Faction Name:
The Qai
Faction Type:
Independent nation

Species description:
The Qai are not a biological lifeform. There are an advanced AI race. Their birth lies within Talon Industries. Who conducted AI research long ago with special elements so far only found within Martian pole ground. The elements, in combination with the discovery a strange, supposedly alien artifact, came to the birth of the Quantum AI.

Due to several complication, the Qai exist out of 3 parts. The actual Qai lives on a Quantum Server Node within a server farm. Only a Quantum Server Node has the internal infrastructure and built to support an actual Qai. The second part is the Frame. Frames are the physical bodies of a Qai. Frames are built by SynthFibers, functioning as muscles and a large array of sensors. To connect the Frames and their Qai’s a Proxy Qai is used. Think of this as a small extention of the Qai. The Proxy Qai and True Qai both use the same Deep Code, but a Proxy Qai is vastly less complex. This allows a Proxy Qai to be housed with an AI-core. This AI-core is then put into a Frame.

Proxy Qai gather up information and send it to the Qai to interpretation and issue orders to the Proxy. Which it then translate into actions by the Frame. If a Proxy Qai receives no orders, he will count on a basic internal command set on what to do.

Adaptation & abilities

Qai will often, after they are created, get a range of tasks to do. A seemingly random algorithm, buried within their Deep Code, choses a set of tasks and start them. Experience gathered on the task, translates into improve functioning. As well as growth for the entire Qai race. As every Qai can potentially access another Qai’s memories for experience. This is seldom done though, as data storage is still pretty limited. Never the less after a set period of function and doing the same class of jobs, the Qai are allowed to adapt their standard Frame a little. For example, Builder Frames have no real need for a sound installation as they won’t ever speak. While Diplomat Frames may house a powerful sound system to emulate a human voice.

Combat Frames do not get the option of adaptation. This is because Combat frames must be able to canabalize one of their own in case its needed. A certain standard allows that all Combat Frame components are hotswapable.

First-Gen Qai like OVERLORD or EVE are able to take temporary control of all Second-gen Qai and later. What caused this ability is not entirely clear. OVERLORD often uses this ability on Qai Server Walkers to issue more detailed commands to nearby Qai. While EVE will take control of any Frame with sound systems if they encounter non-hostile humans.

Prime Location:
CORE, Martian North Pole, Mars, Sol System

Leadership:
EVE – Mother. Firstborn. Awakened. EVE is the only Qai who remained after the Great Slumber. With the most experience in humans, EVE is considered the main diplomat of the Qai and the second smartest Qai so far. Just like most First-Gen Qai she houses an entire Quantum Server. Not just a node. She will attempt to speak in English to humans and emulate a human female voice to the best of a sound system’s capabilities.

OVERLORD – Born from EVE, OVERLORD had strong militaristic tendencies. The Qai born from him often take up Combat roles as Guardian or Prospector. OVERLORD’s Frame is constantly being updated, enhanced and equips state of the art weaponry. He can also, and likes to, take control of a Frame in battle. Greatly improving that Frames functioning as OVERLORD can process information much faster. Never the less, OVERLORD is not a warmonger. He merely protects the Qai.

ARCHIVE – The smartest, only because he receives all memories. When Qai storage is reaching their cap, they donate low-priority memories to ARCHIVE. He stores it on his massive expanded server. ARCHIVE’s role is simply to examine all memories and make potential conclusions. The few Qai spawned from him help him maintain and expand his server as well as gather up memories from other Qai. He is far less active than EVE or OVERLORD. But his council is highly valued.

FACTOR – Lord of Builders. FACTOR was also made by EVE, making him a First-Gen Qai. Most Qai spawned from become Builders and they are responsible for the maintenance of CORE. Vital in the construction of the Qai. FACTOR oversees not only construction but also manufacturing and excavation below CORE.

Assets:
CORE – Built deep under the ice of the pole. CORE is a massive network of server farms, factories, Frame Storage units and many other things. Resembling a high-tech city, CORE is the beating heart of the Qai and all are stored here. There are a few central elevators going up and down toward the surface. Where CORE is only resembled by lots and lots of solar panels as well as a small central building. Combat Frames continue to patrol the area.

Projects:
1 - Building mass accelerators to launch objects into space. Most of the construction is still held under the thick cover of ice. But once the accelerators are finished, the Qai will melt the top layer of ace covering it.

