Lucian was thankful to be out of the sewer finally, though he was troubled by what he'd seen in it's depths. The curse was spreading quickly but Lucian was racking his brain as to the how and why. How long had it been affecting the city? Not long he imagined, otherwise it would have been overrun days ago. That meant the curse must have found it's way to Kenfort at least two days ago, three at most. So how did it find it's way here? The last village they'd found that had been touched by the Cursed was miles away. It must mean that there was somewhere else that had been hit.

'Goddess damn it. I pray the others have found it and put an end to it quickly lest the country side be infested with these things' the Old Raven thought. Lucian then watched as a titan of a man came towards them with a maul in hand. His accent was very thick but Lucian understood what the man was asking. He looked the man over a bit unimpressed. He was big, this was true, but big didn't mean dangerous. He seemed more frightened by them than anything, or at least surprised by them. Lucian didn't see any armor, any identifying patches, so that made him a civilian. He then motioned to the bag and instructed him to dump it. Lucian scowled.

"No" he said. Plain and simple, as though it were God making a decree. He seemed intent on beating the lot of them until Mergoux approached and the smell hit him. He quickly clenched his nose and said that they'd proven their point of not being dangerous and that they could have their arms and armor cleaned at the Smithie near the keep. It was appreciated greatly but time was of the essence and Lucian was accustomed to the smell for the moment as the massive man asked what was in the bag. Lucian however remembered him speaking of voices from the dark. The Cursed attempting to lure him in and turn him. Good thing they arrived when they did. Shiara spoke of moving everyone of Kenfort here for safety but that the ground had become unconsecrated. He shook his head with a grunt.

"It wouldn't matter anyway. The Cursed would still attack regardless of consecrated ground or not. We've dealt with what's in the sewers at least and I can rest easy knowing that but there are more in the poor districts who have yet to strike. When the sun goes down, they'll attack" he said with a grunt. The giant of a man once more asked what was in the bag and Lucian sighed. He opened the burlap sack, careful not to put his fingers near the things mouth as he grabbed it by the tuft of it's hair and pulled it out for the man to see. His began to grimace and click it's teeth quickly as the sun seemed to begin scorching the skin very slowly, it's eyes blistering and becoming bloody as Lucian quickly put the head back.

"We just barely managed to kill 5 of these things down their and the city has more of them that will attack once the sun goes down. I need to go to the Lord now. Lua, once your done at the house, get back across the bridges and instruct the locals to begin evacuating the slums. Guards will be at the bridges with dogs to weed out those Cursed and those who are not. The moment they detect even ONE Cursed, I'm raising the bridges and closing off the slums; regardless if all are across the bridge" he said sternly. Which included her he meant. She'd need to be fast to get over the bridges lest she be trapped in the poor district just before the Cursed began flooding the streets and killing all in sight.

Thora....it seemed so long ago when in reality it was perhaps only 2 years ago. 2 years ago when humanity as we knew it was given an answer to the age old question. Are we alone in the universe? No. Now however, we wish we were alone. The outer colonies began going dark at first, communication suddenly going quiet, ships stopped returning. People thought it was just piracy, by products of civil war. The last thing ANYONE thought was extra-terrestrial creatures. Let alone that these creatures were invading human controlled planets. They were developing worlds, sure. Worlds that often had spotty communication till Alliance forces set up proper channels. Then they attacked Thora. A world that bolstered a population at one point of 10.6 billion people. A world that the Swarm completely occupied in less than 3 days.

Day One, they made contact over the city of Ember. The sky darkened, Crickets in the billions swarming and infesting the city; killing everyone and everything in sight.........

By day two, the Alliance set up defensive positions and tried to push the Swarm back. A battle that lasted less than 7 hours and ended with a crippling defeat for the Alliance's troops.........

By day three, planetary evacuation began. What humans remained abandoned Thora. A population that had once been almost 11 billion people was barely 2,000 people now. Thora was infested and humanity had been dealt a terrifying lesson. Humanity was not only alone, it was also out gunned horribly.

That however, was 2 years ago....

The Massacre of Thora had been a message, now humanity is sending it's own message. The Retribution.....

It occurs to me that I should probably explain what the RP would be about as the information (while a good introduction) offers nothing to you (the reader). The RP in question takes place in the 31st Century and would take place 2 years after the first contact with the Swarm. Our characters would be a pair of survivors who had managed to survive Thora and decide to join up with the Alliance to get some payback and perhaps retake their homeworld. We would follow these two as they go through boot camp and discover they are both eligible to join a covert Alliance program that would ensure that they not only saw combat but ensured they could make a difference. After training/boot camp, they would be assigned to the Alliance cruiser known as the 'Retribution' (hence the title), a ship manned by the last survivors of Thora, making up what is known as the Thora First and Only. From there, we would follow these two as they fight the Swarm and soon discover just how big of a threat they really are....

