drink as a means of escaping but he would have to drink a lot more than that to be effective.

"So Sir Garett, or perhaps count would be better?" She could not help but joke a little since he seemed a little distraught at his full title being used. "You were quite the hero during the last battle, if not for your intervention things could have ended rather badly." Julianna gave a meaningful look over to Fanilly as she spoke. The young captain could have possible died if it had not been for Sir Garett getting to her side as fast as she did.

Julianna snagged a small glass of what appeared to be a sherry and started to twirl the liquid gently in the vessel. "I will be blunt, I do find it rather interesting that a man such as you joined our order. You are certainly a strong knight and we are glad to have you though, if you really are in line to be a Jarl, would it not be in your best interests to be back with your people to try and solidify your claims? Being with the Iron Rose Knights seems a little counter productive to that aim."

It was a very straightforward question to be sure, but probably the man was much more accustomed to bluntness so she was trying to keep her court face to a minimum in her interaction with him. She had to admit, she was quite curious after hearing his full title. She gazed down at her glass and started to circle the rim with her middle finger, making sure not to make any noises however as she was just doing it to amuse herself a bit.
@AtomicNut

Too bad, I was looking forward to Nero messing things up.

Well, I think I really need some character interaction with Julianna during this party so any takers? Good character development opportunities and all that.
Hopefully I'm fairly on track with the whole political aspect but if there's anything you want to point out @VitaVitaAR then I'm all ears.

Thinking I might have her parents show up some time during the festivities to spice things up a bit for a little character development and potentially plot as well.
Julianna had handed over her servants to Tyaethe for use, had at least gone out for the initial trip but then had quickly proceeded to her chambers to prepare for the ball. The royal courts were a battle field one had to prepare for, almost religiously as every action one made would reflect upon the person, their family, and their faction. So obviously the first major step was to be properly dressed for the occasion.

While her servants dolled her up with cosmetics, perfumes, styling, and all manner of cosmetic improvements they also selected dresses for the event. As befitted the daughter of a quickly rising household there was quite a variety to choose from, custom tailored and expensive of course. It was an absolute waste of money to be sure but in order to effectively play the game, one had to look the part and her parents had made sure that was always the case.

From all the different manner of dress Julianna quickly narrowed down to two. First there was a pearled white gown, a simple but elegant gown that would no doubt suite the taste of many in attendance. The white dress would match marvelously with her moonlight hair and the bare shoulders would help give emphasis to her lovely dark skin. The white also symbolized purity and would give her the impression of being humble as well as match her family name as a Silvern.

The other option was a much more extravagant yellow dress adored with a few yellow gemstones such as Topaz and Beryl. A mixture of white lace and frills with the golden color made for quite an impact and would be a testament to her family's rise to power. Admittedly it was certainly a much more fun dress to wear though perhaps she might come off as a bit too proud. This dress would certainly not emphasis her skin as much but would still complement her hair quite well.

Julianna allowed herself a sigh in the presence of her family maids, sometimes it would be nice to be able to just pick whatever she wanted to wear without having to think about the message she would be giving to other people.

"My lady, you must decide soon if we are to be fully prepared in time." Came a gentle, but firm reminder that a decision needed to be made.

"Of course, I suppose I will go with..."

In the end, Julianna had decided to go with the yellow dress. While perhaps a bold move, it was time to start flaunting that growing political power a little. Nobles tended to like those who shone confidently, giving the impression that they would be great leaders. While there were also those that preferred the more refined and reserved look that could also give the impression you were a follower rather than a leader. There were those who could use the pure look and still have a commanding and powerful presence but Julianna had to admit she was not quite there yet, so she would have to make it up cosmetically.

Julianna walked gracefully alongside Fanilly and the rest of the Iron Rose Knights who had a wide variety of 'formal' standards. Julianna observed everything around her while appearing to be the perfect lady. As the Herald announced each of the knights arrival, Julianna paid particular attention to the crowd's reaction. Some of the knights were treated with respectful gazes, lower born were, for the most part, given mock praise or even openly turned their noses up at them, Julianna herself was treated mostly to outright praise and admiration, especially from the replacement faction though there were also stern gazes and judging looks from the traditional faction who no doubt thought of her as a mere puppet of the change faction.

