Also known as LLA, this is based a bit on Lady Amalthea’s system, but with my own twist on it. I mostly wish to use this for combat, and might also pull it out for other situations, but for now, just the combat.
I am hoping to avoid… things… that happened in the previous incarnation of this RP with this system.
So I will be using a dice roller, most likely in Discord. Depending on the results, things will happen. Do not worry a 1 will not result in the death of your character. I am not planning on killing any of you… yet…
So, a roll under 10 will result in your character failing their actions, on a sliding scale of how fantastically awful for the lower ones. A roll of 11+ has you succeeding, again with a sliding scale depending on how the results are.
20… then you and I will talk about how awesome and badass your character gets to be for the scene.
It is currently the year 2012, and six years ago there was an event. Ten million people woke up one day with powers. All of these people found they had a minor mastery of telepathy and telekinesis, limited to a small range of about 15 feet and small weight limit, usually about 3 pounds. Most of these individuals also found they had an additional power. At first, it seemed random, but as the years went by, it has been discovered that for some of these people their main talent developed because of a quirk of their personality or due to a hobby they already had. For example, a wartime sniper developed a hyper-aware focus and force that made it possible for them to snipe someone with a handgun from over 50 clicks away. Another example is a young lady who loved dolls found that she could bring her dolls to 'life' animating them in ways to become her bodyguards and protectors. For many, the pattern fits. For some, it is still a random luck of the draw with their power.
Amongst the panic that arose from the situation, there was a private company that founded an organization based in the United States. The organization was dubbed 'Sector X.’
Now Sector X is the go-to for psychics. They have members in various governments around the world and are always looking out for the best interest of all psychics, as well as keeping relations between non-powered humans and psychics civil. However, they are not without opposition. There are rumors of another group operating all over the world that believe that psychics should use their powers to oppress humans and even other psychics.
In the six years since the event has happened, there have been others who have awoken to their abilities over time, and there is now an estimated 30 million people with psychic abilities in the world.
You may start the role-play by already working for Sector X, or possibly being a target for their next mission. You can even start not even have powers, and being a non-powered human also working for Sector X. It is up to you.
If you wish to make a Villain please PM me and we’ll talk about it. I would suggest you have at least one character be a part of Sector X in this case.
I want each character to have at least one secret. PM me the secret. It can be something your character has done, something that haunts them or it could be something they may not even know about. This will be between you and me until it might pop into the plot.
Many of those working for Sector X were people who were brought to the attention of Sector X due to their actions. However, just because you capture Sector X’s attention does not mean you have to work for them. Working for Sector X is fully up to the individual. However, since they are not affiliated with the Government officially, there are some grey areas where some of the operatives can work outside of the law.
Not all Psychic fit into classes with their powers, but here are the ones most often reported by Sector X:
Sniper Class: Hyper-focus, usually with weapons.
Technopaths, or Hacker class: Powers having to deal with computers. I.E. the ability to speak with the computer, or interface with it in a whole new way. Also able to mentally connect with computers and crack firewalls. Sector X has a test firewall set up to help find Hacker psychics since they are typically rare and are potentially snapped up by not so good groups.
Elemental: Powers having to do with the elements. Hydrokinesis, Geokinesis, Pyrokinesis, and Aerokinesis are the four typical ones. There are also those who can manipulate plants and metal, as well as the rare person who has powers that deal with ice and ice manipulation.
Physical: Super strength, heightened senses, healing and flying fall under this. It becomes harder to categorize powers at a point.
There are also those whose powers are more heightened telepathy or telekinesis and do not have a third power. Those are the people who are able to move boulders with their mind, or easily manipulate people's minds or even wipe them.
Other powers do exist, but normally do not fall into tidy categories like what they have at Sector X. I.E. The ability to manipulate dolls like they were puppets without strings does not fall into any of those.
Then there is the rarest ability. Null. The ability to cancel out psychic powers. There has only ever been one case of this power. The person in question has been put into hiding by Sector X.