Lucian grit his teeth as the pain went through him like fire was burning in his veins. He felt himself ready to succumb to his own injury but the black water ensured he wouldn't die. That was the gift and the curse of the goddess, she had no time for the unworthy or the weak. She ensured you suffered because she knew you could handle it. The old raven panted gently for a moment as the mercenary woman approached him and offered his axe to him. He winced and grunted as she explained that her name was Mergoux. "Lord Lucian Barrett..." he said with a grunt as his apprentice said he was getting slow. "I'm not gonna give you the satisfaction of outliving me" he said with a grunt as she helped him up.

Lucian was going to be weak for a few moments as he breathed heavily. He nodded in agreement as she recommended they get out of this shit pit. "Wait, I need to take something with us before we leave. If we're going to stop this from taking over the entire city than I need this" he grunted. He motioned for Lua to stop as they were about to pass and grabbed a severed head from the muck. It's eyes were darting about and it's teeth snapped as it tried to scream at them. Lucian smirked and looked into it's eyes as he saw the determination in it's eyes. He slipped the head into a burlap sack and grunted as he looked ahead as the bone woman summoned a spell to show them the way out of the crypt. He grunted as he followed along, eventually standing on his own and moving through the tunnel without the aid of his young apprentice.

"Lua, we have much we need to do. Night fall isn't far and if there ARE more Cursed, they'll be free to attack and the curse will spread. I need to go speak to the lord of Kenfort and show him what he's dealing with. However, we need to find out HOW the hanged man became cursed. He didn't get it from the city or the city would have been over run already. I suggest you go to his home and see what you can find. Anything that answers our questions" he said with a grunt as he rubbed his formerly injured shoulder. The injury was now completely nonexistent, not even a scar remained. The bone woman seemed to be leading them out of the sewers and back into the crypt as they were now making their way towards the church above. Fine by him, though they'd likely offend the clergy with the stench of shit and filth. It didn't matter though, there was much more pressing issues and time was certainly not on their side at the moment.

Unlike the chasms below the large man, the graveyard itself was quiet as could be (excluding the rain) as he walked through the tombstones towards the location in question. As he approached the sight in question, he'd likely see the massive hole in the ground that lead into the crypts and now the smell was likely readily apparent. As he approached, he'd likely sense something was....off. An uncomfortable heaviness that some might even describe as almost evil. A darkness in the hole that seemed thicker than smoke. As he approached, he likely heard the whispers in the dark. Whispers that weren't supposed to be there.

"Hey. Come down here. It's perfectly fine. Come on. We can use you down here" the voices whispered. It was less a sound you heard with your ears and one you heard within your mind. The tension was ramping however as a door opened from an entrance to the crypts. From it came 4 people, a woman dressed like a mercenary, a woman with chocolate skin, and 2 others who were wearing dark armor. The man looked grizzled and battle hardened and the group itself looked weary, bloody, and reeked of shit. The man had a burlap sack strapped to his belt that was moving and seemed to be trying to bite, assuming that wasn't simply a trick of the light.

With the holidays FINALLY in the rear view and things returning to normal, I can say finally in confidence that my unplanned(ish) hiatus is now finally done and over with and we can resume with the RP assuming all are still interested.

Things are still alive. Sorry, holiday madness has me spread 7 different ways to Sunday. Not to worry though, I'm not gonna let this thing die even if I got to give it mouth to mouth

Lucian heard the bolt whiz by him as it found it's mark in the boy's chest. The boy shrieked and cried in pain as it tried desperately to free itself from the wall. At that moment, Lucian heard Mergoux yell to him to catch. The hatchet came tumbling towards him and the old raven caught it with ease out of the air. He began chopping the boy to pieces, even as the boy cried out like a proper child. Lucian grit his teeth and screamed in rage as he chopped and hacked with greater resolve. Soon he was doing more than just chopping limbs off, he was butchering the corpse with pure blind rage. Lucian was splashed with blood until he looked like a mad man. He screamed in pure rage, a sound that was like a wounded animal. Lucian turned as Mergoux worked on the fat woman, dancing around her and slashing her as best as he could.

