I would argue that Rurik's abilities are somewhat heat related (energizes/excites things to the point that they explode), but not in a way that would clash with something intended to be directly heat based. I only mention this so that it doesn't become a point of contention later.

Basically I'm trying to say "sounds good, please don't be upset later when you see my guy's powers in action." XD

Am I making sense at all, I don'tevenknowkthxbye...

OK, this is a work in progress, but I wanna put it out there for thoughts and criticism.
And @hammerman, as far as relationships go, I could see my character and yours being a hilarious couple, romantic or not, due to them being polar (kek) opposites in both personality and especially abilities. And no I didn't do it on purpose.

Rurik

Name: Rurik Alexeev
Nickname: The Sleeper... literally just because he sleeps too much.

Appearance

Age: 18
Grade: HS, 2nd Year, Mephisto's

Biography:
A bit of a punk, but not really a troublemaker. He was born to a family of farmers. Nice, humble people for the most part, but unlike him were perfectly normal. Everything was fine until a blight hit their crops, causing them to go poor. One could argue this is what sent him down a bad path. Hard work had gotten his family nowhere in the end, so what was the point?

Moving to the city of Rhea, they rebuilt their lives, but no longer as happy as they had been before. Rurik just became lazier and lazier as time went on, barely passing school. He spent much of his time with a group on degenerates roaming the streets, they would cause trouble, and he would watch because sometimes it was funny and at least he wasn't lonely that way.

That was good enough for him until they got in serious trouble, escalating from petty pranks to full blown crimes. Rurik was fortunately recognized as a bystander, not a true accomplice, but his parents were furious and at their wits end. He hardly cared, but knew it would be even more problematic if things continued as they did.

His life needed to get out of the holding pattern it had been in, and so enter Mephisto's. He could never have gotten into the far more reputable and illustrious St. Laurels. And besides, the crowd this school gathered kinda reminded him of his former friends. He'd fit in just fine, right?

And yet somehow he still got held back a year for egregious tardiness... Some habits never changed.

Powers:
His powers allow him to energize the world around him, generally resulting in powerful kinetic blasts or turning objects into projectiles. The more energy, the more dramatic the result, but the longer it will take to charge, though rarely ever too long to be viable.

1. Bounce: Channels energy into a field, but can only focused through his hands, limiting the area he can cover. At low energy outputs, it merely drains the kinetic force from incoming projectiles, but at higher outputs will redirect and send the projectiles back, potentially with even greater force than they originally had. Can be overwhelmed if hit by a too strong a force.

2. Blast: Overcharges anything he touches to make it explode. Doesn't work on living beings. Can be combined with his bolt for projectile explosives.

3. Burst: Energizes himself so that he can push off the ground for bursts of speed or enhanced melee attacks.

Relationships: (WIP)
Clara Erdrigan: Rurik to this day cannot fathom why he is on the student committee. He hardly ever shows up for meetings, skips classes, fails assignments, and every other thing normally associated with a terrible student. When he does show up, his suggestions are usually useless. He is pretty sure Clara would have kicked off of the council long ago if she had the authority.

The two have come full circle at this point. At first she would give him simple reminders not to miss the next meeting. Reminders became icy scoldings. Scoldings became veiled threats. Eventually she stopped almost entirely, seeming more annoyed when he did show his face. Never anything grand, just the subtle tension in her jaw or the twitching of an eye.

Ironically he now shows up more often just to watch her quietly fume. It's his best source of amusement most days.

Bak Tsarevna: A crazy ****ing robot girl or something who keeps trying to blow him up. Fortunately her projectiles don't seem to do too much damage or he'd probably have quit school by now. Come to think of it, redirecting one of her missiles and almost hitting Clara might be another reason why she probably hates him...

Honestly though he doesn't dislike Bak; she's good practice for his shield and he thinks her guns are actually kind of cool. Now if only she'd stop using them on him. There was also that one time she clapped when he make an explosion.

Question, @RoflsMazoy: In your example sheet, is his child of light his one main power and those other things his three abilities or just examples of what he can do with his power?

I ask because the power/3 abilities thing is the one part that I was unsure of when thinking up my character. Wanna make sure I know how to do it properly.

Hello.

Hi.

I'm a little, err, jaded at this point, but I'm nothing if not persistent, so here we are again.

About me:
- I'm a guy.
- I'm in my twenties.
- I'm a writer by hobby, and I've done my best to become good at it.
- I work two jobs, but I can probably manage 1 or 2 posts a day.