The lady in charge of Sector X. The Big Boss. Head Honcho. Whatever you like to call her, she is in charge. She does not have any psychic abilities, but she commands respect. She is a former CIA operative and does not talk about herself much. Her first name is Charlene, but if you call her that, you will get glared at.
Shadow is an organization of Psychics that keeps much about themselves a secret, but it is known that they are not afraid to work outside of the law, breaking and bending it freely. There are mostly rumors about them, but a few facts are known. They will abduct psychics and brainwash them into working for them, while sometimes freely killing them if they do not obey. What they do to normal humans is sometimes worse. The head of Shadow believes that Psychics are the next stage in human evolution, and wants to make everyone like them, one way or another. Rumor has it that the head of Shadow is a man who possesses an extreme telepathic talent, able to warp people's mind and wipe months of memories at a time away. They operate worldwide, supposedly but no proof of this exists.
Affectionately called ‘The Game,’ this is more a set of competitions where Psychics can show off their powers. Usually privately funded with cash prizes, and separated by classes of powers. Sector X sometimes uses these to recruit people, but as these are mostly private and by invitation only events, they do not really attend.
Since most psychics have had their powers for about six years, most have developed a mental ‘shield’ of sorts, to keep other psychics out. Most psychics do have a common courtesy to others and don’t actively read others minds, but there are the rare cases. With these shields, the most another psychic could read is the top thought on their brain, which could be as simple as something like: “Man, I really want a bagel,” but nothing too complex. These simple shields can be torn asunder by the more powerful telepaths, but most telepaths have common courtesy.
Sector X is located in Arlington, Virginia. It is close enough to the Pentagon and the White House and has representatives in both. However, missions can take operatives all over the world.
On the outside, Sector X looks like a bunch of storage units, but that is more like the parking lot for those that work at Sector X. Once you park your car inside, you take an elevator down to the main floor.
Inside there are at least six floors of Operations. There is a tech lab on the second floor, where dampeners were developed and other tech for either containing or helping psychics is in development.
The other floors are more like a traditional office building, with operatives having their own workspace/ desk.
Sector X is an underground facility, so the 7th floor is the floor you enter on. It has the lobby and one security guard station. It also has a small cafe like thing.
6th Floor: Gun Range/ Offices. A few of the sniper class psychics pitched in to make one of the floors a gun range, fully soundproofed and well kept.
5th floor: Biology Lab. The whole floor is one giant lab. Partly botany, partly science. This is where the 'crime' lab, as it has been dubbed is. There is also a lab set up experimenting with plants.
4th floor: Offices. Woo.
3rd Floor: Technopaths offices. A lot of computers, touch screens and the like here. It is where most of the ‘Hacker/ Technopath’ class psychics that work for Sector X work. It is all very high tech, with many touchscreen interfaces, and more than one AI floating around, courtesy of said Hacker/ Technopath class psychics.
2nd Floor: Technology Lab and Head of Public Relations offices.
1st Floor: Some offices, but the Director's office and another security station. All the people going to see the director are required to check in here. Exceptions are made, especially if the person can teleport. However, all personnel must show their badge if possible if they pass by.
A couple of guidelines:
-Please, no god-modding. This is kind of a given, but I’d rather say it here than have to deal with it coming up. Do talk to your fellow role-players and work out things.
For example. if two characters get into a fight, work together to write it out. Don’t just have one character beat the utter crap out of the other without the character’s player having a chance to respond. We will be using the dice system for combat, as mentioned below.
Also, keep out of character knowledge out of character, please and thanks.
If you have a fight with an NPC like a Shadow Agent or another person, contact me or use the ‘dice’ system. I will explain the dice system in another post.
-Try to keep it PG-13. Fighting and cussing will happen. If anything too ‘adult’ happens, please do a tasteful fade to black. You can RP it out in PM if your partner wishes.
-Have fun! That is the most important thing. If there anything you are concerned about, please let me know and I will address it. Thanks!
Astrid kept mostly quiet as Alexander spoke, and she noticed how he seemed to perk up when talking about Sylent. The name sounded familiar, but she wasn't sure she knew it. She had been a lot of places during her time in Valhalla... so she wasn't sure if Sylent was one of them or not.
