I.Intro

Intro

If you came here to join me, then you probably know the drill; this is the year 2281 AD, and this hellhole, the Mojave Wasteland, is a prize being fought over by the New California Republic, whom I left after they broke their ideals one too many times, Caesar's Legion, evil fucks who are as stuck in the mistakes of the past as they say we are, and Mr. House, a money-grubbing bastard who would gladly suck the Wasteland dry. There are a bunch of smaller factions: the Khans, the Fiends, the Brotherhood's stragglers, the Followers, and the Kings, and then there are us.

Our group is named The Counterattack, and we're a group of citizens who seek to hinder the Legion when the NCR's regulars cannot. We seek to use the Legion's own tactics against them, and unlike the NCR High Command, we accept almost anyone willing to fight Caesar and his greed for power; Ghouls, Super Mutants, Robots and even those 'Synths' who sometimes wander in from the East, as long as they stand for the NCR's ideals even when the NCR itself doesn't, they're with us. Of course, General Lee Oliver and his goons do not like this idea of armed folk going behind their back thinking they can do better than them, so I got us some connections with the NCR Government - A Senator named Pete Tannhauser who's willing to sponsor us.

Now we can act without the higher-ups in Camp McCarran getting in our way... If we can prove this works. So what do you say? Want to bust some Legion Heads together?

All right, as my last attempt at making a Fallout Sandbox RP failed miserably, I'm going to make an RP that, although it still leaves room for players to have a lot of freedom, will have a central plotline that those who want direction can flock to, and which affects and will be affected by events occuring elsewhere in the playable area. But what is that plot?

This is a Fallout: New Vegas RP set as close to canon as possible, only The Courier and the Platinum Chip he was carrying are missing (but not dead). An ex-NCR Ranger, disenchanted with the Massacre at Bitter Springs several years earlier, has formed an organization of partisans to fight the Legion on their own terms. You are most likely part of this faction, but you also have the option of forming your own (within limits), joining up with the larger forces (yes, including the antagonists), or just going it alone (not recommended unless you are a veteran RPer).

Just remember: War, War Never Changes.

II. Rules

Rules

1.) No godmodding, powerplaying, metagaming, etc.
2.) Note, there will be sexual themes in this RP, but anything above nudity is forbidden, because I don't want us to get banned.
3.) No OOC feuding! If you must argue, be respectful. IC, meanwhile, you can hate each other as much as you like as long as it doesn't seep over to OOC.
4.) Please notify me if you will be gone longer than a few days, I myself will let you guys know if I will be gone.
5.) I reserve the right to control or kill off Custom Factions made by inactive players and control and write out (but not necessarily kill) OCs made by those inactive players.
6.) All player characters must be OCs unless you control a Canon Faction (or sub-faction), and even then, it's encouraged you use OCs so as not to derail canon characters' personalities. You are, however, allowed to temporarily control merchant/bartender/officer canon characters (such as Trudy from Goodsprings) if you want to buy something, do a scene inside a bar, or do other minor interactions.
7.) All relationships between people of the same age group are allowed, whether homosexual or heterosexual, as long as it does not violate RPGuild Rules.

Faction Name: The Counterattack

Faction Leader: Randall Stanley, an Ex-NCR Ranger who left the NCR (honorably) after the Bitter Springs Massacre, with sponsorship from Peter Tannhauser, an NCR Senator who sympathizes with him.

Are they Canon?: No.

Numbers: 100

Tech Level: The Counterattack has access to NCR weapons and armor, within reason, and a few guns and ammunition crafted by the Gun Runners. However, their medical technology and supplies are limited by what they can buy or craft, while their ability to produce energy weapons is minimal until they can get Vault 11's systems working. As a partisan group, The Counterattack make good use of poisons and camoflauge, as well as dynamite and improvised explosive devices.

- 188 Trading Post (Not Owned, but they have a recruitment station there).
- Sloan (Not Owned, but they have a recruitment station there).

History: "When a Republic fails to commit to its ideals, the solution is to acknowledge it, fix it, and strive for a more perfect union," that was the creed of Randall Stanley, an NCR Ranger who left the NCR Military after the Massacre at Bitter Springs three to four years ago. A consummate idealist with enough pragmatism to know that he needed allies, Randall spent a year or more trying to get the NCR's top brass to acknowledge that not only will the Legion return to the Mojave, but the current tactics and strategy of the NCR needed to be... supplemented by a force who knew the Legion's methods and mindset without falling prey to the temptations of the latter.

