The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

Bio

A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.

I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.

Mesalon Cave Complex

It was early afternoon, the sun high and bright in the sky, by the time the group reached the caves. Wiping sweat from her forehead, Amber followed Rachel, peering into the mouth of a cavern. From what she'd read, Drilbur, Diglett and Onix dug many of these tunnels. What else would be in there? This was her chance to find out. As risky as a Pokemon training journey was, witnessing these creatures close up made it all worthwhile.

"Come on back out, Larimar." At the press of a button, the Anorith reappeared by her side. Walking alongside the others, three of her Pokemon in tow, Amber switched on the flashlight. Distant shapes flitted around, their squeaks echoing. "Woobats," she said, noticing a heart-shaped mark on the stony wall. "It hasn't been officially proven, but they're believed to bring good fortune to anyone they land on." She glanced over her shoulder at Aedre. "Of course, you should have plenty of that anyway, with your Togepi."

As the researcher-in-training pointed the flashlight around the cave, multicoloured glints shone from the walls and floor. "Well, we've definitely come to the right place for mining," Amber commented with a chuckle, shrugging the bag from her shoulder, putting on the gloves and pulling out the pickaxe. The pendants she could make from these crystals would hopefully sell for enough to keep her fed, and who knew, maybe some of these rocks would be useful to Pokemon later on. There would surely be evolution stones and type gems around.

"Kyra, you wouldn't mind keeping an eye out for wild Pokemon?" she asked the Rockruff. With a yap, the puppy cast an alert look around and sniffed the area, prepared to guard the group of trainers. Amber set to work, chipping at the rocks. At her side, Larimar did the same, swiping the ground with her sharp claws, revealing a piece of clear quartz. "Wow, Larimar! Those claws of yours are like steel!" Amber watched in fascination as her newest Pokemon assisted her. "I read that an Armaldo can break rocks... So, it turns out they can do that even before they evolve."

After Chalcedony helped to work the gemstone free, Larimar pushed it, sending it clinking across the ground towards the trainer. Bending down, Amber patted each of the shellfish and tucked the crystal into her bag. "Aw, thanks, both of you!"

If they worked together, it seemed likely they'd dig up plenty of items before the day was out.

That simmering anger wasn't cooling off - and something else tinged it. A trace of the worry from earlier. Jess cringed inwardly. Had Roxy been hurt by friends or family before, and now she was acting as others had towards the anchor? She didn't know the other woman's story, and wasn't going to ask, but she should have known her fear of being a parasite could be interpreted that way.

The empath took another deep breath. "It's... It's just that I know you're not used to living like this," she explained, forcing herself to unclench her fists by her sides. "What is it you want to do?"

Even as she spoke, she knew she probably couldn't make amends. Roxy most likely wouldn't listen. Either way, Jess would have to respect her decision.

With a yelp, Ella fell to the ground beside Vivian. Steel gleamed as the Metang sped past her, moving in a blur, aiming a flurry of swipes at any nearby Pokemon.

"Treasure, Pincushion, come back!" Reaching for the Pokeballs, she summoned the two Poison types back, who had been knocked off-balance by the Rhyhorn's Ground type move. "Viv! Are you alright?" She turned her head, gasping as she glimpsed metal claws lashing at the Flabebe.

"Quick, Jumbles! Foul Play!" At Ella's command, the Inkay flew at the Metang, grasping it, using the robotic Pokemon's considerable strength against it to flip it over.

Florence gave a cry as she landed on her damaged shoulder. She struggled to sit up, to check that everyone was ok, but the desert spun and tilted around her, dizziness and leftover dust blurring her vision.

"Agh... Tiergan," she groaned. She hadn't wanted to do this. She'd gotten into this mess in the first place by taking on too great a challenge at too low a level. There was no choice, though. Battling was the only chance the group had of getting those Pokemon out. "Use Absorb on that Rhyhorn!"

The Cacnea stretched out his thorny arms, firing a beam of red light forward. It struck the Rhyhorn, casting a glow over it as Tiergan sapped its energy.