Fanilly was a interesting case to be certain, needless to say at first glance it was pretty much the opposite reaction to her own heralding, basically the opposite reactions from the two factions. Now, the thing was there were quite a few on the fence nobles and dignitaries that were still unsure of the little captain so it was most interesting to see their reactions. Most of them were very cordial and even seemed joyous at seeing the captain up close but it seemed that the word of what happened during the battle had spread throughout the entire court already, there were plenty of faces that seemed to be hiding their discomfort at the small captain's latest performance; while certainly a great victory the fact that so many dangerous situations had occurred precisely because of Fanilly's inexperience had made people think quite a bit about if she could be molded into a great captain.

It was a start to the seeds of distrust among the neutral camps but it was of course too early in the game to really persuade them one way or the other.

Julianna was about to start her family duty of mingling with the crowd when she was greeted to a most amusing sight. Not a minute into the hall and Fanilly had already been greeted in a most embarrassing fashion. Of course in dwarvin culture it was just a highly friendly greeting, totally acceptable but even so, in the royal court no less! Julianna had to turn her face away quickly to avoid the possibility that her court face might crack into even the slightest smile. Thankfully she managed to succeed but she had a good laugh on the inside anyway.
@Raineh Daze

As a person who loves their sour fruits, limes and lemons, I wholeheartedly approve this mission of hustling mass amounts of limes. Oh the delights that can be produced from nature's most delicious bounty!

...I need another lemon drop. XD

As you can tell Julianna is an extreme overthinker, comes with having all her family's hopes and dreams pinned upon her young shoulders.
As her question was answered by Sir Tiral it came back pretty much as she expected. He was not comfortable with such situations and would no doubt be quite beside himself when the time came. Julianna started to consider offering to help him out with the whole affair when Dame 'Immortal' decided to step into the conversation, something about procuring a mountain of limes.

Now, limes were a delectable fruit and garnish of which Julianna actually had quite a bit of fondness for, sour things had always suited her taste for some reason, much more than delectable sweets. The suddenness and seemingly randomness of the proclamation took her aback for a bit, why would she need so many limes to prepare something for a royal ball of all things? Didn't it have enough food and delights to feed the entire city? Besides, did she even eat at all, considering she was undead?

It took only a moment or two before a light lit up in her head, of course she was just being her usual overprotective self and no doubt planned to use a delivery to gain greater access to the premises and be the best guardian she could be. For someone who wore armor all the time she could be painfully transparent. Well, in any case they certainly couldn't go wrong with whatever delight the limes would be used for at the ball.

Certainly there were easier ways to go about this but in the end it probably didn't matter. As her thought concluded, Sir Tiral made his escape, citing health reasons and she was left with the oldest knight in the order.

"Goodbye Sir Tiral. I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think." She waved as he departed then turned to the lime addict, an addiction she totally approved of.

"Well then Dame Tyaethe, let me just procure some of my servants for the occassion so we can procure a sufficient amount of delicious limes. Every party can use some improvement after all."

She just hoped the lime gathering wouldn't take too long, as she had to give herself enough time to be fully prepared for the ball herself. It wouldn't do for a proud member of the Silvern family to appear before her highness unprepared and unadorned.
It had been a busy trek back to the capital with all the thieves in tow and Julianna had plenty of duties to keep her occupied. Keeping prisoners in line, finding her black steed, reports, cleaning off her weapons and armor as best she could, and of course getting in touch with one of her family's secret couriers to pass over the spearhead to. Thankfully there were no real surprises on their way back so things went along fairly smoothly.

They had made it back to the Iron Rose Knights headquarters and the prisoners were being duly processed. Julianna took only a moment to take in the Candaeln. It was an impressive structure in its own right, the architect and decorators sure knew what they were doing when the building was constructed. What was most impressive about it was its close proximity to the Royal Castle.

There were few orders who had the honor of being so close to royalty and it just showed you how much the Iron Rose Knights were trusted by the rulers of their fair land. The Iron Rose Knights had to make sure they remained the steadfast protectors of Royal Family. If the Rose Knights started to fail under bad leadership though, their positions would soon be in question. This was something Julianna had to make sure never happened.

Julianna stepped inside the structure along with several over knights, such as Marianna, Garret, and of course captain Fanilly. The captain gave her orders and the knights started to go their own ways, heading to their rooms, the bathes, or other places. Julianna decided to just stay around for a bit and soak in the legends of the Iron Rose Knights in her favorite display cases and portraits. They always became a reminder for her of just what the Iron Rose Knights should be and the legacy she was destined to protect.