Obviously, this earned him the reputation of being a nutjob, but Randall was persistent and eventually found a sponsor in a young NCR Senator, Peter Tannhauser, whom he saved from some thugs hired by one of the latter's political rivals. After spending another year serving as Peter's chief bodyguard and godfather to Peter's son, Leonid, Randall then returned to the Mojave with money, connections, and political protection against a suspicious NCR Army High Command. After taking in the news of the Legion driving the NCR out of the Arizona Spillway and back into the Mojave, Randall then began recruiting mercenaries, ex-NCR soldiers, and random citizens to an audacious mission: Find the mysterious, and presumably empty, Vault 11.

Travelling eastward from the Mojave Outpost, Randall went with a small group of the most hardened mercenaries and former NCR Soldiers, laying false trails just in case people heard of his activities - Which they did. A band of Legion assassins ambushed them close to the 188 Trading Post, but Randall got lucky and took out their commading officer with a stick of dynamite and scattered the raiding party. Nevertheless, after finding Vault 11 and taking out the giant rats, mantises, and radscorpions infesting the structure, Randall knew that he needed more secure operations from now on if he was to get away with raiding the Legion.

Hopefully, a Senator's money and connections can get him a good spymaster, right?

You have received a ticket to an exclusive resort in the Philippines as part of a mysterious promotional project, and against your better judgement, you have decided to take it. And surprise, surprise, you are actually enjoying yourself when a freak blackout, then a storm, covers the entire resort, transporting you and other children and teenagers who had received the same message to the Digital World, a dimension composed of the computer data of Humanity, mixed with the latter's emotional energies.

But first, a brief explanation as to why you are here...

In the 1940s, the Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC) and Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC) were invented, one after the other. They created a Digital World*, and their children were Homeostasis and Yggdrassil. Then after that came more various Yggdrassil units, supercomputers who implanted themselves into countless parallel universes, creating Digital Worlds in each of them as well. A few of these Yggdrassil units were benevolent, some were arrogant and tyrannical, but a few were merely devoted to esoteric goals and agendas.

The local Yggdrassil merely wished to find others like himself, yet this goal was already enough to do damage, as in order to breach the walls between universes, said local Yggdrasil had to bust a hole in the Digital World; this would kill those inhabitants who cannot get to safety. Seven of the most powerful Digimon objected to that not just because their homes were threatened, but because they wanted Yggdrasil's power for themselves.

These Seven Digimon, later known as the Seven Demon Lords/Seven Deadly Sins, attacked Yggdrasil as the latter were about to begin his plan, and killed him. They then took over the Digital World, replacing Yggdrassil's destructive neglect with their own destructive malice.

Dorumon, the leader of Yggdrassil's Royal Knights, decided to resurrect him by recruiting eight human children to partner with eight Digimon, and the bonds that they form were intended to create emotional energy that will advance the Digimons' evolutions and their own skills. After that, the plan is for them to overthrow the Seven Deadly Sins and then use the power of their bonds to revive Yggdrasil... Who would be free to burst open holes in the Digital World once more in an attempt to contact his siblings as well as the ABC and ENIAC. Note that he does not plan on telling you this, as some secrets are best kept hidden.

So yes, this is a morally grey tale where you choose between willful evil and wanton destruction, unless you figure things out and come up with your own solution - Then things are black and white once more.

*Atanasoff and ENIAC were Canon Characters until Digimon Adventure Tri retconned their existence, by the way, see this link. And yes, they were Canon Characters before Yggdrasil was a thing.

Rules

History

Before there was a Spain, there was Castile-Leon, the most powerful Kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula. And Alfonso was the Crown Prince, dutifully helping his father reconquer the lands that would become Spain from the Moors, and later, the King who would take from the achievements of all three Abrahamic Faiths - Jewish, Christian, and Muslim - to make his court a center of culture, wisdom, and in secret, the Occult. He was not just a conqueror; he was a builder, a lawmaker, and a scholar, even earning a mention in the United States Capitol, due to how his laws are still used in the American Southwest.

He fought off an invasion by the remaining Moors, took one of their remaining Sultanates, then reduced the last remnants of their nation to their final sliver of land in Granada. But he also knew that they had knowledge to contribute to the world, and so he translated their works from Arabic to Castilian, works of Astronomy, Mathematics, Alchemy, and the properties of precious stones and talismans (Mineralogy).

And while unlike his descendants and their Inquisitions, he tolerated the Jews, he forced them to translate the Kabbalah to that same language, enabling other scholars to gradually Christianize its teachings. By personally supervising the translation, he learned a lot of secrets that the Kabbalists had kept away from prying eyes, including Golemancy, where he mixed Avicebron (Solomon ibn Gabriol)'s teachings with what he knew about Astrology (Astromancy in Clock Tower jargon) and Mineralogy, giving it a gloss more acceptable to his co-religionists and The Holy Church.