Things to expect in an RP with me:
- Violence
- Blood
- Lots of side characters
- Drama
- Romance
- Witty banter

Things that I can make optional:
- Sexual themes
- Coarse language (I mean if for some strange reason THAT bothers you, I can go without I suppose)
- Romance between the main characters (I can make it work...)
- Let me know any other limits you might have.

Things that WON'T happen:
- Incest
There's more, but this part of the list would get obscenely long... Let's just avoid the really creepy stuff, a'ight?

What I'm looking for:
- Preferably a female counterpart. If you're a guy and you wanna give my ideas a shot... impress me?
- Competent writing. High on quality and at least decent on quantity. I'm not gonna be a jerk about it, but you know... get on my level, scrubs. Kidding, kidding... about the scrubs part anyway.
- Being that I'm an adult, you probably should be too.
- Please don't leave me!!! No, but really, I'm starting to get self conscious. Please restore my faith in both myself and the RP community... Or, you know, just let me know you want out. I really won't get mad. Just disappointed. And sad... so very sad... (jk... maybe)

Anyway, in the interest of trying to have more concrete ideas to avoid burnouts, I'mma lay down two plots. There's plenty of flexibility though, so fear not.

Werewolf idea:

My character was a naive, sensitive nobody with really bad eyesight. He wandered into the woods one night, perhaps chasing a cool snake, or perhaps just because. At the tender age of eight, that was probably a bad idea. That night, it was a terrible idea. A massive beast set upon him, nearly tearing him apart completely. A doctor could have been right there, but he was too far gone.

It was a race between death and a curse. The curse won.

His disappearance, only to wander back home bloody and beaten was the final straw in his parents shaky marriage. In less than a week, his mother took off with him and his younger sister. Over a decade later, he's returned to his hometown to go to a college that his father got him into. Also he quite frankly felt a strong need to escape his mother. He's also not quite who he used to be.

Nearly in the middle of nowhere, at a college bordering a vast expanse of forest, things begin to get weird -- and deadly. At least he's weird too, but he's still going to need help.

Your role(s):

The Scholar:
You've always been fascinated in things that others pass off as silly and fake. All the legends and things that go bump in the night. You're not convinced they're real, but you find it interesting how hard it is to disprove some of the stories conclusively. And perhaps werewolves are a particular point of interest.

Irony:
The daughter of historians with a focus in cryptozoology, you've grown up around all things weird and supernatural, but you've never seen it. You're pretty sure your parents are just humongous nerds who read too many fantasy novels as children. You were unable to escape it all entirely. In fact, you know a little too much for your liking, but you try to keep that a secret from your friends. Just... not cool. You also have this nifty necklace your parents practically forbid you form ever taking off, but it's OK, you've never been particularly tempted to for some reason.

You're fairly certain you're adopted, by the way, not that it's ever come up. It's just a feeling... and the fact that you don't really look like your parents. At all.

The Guardian:
Your childhood friend was kind of a wuss, but that was OK. You weren't. You were tough enough for the two of you. You had to be, you were popular as hell and everyone was jealous. That was also OK, you liked showing off. Your little friend was like a lost puppy, and you were the cool one. Then one day he disappeared and everyone panicked. It was the first time in a long time you'd ever really been scared. Then he showed up again before too long, but before you could reunite, he was whisked away. It hurt more than you could have expected. Relief followed by emptiness.

Years went by and you gathered new friends, practically more than you could count. Pretty, smart, talented -- your virtues were seemingly unending. Then, suddenly... he was back. A blessing? Just one more win for you? Maybe. Or maybe everything is about to flip upside-down.

The Guardian V2:
You were always number one. You didn't particularly care, that's not how you were raised. You were raised by good people, to be humble. But it is what it is, you're gorgeous and you're smart -- good at just about anything you put your mind to. You're not exactly the the school idol, no, you could be that, but you reject it. If anything, you're the idol's rival just by existing. Everyone in the school either hates you or wants to be you -- or be with you.

Then, one day, some timid new kid shows up. He's big enough to fend for himself, but something tells you he won't be able to. You know right away that if you give him the time of day it will paint a target on both of your backs, but you can't help yourself. He's new and unbiased to all the drama. It's refreshing. He's also a huge geek and you find this hilarious considering he actually towers over half the football team. And yet you learn him to be harmless, almost childish despite his stature. He just follows you around happily. It's cute, and despite what outsiders may think, you don't pay him much mind aside from being a friend.