The wave of anger hit Jess like a punch to the stomach. "That's not what I meant!" she shouted, before falling quiet. She hadn't intended to snap like that, but the emotions she took on from Roxy were clear in her tone.

That had been so stupid of her, she thought as she took a deep breath, trying to dispel the seething. Stupid, stupid, stupid. She'd wanted to reassure Roxy that she'd do her best not to be a nuisance, but by doing so, she'd gone and pushed her away. Made her feel rejected. And it seemed everything she said made things worse.

Even so, after a few more slow, steady breaths, she slowly approached Roxy. "Look... I'm sorry," she said, as calmly as she could. "I didn't mean it like that. It's just... I appreciate the offer, but it didn't seem fair to keep helping myself to your stuff. At least, not without giving anything back."

She thought back to her agreement to help out with the business. Would that be enough, though? Especially after starting out on less than great terms?
@OtomostheCrazy Team's ready :)

Also, if you want a recap, Hammer's near the gym, and Mistress Hollow's about to battle him. Rachel, Amber, Alex, Aedre and Nyxx are setting off to explore the caves. Sophia now has a Darumaka, Oscar now has a Riolu, and they're both still in the gym.

The dust cleared, revealing two men - one with blond hair and a simple jeans-and-shirt outfit, the other in grease-stained mechanic overalls. The people trapped in the cave had survived after all. Relief flooded Ella, until her surroundings came into enough focus that she she saw both of their pointed glares.

Her eyes widened as she listened to their explanations. Despite the two rather intimidating-looking Pokemon at their sides - a Rhyhorn and a Metang - she spoke up.

"I'm going too!" she shouted, stepping forward. "Tyranny? Abuse? Believe me, I've known Vivian's mom for a long time! She never treated her Vileplume with anything other than kindness! And how do you explain all those traps in the forest? Pokemon stuck in cages? How badly hurt that poor Chikorita was? How is that liberating them?"

It wasn't like Ella to get this angry, but she wasn't going to stand for this, or trust these guys for a moment.

Florence flinched back, staring in shock as the two men claimed to be helping Pokemon. Helping them by taking them away from their friends and sending them to Arceus-knew-where. She winced as Ella and Vivian faced the younger man, challenging him.

"Please," Florence said, her voice rough from the dust. "Please tell me where my Chikorita is. She got injured, poisoned..." She shuddered at the memory of the pain and fear those red eyes had shown. "And... And the ones who took her, I remember what they said. They were saying she was better than nothing. That... That doesn't sound like liberating Pokemon to me."

Steeling herself, she took a step towards the cave, doing her best to hide her fear. "I-I've got to get her out! And all the other Pokemon in there!"

Jess couldn't help grimacing a little at the way Roxy looked at her. She'd tried not to offend the anchor, only to go and piss her off anyway. A common occurrence already. "Thanks, I'll get my own food when I can though," she replied, taking a loaf of bread from the cupboard and popping two slices in the toaster.

Hopefully the administration job would work out, and then she'd feel more in control, more able to make her own choices, more like the adult she was meant to be by now. It would all be fine, she told herself as she waited for the toast to brown. She'd find some way to live her life without bothering Roxy. Eventually. Maybe.

"Thanks," Jess said, approaching and pouring herself a cup of coffee. Such a normal part of a morning routine, yet in an unfamiliar situation. Everything had changed, hopefully for the better, but this had opened up a whole new set of issues to resolve.

That worry nagged at the back of her mind again. She didn't even know if it was her own or Roxy's. Caffeine probably wasn't a good idea, but she needed something to make up for the lack of sleep.

"Uhh..." She glanced at the fridge and cupboard, then at Roxy. "Is it alright if I get something to eat?" Great, she'd just gone and sounded utterly pathetic again. Of course it should be alright, she lived here now... but this was still someone else's food. It would feel rude to just rummage through Roxy's cupboard for some bread to toast without asking first.

This was all going to take a lot of getting used to.
@OtomostheCrazy Well, it's still Day 4, and Deneb can now challenge the gym (Lan's waiting for challengers). As for the random battle, I'll put together a team, let me know when you're ready.
