Just do what your character would choose.
I usually make my choices based on how well I can predict the outcome of a choice or the result of someone's arc. When combining enough factors, sometimes it's very easy to figure out what will happen next, and at other times, it surprises me. Those twists are what I live for, not being able to know the outcome.