Now you're both in college. You expect things to continue as normal, perhaps minus all the high school drama if life could be so merciful. Too bad it's about to be replaced with a different kind of drama.

(If it's not obvious, the "friend" is my character.)

Option 5:
Or just come up with something yourself. Like I said, I can be flexible. Also you can tweak the above ideas at your leisure. Just let me know what you're changing so I can adjust accordingly.

Plot details:
Beyond what I've detailed above, allow me to describe it with a little less prose. It'll sort of begin as an episodic detective story. Something happens, something not quite natural, and our characters try to deal with it to keep the college safe. Eventually they get wrapped up in a supernatural war of sorts and have to decide not who, but what deserves to live in this world. Also anything you care to add of course.

Honorably Discharged

As a teenager, he was well aware he wasn't quite human. Not like everyone else was. He didn't get hurt, not for long. When gym class came around, everyone else groaned. He didn't break a sweat. When the military showed up to kidnap him... everyone else didn't have to deal with that. That sort of made things abundantly clear.

The propaganda was pretty good though. He was special, better. He could serve his country and keep it safe. He'd be a hero, practically one right out of the comic books. That illusion didn't make it past the first time he had to kill someone. And then again.

But he wasn't alone in this shattered dream. He was just one of many, taken from home and turned into a weapon. He was one of ten. They grew close, like a family, however dysfunctional. The sea of blood he had to wade through was made bearable by knowing he could lean on them.

Then one of them was gone, even as she lay in his arms. It all fell apart. He realized he wasn't really one of them anymore. Somehow the group had broken and reformed, but with him an outsider. He was blamed and hated by most of them. The one or two who still had his back could do little to relieve the stinging pain of being outcast.

And when it was all over and they were used up, he was left with next to nothing. The company that had funded it all from the shadows scooped up the survivors as best they could. For a time he resisted, but in the end his willpower was hanging by frayed threads. He gave in to do their bidding, distasteful as he knew it would be. At least it was a purpose, even if not his own.

Your role:

The Target:
The Company (TM, Copyright, etc.) wants you for what you can do. Perhaps you're very skilled, or perhaps you're not quite human either. You've been able to evade them for quite some time, but now there is someone new after you. He... actually kind of really, really, really scares you. He's always one step behind, sometimes less. And he just won't ****ing die. You know this time you're just about out of luck, but you've had time to analyze him after being chased. There are cracks. Perhaps you can convince him he's on the wrong side.

The Recruit:
The Company (TM, Copyright, etc.) wants you for what you can do. Perhaps you're very skilled, or perhaps you're not quite human either. (A TWIST) You figure you could use the money and join up. Bad idea. Worst idea ever. The hell were you thinking? It's a nightmare. Satan himself would blush if he saw what they were up to. That or get off on it. You thought these kinds of world domination type villains were only in Saturday morning cartoons. It'd be comical if it wasn't so terrifying. Also, you probably shouldn't know all of this. Oops.

There's this one guy though, The Company's (TM, Copyright, etc.) favorite hired killer. You can't just back out now, because you know exactly what you're in for if you do. Him. Practically guaranteed death. That said, you have the feeling he might actually be a bit sympathetic to your cause...

The Prospect / The Innocent:
You're normal. Perfectly normal (or are you?). No reason anything unusual should ever happen to you. Then, one day, you cross paths with this really shady guy. He actually doesn't seem all that bad, but would it kill him to smile? You wish him a good day and move along, but then you see him again. And again. You... don't necessarily mind. You're kind of lonely. Your roomate(s) is/are great and all, but they just help pay the rent most days.

This guy's a mystery, and one you're happy enough to try and unravel. And besides, he seems lonely too.

Might not have been the best mystery you could have picked to unravel...

- As you can see by how vague I was with this one, you have a lot of say in how these things play out. I mean, you do with any of them of course, but this one gives you extra freedom.

Or, just like last time, you can pick none of the above and have UNLIMITED POWER!!!! Kind of.

Anyway, to be as inconvenient as possible, I'm going to bed the second I post this. If you want in, I'd prefer a PM, but I guess I can check for posts as well. I'll get back to you as soon as I can, but probably not as soon as you or I would like. Looking forward to working with you... you rascal you... whoever you are.