"Oh... I went to Valhalla." Astrid's rather casual remark seemed to silence Christopher as he looked at Astrid.
"Valhalla? The Hall of Dead Warriors?" Astrid noticed Christoper's voice drop for a moment before Hannah and Sumi signaled Kade over. Astrid looked up at the rather beautiful young man and blushed for a moment.
"Pleasure to meet you Kade, I am suppose to talk to you once dinner is over, Eleanore said so. It's about um... some things." Astrid was always afraid of how to bring up the medication she had to take. Hormone replacement wasn't easy, and she was honestly never sure how people would respond to find out the truth.
"Ah, yes, Eleanore mentioned it. No worries. I'm sure we can grab a moment before Orientation tonight." Kade's twang reminded Astrid of someone she had met in the halls, but she pushed that thought aside as she poked at her dinner a bit. She really was not use to all the attention, and talking about herself in front of others.
Astrid paused a bit as she was waved over by the rainbow girl from earlier, a little surprised that she knew her name for a moment. Then she remembered that Eleanor had introduced her to everyone earlier. If she remembered correctly, rainbow girl was Sumi, and the girl attached to her was Hannah. Kata had explained briefly they were from 'nonsense' worlds, which did make sense. The way they acted, the way they dressed, it screamed nonsense even if she didn't understand what that meant in regards to worlds.
"Hello, Christopher, Alexander..." She said softly, regarding them both. However the bone caught her eye. She could see... darkness. There was something there in the bone. However, she looked at him. "A Morte world, huh? Which one?"
"I don't suppose you'd know of it... Nancy didn't... it's called Mariposa." Christopher let out a longing sigh after he said that, but Astrid seemed to light up.
"Mariposa! I know that place! The Skeleton Girl rules there, yes? Sugar skulls everywhere?" Astrid asked with a small smile on her face, which Christopher soon mirrored.
"You do? Wow!"
"So, uh... what about you Alaxander, where did you go?" Astrid asked, not wanting to leave him out of the conversation. She didn't feel it was right to ignore him after Sumi and Hannah had brought him over.
Astrid had been shown around the school by Katalina, but by dinner time, Katalina had decided to leave Astrid to her own devices. Apparently Katalina complained that she needed to go swim for a bit. So, Astrid had been spending the past hour in the front sitting room. She had been warned to keep her spear in their room, at least until all the teachers had left. They were all, as Katalina had said, and then Eleanor had scolded her for saying the word earlier, 'mundies.' Astrid understood that the word was not to be used, but she got why Katalina would use it. She had seen it with her parents. They didn't understand where she had gone, why she was different. They tried to help as much as they could, but they would never understand.
She heard the sounds of the dinner bell ringing and sighed as she realized that she better eat something, otherwise she was going to have a reaction later. She still had to speak to this 'Kade' fellow about her medicine. Eleanore had made it clear that Kade was to be asked about things like that, as well as medicine. She wasn't sure why, but Eleanore had just said: "Trust me," winked and then had walked off when Astrid had tried to ask her more.
She headed to dinner, deciding what she wanted was to be alone for the moment. The two girls from earlier had been too much, and she didn't know anyone other that Katalina really. She knew that she would meet more of them later, at the orientation, and she was fine with that. This was still so much to take in. A whole school full of people like her? That had gone to other worlds?
Yes, she had seen some of those worlds while she had been a Valkyrie. Collecting the souls of those that had died in battle had been her task. So many brave souls, so many people... and she found herself missing it. The halls full of laughter, no one ever sitting alone... it was a big party. She missed the smell of mead, the intermingling, the sounds of music... everything here was different.
...I'm crazy. Got a doctor's note and everything.
Been role playing for over fifteen years, no stranger to forum rp'ing, as that is the way I learned to roleplay.
I don't bite, so don't be afraid to say hi.
I mostly prefer 1x1's, and am on PST. (Hello from the West Coast of the USA.)
If you are interested in rps, really, don't be afraid to say hi!!
Or if you just wanna talk, I'm usually very open.
For those of you still here, have some Pusheen!