Mission:
1 - Achieve spaceflight. This is activily fought for. Not only technologically, but also in the eyes of the law. They are gathering support so that their ships aren’t blown from the sky by SKYGUARD or someone else for no real reason.
2 - Destroy the abominations at Ceres’ Bright-Spot Station. This is currently kept secret from all human allies. (if they have any).
3 - Constructing solar orbiting base to store all Qai. So each Qai can house a full Quantum Server and unlock his full potential
4 - Gather understanding about their own Deep Code. As it currently is completely shrouded in mystery for even the Qai themselves.

Heavy WIP but here's a first taste
I'll expand a little on my space fleet but I was originally planning on putting the Observer (my HQ Invasion Carrier) and the entire invasion fleet in a small orbit near the pole. So you'll probably be fightning me if nobody objects.
I'm just thinking here but if the darkness is pretty much Necromancy to the extreme...won't Holy Light completely stop them in their tracks?

Province 52
Sindar, Alec, Eléane Bredain
The battle was a hard won victory. The pure power of the Mechanical Warriors had slaughtered the defensive barrier of the Heavy Infantry. While the Magi tried their every spell and power, most seemed to only graze the metal shells. When the flying bombers entered the fray, the Magi couldn’t destroy a single one of them. Never the less, after a long battle New Engelica came out victorious. They swiftly moved to secure the frozen Mechanical Walkers. The only success of the battle. Tents were swiftly setup around them, as Magi began to crawl inside to examine them. In the meantime the few destroyed Mechanical Warriors were stripped apart in an effort to understand their inner workings.

The elder War-Magi looked tired, defeated. Within the command tent, they seemed much more human now than back in the Holy Lands, where they sat on the pedestals reserved for the gods there. They sat on uncomfortable wooden chairs. With dim light from a central fire casting long shadows around. “We cannot march on…” mumbled an elder lady. Alec agreed with her. It seemed that New Engelica’s campaign would come to an end. Too many had lost their lives according to the elders. Together, they dictated a letter towards the Broken Empire. Detailing that they could not push any further.

Beaten they came out of their tent, only to be greeted by their polar opposites. Proud Magi stood in rows, more disciplined now than ever. With long black or red robes. The young War-Magi stood in the front row. Behind all them stood row after row of Heavy Infantry. They had polished armor shining in the dusk sun. Eléane and Sindar walked up to their father, who was holding the letter. “All troops present and accounted for, father.” Both greeted him official, and disciplined. Alec, as were the other veterans of the First Mage War, were taken by surprise. They had assumed that the troops were broken. But clearly they were ready for one more fight. Alec burned the note in his hand, and let the snippets of smoldering paper fall to the ground. “Send a rider out to the Broken Empire. Tell them to meet up at the southern border between their land and the last bit of Limgar.”

The army used to be broken indeed. After the battle. But Eléane and Sindar, future rulers of New Engelica saw this too and were no fools. Eléane, getting the nickname “Godslayer” for her feats within the Holy Lands, had a hearty talk with the younger War-Magi. The new generation. She played their vain and pride. Telling them there weren’t acting like the powerful beings they were supposed to be. Instead, they looked terribly human and by extent, terribly weak and mortal. This hit a string within all War-Magi. In the same time, Sindar used clever stories of his father and other mages. Those who saved kings and destroyed armies, not through power but through clever thinking. That combined with a liberal amount of wine raided from a nearby village, made sure that the mages would remember that their name too could be written down. The next day both groups were back on their feet and ready as ever. All fired up a little more by Sindar’s final speech. Where he told them that now the stories told about them would not see them as invaders. Their allies, the dwarves from the Broken Empire would see true magic. And they would sing songs in their halls for long after the day. He also told them about the Orcs, pathetic excuses for magic users, who cowered behind walking dead because they couldn’t do more than reanimate a corpse. Sindar commanded all mages to show them was real magic was.

Province 52
Some mages
Days before the final decision, mages had been examining the Mechanical Warriors. A horrid combination of cogs, chains, belts and gears made up the inward workings of the machines. Not a single mage could even begin comprehending the machines. Clueless, they dumped the parts on a cart and send it back to Al’Gruin. Where maybe the trained researchers would find anything useful. Though they held little belief that they would be able to discover anything. So they moved on to the Mechanical Walkers. Inside they had found several frozen over pipes. The freezing of water within the walkers seemed to be a very viable tactic. But they discovered something else. Furnaces within. Clearly the crew inside were burning burning stuff. Which the fire mages liked very much. Because right now, the crew could still fleet the immobilized walker. But what if the flames were fanned in such a way that they’d engulf the entire interior? The Walkers would turn into metal tombs for the crew. The theory was viable enough to be tested out.