There was one particular portrait that she was especially fond of, that of Dame Yulisa. It was a very striking portrait of an armored woman with a kind expression on her face. She was not particularly beautiful, with short, brown hair, rather sharp features, and even some battle-scars that marred her homely features, but her story was quite inspiring.

Dame Yulisa was known for her bravery against the fiercest of odds, her selfless spirit that often put her in great danger to help out her fellow knights, and her kindness to all those around her. Her loyalty had been exceptional as well, one of her crowning legends had been following her captain's orders to defend a choke point to prevent enemies from coming in and pillaging a small village requesting assistance. As the story went, her captain was delayed in reinforcing her position due to some unwelcome interference and she had been stuck there a whole five days longer than she should have.

Five days with no extra supplies, no real time to rest, and constantly having to fend off attackers. Dame Yulisa tried her best and somehow managed to hold out long enough for the knights to arrive and save the day, though not before Dame Yulisa had been severely wounded. Dame Yulisa died two days later but she was forever remembered as the bulwark that saved a village and prevented their enemies from gaining a foothold in their territory.

Dame Yulisa could have abandoned her position but her determination and resolve to follow her orders won through. Dame Yulisa was selfless and loyal to a fault, believing in her commander to the bitter end. Julianna wished she could believe in someone like that as well, but so far no one had appeared that deserved her undying loyalty, not yet anyway. If she could not serve someone like that then the only option left was to become a person that could inspire others, like the previous captain had been for Dame Yulisa.

As she was musing she realized a messenger had come to the door. Sir Tiral went over to answer and Julianna found herself heading over to the messenger as well. It turned out to be an invitation to Princess Eliabelle Tanenway Falthaen's Royal Ball for Captain Fanilly and her Iron Rose Knights. It seemed the captain would be required to be in full armor though whoever accompanied her could dress how they wished, though weapons seemed recommended.

"We will be sure to deliver the message as soon as possible." Julianna gave a nod to the messenger then turned to Tiral. "Well now this is a pleasant surprise. Tell me Sir Tiral, how confident are you in the social arena? It is not often one gets the chance to attend a Royal Ball after all but I certainly know it can be quite intimidating if you are unfamiliar with the setting."

Julianna decided to ask the ice mage knight this with genuine curiousity as he did not seem to be one with much experience with the high social-life. As someone who was raised to be adept at such events she was somewhat interested to see what he thought of their sudden invitation.
Julianna was quite taken aback when she felt a hand on her shoulder as well as the harsh criticism that followed.

"You are not captain yet, nor are you of a leadership position within the Order or this battlefield. Do not go issuing commands as if any of these things are the case."

Juliana looked back and realized who the man was quite quickly, Iowerth Rhydderch, a noble from a much older house than her own though perhaps not as influential at this point in time. In any event he was certainly not someone to ignore. At first Julianna felt quite angry at this chastisement but then he continued with some good advice.

"It would be wisest not to show your ambition too openly before you've gained more support."

He was right of course, she grudgingly admitted to herself and thankfully do to her training had managed to remain calm throughout the entire talk. She took a breathe to calm herself, this was acting ratherly foolishly at the moment; although in her defense most of the 'leaders' at the moment had been occupied so she was just temporarily filling the role until they could take over. Still, it was the prudent course of action to step back in line for now.

Julianna nodded in acknowledgement and replied quietly, "You are right of course, it seems I forgot myself during this course of events." Julianna rebuked herself internally for acting so out of line, despite her experience in court and other minor battlefields she had let the adrenaline get to her and effect her judgement. Despite the nastiness of having been rebuked she was grateful for the man reminding her of her ultimate goal, and what was needed to obtain it.

Having said her peace she made sure not to say anymore as she returned to just being a knight of the order as the battle was being wound up. A captain had to be able to take criticism with poise and respect after all. A lesson was learned that Julianna was sure to not forget again.

"Obey flags of surrender! No quarter to the rest!"

Came the man's voice which had the power of a noble's command to it. At this point things were pretty much over and before long everyone was starting to come back together as Jeremiah was killed by some pretty flashy magic, a pity he couldn't be captured but it couldn't be helped.

The day was won, now it was just the aftermath to deal with.