Lucian watched the woman turn, her back now to the old warrior as the hatchet came down and split the woman's head down the middle, lodging the blade into the spine. Lucian motioned for Mergoux to move as he kicked the woman to the ground. Holding her down with his weight as he handed her the bloody ax. "Do it. I'll hold the bitch down" he growled. The woman struggled but Lucian kept his heavy boot on the woman, ignoring the wounds he'd suffered at the hand of the demonic boy. Lucian watched as she began to cut the woman apart like firewood. Soon the creature stopped struggling, the fight finished for the old raven and the mercenary. Lucian panted, wiping the blood and sweat out of his face as he finally seemed to realize he'd been injured. The old man winced and stepped off the old woman as he grabbed the silver bottle that hung from his neck, uncorking it. The contents were still hidden but Lucian opened his mouth and poured exactly three drops into his mouth.

"GODDESS DAMN IT!" he groaned out in pain as he dropped to his knee. Pain went through him, like fire in his veins as his veins turned black lick pitch. He grit his teeth and fought through the pain as he felt the skin and muscle tightening, the wound closing before everyone's eyes as strands of muscle and severed veins lashed out to the other side of the wound, pulling it closed and sealing it. Lucian sat back against the sewer wall and panted, his veins soon fading to normal, sweat coating his face as he seemed very tired and weak now.

The priest looked at the bishop as the bishop explained what had just occurred, why a pair of strangers were in need of shovels and why they were told the location of the hanged man. "Father, you cannot be serious. Such things are....it isn't...." the young priest said before the bishop gave him a look. "I assure you. It is. I saw it in the man's eyes. You don't have such a look unless you are very serious" he said. The pair turned as a heavy knock rang out at the door. "I believe that is the refugees the man told me about. Please, let them in my son" he said. The priest nodded and hurried to the door as he opened them, revealing rather than the huddled masses of those seeking sanctuary, a giant of a man standing before him. Kapti, the Coal Man. "Ah Kapti! Please come in! The father will see you" he said with a gentle smile as he closed the door behind the giant and lead the way towards the bishop's office.

The bishop accepted Kapti and bought enough coal to keep the church warm and to accommodate the coming refugees. Before the business was settled however, the bishop paused. "My son, I must ask a favor of you. In the cemetery is a man and woman dressed in black. They had wished to examine a grave site and I am curious as to what they have found. Could you go see and bring back to me any information they may give, I would be very grateful" he asked politely. He was by no means obligated to do so but the father hoped the large man would grant him such a favor

My most humble of apologies to everyone. I had to put aside replying to deal with a family emergency that occurred and needed time to rest. Rest assured, I will reply immediately

Replies will be typed up tomorrow morning. Been a bit busy today unfortunately. My apologies to everyone for the wait

Lucian watched as Mergoux severed the girl's head at the neck. It didn't take long for the body to pick itself back up and begin slashing wildly. If it's head were still in tact, the slashing would have been more precise but Lucian had thankfully cleaved the creature's head in half. The old raven quickly severed it's arm at the elbow and then cut the legs off. Despite losing it's head, arm, and both legs, the other arm was still trying to slash and claw. "Total dismemberment or fire! Cut them apart!" he yelled. Fire was not an option down here. True, the fire would work but it would incinerate them as well thanks to the fumes. It took a while anyway. Lucian looked up as the little boy, the woman, and the one eyed man began to advance on him and Mergoux. The large woman leaped at Lucian as the one eyed man leaped at Mergoux, claws out as the young boy skittered towards Mergoux's legs like a demonic spider. Lucian drove his hatchet into the woman's face, splitting it diagonally and spilling brain matter on the ground as the one intact eye began looking about.

Lucian put his foot against the creature's chest and pinned it against the sewer wall as he threw his hatchet into the one eyed man's face, distracting it as best as he could to help Mergoux. Lucian drew his dagger and began slicing away at the creature he had pinned as he soon felt the young boy leap onto his back and begin stabbing him in the shoulder several times with a broken bone. "Filthy bastard" he shouted in pain as he drove the dagger into the boys face, nailing it to the wall behind him. The old raven was bleeding but he didn't pay it any attention as he took a moment to assess the situation.

The creature that pressed the attack on Lua and the Bone Mage had lost it's head, bubbles appearing in the water and muck. The head was still moving and still trying to bite as it had thankfully fell face first into the muck. The body however slashed wildly as it began fighting against the mage's spell. It was stepping closer and closer, clearly being slowed but it wasn't being stopped. It was too powerful, the magic that made it possible something very dark and beyond anything the mage would have ever seen. It was old magic, something that should have been forgotten with the corpses of others.