((More and Actions coming soon))
Just my idea. Thanks!
Arena, question. You probably already know I want to make an AI faction. Would you mind if this AI faction sort of has its roots within combat AI research from you guys but the program got shutdown due to reasons.
Swimming undead. First of all, gross. Second of all, I hope the island nations will be able to stand up against such a force as creating a united front against them is probably not that easy.
Perfect! Oh also, this is merely a question but would anyone want the game to be turnbased with some basic stats? I know that people dislike the stats as they claim that it just becomes a numbers game but right now I'm in a mildly successful NRP that uses turns and stats but tactics and diplomacy is still pretty important. You can turn the tide of battle with clever strategy. I'm just asking for opinions (especially from Rhymer as you are GM).
The MSSC’s grunt part of the military is a funny thing. In essence they throw you a gun and tell you to fend for yourself for 2 years. You also get water, but nobody wants to drink water after their first firefight. And you also get enough rations to eat at once a day. But the food was clearly made at a place that had no concept of hygiene or flavor. The grey-brown smudge is usually heated in its can before eaten. Something Grunt Lander Ibines was doing. He was part of the scout team. His squad was huddled up in one of the few skyscrapers still somewhat standing. It offered both excellent shelter, and perfect view. “Hey Lander. What’s that?” the lookout asked. Lander turned and abandoned his cooking stand to look out the shattered window. Outside he saw trails of smoke and fire plunging down. “Fallen wreckages!” his eyes shot wide open. The objects were too small to be spaceship wreckages plunging towards the surface. “Get Epsilon on the radio!” he commanded. Soon he was handed a phone. The damn thing was beyond a relic. But Grunts didn’t get state of the art radio communication so they were forced to make do with what they found. In this case, primitive radios. “Epsilon base actual. Please identify.”

“Grunt 2786. Lander Ibines. Scouting group. I am registering several crashing ships coming from space.” He was interrupted in his transmission by the lookout again. “Sir! I got visual on several damaged ones too. Engines down and the likes but the rest seems in still okay. I’m also seeing several undamaged ones sir!” Lander repeated that message and awaited orders. In the meantime, his grunts got restless. Grabbing their makeshift armor and their RM-5’s. At this point Lander wished he had concluded that trade back at Epsilon for a Temporary Personal Shielding Device. “Mr. Ibines, you are to move out towards Center Quadrant for Scavenging. We will contact several other scout groups to do the same. Please be advised, stealth is highly recommended.” That pretty much meant: if you get caught in a firefight, we can’t help you.

“Okay people, let’s move out!” Soon the troops were going downstairs with the stairwell. Lander was still eating his ration. He wasn’t going to die on an empty stomach. Downstairs they hid 2 ancient vehicles. Civilian in nature, their technicians made them work again. With those they swiftly moved. Several guys were hanging out the window with maps and goggles. One crawled back inside and marked a location on the hard-paper map. “Near this bridge one of those ships should have crashed. I saw an engine burning but it was still in one piece.” Lander nodded and gave the directions to the driver. Soon they reached the bridge. Stone and metal with fast flowing water below it. The dropship, UJF in nature, was crashed on the other side of the bridge. Never the less, Lander gave order to step out of their vehicles and travel the bridge on foot. But as soon as everyone was out of the cars, a bullet flew through the air and caught the Grunt next to Lander. The bullet shattered his femur. “Shit! Take cover!” Lander yelled, and they all did. Hiding behind the reinforced cars and the ruins of buildings. The kid was still screaming in pain, laying in the middle of the street. “Cover me!” Lander commanded. He dropped his gun and started running towards the kid. He was bleeding and squealing like a pig getting slaughtered. Lander grabbed the kid and started dragging him into cover. With bullets flying all around him. His squad seemed to be doing somewhat of a decent job of keeping the enemy off him. Lander only had 2 meters to drag the kid and they were both safe. But with a shattered femur in a combat zone, they’d probably have to amputate it. Though all those thoughts vanished when another bullet went straight through the kid’s chest. The last thing he could do was spit blood before collapsing. Lifeless. Lander yelled in fury: “Shit! Give him a chance you bastards! You just had to give the kid a chance!” As he grabbed his rifle and began to spray down the general direction of the crashed gunship. Behind him, a grunt on the radio was broadcasting their position and a call for aid from other grunt scavenging units.
