The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.
I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.
Say something, Jess nagged herself as minute after wordless minute passed. She'd never been this awkward before, but back then she hadn't lived in seclusion. Besides, Roxy wasn't exactly the easiest person to talk to.
It was Roxy who broke the silence as the lights of the city came into view. The city, a familiar sight even though everything had changed. As the purple-haired woman mentioned food, Jess thought it over. "Uh... I'm ok with just a sandwich," she replied. Maybe she should be having more to celebrate her first day back in society, but she figured Roxy would want to grab something quick so as to get the journey over with, and she wasn't going to be unnecessarily demanding.
She wasn't all that hungry, anyway. A mix of excitement and nervousness fluttered in her stomach. After all these years of being cut off from the world, she could now re-enter it - but adjusting to this new life wasn't going to be easy for her or Roxy.
"I mean, not right away!" Jess hastily added, as soon as she felt the twinge of anxiety from the other woman at the mention of driving lessons. "Maybe once we're, uh, more used to this. To living this way."
Her gaze drifted to her knees. Was she going to say anything that didn't sound stupid, or that wasn't going to piss Roxy off? Those jeers from school replayed through her mind. Jess the mess. She couldn't let herself be a mess any more. Raising her head, she looked out through the windscreen at the road stretching in front of her and Roxy, leading back to society. This was a chance to make a new start, and she had to take it - in a way that the anchor would be alright with.
@OtomostheCrazy Well, if she's been training, she'll probably want to go to the Pokemon centre, so she could meet up with Rachel, Amber and the others.
Or she could catch a Pokemon. This would be a good place to get a Meditite or another Eevee.
"Oh, hey Nyxx!" Amber called as the red-haired girl trudged past. "Yeah, feel free to come along." It would be understandable if Nyxx just wanted to sleep, but the option to explore was out there in case another of her sudden bursts of energy happened.
Amber turned back to Rachel. "You're the first person to say that, people usually say I spend too much time around fossils. But yeah." She could easily shrug off such comments. Coral, on the other hand... That was a different story.
The researcher looked over at Aedre. "Togepi, huh? Cute little Pokemon there - and one that not much is known about, considering how rare it is," she said, watching the little Fairy type toddle along. "Said to bring good luck. I wonder what kinds of gems and fossils we'll find with her around?" She was half-joking, but it would be an interesting theory to test, if the Togepi and her trainer were ok with it.
Her expression became pensive as she returned to the subject she'd brought up just now. "Anyway... I just wanted to know. If a loved one wanted to know how you were doing, and things hadn't exactly gone smoothly, how would you word it? Especially if you didn't want to put them off being a trainer themselves?"
She couldn't take away the dream Coral was holding on to. She just couldn't.
"W-Why would I be afraid of them?" Sophia straightened her back, wincing as a bruise on her shoulder made its presence known. "But we did say we'd help each other out... So I guess we'll have to."
As Lan left the room, Sophia turned to face Oscar. "And... And besides! It'll be a chance to remind you what a skilled battler I really am!"
She immediately wished that, in her eagerness to compensate for the weakness she'd just shown, she hadn't let the words slip. She'd just gone and challenged him. After two consecutive losses, no less. Was she about to make the situation even worse?
No. She wouldn't. She'd shut up that smart aleck. There was no backing out of this.
Jess nodded. "Yeah... still got to get round to learning," she said, then immediately wished she hadn't brought up the subject. She'd passed a theory test, but the disruption to her life meant that the actual test was something she had yet to take. It was on her list of plans - but it would mean dragging Roxy around. Roxy, who couldn't stand closed spaces.
She really should have more experience, more skills, more of a life at twenty-one, she thought as she climbed into the passenger seat. She'd have a lot of catching up to do once she and Roxy got to the city. The issue was, how much would their separate goals and lifestyles come into conflict?
"Thanks," Jess said as she handed Roxy the suitcase. "It shouldn't take much longer." She set about cramming the last few items into bags as quickly as she could, in an attempt to keep her word.
It was silly, really. Here she was, trying to avoid burdening Roxy, and yet a few bags and cases were such a small matter compared to all the other ways she was going to inconvenience this woman. Catching herself biting her lip, she stopped, knowing that coming across as weak and timid would just further annoy the person who'd put herself out to help.
Passing the bags over to Roxy, she tensed from the woman's growing anxiety. She hurried, trying to get the job finished. All she could do was try to minimise the strain she put on the anchor.
Once she'd bought a Great Ball, Ella took a look at the map on her Pokedex again. "It's just this way!" she said, pointing down a street at the vast expanse of sand in the distance. "Let's grab some food and head over."
The rest of the shopping didn't take too long. Taking a bite of flatbread with mixed vegetables and Gogoat cheese, Ella hoped it would give her the energy to trek through the desert while carrying her new shovel. She forced a spring into her step, trying to give off the impression of vivacity for the sake of encouraging the others.
She only came to a stop when she reached the edge of the village. "Not going to make you walk, Taffy," she said, bending down to the Weedle, taking out the Pokeball she'd been given with the egg. "Not through this sand." The newly-hatched Weedle, already flagging from the small amount of activity, crawled onto the Pokeball's surface, slipping inside the capsule.
She only wished she could bond more with the little larva, instead of dragging her right into a situation like this from birth.
"Good idea." Watching Ella return the Weedle, Florence gave Chay a quick snack of Rare Candy as she searched for the Pokeball. The candy had gone a little sticky in the heat, but that made it easier for the Cutiefly to stick his nose in and drink the gooey centre. "Here, you should take a rest." She held out the Pokeball, and once the bug was safely inside, she cupped the capsule in her hands for a few moments before clipping it to her belt. She just couldn't get him involved in this.
Panacea was the next to receive a Rare Candy and get summoned back to her Pokeball, but Florence kept Bonica out after giving her the level-boosting treat. At the press of a button, the new Grass type stood by the Budew's side.
"Tiergan," Florence said, crouching down and feeding him one of the sweets. "You know the desert better than I do. Keep Bonica company, and both of you keep a look out."
A confident grin spread over the Cacnea's face. "Nea!" he said, advancing on his little spike legs towards the stretch of sand.
He'll be an encouragement, Florence thought as she pressed on, despite the lingering soreness and tiredness. Right now, she needed to be like him, able to endure the toughest of situations.