But more relevant to this tale is that he was a gamer, compiling an entire book on how to play chess, dice, and early backgammon, and this, not just his achievements in translation, the compiling of works on astrology, and getting a crater on the moon named after him in modern times, earn him the role of Caster in this Grail War.

Personality

A believer in chivalry, but also pragmatic when called to it, Alfonso genuinely believes in the virtues of Knighthood and that true Knights should strive for virtue. A believer in the fruits of tolerance and understanding (as much as a medieval ruler can be), Alfonso is more than pleased to talk with scholars, translate their writings to his own language, and yes, share the fruits of his wisdom with his 'subjects' (aka Spaniards and people from former Spanish Colonies). He appreciates Masters who are scholarly and wise and not snobbish towards other sources of knowledge, and holds them to his own standards of Knighthood, even if they are not Knights themselves, making sure they do not harm civilians.

He also expects his Master or Mistress to ride or pilot the Mechs he creates; this is not him absorbing them into the Golems by force - He keeps insisting he is not an inhuman monster - but rather them voluntarily serving as its core as long as they are in it. He even provides escape pods for them made out of clay should they be defeated.

Alfonso X's Wish is to revive the glory of Spain and turn Spanish into the language of culture and scholarship once again, displacing English and French.

But as he is called to specialize in this Grail War, the Workshop has to focus on one or two things, in this case, Golemancy. In order to avoid overlap with Avicebron, whose writings he had ordered translated, Alfonso focuses on making a small, limited number of high-quality Golems empowered with a small number of weapons and armor; these, in turn, can be piloted by Humans, who voluntarily serve as the Golems' core but are not absorbed into them - He is not an inhuman monster!

He can also build specialized weapons and armor for each Golem he creates, further improving the quality of each individual one, and add ejection seats for the Master in case they are defeated.

Now that his Workshop as a Heroic Spirit is oriented to making Golems, maintaining Golems, and building weapons and armor for them, this tendency to supervise or join in important tasks manifests differently, in that he can customize individual Golems to make them stronger, more enduring, capable of carrying magical railguns, faster and unlike Avicebron's, able to fly.

As Alfonso X, in Caster form, is also summoned due to his legacy as an Astrologer and a Gamer, the Tablas acts not just as a magical computer, but also as a Mana Reactor that when placed into just one Golem Mech, gives that Golem and its Pilot inside the attributes of a Noble Phantasm. By that, he puts the Tablas/Core inside a Clay Golem Mech, and the Mech and its Pilot become a Noble Phantasm, able to withstand the attacks of Servants (including other Noble Phantasms), fight Servants on an even footing in both melee and ranged combat, and of course, fly, fire laser beams, and be extremely lucky.

When opened, Alfonso can see the 'Stats and Skills' of his Golems and the people piloting them (Master and Friends), as well as any upgrades the former get. This seems weak at first, but with a True Name Release, he can rearrange the Stats and Skills of each Golem he has and add new upgrades by reshaping the Clay they are made of.

With the Pilots' explicit consent, he can spend a lot of Mana to rearrange their existing stats and skills, transfer them to each other, or even give them his own skills, adding an element of customization that other Golemancers lack. These skills are retained even when they leave the Golem Mechs.

As Alfonso X, in Caster form, is also summoned due to his legacy as an Astrologer and a Gamer, the Tablas acts not just as a magical computer, but also as a Mana Reactor that when placed into just one Golem Mech, gives that Golem and its Pilot inside the attributes of a Noble Phantasm. By that, he puts the Tablas/Core inside a Clay Golem Mech, and the Mech and its Pilot become a Noble Phantasm, able to withstand the attacks of Servants (including other Noble Phantasms), fight Servants on an even footing in both melee and ranged combat, and of course, fly, fire laser beams, and be extremely lucky.

Description: Alfonso gathered the knowledge of the Arabs regarding chess, dice, backgammon, and other board games into one text, and added to it; the Book of Games is the crystallization of the idea, and despite its name, it can be both a literal book and so much more. When opened, Alfonso can see the 'Stats and Skills' of his Golems and the people piloting them (Master and Friends), as well as any upgrades the former get. This seems weak at first, but with a True Name Release, he can rearrange the Stats and Skills of each Golem he has and add new upgrades by reshaping the Clay they are made of.

With the Pilots' explicit consent, he can also rearrange their existing stats and skills, transfer them to each other, or even give them his own skills, adding an element of customization that other Golemancers lack. These skills are retained even when they leave the Golem Mechs.
