Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

The guards kept their weapons at the ready even as "Koran" and Askia explained their mission. "You show up with a kobold and a Beholder of all things in your group, led by one of those thieving drakes, and then you claim to come as a messenger of our self-proclaimed 'steward.' After all this, you claim your intentions are peaceful?" The head guard shook his head. "I find that difficult to believe."

One of the female guards stepped forward, placing her hand on the shoulder of the trident-bearing guard. "Come now, Lucian, they do not appear to be threatening us. Their weapons are not brandished at us, and they appear more surprised than anything else at your hostility. My guess is they are unaccustomed to these parts."

Lucian shrugged her hand off his shoulder, still pointing his trident toward the group. After a moment, he sighed and lowered his weapon. "I have little trust for any who bear that monster's brand," he added, gesturing towards Jill. "Some of those in this area agree with me. Some do not. I would be careful about who you show that to."

The female guard nodded, swimming forward a few feet to place herself ahead of Lucian. "You may call me Cythia. We would be pleased if you would allow me to accompany you while you are in this city. Apologies, but you are not the first newcomers that Bledig has deceived into aiding him on one inane task or another. Please, allow me to show you around."
I believe @The Grey Dust is up in init, and then it would be @The Mighty Hero, unless I misread that.
With the tiefling's healing incantation, the drake snarled and turned its attention to Daisy. The fire burned in its eyes as it struck forward, lunging at her with its maw. Daisy barely avoided its bite as the teeth glanced off her chain shirt, tearing slightly at the overshirt she wore. Its tail swung around in its fury, but Daisy deftly ducked under it as she fed the potion to Yvah, serving only to anger the drake further. "Stay still and die!" it hollered.

@The Mighty Hero If you get a chance, would you be able to add an Init tracker to a 0th post somewhere so we can know when we're up?
Can someone explain how using this sites die roller works? I assume we'll be needing to roll initiative soon.

You have to create a new dice campaign. Then you type your roll like 1d20+5. Don't add any spaces into the dice or it won't roll. You can then describe your roll in the other box, such as "Ada Initiative." It will spit out a result and a link. You can copy the link and paste it into your post.

As an example (and also my Init roll):
Ada Initiative: 1d20+4 = 14
Are there enemies visible from the (now-broken) front door that I can attack from outside? If so, should we roll up Init? Also, do you have any more information on location of enemies or a battle map? @The Mighty Hero

Gone.... Kimiko stared after the mass of pink and green and death, nearly every ounce of her will being drained from her. He's... he's gone... She had done what she could, even put herself in harm's way for him, and it was all for naught. She stood still, staring at the evil that surrounded them, unable to force herself to move, even in self-defense.
Whoosh!

Kimiko felt herself being forced aside as a searing wall of flame charged past. For the first time since the insectoid monsters had appeared, Kimiko looked around, finally seeing the full state of the danger they were in. This new arrival had arrived barely in time to keep her from becoming little more than a pile of ashes, while Kagami's aggression held little sway over these foes. Indeed, there was almost nothing that Kimiko could do. They were dead.

"We need to run." The suggestion was simple, especially for one such as Yamamoto Kaede, the President of the drama club. Kimiko expected no less from the head of such an organization, although the exercise would certainly end in futility. If one knew that fighting was impossible, flight was the natural secondary response. What happened when flight also proved useless?

In either case, now was not the time to argue. Kimiko simply nodded and began running, the destination up to Kaede. She cared little about what happened now. Alex was dead. Suzune would follow. And then they would come for her. There was nothing she could do.

They would all die here, immolated, bitten, destroyed.

Defeated.

"What is your name, my child?"

Kimiko glanced around. Kaede was not looking at her. Alex was nowhere to be seen. No other male voices were around. She stopped running, letting the others continue on their path. "My... my name... My name is..." How had she forgotten something so simple? Something her father had called her every day of her life. And her mother... Why couldn't she remember her mother? And her father... he was tall? Kimiko shook her head, forcing the cobwebs away that pulled her from the despair in her heart. "No... I can remember. I will remember! My father is a great priest of the Dawn! I am his daughter, the priestess of Amaterasu! My name... it is...
"I am Maita Kimiko, Dancer of the Dawn, and Bringer of the Sun! You shall know my name!"

She shouted, the anger, frustration, and despair all leaving through her words. She stood facing the creatures that followed, steadfast in the hallway, her resolve once again returning to her. Unbidden, she spoke the words at the same time she heard them, as if reciting a phrase she had learned long ago. Her body moved, her feet taking the stances she had practiced so many times, wielding the practice blade before her.

@JBRam2002 They are prone. I was under the impression that to get up from prone would either cost them their free action or half of their movement speed for that turn (I've had DMs who had it do both simultaneously and that seemed highly unfair). The other reasoning (on my part) for it requiring a free action is that they are in a confined space so limiting their movement doesn't seem like much of a disadvantage.

In 5e, there isn't really a limit on the number of free actions you take, as long as it makes sense. You can only take one free action of a single type, however. So using a free action isn't a penalty at all. The movement penalty is the only penalty listed in the PHB for standing from prone.
<Snipped quote by rush99999>

I'm not sure off the top off my head what kind of attacks they can perform. I'll have to check the PHB and DMG. @JBRam2002, do you happen to know if there is a governance on attacks companion animals can perform?

The Mastiff can be found here. I would suggest that if these dogs are simple companions without significant training that they would be unlikely to attack if they are in danger without an Animal Handling check. If they have had training (which likely would have increased the cost of purchase), then they should be okay to run into obvious danger in most cases. Either way, they would likely defend themselves and their Master unless the Master uses one of his Attacks to command one of his minions to attack.

I know that sounds pretty harsh, but tossing in 4 companions on a single person is extremely powerful. Each companion can grant flanking bonuses simply by existing. If you use the original Beast Master Ranger, the above is what's recommended (there are lots of explanations why). 5e doesn't really have many rules for untrained companions, so I'd suggest looking at Pathfinder's Handle Animal page for what previous versions did. Keep in mind that the DCs are much higher in Pathfinder than in 5e.

Also in response to a previous post: you said that the guards have been trampled. Does this mean they are prone? If so, it takes half their movement speed to stand up from prone.

Group A Battle! - Starting Paradigm: Guerilla

Group A Battle! - Starting Paradigm: Relentless Assault

Group B Battle! - Starting Paradigm: Decimation

Combat Complete! 5 CP, 5000 gil, 2 Potions, 1 Phoenix Down.

As the number of foes dwindled to a single but powerful enemy for both groups, it was obvious that the l'Cie had won this battle. But the enemies were too stubborn to give up: the Ghast in its mindless rampage and the PSICOM Executioner in his nearly-as-mindless zeal. Finally, the enemies were cut down, and all seemed quiet...

...for now.
